GPS issues with Roms other than stock***FIXED!!! - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Dear VZW cats with GPS issues. I have solved it! Step one: Download a VZW 4.4.3 stock rom. Step two: From said stock rom extract gps.conf and gps.conf_default. Step three: Delete gps.conf from AHRD (or whatever Rom you are using )in system/etc. Step 4 copy the extracted files from the stock rom and place them into system/etc. Step 5: change permissions for both files to 0644. Step 6: Reboot and Profit!
I just did this and now i lock immediately. No more GPS issues for this guy! Hope this works for you guys as well!
I was running ARHD 11.1 and this worked perfectly for me. I couldn't get a lock at all before this ...let alone use navigation. I have not tried this on AOSP but it may work so please report if this works for you and what Rom you are on.
Hope this helps!
I have attached the files that I used to get this to work...Just unzip and place in system/etc

It worked perfectly for me, I just added them into the ARHD zip edited by @paulg1981 for Vzw and GPS locks instantly and doesn't disconnect.

Thanks for confirming dude!

Also works with AOSP. Confirmed. Thanks for sharing!

This saved me this weekend. I'm out of town this weekend and GPS wasn't working on Slim. Used this and now its working just like it should. Thank you!

Awesome tip, thanks!
What I did was boot into recovery, have recovery mount /system (so it is writable), and then from an adb shell into recovery:
# sed -i 's/UMTS/CDMA/g' /system/etc/gps.conf
Rebooted and it worked. This was on Cyanogen M11.

GPS locked for me - running ViperOne 2.5.
Thanks for the find!!

No problem!

I tried this and even tried to use a 0P6BIMG.zip to restore to stock and still could not lock on GPS except every once and a while. Any thoughts?

You might have a bonk GPS chip

Which ROM are you trying? I've personally never had a GPS issue on any AOSP or GPE ROM until I tried DH's GPE with ElementalX kernel. I could never get that to work with any method I tried, but switching kernels fixed it automatically.

I did a factory reset in HBOOT with stock recovery and it started working fine again for me.

My GPS locks on fairly fast, but when I use Navigation, it's pretty much useless. Not sure why. The Navigation voice keeps saying "GPS signal lost". If I'm stationary (like sitting at home) the GPS locks on almost instantly.

Would I have to be on stock recovery for HBOOT reset to help?
I updated readio/fw to 4.4.4 and have viper 3.1 and can't get any GPS lock. I tried different .conf files but nothing.
Going back to stock my only option?

This didn't work for me Never get a GPS lock at all. Using GPS Test (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest) to validate. Yes, location services is all on, AppOps disabled for google maps / GPS Test. Rebooted several times. Clear and update AGPS (via gps test app), but doesn't help.

I'm having the same issue. Nothing I have done has helped.

This fix didn't work for me, either. After flashing UnSenseSIX, I would get 0 satellites showing in GPS Status and Toolbox.
I tried both the copying of the files to /etc/system method, and the 'sed -i 's/UMTS/CDMA/g' /system/etc/gps.conf' method.
Restoring nandroid backups of previous AOSP and Sense ROMS didn't resolve.
I was finally able to resolve it by installing a stock, rooted 1.55 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2731893
When I went into maps, it said that my location services were disabled in my previous version (it wasn't...), and when turned location services on, everything worked. I was then able to restore my AOSP ROM and get GPS satellites again.

Not sure if directly related but there is a large thread on Google bugs with GPS issues for 4.4.3 and 4.4.4: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311

I'm guessing the 1.55 is outdated. He has this one up though: "Stock Rooted - VZW OTA 3.28.605.4 - De-Odex" Do you think that would would have the same effect?

Yes, I used his latest 3.28.605.4 to resolve my issue.

Unique Wi-Fi Problem.. Please Help.

