Do we got anything on the M9? Maybe January release ?? Anybody know anything. Hoping for optics improvement, ois. HTC is always pretty tight lipped.
I myself hope they upgrade memory to 3 gigs. That and just a bit bigger screen would be cool too.
5.5inch display is the rumor.

Yeah I'm with you on that...I feel like anything past 5.2 is just to big.
The only 5.5" device I've heard about, is the HTC One Max Sport with 18mp ois camera.

as I said only a rumor, it's based off the fact that the M8 Prime was rumored to be 5.5inch.
I believe it will be in the range of 5.2-5.3 though
Focus on software improvements on the M8.
Everyone complains about the camera, but it's the best smartphone camera I've ever had and I had a iPhone 5S for a minute.
For me the screen is the perfect size.
The only thing I would want to see in a future phone is a bigger battery. If this thing had a bigger battery 2 days would be doable. As it is now the battery is amazing, but it could get better.

You should never zoom on a cell phone camera. Just my thoughts. It's just a digital zoom and you always be better off to capturing everything the lens sees. Do your adjustments post

If its 5.5 sign me up now just pack it with a 2.5 quad core & 3 gigs of memory. Would be nice if they could get the 8 core processor. I will have to look up the m9 rumors but its really to early to have any seriousness to them.

I dont know what everyone is complaining about the camera for, I have had 6 m's, 2 at&t and 4 verizon and for me they have all taken good pics I have no complaints about the m8 camera. I think many just complaim because its a low pixel number but thats because its an ultra pixel and not a mega pixel. I think most complain about it just because of a lower pixel number and not about the actual performance of the standard m8's camera.

Never had any issue I just take about 4 or 5 pics of the same and pick the best one, that has always worked for me.
I find this thread VERY depressing as I still have almost 3 years of payments on my current M8. <sigh>
FWIW, I've had an old Blackberry that took much better pics than the M8 (or my Samsung Galaxies but the best camera phone I had was actually a camera with a phone stuck on, a Samsung FlipShot! It was a fairly decent phone and a GREAT little portable camera.
http://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-sch-u900/
Of course, these are totally obsolete 3G phones but they DID take great pics, proving again the megapixels have very little to do with picture quality.

Some people will call me mad and no one probably cares but I'm coming back to the one s! I sold mine back at the start of February and I bought a nexus 4. The nexus 4 is a nice device but stock android is incredibly plain and the software keys take up so much screen space the screen is barely bigger than the one s (except when watching videos)
The sound quality is also a big step down from the one s, The audio on the one s is 100x better the DAC and beats are the reason for this I think. And the nexus 4 is a lot quieter. Everyone's moaning about how quiet the volume output is and I'm pretty sure its hardware.
The camera is also a major downgrade, the pictures my nexus 4 takes aren't much better than what my HTC wildfire took! I'd just thought I'd let you guys know my opinion on the nexus 4 if you consider upgrading to it but I think apart from the bigger and better screen the one s beats it in every way. As for the s4 pro and 2gb of ram I've hardly noticed any difference in real world usage.
So anyone thinking they've had enough of the one s, just think you've still got a great phone I've just sold a nexus 4 to get another one s so that's how much I miss it. I'll need to get used to the non HD pentile display again which will probably take me a week or so but I'm looking forward to it A lesson to anyone who loves htc sense. Don't buy a nexus!
I don't wonder about it. One S probably will remain the best android phone of this size until HTC M4 out at Q3 end hopefully. The only weak point on One S is QHD pentile screen(some said no microSD) and all the other stuffs are very good to excellent. If I have budget problem in this year, I can imagine I could use it til next year, it's a very powerful phone. Indeed, I decided to hold One S as my backup phone though I may get a M4 or M7 later, or give it for my parents.
Plain stock android is always bad because you got too little function and settings but the best thing on nexus is you always have a perfect working CM rom. The most updated and bugs free CM. There are many hardware problems on N4 like camera and sound, make it the worst Nexus in the record.

