"Messages" battery drain, "transactionservice" always running - Android General

Hi everyone. A friend of mine has got a problem with his samsung phone running android 4.4.2. His device never goes in deep sleep. I found out it is due to "messages" stock app. If he deactivates it, here we go! deep sleep again.
There's one messages service always running and it's called "transactionservice", I believe it's the culprit, but there's no way to stop it, it always restarts itself.
I sent him an MMS, he received it but he can't download it, it gets stuck at download process (with data enabled, we haven't tried wifi still but I expect he will report results shortly)
reboot doesn't work
deactivate and reactivate "messages" doesn't work
changing default sms app doesn't work
clearing data and cache of "messages" doesn't work
unchecking "receive push messages" and "auto retrieve mms" on messages settings doesn't work
he doesn't want to do a full factory reset, let alone flash the whole firmware with odin
His carrier is TIM (Italy), his MMS apn is configurated correctly. What else can we try?

sms notification?

So my phone keeps telling me i have a text from my sister, but when i go to the inbox there is nothing there, so i will clear the notification from the dropdown menu. but every time i get another text say from one of my friends, the one i cleared from my sister will show back up again, but once again its not in the inbox, and its been doing this for about a week now. has anyone else had a problem like this?
Try this, go into your messaging app and delete the whole thread with your sister. See if that gets rid of the notification reapearing. If not, reboot the phone. And if that doesnt fix it either call tmob (if that is your cell provider) or try a factory reset (this will erase all the programs you have installed and settings so do as a last resort unless you like setting up your phone again).

yeah i have deleted the whole thread, that didn't work. and it only shows up if i have chomp installed? i have uninstalled it and re-installed it but it keeps showing up.
Hmm, you have another phone you can put your sim in? If so try that, see if you get the sms on that phone. If so delete it. Reboot the secondary phone and see if it shows up again. If not, put the sim back in the G1 and see if it comes back. Otherwise Im thinking a factory reset is in order.
Maybe its saved on the sim. Go to setting on the messaging app and check your saved sim messages.

HTC Desire (froyo) says Sim Changed for no reason on boot

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the proper forum to ask this but I've got an issue with my HTC Desire's install. The device is unrooted so it's just HTC Sense Froyo. So here's the story:
1. Yesterday my mobile data connection stopped working. I went in the settings, checked the APN and noticed that my settings had changed. Instead of provider.com, I know saw provider.com[disabled]. I have no idea how the [disabled] got there, so I removed it.
2. I leave the settings, press the mobile data connection toggle and still nothing happens. I try to go back to the APN settings but I get a com.android.settings crash. Right...
3. I decide to reboot the device. After entering my pincode, I'm greeted with a "Sim Changed - Tap here to change settings" notification in the notification bar (next to the LookOut icon). That's strange since my SIM was exactly the same and my Watchdroid Pro app was not triggered by a different SIM card (seeing that my gf did not receive an SMS about a SIM change). I decide to tap it and bam... com.android.settings crashes.
4. I decide to ignore that and I go back to the APN settings. Now I get a list of providers from which to choose an APN. My provider isn't among them so I just pick one. It has the same issue with the [disabled] thing. I remove it, enter my real provider's APN information and leave the settings. My data connection is still not working. So I go back to the settings and what do you know? Com.android.settings now crashes every time I go to the APN settings.
5. With an unrooted device there's not much to troubleshoot for me, but I find this APN backup app on the market. Using it I delete my APN settings and just to make sure I reboot. After that, I am still greeted with a SIM Changed message which I know ignore. I go to the APN settings, enter my provider's information and my data connection is working again. Sweet.
Now here are my questions:
1. Does anybody here have clue why my data connection stopped working and why I saw the [disabled] tags everywhere?
2. Does anybody know why it says the my SIM has changed, and how do I fix that? I still see that annoying false notification on every boot.
Thank you all in advance.

Are you using something like Juice Defender or an app that controls your data use?
These kind of apps mostly disable data by adding tags to your apn, to make sure the data connection is turned off...
That's all I know, hope it helps..

I have the exact same problem...
Also HTC_IME mod is switched off at every boot...
Did you happen to run the 'fix permissions' option on ROM Manager?
Just thinking out loud, but maybe it 'fixed' something that wasn't broken
EDIT:
I just opened the existing APN, pressed menu and deleted it...
A menu came up, asking me about my provider and so I selected the right one...
Directly after, I edited, because my provider has another Access Point I rather use...
After the next reboot there was no "SIM Changed" warning!
HTC_IME mod was deselected again unfortunately...

