[Q] ATT SGH-I747 Hotspot Issue - General Questions and Answers

Hello all, I am new to this site and have a situation I could use some help with.
Last year I bought a new ATT SGH-I747 S3 in the US. I had it unlocked by T-Mobile and now use it in Ecuador.
Here are the facts;
ATT SGH-I747
Android Ver. 4.4.2
Base Band I747UCUFNE4
Kernel 3.4.0-1514807
[email protected] #1
This is the problem, I recently bought a Samsung Tab 4 to use for work. I intended to use the wifi-tethering between my S3 and Tab4. When I try to select hotspot I get a message saying "no data plan and or bad sim". Everything else works fine.
I went to my provider and they said the phone was broken!!? I went to a tech and he said that my provider is NOT in fact a 4G network as advertised and I would need a root to make it work. I have tried several apps to solve this but no luck.
I read that the CM11 Rom would correct this issue even in a NON rooted device, this led to several others issues; can't use Rom Manager on this device, can't make backup without root, I did finally find an app that would allow me to save my efs file but from there I have no idea what to do. If push came to shove I would lean towards rooting and using CM11, if it would solve the hotspot issue.
I have read several one click root, one click this, that posts but they seem to leave out some important pre root steps, like backup, efs file saving etc. At this point I am at data overload and could use someone who can give me the straight no B.S. this is what you need to do steps to resolve this. I am very good with electronics, but phones are not my forte.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

[Q] Nexus S 4G flashed to CricKet..

I'm running Carbon CO2 1.1. My question is will i lose my flash to the Cricket network if i install a new rom? I afraid to wipe data/factory reset. I looked around and found no solution. Thanks in advance!
I just flashed the phone yesterday so don't know much about flashed phones.
No.
Roms and unlocks are different beasts.
Thanks, everything went well.
What ROM did you use to get to Cricket? My parents are leaving Sprint and don't want to buy new phones..
Generally, flashing over to another carrier isn't handled by a rom, but by "flashing" (different than flashing a rom.) It requires editing network information to get the phone to connect to another network. I haven't had that much experience with Cricket, but I know that they are willing to flash your phone at the stores when you sign up for service. Granted, some of their flashes are "Voice and text only" but you can search on here, there are many ways and tools to enable data. Once I leave the office I'll look for a few links and post if I find any.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 Roaming Issue

Hello, this is my first time posting on the forums here.
Recently I flashed the latest version of MIUI on my Verizon Galaxy s3. I decided that I preferred my previous rom; Jelly Bean's Build 10, and I restored it to my phone. After restoring the rom, I got a message saying that I was roaming, even though I am still in the same area where service has been working flawlessly. The first thing I tried to do was change the network type under network settings to LTE/CDMA but that choice was already selected. Thinking that I had no other options, I restored the stock rom that I had backed up on my device and I got the same issue. Thinking I could just send the phone back to Verizon, I unrooted the phone using the built in unroot tool in SuperSu Pro. I am now unrooted, but forgot to reflash the stock recovery (I am still using TWRP). I am just wondering what I should do about the issue, and if I were to send it back to verizon, would they be able to tell that I have a custom recovery. Sorry for being a noob and any help would be much appreciated.
Update: I rolled back to my rooted stock ROM and I used triangle away to reset the custom flash counter. I have also reflashed the stock recovery onto my device. Even though my phone appears to be unmodified I still have the same issue.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
there are SOOO many threads about how to fix the roaming issue it's not even funny....
^^^^^what he said!
This happened to me and what I had to do was ODIN to stock ICS rom and enter the code to reprovision sim. Google/forum search is your friend.
This is why Verizon locks down their phones! People who are not willing to search for a way to fix something that they screwed up is unacceptable. The bad thing is this phone is completely fixable with very little effort! Some people should not be allowed to flash anything!
I've dealing with so many issues ever since the DroidX so if there is one thing I've learned is there is ALWAYS a fix you may just need to do a little search if you can't find the resources your looking for on any of forums a simple google search will help you out.

[Completed] Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Flash/ROM Help!

First off, I have been feeling like a complete NOOB the past 2 days so I wanted to make a post asking for help. Thank you in advanced!
I am using a T-mobile Samsung S3 T999, and for over a year I was running one variant of the Infamous S3 ROM. Unfortunately, a couple days ago, I noticed that my cell service would only be turned on for a split second during start up. I attributed this to software issues, especially since I haven't flashed a ROM in over 1 year.
I decided to try to flash the available Infamous Lite ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172437)
This surprisingly worked fine, but I noticed that my camera wasn't working. Since then, I have flashed a plethora of other ROMS, but none have the camera working. Additionally, only the infamous ROM allowed me to get LTE service, all other ROMs did not. I tried inputting the APN on some ROMs but that didn't work.
Stupidly, I flashed UVUEMJ4 onto my phone, and now I have lost service completely, and the camera doesn't work still.
Am I not flashing my phone right? It seems like I have information being carried over from each flash or something. I reflashed to the semi-stable infamous lite for S3, and now I don't have service, and it says for me to insert SIM card. Is it actually possible to burn out my SIM card (its brand new, I picked up a new one when I initially lost service). Can I undo the UVUEMJ4 flash? Is there a more current modem thingy I should be using?
All in all, I am pretty lost, and don't have a phone with service nor camera (I love instagram hehe). Can anyone please help!?
PS I was worried that I shouldn't completely wipe my phone (ie TWRP) since I have a mac and I wasn't sure if its completely compatible to save my phone. I also destroyed my external SD card in this process (waiting on a new one).

