I have a Galaxy Tab with a TMobile WebConnect plan. When I place its SIM card in the G2X, I lose data connection despite the 4G icon still being on. I am not on contract with the G2X so I should be able to swap SIM cards right?
hello all
i have a 3g verizon xoom but im outside us.
here we have only gprs and and edge in 2g networks. no 3g yet (hehe but we have 2 wimax operators)
so i cannot use my sim card in my tablet, as i know it does not have the required hardware.
as i understand from forum posts, in 4g upgrade they will install a new mini-pci-e hardware and reinstall a new version of android.
may i buy that mini-pci-e card myself and install it? then can i use my 2g sim card on tablet for gprs or edge?
im in iran and cannot send xoom to motorola.
is there anyway to use sim card in tablet? with/without hardware upgrade

if i install the mini-pci-e card that motorola installs on xoom during upgrade, can i use sim card for 2g/3g ? (sms or internet)
i have found this : "If you bought your Xoom from Verizon, it will have no SIM card slot. Verizon's CDMA network doesn't use SIM cards. Also, if you bought the Verizom model, it will only work on Verizon, and not another carrier. There is also a WiFi-Only Xoom, and it does not have a SIM slot."
here : "http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/53440/Why+I+can%27t+find+3G+SIM+Slot+in+my+Motorola+Xoom"
but mine have sim slot with a plastic sim on it.
The Verizon 3G Xoom does have a sim card slot but no hardware inside to read the sim card. That is what the 4G upgrade was for, to install the hardware necessary to utilize the sim card for the Verizon 4G LTE network.
I don't know if anyone has gotten a Verizon Xoom working on any other carriers network.
Theres pix of the inside of my Uk3g Zoom somewhere...
how can i tell if my xoom is 4g or 3g i got it from craigs list and it don't have a verizon logo or any other cell phone company, it has the place for the sim card.
i want to root it but Im not sure what rom to install after work because some roms say that is for the 3g only.
any ideas it doesn't say anywere on the housing.
thanks.
If you are in the US and have a US Xoom without a Verizon logo, chances are it is a Wifi only. They all have that rubbery cover for the micro sdcard and a possible sim card, but the WiFi only version doesn't have the necessary hardware/connections to have a sim working.
So root and mod to your heart's content, and if you want connectivity get a personal hotspot.
On a side note, if it was 3g, it would be 3.2.1... 4g would be 3.2.2
From what I've read, you can pop a Verizon 4G sim into pretty much any unlocked LTE capable device and have it work.
Now I'm guessing this is going to be a no, but...
I got an Airtel 3G Data card (specifically the Huawei E1731) when I went to India and unlocked it, if I remember correctly it kept swapping from CDMA and GSM signals. Now if I pop the Nano SIM I got with my iPhone 5 into this data card, (I'll try to make my self a Nano SIM to SIM adapter) is there any chance of it working?
I've also heard if things like the 4G sim being deactivated when you swap to a 3G device. But wouldn't putting it in a 3G device be the same as using the iPhone 5 with LTE turned off?
And is there any chance of Verizon messing with my data plan if I put the sim in the data card and start using it with my laptop?
I just saw a a video of someone putting a nano sim in an iPhone 4s and it working so I think this should at least work on the data card, still worried about the Verizon side of this.
Also I just remembered something about different frequencies, would the fact that the data card is from India affect my ability to use it?
Actually, I'm pretty sure Verizon SIM cards are only for their devices. I don't think they work otherwise

I've read from a few different reliable sources, don't have any links on hand. But its the phone that is locked to a carrier, not the sim that is locked to the phone, so as long as the device is unlocked and has the required hardware, it should work with that sim.
In verizons case, at the very least the LTE should work with an LTE device, I'm not sure about voice, 3G, and 2G.
In that case you wouldn't get 3G on other phones, since the SIM cards Verizon has are for 4G LTE only, their 3G networks are CDMA and thus built into the phone.
LTE is a GSM technology which is the only reason they use SIM cards at all

That is what I was thinking, but the data card seems to have both CDMA and GSM bands and when I pop out the LTE sim from my phone I lose all signal not just LTE.
Now what I'm thinking is that, since the SIM holds all the Account info, etc, not just 4G related things, that if I pop it into the 3G data card, (I've seen Iphone 5 SIM be put into a 4s and work) that it should work. That is if the Data card is compatible, which I'm not 100% sure on.
The SIM in a GSM phone holds all the account information. The SIM in a CDMA phone is for data only - the phone will work for voice/text without it. The SIMs are different software/wise.

That's what I initially thought but, If that's true than why is my iPhone 5 not able to use Data, voice, or text without the SIM inserted?
I'm not to worried about it not working, the thing I'm concerned about is verizon messing up my plans if I try using the sim in a data card.
