PA features - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I been using OPO for last 3 weeks now... I m coming from galaxy s3 with liquid smooth ROM. Some of the feature I m missing are Halo and pie control.. Particularly recent apps button from pei. Can someone suggest how to get simile features?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app

Halo has been replaced with Hover or Heads Up. Mainly Heads Up.
Pie Controls, look for a ROM with the feature. Mahdi has PA Pie or Slim Pie (you pick)

Well I don't want to install custom ROM because I like CM I just want to get these features... I don't see these apps in play stores.. Can you provide link for apk?

There is a standalone app for PIE. Find it on the internet.
Heads Up is built into CM.

PAC rom has halo.
Also these days PA pie and slim pie are almost identical what comes to functionality, in other words they are useless, I suggest to use dbpie even through it hasn't been updated for a while.

Custom ROMs for Daily use

USING A CUSTOM ROM FOR DAILY USE
Hey guys have been bitten by the Jelly Bug and decided I needed JellyBean on my Note NOW!! as a normal Android user  tried out a few ROMs out there. Finally settled on Paranoid Android JB:CM 10 Hybrid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713 Its abosolutely super Hats of to Chef Utacka the daily update keeps me up to date with the developments. He has without a doubt solved the memory leak bug with JB roms. It is really smooth and the thought of going back to a TW based ROM makes me want to throw up a little
The only draw back of flashing a custom JB: CM 10 ROM on the note is that one can get a bit lost if using the note for business as all the Sammy TW Based apps dont work and some of the ones mentioned in the Themes and Apps forum are not refined, so decided to to list out a few which I personally bridge the gap on my note and help flashing the daily updates a breeze:
1) App Manager http://ow.ly/efNxe the best app to keep your apps all backed up. after a clean flash the only app you need to download is this one and it allows you to restore all the apps back. Or just download it and copy it to the SD Card so that you can install it directly after flashing the new update an re - install all the apps you need.
2) ThinkFree Office Mobile http://ow.ly/efOQn One of the best purchases I made for Rs 465/- it entirely replaces Polaris office, and is much smoother too.
3) Jotter http://ow.ly/efQ84 Does a super job replacing SNote and worth the Rs. 211/- asking price
4) Photo Editor Easy Photo Editor http://ow.ly/efQGo or SketchTalk - Drawing & Editinghttp://ow.ly/efQPD work really well replacing the sammy photo editor. I have just found Sketch talk and first few hours testing it out produced quite impressive results
5) G Tasks: To Do List http://ow.ly/efRqy syncs with Google calendar and provide the integration which is somewhat lacking in the Sammy Organizer.
6) SMS Backup & Restore http://ow.ly/efRMp for some of us who keep valuable information in our messaging app, please remember to back up all sms before clean flashing updates.
Enuf Said... our NOte is close enuf to the original but somewhat better because we dont have to wait for the high and mighty Sammy to give us the latest software
UPDATE:
App Manager failed me Twice. So shifted back to the Time tested Titanium Backup http://ow.ly/eDHzI
To find more apps to improve the functionality of our Note and make the functionality similar to stock i came across this lovely port of the samsung app store for CM 10 / CM10 based ROMs by XDA Member Amandeep Parmar http://ow.ly/eDHLD
This app store gives many App options which are not available on Google's Play store like Sketch! http://ow.ly/eDHY2 by XDA member Wabz and
Photo Desk : which allows doodling and annotating screen shots and photos, although this is a two step process unlike the single step process on the stock ROMs it is pretty easy to use and the apps do exactly what they need to.
The only thing missing was a good replacement for S - Memo which is required while taking on call memos, for now Papyrus http://ow.ly/eDIbn will have to do.
Still sticking to the Lovely work by Utacka and Paranoid Android team as my Daily Driver.. Super stuff
UPDATE: 10th Nov
Utacka's PA rom for NOte now has Stylus Gestures http://ow.ly/fb1I2 Configured them on my note as under:
Left Swipe => Emulate Back Key
Right Swipe => Recent Applications
Up Swipe => Emulate Menu Key
Down Swipe => Invoke Search
Long Press => Go TO Home
Double Tap => Jotter
Works super
I personally Love the CM 10 PA experience and just cannot bring myself to even try TW based ROMs anymore. But i was pleasantly surprised with http://ow.ly/fb1Qm The latest Stock XXLS7 Samsung JellyBean ROM by eybee1970.. I did not like that the dev says "Kernel is PROBABLY brick free. Flashed it anyway... It is smooth and stable !!
Please dont forget to Thank the Devs
Thanks
Thanks Boss really helped... wanted to flash a custom rom which was vanilla Google now thanks to this post i can do it with fraction of the time required for research :good:

Thanks to JimmyMcGee and Jared Burrows i found this app to replace Titanium backup I personally think App Manager does the trick for me but yes Titanium backup is usually the choice for Flasholics
I use Titanium Backup too....On GB first,on ICS and now on JB.
I take pro version on playstore but i not use pack restore on JB.
This app works fine everytime......
Thanks for the dev!