I completely agree, the fact that I'm giving up a phone with a hd display for a phone with a qhd pentile display is a credit to how good the One S is. I'll only probably have it for about 4-5 months and then I'll get the HTC One when my contract runs out but the One S is great, I suppose I'm just a sense maniac. I love HTC sense.

You aren't alone to doing this mad thing..lol... I was once have a Sony Xperia S and finally sold it out for One S in June and never look back. But yep, you're right, 720P is very impressive for text reading.
Do you guys think a higher resolution would be worth it on a 4.3" screen? I come from a Galaxy S II and I agree that 800x480 is far worse than our 960x540. But going any higher would be worth it?

I do but no higher than 720 x 1280. The 8x has that resolution and the screen is as sharp as anything. I personally think the higher resolution is great for text but apart from that it's hardly a big deal. The resolution of the one s is fine for videos and picture viewing etc. I certainly see absolutely no point in the 1080p full hd screens that they're putting in these newest flag ship phones! So I don't think it's worth it although it would be nice. Anything above 4.3" i'd say it certainly is worth a higher resolution than qhd.
I'd have to agree that 4.3" is likely the sweet spot for this screen resolution.
I'm also switching to a One S soon; I currently have an LG Optimus L9, mostly for audio purposes since a large majority of my smartphone time is spent listening to music (for its price, it's sure low on distortion and seems to be able to drive my NuForce IEMs with no fuss). Being an avid GSMArena reader, I was pleased to learn that the One S still holds some of the lowest distortion readings of all smartphones ever reviewed (and that the Snapdragon S4 really zooms on this particular device).

You'll love it, the sound quality is superb on this phone. It's half the reason why I missed the phone in the first place! The jellybean update made the audio a bit distorted and the volume was too loud so I don't know if that's been fixed but I know the sound quality was immense on sense 4.1 on ice cream sandwich.
Wow, you guys are updating quite fast! I just bought my one s (for a bargain) and I'm hoping to keep using it for 2 years. My previous phone was a galaxy s1, so compared to that, the one s really flies

Nexus is not necessary better when you only stick with stock plain os. However, if you are willing to flash Nexus CM rom with 3rd kernels then the answer is 100% yes. But N4 is really bad at music, camera and voice call(or use BT handfree instead)........really really bad
iphone is good if you can live with the tiny screen.

+1 to this
Apps run a little bit smoother on the nexus 4 but stock android and 4.2 are the main reason why. I just think the hardware of the device is rubbish. The dac is poor and the camera is awful. The nexus is good if you want a snappy stock android phone.
If you flash acid audio engine, music with earphones should be great, as it is on hos with cm and that mod.
Ill wait for ios 7 and key lime pie to decide, but I really dont see why not choosing a nexus instead of any other android phone: the SO is far more polished and software is always up to date. However when I see even nexus devices lagging in browser ,for example, I doubt a lot about android as SO...
Aside from the camera and sound I wouldn't go back to the one s , yea the widgets look better on sense and the theming is cool but I got rid of the soft keys thanks to a ROM and now I have the screen space jack and I really love the display ... I just wish they can make a nexus the size of a one s with HTCs camera and Googles freedom ... I know Google said the next nexus is going to have an insane camera so that might be the one!

hi friends. the topic says it all. but here is the catch.
i have to go on a trip. its my first time ever out of the country so i really need a great CAMERA PHONE.
i know 808 sweeps floor with Both S4 and S3 for its camera performance but i still need an idea from u guys, cause u guys are the best
i have owned S3 and its camera is great. but not a good low light performer. its THE GREATEST PHONE for sure. and S4 will not be available till end of this month.i really need to decide within like 2 days to go for any set.
are there any friends here who owned 808 and S3 together? cause i have never used 808 but every read only good about its camera.
pls suggest me. i will not go for 920 cause windows phone sucks! well, Symbian sucks ever worse but its camera is comparable to DSLRs so im asking just to confirm from u guys.
i expect good and sincere help cause i love xda
*EDIT* and one more question what can be the price of used 808 as i have no idea at all about its resale
thanks in advance for ur time and help