Hi Guys.. I own an T-Mobile branded HTC One S with the S4 processor.
Here's the problem: I can't connect to Wi-Fi at my job... and only at my job. I can connect at home just fine with my personal router, and just about everywhere else. What's interesting to note though is that I only can't connect when using an AOSP/AOKP-based ROM and also when using the latest STOCK T-Mobile USA Jellybean ROM.
The phone can connect from both at work and at home when running stock ICS and when running ViperROM 2.0, which I believe is based on the European JB update, not the American one.
At work, we have these Cisco MERU wireless access points throughout the building. The phone can pick up the SSID (we have two SSID's actually; one for guests and one for corporate) but I can't connect to either one. When I try to connect, the phone says "Scanning, Connecting to ..., Disconnected" and just loops. If I go into the more detailed Wi-Fi view, I see the name of the SSID I am trying to connect to, and underneath it says "Saved, Secured." Eventually it changes from "Saved, Secured" to "Authentication Problem."
I actually work in two seperate buildings that both have these Cisco MERU access points, and both buildings give me the same problem. They are using WPA2-AES
I have tinkered and tinkered for weeks now, and eventually lost SuperCID and S-OFF. I thought I could fix the problem by going back to stock everything. Little did I know that upgrading to the latest T-Mobile USA JB would no longer allow you to S-OFF and SuperCID. Anyway, even on this latest stock ROM, I can't connect at work. Like I said, I could only connect when I was on ICS or on a European JB ROM.
Just for a little background, this isnt the same Wi-Fi problem everyone else is having where they need to flash the "extra JB partitions" zip file or the "Archive.zip" file floating around. Even the "temporary radio installer.zip" doesnt solve this.
Is there any way at all that I can extract the Wi-Fi "drivers" from ViperROM 2.0 and install them on my phone for use with the latest USA JB ROM???
Here are my phone stats by the way:
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.15.000
RADIO-1.13.50.05.31
And I am running the latest T-Mobile USA Jellybean stock ROM which I got from using the latest RUU. (RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2)
I would really, really, really appreciate any feedback from someone a lot smarter than I am. I know I typed a ton.
It seems like there's some kind of Wi-Fi "security protocol"(for lack of a better term) or what-not that this latest JB update doesn't support. For some reason ICS supported it, but the American JB and AOSP/AOKP do not. I obviously can't change what kind of security the Wi-Fi at my job uses, so I'm really thinking there must be a way to just copy the Wi-Fi "drivers" (for lack of a better term) from ICS or from ViperROM and put them on my phone.
Does anyone know how to do this? Is this even possible? I read something about /etc/lib and something involving .ko files, but I would just like someone with a little more expertise than myself to chime in.
In case anyone is actually curious(I doubt it) I at least made SOME progress. I can now get Wi-Fi to work on Sense-based roms that are based on the latest T-Mobile USA Jellybean OTA. Here's what I had to do:
S-OFF'd my device using "Moonshine" method (THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!)
1. Flashed ViperROM 2,2
1. Using "Root Explorer" app I copied every file in /system/lib/modules folder from ViperROM 2.2 and put them on my SD card.
2. Flashed "United Basics" ROM (based on JB OTA)
3. Confirmed that Wi-Fi was working at home, but not at work.
4. Copied all of the modules from Viper to /system/lib/modules and overwrote everything using "Root Explorer"
5. Rebooted into recovery.
6. Flashed "Sense-Radio-Installer-v6.zip" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998270 and made sure I selected the checkbox for "Sense Wi-Fi fix" (it's selected by default)
7. Rebooted back into system and bam... Wi-Fi now works perfectly.
Flashing the "sense radio installer" alone was not able to fix the problem; you have to copy those modules first. Now I just need a similar method to get this to work on AOSP/AOKP roms.

First, I just want to thank you for taking time out to read this thread and offer a solution. Unfortunately, flashing that zip file didn't work. As a matter of fact, after flashing it, I can't even turn Wi-Fi on at all anymore. I tried flashing it in the Xperia Z ROM by Taylor_Swift and Dark Jelly S Edition Build 31. In both cases, I couldn't turn Wi-Fi on anymore after flashing your zip. But thank you for trying.

Oh OK. In my latest update, I mentioned that I already found a fix for stock/Sense-based ROMs. I am now looking for a fix for any non-Sense ROMs. I tried the "temporary-radio-installer but that doesn't do it.
I did manage to find ONE non-Sense ROM where the Wi-Fi actually works at my job. It's a ROM called "liquid_ville-ics-eng.v1.5mr1"
I am trying to see if I can somehow copy some files from that ROM to get my job's Wi-Fi working on other, newer non-Sense ROMs. That ROM is ICS-based and so is a little too outdated for me.
Thanks again, though. At least you tried.

[Q] Radio 1.13.50.05 & HBoot 2.15

Is anyone familiar with whether or not one can flash a new radio on the HBOOT 2.15.000? I believe the one it comes with is giving me trouble on the T-Mobile network (data drops randomly). I've tried CM10.1 with the 3.4 Kernel, Illusion Rom and PACMAN rom and none of which seem to get a stable connection with the radio-1.13.50.05.31_10.50.08L. Additionally, I can't edit the build.prop file as it's COMPLETELY different than the previous ones. Suggestions?
I've attempted to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255906&highlight=radio the radio found there via fastboot and received an error:
C:\Users\TE\Downloads\BehradGH_HBoot_2.15.0000_TWRP_Recovery (1)\fastboot>fastb
ot flash zip radio.zip
sending 'zip' (19455 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.160s]
writing 'zip'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 2.194s
I then attempted to flash via recovery and it goes through successfully however, nothing changes, it's still the same radio once I reboot. I've even tried the AROMA Installer for ALL HBoot and that doesn't work either. I've tried install higher radios and lower radios and none hold true once the phone boots. Should I try a different ROM? If so which do "you" suggest? Am I missing something prior to installation that I'm doing wrong?

we dont have a enginering hboot so forget it using fastboot.
use the temp or sense installers in the dev section.
As I said, I tried the AROMA installer from that post (which is the temp installer you are referring to) via recovery and it still didn't work.
I'll try a sense installer and a sense rom later. Thank you.

