Which phones support HW decode of h265? - MX Player

Since there are now phones that run the S805 and Exynos 5433. Which phones support hardware decode of h265 and HW+ ideally?

It should be phones really new. But you can play h265 with S/W

None. The final consumer standards regarding h265 specification for consumer hardware have not even been agreed upon, let alone chipmakers doing anything about it. Don't hold your breath for hardware-accelerated h265 anytime soon, especially on mobile.
For more information, you may want to skim through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-mx-player-10-bit-video-discussion-t2725241

Any update to this? I know the note 4,note 5 and galaxy s6 all play these files with h/w, but what about any others?

Toshiba AT200

I think i'll be selling my TF by christmas and investing in the new Toshiba AT200.
Looks awsome.

Until they've got something to market, it still doesn't make a difference. It might look nice, but it also makes no mention of the connectivity, which is one reason the Transformer was so much better IMHO. Good luck though. Personally, I'd just wait until the next best thing after that comes out.
Why this when the Transformer 2 will be releasing this October?
This thing is no match for the TF2.

if this is Toshiba's apology for the thrive, I'll be picking it up in a heart beat.
Remember that is still a Toshiba... Hardware specs mean nothing without software that is up to date and supported. Toshiba is phenomenal at manufacturing components... Once they put them all together things don't go so well :-(

I still see little reason to consider this, especially if you already have a Transformer......Even more so if you have the DOCK (such as I do). I'm sure it'll be nice, but I get the feeling Toshiba will be similar to Viewsonic....they put out the hardware, and don't bother updating the software, as others have posted.
I think it really comes down to 1 thing. Everyone seems to want the same thing in the end...A Samsung Galaxy Tablet(thin, light, and well made), with the connectivity of the Transformer. If someone could do that, they would have a truly winning product for every consumer.
Connectivity usually refers to wireless communications.
Expandability is what the Transformer has - and why I chose it (along with the price). That Toshiba looks pretty nice, but without the cool functionality of the TF's dock, I see no reason to switch it up.

Agreed, "looks" awesome. But what do you get? A thinner tablet that will surely be inferior to T2 at a much higher price point. Seems a dubious switch to me.
I want to see what the Padfone looks like before I seriously consider swapping out my T1
No dock? No interest.
All your doing is exchanging one honeycomb tablet for another.
'7.7mm thin' WOW! means absolutely nothing

"Inferior" because dual-core and not quad-core? Core count is a relative measure, just like clock speed. Its all the other that really makes the difference: graphics engine, video engine, frame buffer, cache, memory management, internal bus, power consumption and management etc.
For me good multimedia support on a pad is essential, and that means video support. I knew I couldn't expect top-notch hardware assisted video decoding from the Tegra family (read Boxee story) but what Tegra 2 offers is pathetic. Congrats nVidia for such a deception and effectively keeping it a hush hush secret! I don't care if Tegra 3/4/5 is advertised as "full" 1080p decoding support, such were the words for their current chips.
This doesn't immediately mean that OMAP processors are better at hardware video decoding just because TI says so. Real life will tell. But the good point is that alternative hardware exists.
The AT200 is sure more appetizing to my taste than the future Tegra 3 based pads.
Tegra 2 can play 1080p. They never said that they will support every encoding settings on these planet...
But what was the alternative? A Galaxy Tab 7.7 with a single core A8-CPU or an iPad 2 with a 4:3 Screen and a lower DPI.
I love my Transformer but hate the limited video decoding performance of Tegra 2. But in may there was no other Tablet with another SoC for me with the same specs - 16:9(10), DualCore, 10,1" and real Tablet-OS.
Tegra 3 will have no limitations with video decoding. nVidia showed a 1440p (2560x1440) video with 40Mbit/s at MWC in Barcelona.

Of course I wasn't referring to extreme encoding. You can yourself create baseline L3.1 AVC encodings that _will not_ play.
nVidia itself lists almost every known compression under "Video 1080p decode"... (http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-2.html) but as you correctly observed does not specify anywhere the limitations.

Well the AT200 itself is a good alternative.

Hopefully it's not a specially prepared stream just to demonstrate "look how good we can do".