Haven't you answered your own question???
Questions should go to the proper forum section, but we have camera discussions here too.
With that said, not to leave you without an answer, the PureView 808 is obviously the best camera phone on the market. The good news about the GS4 is however that it does awesome good light photos which at 13MPs are good for digital zooming or later cutting which is usually a problem with phones (no optical zoom). The bad news is that, despite improving tremendously, absolute dark shots are still problematic, and if half your shots are taken during nights or very limited lights, the Lumia 920 is the one to choose. If 80% of your shots are taken in low but not dark conditions, average lights and ideal scenery, the GS4 is an excellent all-around performer for a phone.
But you can judge the quality for yourself over this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213853
price of a used around 320-350$ for now

No, its not comparable to a DSLR, but its much better then the S3/S4 and all the other phones. If you want a good low light phone, go for the 808/920 or htc one.
But if you want to shoot REALLY NICE pictures, you should get a dslr.
For example the Sony Alpha 57: currently avaible for 440€ in Germany. The supplied objective is ok but you can improve the quality with an alternative one.
All the phones avaible ARE NOT WORTH COMPARING WITH A GOOD DSLR!

Technically, Olympus E-PL2 is not a DSLR. It's a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
And "Micro Four Thirds" should have told you the size of the sensor. Compare this to a size of a typical APS-C sensor.
If I am looking to take photos, I would rather get a typical DSLR.
Matching 5D Mark III in photography? I would better ask the editor to get his eyes checked. 808 is neither good phone, not a good camera. It's much better than typical mobile camera, but can't be compared to a good DSLR. It even worse than a point n shoot like RX100.
I don't need photography lessons from blind test in GSMArena.
808 is comparable to my 5D mark III? Please. I'll advise you to stick with your current phone and get something like Canon 650D or 60D.

If 2 micron is ultrapilxel, what do you call a 5 micron? Elephant-pixel or dragon-pixel?
I wonder if you know that even a 6 year old phone like Nokia N95 had a bigger sensor and bigger pixel-size. In 2007 they had a phone with 1/2.5 inch sensor and 2.2 micron pixel pitch.
Don't remember anyone calling it ultrapixel!

ultrapixel is just a marketing term aka a name. is it so hard to understand that? HTC figured that it would be rather embarrasing to sell a flagship with only 4MP on board so they coined this term.
Its like apple coined the retina display term. theres nothing to do with retina there. its just a name.
And how big fat and heavy was that n95? 808 is best cameraphone out there but nokia coundnt sell it. people dont want fat phones anymore. not most people.
Seems like you don't want a dslr. If you want REALLY GOOD picture quality and that's all you care about you could still get a decent digital non-dlsr camera which is much smaller than a dslr. I mean you already got a decent phone anyways so why throw so much money on 808 that's got nothing but a camera? Better spend something like $350 on a decent camera with superb quality. That price range can already get you something much better than any smartphone camera's

Captain Obvious strikes back with vengeance.
i know it very clear 808 just cant compete with DSLRs but u should give the credit where it is due. 808 does compete with some of the low end DSLRs and i said LOW END!!
and 920 is only better than 808 in terms of steady videos cause of its OIS and thats it!
808 captures true colors and u can get the punchier colors while chossing vivid mode or increasing the contrast
i just wish, GOD just WWWIIIISSSSHHH that HTC had used some high quality and higher pixel count sensor in ONE! that would have been awesome!
ultra pixel of HTC ONE is like the 12MP sensor of N8 when it was introduced years ago! and then Nokia perfected that with 808. i was literally hoping a great phone from HTC this year at least, but alas... Ultrapixel should be evolved and it definitely would be, into something comparable to what Nokia did with 808!
now my current wish is Nokia choses to go Android and introduce Pureview Phase 3 phone with FHD screen and camera with double the performance of 808... (just a wish )
I currently have a m7 and I'm looking for my next new phone. I want to know anyone's cons against the s6 that they're using now. Especially anyone who came from m7/m8 etc. I want to know about camera, battery, performance, any lag with touchwiz, etc. I'm finding it a hard decision between nexus 6, S6, (and i would say m9...but the camera looks pretty awful). I need as much feedback as possible. I just want to know any cons before buying this phone that a rep (Verizon) isn't going to tell me.
I came from a launch day m7 myself, and I've had the s6 for about 2 weeks now. I think it was a solid upgrade, and I have no regrets. My only problems with it are the little annoyances, like the volume warning, and the things that I used to use xposed for, since there's no exposed for the s6 yet (and probably won't be for a while, if at all).
But the screen and camera are amazing. The battery and memory issues haven't bothered me because I haven't noticed them - all I know is that they're better than the m7.
One thing though - for the first time ever I'm using a third party launcher (Nova Prime). I don't really have any issues with touchwiz, and I've actually grown to like it a lot once I threw the flat candy theme on top of it, but the touchwiz launcher is a mess.