It will only change the radio version shown under settings-about phone. It will not change it on the bootloader screen. Only the sense installer will do that, but you must have soff. The temp install will also work for sense in the same way.
The signal issue is also a known problem for the new 3.4 kernel aosp roms

It doesn't even change it in about phone section.
So, what you're saying is that if I change the kernel I could potentially solve the erratic behavior of the radio?
I'm not sure if you were linking DarkSense hinting that I should try that or if it's just your signature but I'll get it anyways. Thank you. I'll try your suggestions after work.
I had the same problem, couldn't flash radio, i flashed 3.16.401 through cwm and then flashed ruu 3.16.401 which changed the radio, couldn't flash ruu before because i had higher version than 3.16.401 orange uk branded and had problem with signal once a day i got emergency call only, now i'm with 3.16.401 and no problems whatsoever, stock runs nice on one s till cm gets stable
I struggled with the radio flashing for 2 days having bootloader unlocked and s-off, ****ty branded network

It's my sig. I do the theme work on plus tweaks and other stuff.
You can't just change the kernel on a room that uses a 3.4 kernel, you would either need to switch to a sense room or an older asop style ROM.

Hello all on my first post.
Background:
Long story short, screwed up my phone a little while back, recovered with: RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_TMOUS_2.35.531.7_Radio_1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e.50.04L_release_279577_signed
Everything peachy after that, then a couple of days after I got a hold of:
RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.17_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_320836_ICS_2_JB
Then the problems started, every ROM I tried, the connection dropped and had to restart the phone. Tried to Facepalm, Moonshine, Super CID 11111111, nothing. Spent hours reading and thinking how I could get around this, I can't S-Off, so I can't change the radio and use a regular ROM like CM or BlackBean, not that I'm not grateful, just Sense is not really my thing. Tried BlackBean 9 with kernel 3.4 and didn't worked.
Any ROM that is not Sense based would not keep the signal for internet, unless rebooted.
So my question is: once you have HBOOT 2.15.0000 and Radio 1.13.50.05.31 you are screwed, did anyone in the same situation got S-Off or got it to work some how?
I did make a mission to check the forums for the methods I mentioned for the past 3 months, weekly if not daily.
The phone had originally:
HBOOT-1.14.0005
RADIO-1.11t.50.02.22
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC-boot
Nov 21 2012, 12:17:41
But couldn't find the RUU with that radio, so used the one with 1.08ts.
Thanks in advance.

Nope. Tried Unknown, DarkSense, TrickDroid and SourcE connection is all good. AOSP [regular] ROMs need to reboot the phone, reload APN settings or get in and out of Airport mode, then it works for a while then drops the signal.
I forgot if incoming or outgoing calls work or not on regular ROMs.

Try the 4.2 ROMs. Data drops have been removed.

Installed ville_PAC_JB_4.2.2-v23.0.0_20130716-224253 last night, in the morning, tried to see a few pages, same shtick, no data connection. But remembered to test the phone and it connected to voice mail.
Hmmm.
Tried Odyssey 2.50 for about 10 hours, no problems. But didn't installed my usual apps, just kept checking on the data to see if it dropped, all good. Then got a hold of Odyssey 2.70 actually put all my apps in, configure the interface and such, nothing fancy.
Then I tried to use the data, nothing, but not even tried to load the pages, I found it strange, because before it was usually after a few hours that the data started to act up with the other ROMs I tried. Then it occurred to me, why not try deactivating DroidWall 1.5.7, BINGO!
Data did dropped at times but it came back up, and loaded the page, I guess it was because a data cap, I'm just guessing. But if it makes it the whole day without giving problems, that was probably the culprit:victory:

Hey the problem is the rom! it just has the meta it need the system file without it it will fail. also you need recorvery clock work mod or twrp without then it is a fail but find a better rom first
I got the same problem. Ran the JB_TMOUS RUU and lost my phone signal. I tried newest CM rom (4.4.2) but it didn't help. Tried flashing temporary radio V4, and it made no difference. How do I get my phone service back?