com.android.phone errors

After installing Liquid Smooth RC7/8/9 I was having problems where after a day of updating apps, restarting phone, etc, I wouldn't be able to take calls anymore.
My phone would ring, but when I swyped to answer, com.android.phone would force close and hang up, giving the caller busy signal. What was worse, I would have NO call log of who called, which sucked if I got a call while at work and unable to see who was calling on the screen.
I tried numerous factory resets and it would happen again, no matter how few apps I installed (1 at a time), I cleaned my contact list out on the PC after logging into my gmail account, deleting multi-entries where importing had overlapped/doubled/quadrupled contacts in the vcf file, cluttering my phone.
Cleared cache, fixed permissions, rebooted.
Finally I uninstalled facebook app after reading that contacts from social network, rebooted.
Still was getting error of android phone stopped working.
I think i boiled it down to the radio/network acquisition on reboots.... Only thing that seemed to work now was taking out my sim card, putting it back in and going to Mobile Network settings and putting it back to LTE GSM/WCDMA under network mode, reselecting my NEtwork Operator and Access Point Names..
Really annoying problem because I don't know if it's rebooting the phone that causes this, apps installed in combination with the contacts list, or what.
Thought this might help some people in case they were experiencing similar things.
Curious...
It sounds like a sync error of some sort with your contacts... it can be from the app side or from the Google side...
If you don't then possibly the sync services are jammed up on the phone app.
Goto Manage Apps>All Apps>Phone and clear the data for the Phone and reboot...
A lot of times it is the Facebook issue...
Hope that helps...

Yeah It is bizzare... I uninstalled facebook and left contacts alone to eliminate this from the equation.
On reboots, sometimes when I'm trying to select network carrier , it takes FOREVER to load the different carriers... I've come to the conclusion that if it takes forever to load/see the phone carrier options, chances are the com.android.phone will crash AND/OR it will work but i won't get call volume (neither phone can hear volume from the other) sometimes even when com.phone.android doesn't crash when phone rings.
Im thinking it's almost hardware related with the radios inside interfering or something...
I just had the original problem, reboot the phone, reselect the carrier (no delay/lag) and everythign works again.
I tried toggles up at the top after reading some stuff about how the GPS toggle has to be on/off ... when Wi-fi is toggled on, my cell-tower reception bars AND wi-fi icon are blue.. when WiFi is disabled, those reception bars turn grey... I thought this had something to do with it also, but it doesnt.. I'm getting calls with volume and no crashes now regardless of whether wi-fi is on/off or whether the phone is plugged in to the charger or not.
Right now, it's based on whether or not my phone boots in a "good" or "bad" mood it seems... very tempermental. I'm not blaming the Rom.. but it definitely seems to be carrier/hardware related that is causing the software (phone app) to go bonkers. I'm going to go back to installing my apps again for the 9000th time/factory reset.

[Q] Download Manager running and stalling... Gmail related?

Hi all,
Have a strange "issue" with my Z3 Dual.
I noticed yesterday that the Downloader seemed to be running, even though I hadn't asked the phone to download anything. Sliding the notification open seems to suggest that the download isn't actually running, but simply keeps notifying.
Data is not being sent or received, and the items always seemed to be images. I had thought it was my work exchange email (through Mailwise) or maybe even IM chats downloading images. Uninstalled them and reinstalled and that did nothing.
Finally this morning, I received and email (through my Gmail) from my property manager, and it had a pdf, the same pdf was trying to be downloaded by the manager! So it appears, that on my phone at least, Gmail is asking my downloader to download, without the actual download initiating, but simply keeps a persistent notification there! I also have a nexus 9 with the newest Gmail and its not happening there.
Has anyone else had this issue? I'm about to roll back latest update of Gmail to see if it fixes.....

Rolling back Gmail to original version has not helped.
It has happened to me, and it seems to be when using autodownload on any of the email apps if it begins to download and you suddenly lose the data is connection it gets stuck.
Just go to settings and apps and go to the Download app and clear the cache and data and that will take care of the persistent notification, then try to adjust your autodownload settings.

Agree with everything you've said, but in gmail, i've auto download of attachments on wifi to OFF, and Images to "ASk before showing". Not sure there are any other settings I can access?
I have, for the time being, turned OFF notifications from the download app - this is obviously not idea if I really DID have an actual download of a large size or being stuck I have no way of monitoring it.
Open to any other suggestions / ideas

Same happened to me (also have Z3 dual) but updating Gmail app seemed to fix this issue.
I have the dual sim z3. I originally had my active tmobile SIM in SIM slot 2 when I put it in SIM Slot 1 the problem went away. Rebooted and no more download manager in the background.

"Select Simcard" Notification

I am using a Droid Turbo with CM13 Nightly on Verizon. My texting app is VZW Message+ which I use for the WiFi texting.
Perhaps 5-10 times a day I get a popup notification from VZW Message+ asking me to select a simcard. There are two options: select simcard manually (grayed out) and then my current sim. I can only click my current simcard, and then it goes away.
It's not a major issue, but it's quite annoying to have to click that option before I can reply to a text or open an app.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to make it stop?
I had this happen as well, I did a clean flash and it was fine after. Not sure what caused it.
By clean flash you mean backing everything up and then starting from scratch with a fresh install? Do I need unroot and reroot or just install with cleared data?