Actually, check out this thread and do a search for s6 - I think people have gotten it to work. I haven't tested it - I've been pretty happy with touchwiz (surprisingly).
Same with the camera - haven't found any reason to try another, stock works great and the photos are awesome.

samsung started the 4K video in smartphones....and it's the best video out there...the stabilization is very good.....it's miles better than the M9...
Is video stereo mic or mono? Not a deal breaker, but something I like.

if you mean recording videos audio is in mono or stereo...it's in stereo....
So I played with this phone yesterday at Verizon.... I'm sold. What is battery life compared to m7? I know the battery is slightly larger, but this is samsung and it also has QHD display and super amoled vs m7's htc and lcd 1080p display.
The battery life is my main gripe about the S6.. I bought and returned my LG G4 for the S6 and the Samsung is built much better yet the G4 got full day battery life. I charge my S6 about twice a day.
Also, the camera is definitely subpar on the S6 in comparison to the LG G4, especially in low lighting. The iPhone performs much better in low light compared to the S6 also. Day time pics are better than iPhone but nowhere near the G4 quality.
Once someone releases a higher capacity battery for the S6, I'd gladly tear mine apart to replace it.
Keep in mind I work for AT&T and I use my phone a LOT throughout the day.. Roughly 20gb /month data usage on my line alone and I don't tether.

My iPhone 6 records 60fps 1080p much smoother than the GS6. But I don't record much video anyways.
Off the charger at 7am and I get the battery 15% warning around noon. Quick charge to 45% during lunch then get the warning again around 5pm.

I own a GS6 after returning my G4. My iPhone 6 is my secondary device and its sitting next to me. I'm giving a legitimate comparison with no bias. You saying the GS6 is better than iPhone in "every way" is ignorance at its best. I'm not a fan boy of either. There are strengths and weaknesses to both. The GS6 camera doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the G4 photos when you put them side by side and view them on the same calibrated monitor. The GS6 struggles with iso levels in low light. The iPhone is better at iso adjustment in low light. That is absolute in my real world usage.
Day light photos on the GS6 are leaps and bounds over the iPhone, however.

i don't know if you are a fan of either but i own the S6 and its photos are great...i don't own the G4...but ....in all comparisons the S6 was better or on par with the G4 in daylight....in low light the G4 is better.......so saying it's nowhere as the G4 is not right at all...

Buy a G4 and compare them in real world photos yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about. Photo clarity and color accuracy is noticeably better with the G4.

every one has an opinion.....it seems all the reviewers has the same opinion and you have another....it's an opinion.....and i can't afford as many phones as you i guess....if you had a G4 now an S6 and iphone 6....
My mother has a 6+ and the pictures are still better on my S6, lowlights and video recording. 60fps is smooth on both so I don't know what the guy above is talking about.

I'm planning to buy a HTC device. So I would like to know what you would recommend. The budget can be anything.
Good specs, good camera.
Please give me ideas.
are you looking for the flagship kind of thing or a small one?

