[Completed] [Q] Galaxy S2 backup without display - XDA Assist

Hi all,
Last weekend I started thinking about backing up my phone as I did not want to lose the data on there. Ofcourse I forgot to do it and today I dropped my phone so the screen is not working anymore... sigh. The device still functions because I just received a call while typing this :fingers-crossed:.
When I plug it in, it's recognized as a portable device (see attachment). However, I'm not able to access the storage or the SD-card.
What did I try sofar:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/backup-phone-broken-screen-t1348895
<edit> When trying the above, I receive an error message that no USB device was found.
Secondly, I have CWM installed but don't know which version as it's installed 2 years ago. I've read that I could blindely try to open the "Mount storage" option but well, no clue which option that would be.</edit>
I think the problem is that I need to enable the USB access to the storage. Any idea how I can bypass this?
Thanks in advance all!
Greets,
Phil

Ok, I've now found a thread on the forum about using ADB and booting in recovery mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2395047&page=2
Will try that in the meanwhile.
Tips still welcome!
Thanks again .

Think it is in recovery mode but ADB does not find it.

Hi,
Adb will only work if you have usb debugging enabled in developer options.
As far as solving your issue, you will need to ask in your device section for help...
Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 > Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Simply plugging into your pc should allow you to see your files. But if it won't for some reason, and adb won't work...not sure what other options there are...also, adb works in the regular system...only works in recovery if your custom recovery supports it...and yes, you need to enable the mode in recovery. Hard when you can't see the screen.
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for posting the thread in the wrong topic.
When I plug in the S2, I will only see the portable media player but not the files. I tried several times to get it into recovery yesterday but without succes.
What about using a cable from mini usb to HDMI? Will it work when I just connect it to my TV?
My last option is to just replace the display but they are quite expensive going from 65-100 euro's..
Tips still welcome, thanks again !

Thanks for your kind respond,
the thread above finnaly lead to unbrick the device via ODIN, my usb port was not work properly , so ODIN will not help in this case.
anyway, thanks again for your concern bro.
if you want to keep trying. I think this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639955 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854207 not to bad to give it a try. Hope your computer could recognize the device. if so, I believe you can revive your tab. Thanks.
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.

[Completed] [Q] Soft bricked my Galaxy S4, please assist

Hello,
I was fiddling with my phone, and for reasons I won't go into, I think I soft-bricked my Galaxy S4. The situation:
I am still able to boot into recovery mode CWM
However I have formatted system, data, cache, sd card from the CWM menu (why - I don't know), and now I do not have any of my Cyanogenmod or original CWM backup zips available on my phone.
I tried sideloading but there is no "Install zip from sideload" option showing in CWM. Just install zip from sdcard.
Perhaps USB Debugging is turned off, but considering I cannot boot the phone into anything but CWM since it has been wiped clean, I cannot turn USB Debugging on.
I've downloaded Android SDK Manager ony my Windows XP machine, but when I go into the prompt to adb push onto my phone, I get "error: device not found". This is probably because USB Debugging is not turned on?
I tried installing PDANet drivers but the USB drivers could not be installed because USB Debugging was not turned on (according to the message box I saw when installing PDAnet on my laptop.
So given the above, I am not sure where to go next. I have the Cyanogenmod zip file on my PC, but have no idea how to get it onto my S4 so that I can install it.
Any ideas?
Thank you. I've tried googling for a day or two but I have had no success figuring out this particular problem. All the other threads and blogs say to just sideload it, but I cannot get my CWM to allow me to sideload.

[Completed] Have I just created a $600 paperweight?

Good evening everyone.
I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 that is under warranty. My left (recent) capacitive button has stopped working, so I'd like to replace my phone. Kick in the nuts number 1: I recently rooted my phone via PingPongRoot. No problem, I thought. I downloaded the stock firmware for the AT&T Samsung G920A, and prepared to flash the custom firmware. Kick in the nuts number 2: My data connection pins on the microUSB port are fried. I've tried 5 different USB cables, three different computers, and nothing. I've disabled and re-enabled the ADB debugging option from the developer menu. But everytime I start an ADB shell from the computer, I get nothing from the phone. Usually, the phone will say "phone is connected as a media device" or somesuch, but it only displays "charger connected". Also, normally, when I use the adb start-server command, my phone will ask me if I want to allow the computer to connect, but I do not get that prompt. adb devices returns nothing. I've tried factory resetting my phone 3 or 4 times to see if maybe it was an S6 end driver problem. No dice. So, I googled around, and it doesn't look like the firmware is possible to flash via the recovery menu? It looks like it must be flashed via Odin/Heimdall. Is this correct? And if so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I could fix this?
Thanks guys.
Hi there,