Its a known issue. I think he might have solved it in their 21st OKT release but if you switch off "Automatic Brightness" it should not Blank out

[Q] Which ROM suits me better? (No bashing please)

Have the P3110 which means I have the WiFi only model. I am torn between Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Pac Rom. CM10.1 is more popular and it's like stock Android. The problem I have with CM is the notifications pulldown, I want the default sliding toggles that come with Touchwiz, not the square tiles, which look like they just waste space. That's my only problem with CM. Then I looked at Pac Rom and thought "Wow that looks sexy, all those vibrant colors!" and it had the option to change the UI between Tablet UI, Phablet UI, and another option I forgot. So I am swaying more towards Pac Rom, but I read the replies and it looks like there are lots of bugs, specifically the glitched boot animation, and apparently some glitches with the nav bar and changing the UI. What ROM is better for me?
If you can wait, than choose P.A.C man, it will suit you the best.
Sounds like you want a 4.1.x rom rather than a less stable 4.2.x rom. I'll always suggest aokp milestone 1 to everyone.

I want 4.2, but it sounds like there's no stable 4.2 ROM yet. I still want it though, what is the most stable 4.2 ROM?

But the tiles are ugly, is there any way to change them to sliding toggles?
No, this tiles are the new feature of 4.2.2, but you can have your old toggles back if you activatet them in Settings>System but you can not make the tiles disappair
There's a free app called notification toggles that you can use if you like the sliding toggles.

CM10.1 or AOSPA3+ for me.
I use Power Toggle widget. Very convenience, everything on/off is one click away.
I'm loving cm 10.1, defgo recommend it

[ROM][AOSP][4.3.2.1.000.000] OpenMaster Nightlies [grouper]

I will be compiling AOSP's master branch (almost) nightly. This branch is, at times, very unstable and can have many issues. Most issues cannot be fixed without upstream changes.
I guarantee no stability or the fact that your device will work. It's your choice to use this. Don't blame me for something that goes wrong (even though nothing probably will).
You will need to flash Gapps in order to use the Play Store. You can get Gapps from http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Flashing for the first time:
1. Reboot into recovery.
1a. Backup current ROM
2. Wipe data.
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gaps
5. Reboot
6. Enjoy

Nice to see another pure aosp out there! Too bad about tweaks though, some tweaks I just can't live without anymore. That aside I'd rather have barebones over bloat
Thanks for this great rom!

I may make another ROM at a later time that is a tweaked master branch, but for now, this is staying pure AOSP. I haven't seen any frequently maintained master branch builds, and I think that the n7 community needs that. It's nice to have an up-to-date build of what Google is working on.
And remember, if there's a super awesome feature you think it oughta have, maybe AOSP will merge your contribution!

Features I was thinking of were mostly addons & some performance some ui tweaks which I don't think an aosp purist would likely agree on:
Cpu/ I/O memory management
Battery bar (miui, not a big break away from stock but not important)
Quick Settings toggles: extra buttons
Nav bar button editing
Kill app on long press of back button
Recent apps clear all & memory display
Battery statusbar options (I've always used %)
Statusbar clock settings (right/centre)
Some of those are purely subjective but things like kill app on long press, QS and navigation button settings should be built into the aosp source IMO. I get your philosophy behind this and I don't mind the missing features but I don't think I can keep pure aosp for very long after being spoiled with so many feature rich roms over the last few years
There are many people who would appreciate this though so I hope it gets the respect it deserves. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll consider those if I ever work on another ROM. In the meantime, let's keep this thread fully focused on AOSP and this ROM. I really do appreciate the suggestions.
I have to try this. Downloading...
Is this a nightly of Googles stock rom?

Essentially, yes. As I am sure you probably understand, each git repo can have multiple branches and Google creates a branch after each stable release. However, they also have a working branch that they push to frequently (many times per day) with changes called "master" and this is a nightly build of that branch. So, this is like the stock ROM, except it is on their working branch, not their 4.2.2 branch. In the build files, this is referred to as "OpenMaster", and Android version 4.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.2.
You'll notice some features that aren't in the stock ROM and you'll notice some (but not all) of the features reported to be in the 4.3 ROMs.
This branch tends to be slightly less stable, but it also is very interesting to use. I use it as my daily driver and have for awhile. There are some bugs, but they tend to get squashed within a few days.
If you want to see a changelog, check AOSP review.
I have two more questions:
- How can I get notifications about updates?
- How can I build the Master branch for my Galaxy Nexus?
Oh and btw. good rom! It is really interesting to test those new features and have some bugs.

