columbus...
btw adjust it, and then look at the photos and images on your device

Just above the camera icon looks good!

i don't think you understood what i wrote

Nope, care to explain?

change your color settings
then open any picture on your phone or go and browse some web pages - see the difference...
this setting we're talking about is mostly to help color blind people...
it will not improove your screen colors (ips screens, such as on lg g2, already has better and more realistic color reproduction than any amoled screen)
only advantage of amoled screen is the brighter color/contrast in daylight - but i'd always buy a device or computer monitor with ips screen panel...

Understood that already, but moving the pointer vertically without any bias left or right will only adjust contrast and saturation.

changing contrast and saturation changes the colors too...
i.e.
i have blue background wallpaper with a red middle element
when i change contrast and saturation - blue becomes black, and red gets so warm that it hurts the eyes...

Well, for me setting the circle at the point I mentioned has no such effect.

making the settings like you described (circle over camera icon) doesn't change much overall... just messes up colors and contrast a bit...
not feeling realistic anymore.. but if that's what you like - go for it
btw you also have a neat color calibration tool by @bender_007 called Screen Calibrator, if you want to further tweak your display RGB values...

Thank you so much for this tip! I do prefer deeper contrast pictures and this has just made me like the display so much more! Thank you!

Display burn-in?

This G Tablet is just out of the box, but appears to have some type of "burn in" that shows up one certain colored backgrounds. I noticed it first in the background of the application Tweetdeck, but the attached image is with the plain background using the free application called "Dead Pixel Test". It was a little tricky to capture with the camera, but there is an outline about 1/2 an inch all the way around the screen with rounded corners and on the left side it it juts out to a point sort of like a "speech bubble" from a comic. This is the third display color of Dead Pixel Test, "light grey". I didn't see it with any other colors in that program, but depending on what colors are in the background in other applications, this outline may appear.
Could anyone else confirm if their display has this issue? This unit is new, so I'm not sure how it would have any burn in like this, so maybe all displays have this, or maybe it's just a display defect on my unit.

I ran the dead pixel test and it didn't have any issues like your pic. If you bought in a store bring it back and show them the test and have them run the same test on an in store display model.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Definitley bring it back. Better to have peace of mind than to worry about it.
Scott
Thanks for the confirmation. It didn't look right and now it does sound like it's just a problem with this particular unit I have. I am going to take it into the store as you suggested.
LCD panels can experience retained images, but it's far less likely to be permanent than the phosphor damage seen on CRT tubes and plasma displays. The new OLED panels will probably be bad for this as well. Set a pure white background for a few hours at low brightness to keep the temperature down (with no icons) then see if your pixel test shows any difference. If the image is really permanently retained out of the box my guess would be that it was probably a test result screen from the factory.
Good reminder for the rest of us that screen savers/timeouts are important!

Contrast (true blacks)

How well do you know your fifty shades of grey? Rate this thread to express how good the Google Pixel 2 XL's display contrast is. A higher rating indicates that black is true black, rather than a very dark gray.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Amazing contrast. Here's my home screen. I love the ink blacks and icons standing out.
Wallpaper - Live Earth - Google wallpaper
Widgets - Weather timeline, Minimalist text - battery
Icons - Ergon

I'm kind of having the inverse experience. Rather than my phone showing a very dark gray in place of black, it is instead showing black where there should be very dark grays including other colors as well. I see people referring to this as "black crush".

My non xl pixel 2 is aweful. Not so much in pictures but video it's more noticeable. Videos sometimes are unwatchable because the crushing looks terrible at night or in dark rooms. Sometimes I can see it pulsing in the background and whatnot with small movements in the video.

Can't see the picture but I might know what you talking about.
My F2 has also vertical "spots" in low light/dark conditions when there also dark content displayed on the screen.
I think it is normal for OLED Screens, although I must say it is quite visible on the Poco f2.

