[Q] SD card will not read\format - General Questions and Answers

Hello all! Yesterday my wife's SD card crapped out on her, so naturally she handed it to me. I tried my phone and it says, "Blank media". When I plugged it into my computer it says, "Card not formatted, would you like to format?" I tried to format and it said, "No drive inserted" and "cannot format drive". I downloaded a couple programs: REMO, Test Disk and HP Disk Storage Recovery; they all failed to see it. I can see the drive on my computer, but it cannot read the drive. Is there a way to recover the data or is it toast?

I had that happen to me once when I accidentally cut my sdcard's drive from my PC instead of copying it.
The literal only way I was able to fix it was by inserting the sdcard into my device, booting ClockworkMod, going into the Advanced menu, and then wiping and repartitioning the card from there.
Hope this helps! :good:

I had the same problem like you

Samsung i7500 - internal memory error

Hello,
I've got a big problem with my Galaxy. Yesterday I resetted phone to factory settings (wipe) and after that I formatted internal SD card from i7500's menu. Everything seemed to be OK, so I connected my phone to Windows (I wanted to transfer music). Transfer seemed to be succesful, so I plugged off the phone.
Phone was checking something with memory very long, so I rebooted it.
After that I can't get access to internal and external sd cards, they are unavailable in the phone's menu. I can't play music - there's a warning: "An error was encountered on your SD card". I can't also use options "mount" or "unmount" in phone's menu. Total space and other options in the same manu are unavailable.
When I connect i7500 with my computer, Windows recognizes it, but I have to insert disk when I try to access internal and external SD card... There's no "select to copy files..." notification on phone screen... I don't know why.
I also tried to connect with "mass storage only" box checked with no results.
USB debugging mode wasn't succesful too, because Windows asks me for drivers (standard i7500 x64 drivers don't work, I'm running Vista).
My Android version is 1.6, previous owner changed software...
What can I do to solve my problem?
Sorry for my bad English.
Greetings from Poland,
Jacek

[Q] SD card not mounting, blank or unsupported file system.

When I putt he SD into my phone (currently running Paranoid KANG droid 2.32) I actually get nothing more than an occasional "SD has been removed" message. However, when I put the card into my old OG droid (running Cyanogenmod 7) i get the "unsupported file system" error. This has happened before, and I just had to wait it out before the SD recovered on its own. It is not doing this now. (yes I am an idiot for still using it despite my 32 gigs of internal storage). I have a feeling it is formatted as RAW due to a formatting issue, but I can't get anything else (pc or other devices) to recognize the card, other than my OG droid. So what I want to know, is if there is a way to force mount the card, or give a PC control over the sdcard path and force mount it some way through the PC (effectively turning my phone into an external card reader, because traditional methods don't work). I need a workaround for this, because there are dozens of pictures of my family, puppies, and friends on it that I don't want to lose.
You can buy a USB external card reader for very cheap, just plug it in and reformat it to FAT 32 via your PC.

Micro SD Card badly corrupted.. Way to repair?

Evening all,
trying to reformat and repair my sandisk sd card, its a 64gb nothing special, its basically corrupted no data deletes off it, nothing can be written on to it, and it cannot be formatted via the properties/ format disk on windows,
it just says windows is unable to complete the format,
Ive downloaded sandisk's formatting software and even that fails, it says to unlock the protection on the sd reader but this is unlocked, it goes into an adaptor and into an usb adaptor stick, ive tried two of each in case ones faulty to no avail,
ive tried cmd prompt, it states corruption was found while examining the volume bitmap
and "an error occured while recovering lost files"
dont know if theres any other way to recover the sd card?
thanks

Have you tried with chkdsk with prompted cmd?
yep /f and /r
same case with me. I will be able to get replacement. But what to do with all my personal data on the card. I am unable to delete it!! I think I should not go for replacement and write it off as total loss.

