I really need help bringing back to stock. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone has been bricked for months. I am trying this guide on xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
So far all the stock firmware seems to not work. I am 90% sure my phone is US Retail but I am not sure if it is XT1032, XT1045, Falcon, Peregine, or whatever it is.... So I am confused as to which files I am supposesd to flash to return to stock; and where they are located.
I currently have access to the bootloader and have TWRP custom recovery installed but I don't know how to install the stock firmware. If anyone could help me understand which model my phone is / why my flashing isn't working, it would be more helpful than they could imagine... :good:
Other threads I made on this simply redirected me to that thread, but I can't find any help or related topics :/
Additional info: I strongly believe that the model number is the issue as I followed countless other guides on how to install Cyanogen Mod and a couple other roms since I got this phone brand new. None of the roms flashed properly, none of the recoveries worked, until now. All I have is a recovery left and a bricked phone...( + access to the bootloader of course)

For your Model number Check Ur Mobile Bill/Box...

Could you also look it up with the imei #? In case a box is not available

try one of these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54757500&postcount=348

Thanks for the help, but I found the problem.
Opened the back of the phone to check the model number and it was XT1045 like I thought, so I had the right stock images. Problem was I did not have the Motorola drivers for mfastboot installed correctly. I used a guide to install them universally on mac and my phone is back up and running!

[Q] ROM Flashing

Hi! I am new to android flashing and rooting. A few days ago I bought a OPO from amazon ( 64 Gig ) and I checked for updates but it showed no updates available ( currently running on 4.4.2 ). So I entered the recovery and there I saw that the recovery was " CM SIMPLE RECOVERY <3e> KVT 49 L ". So later on I started my research and came to conclusion that its not the international OPO as there is no CYANOGEN branding on the back but the seller flashed this phone with CM11. I want to flash my phone with the actuall CM that's out for this phone which will get updated by the 1+ company. Please tell me the instructions of how its to be done. I am very scared of bricking my phone so tell the easiest way and also please give me the link of the official ROM. Thanks in advance!

Not able to update Verizon HTC ONE M8 to Android 4.4.3

Hello!
I have a Verizon HTC ONE M8 that no matter what it won't download the new update. I've bought 3 of them (identical) 1 month ago from Ebay. One of them was able to receive the update. On the other two i keep receiving the following message: "We were not able to download this update. To retry, go to Settings > Software update. "
My device is S-off (after a lot of effort). I've tried to get rid of all the bloatware and many more by flashing a new ROM. I have tried flashing ViperROM, ARHD, Clean ROM using TWRP Recovery, without any success. All of my attempts got stuck at the booting screen for more than 30 minutes without any success of booting into the OS. Clean ROM even refused to flash properly. Keep in mind that all the ROMs that I've flashed were based on 4.4.2 firmware, the one that my phone came with, not 4.4.3. I've searched on this forum for a flashable 4.4.3 OTA update, but no success either. What's to be done !?!? All my attempts of installing a new OS failed. Please HELP!
P.S: I'm a newbie when it comes to all of this stuff. First time doing S-off/ installing custom ROMs.

You probably won't be able to take the OTA with a custom recovery, it has to be stock. Best bet is to flash the 4.4.3 firmware from the development section since you're s-off, then flash an already rooted stock 4.4.3 rom. It's been a while since I've done this stuff so if I mentioned some incorrect info, my apologies.

I flashed back again the stock ROM and i keep receiving the same message over and over again. No TWRP recovery this time, just the red triangle. I guess my best bet is to try and flash the CleanROM ODEX 4.4.3 as mentinoned here: @branmuffin17
I'll come back with the results.

If you are on the old firmware you need to update firmware separately.
And btw, if you freeze just one system app that can cause a Vzw ota to fail.
Question.....Is the phone active on your account? I also had one in the drawer and got the same error till I switched it to the active device on my account.
It honestly sounds like there is something preventing the ota to even download, if that's the case use dottat's ruu to return to a clean slate, if it still won't download the OTA then I would be willing to bet money that they are defective or not genuine Verizon M8s And if I were to guess it's more of the latter that would be the only valid reason every Rom you've tried fails no matter what.