Thanks for the reply. Any device with a good rear and front camera and good battery life. So not really a budget device. Mid range or even high priced ones are okay as long as the specs are good. What do you recommend?
HTC M9+ is their latest flagship phone with a 20 megapixels rear camera and a 4 megapixels front-facing camera. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-One-M9_id9151

My previous phone is sony. I've been having my HTC M9 for a month and it works well.
The long waited device have been annouced, and it was worth waiting. A 5.8" gorgeous display powered by a 10nm processor, a whole new UX and tons of other features. So what do you think about it ? Her you can talk about anything related to the Galaxy S8, enjoy guys ! :good:
I was hoping for that 1000fps camera rumor but it seems that was shot down, camera seems to be the same as in the s7.
That screen though... simply stunning.
I didn't see any mention of the sub pixel array, still pentile?
There is a Chinese site that claims there is a China-exclusive Galaxy S8 boasting 6GB worth of RAM. How likely is this to be true, given that the west will be receiving 4GB RAM variants? If this is true, I don't think I will buy the 'western' variant, rather I'd be looking to get China's exclusive 6GB edition. What are your thoughts?

Even though they didn't mention it, alot of sites are saying it'll shoot ultra-slow motion at 1000fps. Just because it wasn't mentioned does not mean it is inherently non-existent.
Source sammobile "According to a report by Naver, the Galaxy S8′s camera can record 1000fps videos, and the company has achieved this by adding DRAM (used as buffer memory) into the camera sensor itself. Sony’s recently unveiled the Xperia XZ Premium with a 19-megapixel camera sensor (IMX400) that uses a similar technique to capture 960fps slow-motion videos at 720p, but our sources tell us that the Galaxy S8 won’t use the same sensor."

It's not using Sony's new sensor, it's using same sensor as S7 so definitely no 960+ fps
omgggg this is so ugly haha same **** again even the s7 edge is better than this crap but waiting for the oneplus 5 that will be a bomb
Up to 10% in cpu and 21% in gpu is disappointing considering a switch to 10nm. The A10 got a lot more over A9 last year without a process improvement.
I think I'm going to hold or pass.

Somewhere I read something about 4k at 60fps. That would be an indication that this is not the same sensor as the s7

There is new camera software and an 8MB front facing camera - the new software is something many DSLR and Digitial cameras have - multi-shot or something like that - camera takes multiple pictures of the same photo very quickly and processes them together to get a better reproduction - helps in low light photos particularly - that is a bad description for what I think will be an awesome addition...can't wait - just hope I can pre-order a G950F Variant here in the US.
Any idea if the speaker has been improved over the s7?
I read a couple of articles that said there would be stereo sound/speakers and they did this by making the earpiece speaker the 2nd speaker.

I believe apple makes they're own cpu's from the ground up, samsung/qualcomm simply take pieces from arm and modify it slightly, the snapdragon 835 is an a53 + a slightly modified a72/a73 core, the exynos is probably based on the same thing.
What about development of this device? AOSP roms?
What's new in kernel version 4.4.16? And some benefits aganist 3.10?

There's lineageos for the exynos s7 so i'm sure it'll come out for the s8... seems a lot of stuff is working, that's surprising.

True but imo its still not suitable for daily usage
I pre ordered one I do wish Samsung put stereo speakers on the front of the device but as long as what they got now is as loud as the note7 i'll be ok. The finger print scanner looks like it's in a not great spot but i'm not to worried about that since I use my smart watch to keep my phone unlocked
Let's get this thing rooted and going as soon as possible. I worry Samsung will make everyone's life harder with locked bootloaders and other bad surprises we may find along the way. But I'm looking forward to have the hardware in my hands soon and start the boogie

I think they are relegating the Finger print unlock method. They don't see it as the future of security. It's becoming just an optional extra. That's why they are pushing Iris scanning and a more advanced face unlock method. It should be quicker. We will see.
What size is the SIM card?
Do you still have to make the first calls with a SIM card from the country you bought it from?
Thanks
Any words about a new Audio Amp and DAC to match HTC one?