Now, I am in the same s*** position as you. Did you solve the problem? If you did please, explain how did you solve it.
"cough" A bit late, but just for future reference for anyone that might find themselves with the same problem.
Get a hold of rumrunner to S-Off, thats the only method that I've tried that worked, also if you can't find rumrunner, get a Sense ROM to keep you using the phone.
I gave up after a long wait for a reliable S-Off method, so my phone was stored for about a year been using my old Sensation 4G.
And just to put it out there, always check, double check and triple check before you do anything, if you are impatient at the moment, go out for a smoke, get some gum, drink a beer, whatever you need to do to relax a bit, and then go back to the task, I know is not surgery but it felt like that at times.:silly:

[Q] T-Mobile Data EDGE

Recently S-OFF and SuperCID and lost T-Mobile 4G speeds. Have been going through the forum for a few weeks now looking to resolve this problem. This includes numerous wipes back and forth trying different solutions, currently back to S-ON and SuperCID TMOB010 without any luck.
Is anyone aware of a working solution to restore 4G connectivity without getting a new phone? I'm out of warranty and do not wish to use insurance to swap it out (deductible)
Device Information:
Bootloader: 2.15.0000
Baseband: 1.13.50.05.31
Baseband-Version: 1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e 50 04L
Misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
Platform: HBOOT-8960
CIDnum: T-MOB010
Security: ON
RUU: RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_TMOUS_2.35.531.7_Radio_1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e.50.04L_release_279577_signed
Kernel: 3.0.80 TwiSTeD-V_GeN2-gba12223-dirty
im having the same problem after flashing the new firmware/RUU to get hboot 2.15 which was required for cm10.1.3 stable rom; i followed these directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322755&highlight=lion
the rom flashed fine, but i couldnt stand the lockscreen delay so i went back to cm10.1 experimental. Thats when i noticed no more 3g/4g, only edge (i believe i didnt have 3g/4g on 10.1.3 stable either). Whenever i force 3g and switch airplane mode on then off, i have 3g/H+ speeds for a few minutes (so i dont think the hardware is fried or anything), but then it loses signal altogether until i allow edge again. i think i found a potential fix here... but i have no idea what to do with the link:
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/48342/
from post #6516 from the [ROM][S4][WIP] CM10.2 on HTC One S [official nightlies] thread in the htc one s development forum. can i get some help on how to apply a patch? thanks!

This is actually a a merge request from their revision system and if you look carefully, the change has been merged to the CM10.1.3 branch and the release candidates too. That means that it is not in the official updates of cyanogen mod. If you got 10.1.3, you should be getting this fix in the updates, plus it's kind of old, you probably already have it.
Not sure if this fixes anything

Wifi error

So my wifi doesn't work.
Everytime I try to put it on, it switches off almost immediately . Sometimes I am not even able to switch it on at all. (the switch button becomes grey).
I got this phone from a friend of mine a year ago. The wifi wasn't working either back then (but I believe it had worked at some point in the beginning). When I got the phone it still had the stock rom. Then I flashed some custom roms, mostly CM (gingerbread, ICS). That didn't do any good for my wifi. So I downgraded my hboot and s-offed my phone. Also flashed a new radio, but that didn't help either.
I am slowly beginning to think that it's a hardware issue. But today, ever since a year, my wifi turned on and I was connected for 10 minutes! Then I rebooted my phone to see if it would work again, but unfortunately it didn't.
I read something about flashing a new kernel to fix your wifi, could that do the trick?
Also I read a lot about doing clean rom installs to fix your wifi (so wipe all partitions etc), tried that, didn't work.
Info about my phone:
Android 4.2.2
CyanogenMod 10.1 -20130808 -unofficial-saga
kernel version: 3.0.84-g0263617
radio (baseband version): 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_m
Hboot:
saga put ship s-off RL
hboot 6.98.1002
radio: 3822.10.08.04_m
I hope there are some things I have overlooked, because it would be so great if wifi could be fixed.
Thanks in advance!
flash the latest kernel by flinny, it should resolve the wifi issue,
Clean install is preferred when u change ROMS.

Just to clear things up. Do you mean the andromadus kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097379
edit:
I've flashed the andromadus kernel by kylon. Kernel version 3.0.101. Wifi still isn't working.
I can't find the kernel by flinny. Do you have a link?

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Stable) - no GPS

After running with TrickDroid (4.0.4) for a long time I decided to give Cyanogenmod a go.
I was only on hboot 1.13.0000, so went through a long and convoluted process to get myself up to 2.15.0000 and radio 1.11.50.05.28 - basically by RUUing back to stock ICS and then letting it upgrade the phone to the latest JB.
Anyway, cm-10.2.0-ville.zip flashed and installed fine, and most things I've checked seem ok, but I now have zero GPS signal.
Not really sure what to try next? This is my first foray away from the world of Sense. Help

I saw a post that a guy took out his SIM, then rebooted and re inserted the SIM and GPS returned.
I can't remember if it was switching to Sense or to AOSP, but I remember another GPS issue that some people fixed by downloading a GPS status app and simply using it. GPS worked fine after that. Worth a shot anyways.
Removing the sim card worked! Brilliant!