Based on what you said i went on some websites to check the IMEI/ESN of the device it seems to be OK. After that i went to the Verizon Wireless website to try an activate my phone and when it comes to "Enter your Device ID to check eligibility", I type in the IMEI and the following message apears: "The phone associated with the Device ID you entered is not compatible with the Verizon Wireless network." To me is strange because on the back of the phone it says Verizon 4G LTE. When it comes to the identity of the phone it is a HTC6525LVW. The phone is GSM Unlocked (I use my phone in Europe so i needed it to be GSM unlocked). More strange it is to me that i don't receive the same message when i type in the IMEI of the others Verizon GSM unlocked HTC's ONE M8 that i bought along with this one.
I guess my only chance is to flash the new firmware @here[and after that flash the Deoxed 4.4.3 Stock Clean ROM @here. If it's not going to work i really don't know what's else it's to be done.

The message from the vzw site tells me something is not right.
Google goophone or knock off gs4, the goophone also has an m8 now too... Even with all the branding and everything. And I've seen some gs4s that run what appears to be TouchWiz cloned to a T.
I'd try calling vzw and talk to a rep and it's possible that they could give you more info other than just what the site said.

So I did what I've said:
1. Installed firmware provided here @Tigerstown
2. Installed the Odex Stock Rooted ROM proivede here: @scrosler
I am pleased to announce you that everything is fully functional now
Phone is showing:
Android Version: 4.4.3
Software number: CleanROM 2.0.0 (after flashing it from @here)
Baseband version: 1.09.20.0702
Bulid number: 2.21.605.2 CL362279 release-keys
After managing to flash the 4.4.3 version of Android all went up without any problem. Tried to ARHD but it's still not booting. After that installed ViperROM which went up all, but to me it is not the pure HTC Sense 6 experience i was looking about and all that customization is to much for me, so i flashed CleanROM 2.0.0 and here I am. Everything is as it should be: no bloatware, pure HTC Sense 6, optimized performance... and above all the mobile hotspot is now fully functional, not to mention the EXT SAVER.
As a conclusion, to all that guys that are not able to update to the 4.4.3 version via the OTA updates provided by Verizon do what I did above (steps 1 and 2).
ATTENTION: Your device needs to be S-Off and bootloader unlocked + custom recovery!!!
Another thing worth to be mentioned: it would be great if the admins could flag this thread, cause I've seen so many users on different forums that are not able to update via the OTAs.
In the end i would like to thank to all the devs out there for their work and to the users for their support. Cheers!:highfive:

A few problems - IMEI, Rom, Root, recovery

Hi I succesfully flashed my brother in laws Lenovo A369i with the latest firmware Lenovo_A369i_4.2.2_(by_xdafirmware.com).zip found at http://firmwarefile.com/lenovo-a369i
I followed this guide and used the flash tool included in the firmware package above, and the latest usb drivers from below:
http://www.modifyandroid.com/stock-roms/lenovo/how-to-install-stock-rom-in-lenovo-a369i/
https://androidmtk.com/download-lenovo-usb-drivers
According to the phone, this version is A369I_S110_140108 - and when checking for updates it says that this is the latest one - but how can I be sure?
I searched on google and most of the times there are sites that claim to have the latest but they don't write which version it is(very anoying) so I can spend many hours(very slow internet connection) on downloading the one I already have or one older.
The information and guides on here Xda has not been updated for a while.
The Phone works with both phone calls and sms, but the IMEI is not written - so should I do that with SN_Write_Tool_v2.1504.00.zip, MTK Droid Tools or is there an easier way to do it - or should I just forget about it?
UPDATE: I got this sorted out now, by rooting with framaroot and using Chamelephon to first make random IMEI then reboot and change the IMEI to the correct ones.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My second problem is that the phone were unlocked before I flashed it and now its locked again - are there a guide to unlock it?
The phone were not bought with subscription, we bought it here in the philippines from Lenovo Mobile( not real Lenovo company but dealer/importer allowed to use the name(for god sake stay away from them)) and after repair the dealer sent back different older model(this A369i) with less battery and locked to Globe. After trying for 2 months to get them to give us the unlock code, I gave up fighting them and had it unlocked at phone repair shop were they had to use a box to do it, so I never got any code.
---------------------------------------
Third problem: I need to root it but not sure which tool to use?
Update: This is sorted out, see above.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fourth problem: I like to install custom recovery on it - but which one work best and allow to flash from SD card?
As this is the first time I have flashed an Mediatek phone, are there anything else that I need to do?
Hope an expert can help me