Yes, but not in may.
In a few months there will be so many great Tablets with different SoCs.
Why in the hell do I care about another tablet. When I come to the TRANSFORMER forum I shouldn't have to search through this garbage in order to find info about the TRANSFORMER! Enough already!
I use the Toshiba AT-200 since 3 weeks now.
Works great.
I have just 3 questions :
1) I got sometimes some blinking of the "Date/Time/Wifi/... config panel" (the window that appears normaly when you click on the time on the bottom right of the screen) : Very annoying !
The only way i found to calm down the blinking is to Lock&delock the screen... (via the physical power button)
2) Android 3.2 is proposed natively by Toshiba. Is there a Android 4 version in developement ?
3) Am i in the right thread ? ;o)
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Acer a200 cant handle hd video

I just got myself an acer a200 thinking it would be a vast improvement to my original galaxy tab. I use mx video player both on my galaxy tab and on my galaxy s2, and they can play any video I have. Even the old galaxy tab plays 1080 videos without skipping a beat. For some reason the a200 will not let me select hw mode, and the sw mode is not capable of playing the video. There has to be a fix for this?
Unfortunately, you bought the A200, which still use the old Tegra 2. I used like 4 different tablets with that cpu, its just not that great for HD video, but should manage HD h.264.
If you are good with flashing, what you should do is sell the A200 and get yerself a Kindle Fire and install CyanogenMod9 to it. Kindle Fire use an OMAP 4 cpu like the Galaxy Nexus, but at 1GHz. Tegra 3 devices would do well too, but I think those tablets are currently more expensive.
"All OMAP 4 come with an IVA3 multimedia hardware accelerator with a programmable DSP that enables 1080p Full HD and multi-standard video encode/decode." Due to this, my Nexus play HD MKV videos smoother than the Galaxy Note which has a higher frequency Exynos.
I've just realized that it plays straight DVD rips perfectly smooth. not sure how this makes sense when it can't play 1080 and struggles on 720

is there a supported devices list somewhere?

I've been using MXplayer for years now, on my tablets. I specifically chose Intel based ones, because then I could be sure hi10p could play in software mode at least.
Now that HVEC is getting more common, especially in anime fansubs, and Intel has abandoned the tablet/phone market, I need to switch to ARM based devices (edit, in case it's not clear: with hardware playback support). However, while the CPU specs state e.g. 1080p hvec at 8 and 10 bit decoding is supported, this is not the case for devices using this CPU, as the manufacturer needs to build in support for their version of Android. So unless one's buying a high end well know phone, it's a gamble whether or not a device will play back certain files.
For instance, I'm looking for a mid range phone, the Moto G5 Plus gets good reviews. The snap 625 cpu should be able to play 1080p h265 10bit anime files from what I gather, but I couldn't find any feedback if the Motorola G5 Plus actually supports those features of the cpu.
Is there anywhere a list to be found where users provide feedback on the results of their devices? I seem to recall I stumbled across such a list on the internet years ago, when h264 hi10p became popular, but I haven't had such luck with hvec support.

No, you may not get such lists in MX Player forum. Most of the recent devices come with the hevc 8bit support out of the box. but, 10-bit hevc is not supported natively in most of the lower midrange devices. You may have to use SW decoder on such devices.

Exynos 7870 (Sam Tab A 10.1)

Hi
Does anyone know if the Samsung Tab A 10.1 (2016) will play x265/HEVC 1080P MKV files using MX Player on HW/HW+ with no stutter?
I'm looking to replace my Nexus 7 2013 which has the S4 Pro, it stutters to death. Antutu scores the processors close together, even though they are 3 years apart :silly:
The Exynos can apparently decode x265 but want to know if it can play it OK before I pull the trigger.
Thanks all

Is Xiaomi Redmi 6 capable of playing x265 and VR videos?

Hello folks,
I'm going to buy a new smartphone and I need one that is capable to play x265 videos smoothly and VR videos as well. I'm not into gaming and the VR are just for videos. I don't intend to spend much money as well.
Looking for some models that match my criteria’s and budget I narrowed down the list to Xiaomi Redmi 6 OR Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. The first one is cheaper and my preference.
I was ready to buy the Redmi 6 but then I noticed that on the official website on the Redmi 6 specs it doesn’t quote x265 or HEVC or anything like that and it doesn’t quote the gyroscope as well.
It’s awkward for me because the chipset Helio P22 used to assemble the Redmi 6 has support for x265 decoding according to the official Mediatek website.
Is it possible for a smartphone assembled with Helio P22 doesn’t play x265 videos even it being native on the chipset?
Accordingly to some websites, a gyroscope is essential to have a good VR experience, but that wouldn’t be just for games like “Pokemon Go”? Would Redmi 6 play VR videos great or the lack of gyroscope turn that impossible (or produce a poor VR experience)?
I would appreciate a lot if some could lend me a hand, especially Redmi 6 owners because I didn’t want to pay more for the MI A2 Lite. I’m just willing to pay more if the Redmi 6 is not good enough.
I also accept suggestions of other models and brands that fit my budget.
OBS: Play x265 is ESSENTIAL for me. I’m not going to buy a device that can’t play x265. The VR is a nice feature that I would like to have, but not as essential as the x265.