Recover Data Broken Screen

Hello all.
Unfortunately I dropped my phone last week which result in a broken screen (Glass got broken, as well as the lcd, black screen, touch works sometimes). Now I'm sitting here, trying to recover all my important data.
First guides you find on the internet are about some Backup Software for windows. Just connect your phone and youre ready to go.
(Almost, as you need to verify the connection or have to have adb/ usb debugging enabled, which I don't unfortunately.)
So those things about adb backup do not work aswell.
I do have a custom rom installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/update-to-marshmallow-t3399953.
Does this custom rom install a recovery? I tried booting into recovery like 100 times by pressing volume down as well as the power button. But without any optical feedback this is hard and I'm not 100% sure if it is even installed.
If not, wouldn't it be an option to install twrp or cwm? Is this possible without usb debugging enabled? I've managed to do this on samsung devices, even without adb through odin, while connecting the device in download mode. Is there something similar for LG?
I think if I get to manage to enable usb debugging it would work perfectly fine, I would be able to backup won't I?
Last thing I would try is buying an slim port to hdmi adapter, connect to pc and verify the connection to the backup software using an hdmi monitor. I think this would work, but maybe theres some way I overlooked which don't need me to buy this adapter.
Thanks for your Help,
Whitz
Unfortunately the Device won't show up when executing "adb devices".
Maybe because the device isnt unlocked at time of being?
The Device isnt recognized by the Computer either, so maybe the connection is unfortunately set on "Only Provide Power" or whatever this mode is called in english
Any further tips?

Firmware Upgrade Encountered an Issue. Tab 2 7 (P3110)

Hi,
Yes, I know, there's a million topics about this and I'm pretty sure I tried them all!
Long story short: been running Lineage OS on my Tab 2 for a while but it's been sitting in a drawer. Saw a video about using old tablets for emulating retro consoles and the Tab works a dream for that. So I bought a Bluetooth controller for better gameplay but it just wouldn't work under Lineage so thought I'd flash the original ROM back onto it to see if that would work. I'm not a n00b, but haven't done it for a while so thought to be safe I'd follow a guide. All seemed to be working well when Odin crashed and left me with the Firmware Upgrade Failed error.
I've been trying for about four hours to get it back, but having no luck. I've tried the latest version of Odin, as well as the old 1.7 version I was using; tried Kies, tried uninstalling Kies; tried uninstalling the stock drivers MS installed when connected, no go. Interestingly Odin doesn't seem to see the Tab at all now, so I tried the UniversalADB installer, tried installing ADB drivers as well as Samsung drivers manually, but nothing works, it just sits at "connecting" but never actually does. Also tried different stock ROMs to no avail. I think my issue is with the ADB drivers, just don't know how to fix it.
I don't know what to try now. Any advice?
Using MS Surface Pro (2017) running Win10.
Not allowed to post screenshots, but do have some.
Thanks.
How is the tab behaving after this crash?
Can you use the tab as usual? But you are still in LineageOS? If Yes, what version of LineageOS?
Can you still get into Recovery Mode? If Yes, what Recovery and version do you have?
Download Mode seems Ok, but not Odin at the PC end. Correct?
The more info you can give the better. Also if you prepared the tab in any way other than just entering download mode.
Did you enable USB Debugging for example? (but I'm not sure how important that is)
Or wiped anything in recovery?
I'm not sure if I can help, but surely there must exist someone here that can. I'm new to the android world, but used to work in IT Support and Network Administration.
And 100 years ago I blogged with Blogger, but sat and amended the xml-file to get the design I wanted more than creating blog entries
Anyway, I hope it gets sorted.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply and sorry it's taken me so long to respond; I've got several health issues I have to work around!
I can't get into the OS at all, it's just stuck at the "Firmware upgrade..." screen and there's nothing else I can do with it.
It was rooted and I was running TWRP recovery, but can't access it at all now. I did a wipe in TWRP but was still able to boot into it before I ran Odin. Odin worked fine, then it just stopped for reasons unknown and now there's nothing I can do with the Tab at all.
I see this in Device Manager: samsung mobile usb cdc composite device. Have tried manually installing driver but nothing seems to work.
Have tried it on my Mum's Win7 machine, but to no avail. I really need ADB drivers but I can't install them without turning on debugging on the Tab and I can't do that because I can't get out of this blasted error screen!
There's literally nothing else I can say about it as this is all that's happening.
Annnnd, now it doesn't seem to want to hold a charge. :crying:
Thanks again.
I've tried following a few tutorials, but I can't get past the ADB issue. Does anyone know of, or can link to, a solution to this please? I really want my Tab back!
Thanks!

Maybe a longshot, but you can test if this free version can access the tab:
https://www.tenorshare.com/products/reiboot-for-android.html
No use buying if it can't.
But since Device Manager sees something it's worth a shot.
Do you have to longpress power button to turn it off?
If so... when the screen goes off, have you tried to quickly let go of the power button and immediately press it again together with Volume Up?
Or down, for download instead of Recovery.
With my P3100 it was much easier with no charger plugged in...
Edit:
Tried the software and my tab is OK, but no connection established anyway. Only result was that I couldn't access tab in File Explorer and MTP state... only PTP.
In Device Manager I got a new Android Device: Something like Google Nexus ADB... sorry but I uninstalled it directly without noting exact name.
Replugged USB cable and MTP working again.