How can I install a rom downloaded from here with odin?

Hello,
Currently My J7 got stuck on boot window, all i can i do is to be able to reach the download mode, therefore i downloaded a custom rom (this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7/development/rom-t3713641 )
But I can't flash this using Odin, I'm very new to this, so what's the problem? How can i install this rom using odin?
Custom ROMS are generally flashed via TWRP (or similar installations). Odin is used to fix issues using stock firmware. I'd Google search both in your case. If your phone is down, you may have to flash stock firmware (via Odin) first, then follow well documented root procedures for your device model number (I'm guessing it's the exynos J7 Tmobile or Metro PC variety judging from the rom you linked). First order of business would be correctly identifying your phone model, then proceeding from there. Happy hunting!

No worries. I know the J7 has a plethora of sub-model numbers, it can be a little confusing. Just be sure to get as specific as possible regarding your specific device. The J700T for example needs J700T firmware, even though it fits into that broad range of Exynos J7 (or J7 2015). Thats the only J7 I'm familiar with, just stating the obvious need for precision. Good luck with flashing!

SM-G930A 6.0.1 unlocked running on T-Mobile flash to SM-G930T 8.0?

Hey guys,
My dad has a SM-G930A 6.0.1 unlocked running on T-Mobile. It is starting to show it's age (battery drain, apps not running like they should, etc.) and is still stuck on 6.0.1.. From my understanding, it should be possible to flash to SM-G930T, however I am a bit lost as to where to begin the process to do so. I tired going straight to 8.0 by flashing the SM-G930T 8.0 firmware files but this didn't work (I didn't think it would work, but it was worth a try). With that said, would it be better for me to just stick to updating to SM-G930A 7.0 via the guides posted, or is there a way for me to Flash the SM-930T 8.0 firmware? Thanks in advance.

Wow you guys really get screwed over there in the US with cell phones. It's a pain in the a** to do anything with your phones.
Anyway I'm guessing the phone was originally AT&T right? And now it's unlocked to any carrier.
If you just want to update the phone to the latest firmware then just flash AT&T Oreo. It won't affect the SIM it will still work as before.
If you want to flash any other firmware including T Mobile then you'll need to unlock the bootloader on the device and that's a whole different ball game. With plenty of guides on how to online.
Make sure you back up all the things you want to keep before flashing

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the direction. You are right, US phones are a pain. And yes, the phone was originally an AT&T phone, but was unlocked.
As for unlocking the bootloader, I've found different sources that say that unlocking the bootloader on this particular phone is not possible with this particular phone. I did read something about an engineering bootloader being used to get around a locked bootloader for rooting. Could this be used for flashing as well?

That's not entirely true. Using Odin you can flash any USA firmware onto any other USA device, no bootloader unlocking required.
It's very common for people to flash G930U over their G930V/T/A/P devices to remove bloatware

It's unstable and only lets the device charge up to 80%, your best bet woulld just be a full flash with Odin
This guide is a bit dated but it's the best one out there. Just make sure you google the latest Odin and use all 4 firmware files when flashing https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung-stock-firmware-using-odin