Thanks for your reply
Yes it appears in dark condition specialy on grey, dark grey color and a lot of apps using it in dark mode so it's normal no need to change the phone

Yes exactly. I must admit it is quite irritating seeing those at first; these "shadow lines" are especially more prominent when the DC dimming feature is activated.
I had those on every phone with OLED Screens (Galaxy S, S2, S3 etc. you name it) and also on the OnePlus 6.
I assume OLED Screens are not perfectly balanced out regarding their illumination strength or there are slight impurities/imperfections in the panel, since these are organic light emitting diodes. But I don't really know why these lines appear especially in low light conditions.
Other than that it does not bug me much (anymore) since in most use cases the lines/shadows are not visible.

Question P7P wallpaper colors limited on newer phone version?

I just received my replacement P7P. First one had lots of issues!
On the new phone, in Wallpaper & Style / Wallpaper Colors (not Basic Colors) there are a total of 3 screens of color selections. With the older version of my phone, there were at least 6 pages of colors.
Any ideas on how to get the rest of those color selection pages to show up. This may sound dumb, but there were some bright colors on the last page that I liked, but now it doesn't show up on this newer version of the phone.
Well, after playing around a bit I've figured out what's going on. This may seem like a commonly known thing to you guys, but this is my first Pixel so it's new to me.
I added a Wallpaper to my phone (an iPhone 14 Wallpaper) as I liked the vibrant colors. I had also added this same Wallpaper to my old P7P. Turns out, (I'm assuming here) the phone looks at the general colors of the Wallpaper, and adds those particular colors to your individual color pallettes, adding additional screens of selections. Those colors can then be used for your lock screen clock or the background color of your screens such as used in Gmail or telephone, contacts, etc ..
Whereas I had only 3 screens of color palettes with the phone stock, after installing this Wallpaper, the phone then has an additional 2 screens of new colors to choose from. The only issue now, and I think it's a glitch in the newest software update is that if I choose a color palette from this added Wallpaper, when I turn the phone off, upon restart the phone automatically goes back to the factory fresh color palette of mostly blues. The newly added colors are still available, but no longer selected. With the older, defective P7P I had, a restart did NOT reset my color palette. It left things as I had selected.

Above, your can see I now have 5 pages (5 dots) of color selections as opposed to the original 3. That bright green will, with the latest software update, only remain selected until I restart the phone. At that point it goes back to a blue color palette from page one. With my last P7P, a restart would not unselect my choice.

Question Screen problem.

hello I would like to report a software bug of the pixel.
when we put the color profile in adaptive and we before the brightness of the screen to full on a solid color (notification panel, settings) we can notice a line that is displayed along the entire length of the screen
this is indeed software bug because i currently have pixel 7 pro and i proceed this bug on both.

This is also happening to my pixel 7 pro.
It is more visible with brightness set to max and only occurs on grey backgrounds like notifications panel or chrome tab manager when dark mode is enabled.
The line is wider at 1080p and thinner at native resolution. Changing colour display from adaptative to natural also changes the line appearance (from grey to dark blue) but it is always present.
Sometimes it disappears on its own after a short time. Touching the screen may also cause it to disappear or reappear.
I´m not sure if this is a software or hardware issue.
Anyone else facing this problem?
while i have a pixel 6a .. this happened (since) last week here as well. not sure how these two devices are comparable in that regard.
for me the line can be "forced" to show up more visibly when "pressing" some specific area in the lower part of the display (just like a usual display-touch, but using more force), and can be made almost invisible when "pressing" (with force as well) the outer case pf the phone (from all sides). either way, it’s seems to be a hardware problem for me. google support agreed (!) and right now the local repair shop (acting on google’s behalf) ordered a new display for me and will install it next week. the guys at the shop already told me they’ve seen a few of these cases BUT always after the phone fell down on hard ground or something (which wasn’t the case for me).
I think it is more of a manufacturing flaw/design/anomaly??? Not so much a bug or something to really worry about because it only appears under certain extreme conditions such as MAX screen brightness with dark mode on certain colors. Meh...