[Completed] Sd card damaged/ corrupted . Data lost from it is ok, i just it to start working prop

So i was downloading a movie "dr. Strange" from torrent yesterday and as soon as i clicked the download button.. my phone hanged and then crashed. I rebooted it, and storage ( sd card) was gone. I removed it and reinserted it. Still the phone was not considering it. I put this memory card in my other phone and it showed "damaged sd card, try reformatting" so i did, nothing helped. I connected my phone with my pc with memory card still in my phone, and my PC didn't showed any storage. So i tried it with card reader and then the PC showed my sd card as normal 2 gb availability from 14 gb total. I backed up all data in other drive. Now it kept showing that the storage is damaged , so i tried repairing it with windows error checking. It showed error with the file dr. Strange.mkv but couldn't repair it. I tried formatting the storage but it said "failed" .i did some research on Google and then tried chksdk /f with correct drive letter. It showed error with this file but couldn't repair it. I tried "disk part" as well. After which I selected the disk (sd card), cleaned it with "clean" and tried formatting. Still it showed 12 gb used fron 14 as always. I tried some third party data recovery softwares as well, nothing worked. Some of those softwares deletes the file at the time of booting and we have to select it first, but the thing is; they don't let us select the file from removable storage. What i am trying to say is, that i tried every possible way which should work from internet. Nothing worked. This is why i am posting this issue here, hoping someone might be able to help. Please it will be huuugggeee help for me. Thank you.
[My sd card is : Samsung evo 16gb class 10]
For chkdsk, what i got as error was
"The \path\filename.mkv entry contains a nonvalid link
The size of the path\file.mkv entry is not valid
45% completed.."
That's all i got, it never increased from 45%
And here i tried uploading a screenshot but it showed network error. I can give more details if you can help me out please

Greetings and welcome to assist. Unfortunately sometimes sd cards can just suddenly die, it has happened to me quite a few times and if it has died then all you can do is use a data recovery program

Android via MTP completely bugged my micro sd card

I was reorganizing files on my computer and sd card. For this i had to delete lots of stuff, etc. MTP was being slow so i decided to remove the micro sd card and use a card reader instead to speed things up.
Something screwed up real bad. Now the card is locked. When i plug in the card reader i can see and read the files, i can delete them, delete everything, but when i plug in the card back again - as if nothing happened.
The native format from windows explorer fails to start. It reports an error: The device, \Device\Harddisk5\DR20, has a bad block.
The diskpart utility fails as well with an error: Cannot zero sectors on disk \\?\PhysicalDrive3. Error code: [email protected]
SD Memory Card Formatter from sdcard org - this program succeeds in format without errors, but when i unplug in insert card - everything is the same
The Disk Wipe - Portable v1.7 program succeeds in format, but again - when reinsert the card - everything is back as it were.
When i reinsert the card in the phone, the phone will initiate a 'check for errors', take a lot of time, won't report any errors found and eventually the thing says card is mounted. But when i attempt to access it - the File Manager hangs and needs to close. If i try to unmount the card, the process take a lot of time so i just unplug it.
What can be done? Never had problems with this card, this thing occurred just now. It's unbelievable.
EDIT: Disk Wipe failed as well - said all NTFS boot sectors unwriteable.
Same here!

I have this exact same problem. 8Gb SD Card on Card reader, something went worng, now the files that are there, never change. I can't put new files, if I delete old ones they come back after un-plug and plug-in again.
I was able to make "something" happen, after a while, I reformatted it in exFAT and then again to FAT32. The Old drive name did change to the new one I've selected, and the files are gone, but now it's completely empty it says all the space 7,50 Gb is free, but I can't access it, nor can I clean the partition table using Diskpart, I get Access Denied (as admin and readonly=no) error and on Event Viewer I get error [email protected]
Anyone? Please? Save our Flash drives? Thanks.
I know this thread is old but it's the first result on Google when searching for the error code, so I'm posting my reply. Someone on Spiceworks linked to this tool. It formatted my broken SD card that had this exact issue, and now I can use the card again like normal.