Thanks for the reply! I had tried flashing the 8.0 G930T variant last night with the latest version of Odin and the PrinceComsy version and got a Model Mismatch error. I read that the modified Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD would let me flash the firmware and ignore the Model Mismatch error. However, I didn't go through with it because I was not sure if I would brick my phone and instead erred on the side of caution and made my post here. Would I be safe to flash the files from SM-G930T_1_20180625111401_xf3965l42p_fac onto my current device?
If your firmware files are from a trusted source like sammobile, updato or samfirmtool then it should be fine
Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD seems to have positive feedback here on XDA so should be fine too https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572

Greetings-
I apologize for jumping in an already created thread, but I think I am in the same situation, and like to verify with you both before I use the advice please. I have a SM-G930T that I just purchased, and really like to run a custom rom. But I understand I can not because I have Android 8 on it. I know how to use Odin, and have the latest version plus you guys talked about it here. I have also already downloaded the stock rom from sammobile site. What are my options? Is there a rom I can flash the phone with using Odin that would provide better performance, less G..bage, and more battery life? Is there a way for me to root the phone? I really need an app that requires the phone to be rooted.
Thanks

Ok, so flash any unbranded Stock Rom for your device using this version of Odin which has been specifically modified to flash US devices. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572 PatcheD.zip is the file you want to download.
Then when you have checked the phone is working ok on undrnaded firmware you can go ahead and root the device using this method which is again for US Qualcomm devices. https://www.****************/2018/0...on-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-on-android-8-0-oreo/
Take you time and read instructions.

If I understand it correctly there is no unbranded firmware for the US, its all network specific but you can flash unbranded UK firmware and it will work fine, UK BTU is the one you want from sammobile.
Load into the modified version of Odin and flash.
This is what I found, and downloading.

Yes that's the right one but like the beanvee and i have said there is a specific way to flash this stock then root the device.
You also need Samsung USB drivers installed so your pc can talk to your device, there's plenty of guides around how to flash with Odin and what you need to do beforehand, the only difference with you is the version of Odin your using and then the method of rooting afterwards.

Thanks. I have used Odin before, and I already downloaded the patchD version of Odin from the link. Thank you so much. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. I still do not have a verified version of a custom recovery for this. Do you guys know of any? I found this link but the link to the suggested twrp does not work. I think it is this one. But I can not be sure. The original link points to a slightly different url.

Nope do not use that TWRP, it will flash TWRP but not boot it and you'll be stuck on Samsung logo forever.
There is still no way to unlock a Qualcomm snapdragon bootloader and i'm not sure anyone is working on it anymore.
All it means is you need to flash custom Roms via Odin or possibly the inbuilt S7 recovery, you just need to check the ROM is in a format which can be flashed that way.
With regards to finding a TWRP solution you'll have to do some serious searching on google and read everything.
There are already several de-bloated stock Roms on the forum if thats what you want to do. Root and custom recovery TWRP are two different things though, you get rooted so your good to go?

Yes root is my main goal, and you are right the debloated roms will work just fine. I can do w/o twrp. Just double checking here; since I am flashing the UK rom, and I believe one of the comments on this thread was how US images are locked tighter, would not I be able to find a UK version of TWRP for my phone? Just checking.

Yes root is my main goal, and you are right the debloated roms will work just fine. I can do w/o twrp. Now pull up a chair and listen closely.....99% of the American devices (including yours) have an extremely uncooperative Qualcommm Snapdragon cpu at it's heart and thus refuses point blank to play ball. The online community have done a fantastic job creating the modifications you are now using. The rest of the world (i'm happy to say) enjoy the S7 with an extreamly cooperative Exynos cpu at it's heart. It just loves to be fiddled with, it's a whore of a chip, constantly on the go with all kinds of neat tricks.
Anyhoo... my point is, the software has to be compatible with the hardware you catch my drift? All the cool little programs are written with a specific piece of hardware in mind, unfortunately for you guys Qualcomm is the ice queen.

Thank you so much. You guys are amazingly patient, and informative. Thank you for educating me, and helping me achieve my goal.
I have tried a few times but can not flash the files. I have attached screenshots, and followed the instructions here. Do you see anything I should be doing differently?
I initially thought the code came as one tar file, which I could flash, but it was a zip file, which I had to unpack.