S6 Won't Register - Script needed

Hey fellow XDA'ers, I have a strange problem on my G920T that's been bugging me for a while. After flashing a custom ROM, my EFS was messed up. Thankfully I had backed it up prior to any custom ROMs. All works well n the phone except whenever it's rebooted it fails to register to T-Mobile's network. So I have to bring up the dialer, type in *#2263# and choose Band Selection, then LTE, then LTE All (which is already asterisked) and tap it again. Only then will it register on the network and then works fine. I've tried everything under the sun including restoring EFS backup, flashing back to stock, etc., to no avail.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of or can write a script that automatically runs the above process after reboot. I don't know enough to do so, and I'm not sure one exists. Not a vital request, more of an "I'm not going to be beaten by my phone" kind of thing. I'm willing to throw a $$ donation if someone were to write or provide a working script. Thanks!

Before you do that, is the custom ROM based on the same baseband your phone has?
Yes, the custom ROM is based on the same baseband - which is a great question. I’m using the stock rooted deodexed deKnoxed DOJ7 T-Mobile variant ROM with DOJ7 baseband. I’m DOJ7 across the board. This problem has persisted through multiple stock and custom ROMs. It seems to have started when I flashed the Back to N0t3 Note5 port to S6 ROM. I also get the Security Error: Your device has been flashed blah blah blah - but only when manually registering on the network.
I’ve been around the block as far as rooting and customizing my phone for a good while, and I’ve tried every trick I know to get this straightened out. SIM card works fine on my wife’s identical S6, so it’s not that. Short of hardware failure (which isn’t likely based on functionality when manually registered on network), something in some file was erased or corrupted and I can’t figure it out. Thanks for your question.

T-mobile 4g internet works but I have calling problems

I have the international Note 5, with a t-mobile sim card. When I am on the 4g network and I try to call somebody it takes 20-30 seconds to call. When people call me, they can't reach me. Though the 4g internet works like a charm.
The only way for calling to work is to switch it to 2g, but I am loosing the 4g internet speeds.
I contacted t-mobile, they tried to reset the network, but the problem persists.
Any suggestions?
Would flashing with a custom rom help?
Should I flash the original t-mobile rom?
unce unce unce
I found the problem
The problem has to do with the volte... This option is not available with the n905c model that I have, and there seems not to be a fix with t-mobile. Fricken Samsung didn't put available this feature in the upgrades of some international phones eg the Dubai model that I have...
I have the same problem
I just bought two t-mobile branded Note 5's and I'm using them on Family Mobile (previously owned by tmobile). If I limit my networks to 2G & 3G all of my calling works fine but the moment I enable LTE all of my incoming calls go strait to vm. The problem persists on both phones so I don't think it's a hardware issue. I've tried rooted and unrooted, magisk and supersu. VoLTE is turned off on both phones (since it's not supported by family mobile) but I've tried every combination of settings I can think of and nothing helps. I hate having to choose between having LTE or getting incoming calls and would love to fix the problem. Or is there a good way to totally disable or remove the VoLTE services? If I remember correctly there were similar problems with some of the S4s that required an app like advanced signal status (??? been a while) to overcome. Can anyone help? Please and thank you.
I have the same problem
Hi all,
I have the same problem, even I have install & root with custom rom the problem still exist.
someone told me that the problem is in 3G signal.
so I decide to choose LTE & GSM only, & it works for me. however it could not give 3G signal on my phone.
Did you find the other olution of this?
Evening all, I've been having this same issue, hoping there would be a fix. Not ready to purchase a new phone when there is nothing wrong with the one I have still good for at least another yr(maybe). but not rite now.
i fix the problem
Hi all,
maybe this method could solve the issue. please try it & follow below step.
1. reset to factory setting then after finish please clear Dalvik Cache.
2. Flash with the latest Odin & latest firmware, but you don't need to change everything in options tab. then click start.
3. After finish, then insert APN as mention in this link (please read how to set APN on Galaxy note5)
4. After select your desired APN, please change APN name become ****4g.com (or you can find this apn setting in your carrier SIM (check in google)
5. Finish, please check your phone.
hope above method could solve the issue, however it works for me now.
please try at your own risk & don't forget to always save your data before.
This is the FIX for the Note 5 SM-N920 C, i know this works because i have been dealing with this for MONTHS, so i tried EVERY Custom Roms Untill i figuard WHY NOT flash a Stockish T-Mobile Rom with a Custom Kernel for the 920C. And Just like that i got My Awesome Note 5 BIZACKKK, Here we go, Follow these steps, Upgrade to the FIRST 7.0 that came out for the SM-N920C, of course you should already know to turn on debuging + OEM, Flash TWRP through Odin, then go to the TMOBILE Development Section and THANK "@Marinella" First and foremost for cooking up this Rom, Download his Stockish Unrooted Rom ++7.0 ROM Stock Unrooted N920TUVU4EQE1++you will also need (MAKE SURE TO THANK--->>> ""@AndroidSword"" ) this 7.0 Kernel, go to the seack bar and type it in, FUEL-KERNEL-V2 .... now before anything, Of course do FULL WIPES Of Everything like you usually wipe when downloading other Roms, flash the stockish Rom first, then the Kernel, Just so you know, the Kernel has 2 choices of root. ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT>>!!!!, Boot your Device and wait, this took me months to figure out after flashing so many diffrent Rom, Now I Have My Favorite International Note 5 Back, trust me , this WILL WORK ON THE 920C. ENJOY...
hi,
above method is for SM-N920C, do you have solution for SM-N920T ?
No Idea, sorry, try different Custom Rom, i have not heard of this issue with the 920T. Good Luck.