Sorry, but at this time, you'll need to check the downloads page daily (probably around 10PM GMT-5 I'll have done it if I will) to see if I've posted a new build for the day. Maybe I will later make an app and put it in the Play Store and it will notify you when a new build is posted.

You'll need to sync AOSP and it includes the source for GNex. You'll need to download the proprietary files separately and unzip them. If you have questions, PM me. Also, http://source.android.com/source/building.html may be of some help.

Thanks! I literally just synced the source and built it, but thank you.
Getting a late start on today's build. It should be up in about 1 hour.

I have respect for the stock aosp. If I could pick only one feature though it would be one in forgot to mention "statusbar brightness slider" I use it so much I forget it's there.
I can live without those though, I'm glad to see openmaster working on the n7 and I'm going to try to live e without the frills! Thank k's for this pure rom,

Check out this handy tool. I'm usually anti widget but this lil tool is amazing for setting a brightness slider anywhere on the screen.
I've used it since way back before the status bar mod was available and I still use it pretty often if the ROM doesn't have it included.
Can be configured I'm about every way possible.

OpenMaster with 4.3 (officially versioned as 4.3.2.1.000.000) is available for download. Grap the latest nightly here.
SuperUser is almost definitely not working; additionally I cannot confirm how well the gapps package works with 4.3.
This release is 4.3 plus what you see merged on AOSP Code Review.
This build was made with the 4.2.2 proprietary binaries. A build with the 4.3 proprietary binaries will be released later today.
Edit: The build available (AOSP-OpenMaster-kalaker-grouper-20130724-fixed_binaries.zip).
IMPORTANT: As of 20130724, the OpenMaster builds are based on Android 4.3. With Google's official release of Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 (grouper), a new bootloader, version 4.23, was released. OpenMaster builds after 20130724 have only been tested with the new bootloader. No support will be provided for users of the older bootloaders.

jfltespr and kitkat (gummy rom review)

I wanna be able to post so i am posting here.....
yesturday i switched from carbon nightly android 4.3 which is a very good rom with more options then you can shake a stick at. But i wanted to take a bite of that kitkat bar.
I flashed gummy roms with their provided gapps... and wow...everything is so stable and works! I was tempted to get the nexus 5, but why now? GS4 is a better phone is some ways. The worst thing is that i am stuck on sprint, but they are getting better.
i soon noticed that the gummy gapps was incomplete. It was missing the GEL google now launcher. I decided to try PA GAPPS with it and dirty...... bad choice... afew flashes later and a data wipe... JFLTESPR+ Gummy ROM 4.4 Beta + PA GAPPS = Nexus 5
so far it is flawless.... one bug i see is in the mail widget... you are unable to select the inbox.... this is frustrating ...but i can live with unread only for now.
PA gapps also included hangouts, calender, play games icon, chrome, google pictures, play music, play video, and other goodies......
Yes. Excellent Rom. But camera is giving wake locks and some hardware features aren't yet available. But it's great as a daily driver.

Mod Request: Close all Apps

The Multi power reboot menu mod for the Stock N5 image is fantastic. There's one other tiny mod that I sorely miss from Shiny on my GNex:
"Kill All Recent Apps Mod - Places a small button in the bottom left corner of the Recent Apps screen that allows you to remove all of your recent apps from the list with a single tap."
I've seen someone else mention some ROM that has such a feature . . . but part of my joy in owning a Nexus is running a very-nearly-stock version of Android, with a couple of minor tweaks or mods to add or change things I want.
I'd be very grateful if someone whipped up a version of this mod for Stock N5s.
This would indeed be a very awesome mod, second vote!
Yes, they have this option for notifications, why not in recent apps? CM does have this.
+3
If you run cataclysm ROM it has this feature. It pretty much is stock ROM with a bunch of needed/useful options. I've been running build "Nov 20, 2013 Stable" as my daily and no real issues yet. Definitely worth checking out.

I would love this on stock. My stock room runs smoother than the cataclysm rom. Scrolling is slightly better. So does anybody have a flashable zip?

Or wait for xposed and gravity box
I agree, I really want to keep stock rooted on my N5 with add on mods. If any developer can throw one of these out, that would be like O M G; T Y!?
that option is included in most custom roms
Current/updated Gravity Box has it; not all GB features work, but some do.
See top right.
Well, it's still halfway into the status bar, but it can still be used somewhat.
GravityBox does this. Works great.
