Hi,
I've just install Mahdi ROM 2.7 with Franco Kernel r63. Then I overclock CPU frequency with TrickesterMOD app and I change frequency to 3 Ghz, device reboots immediately , so change it to 2.88 again reboots but when I put frequency on 2.8 it works good without problem. I play with device , get benchmark and it works normally. But after a few hours I see a small dead pixel on my screen as you see in attachment!! Can this happen because of overclocking or that several reboots?! and is there any way to fix this dead pixels?
Shouldn't do.

I can't think of any way that overclock could cause dead pixels.

Thanks for reply, Yes its also strange to me that overclock cause dead pixel! I also didn't find any person that has dead pixel because of overclock! I tried several ways include pressure and using app to fix it with no luck, do you know any ways that can fix dead pixel?
dead pixels i cant fix, but if you want to overclock higher, then play with your voltages for those cpu speeds. adjust them slightly up or down, to get higher cpu speeds stable.
Dead pixels cant be restored, just stuck pixels. Im pretty sure it was there, you just noticed it now. I noticed mine a month after i had bought it.

If the CPU gets hot enough you could theoretically cause heat damage to the LCD which could appear like in his image. What he has isn't a "proper" dead pixel (ie, control-board based) since the damage runs over into the nearby pixels and isn't entirely covering one pixel. It looks more like what you see from physical or heat damage to a display.

True but throttling shouldn't let it get anywhere near the temperatures required for heat damage.

So If I do this until I find stable voltage device will reboot again and again, can these reboots harm device?

While I'm using device the upper part of device and LCD is hot and it means CPU locates in upper part of device, but this dead pixel is near nav bar buttons! As I compare this small black dot of dead pixel its smaller than last night! does it mean that device is fixing itself?!!

na, wont hurt your device. i cant tell you how many times ive done it to my device, hundred? and im one of the few that can run 3014mhz stable. the worst that will happen is a reboot. about the heat, your device doesnt get hot enough with no use when ocing to do any kind of damage. when you do use your cpu heavily, first itll slow down the cpu speed when reaching a certain temp, then if your device still keeps getting warmer, itll hit the safety shutdown temp of 105C and just turn itself off.
I didn't bought the phone for google play, i bought it from a reseller in my country. So i must live with that dead pixel

Thanks for reply I'm worry about giving higher voltage to CPU!! Because now its on 1150 for 2880mhz, I change it to 1225 but still reboots! Now I'm worry about using higher voltage! Where I can find how much higher voltage this CPU can handle?!

every phone is different and needs different voltages. your phones bin number will help. as higher binned numbers need less voltage. try going down slightly in voltage as well, not just up. anyways, your voltages should be all under 1200mV, for me 3014mhz is stable at 1150mV. and my phone is a 3(bin).
---------- Post added at 02:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------
when adjusting voltage, adjust by 5 or 10mV at a time, up and down.

i know bin 0 and 1 phones that run at 3014mhz for a certain period of time. binning only has to do with your voltages and thats all. they dont say anything about how the device performs.

So I started playing this game Order and Chaos Online (kinda MMO similar to WoW) and the temps get very high, up to 41C on WiFi and 43C on 3g. The phone is burning to a point that it hurts my hand. I'm playing aprox 2-3 hours per day, sometimes maybe 4 hours, how dagerous is that to the phone? Can it do any significat damage over time?
I am using the jame bond kernel at 1ghz, which is also a bit undervolted, don't know the values tho, governer is set to ondemand. I tried to underclock it to 800mhz but the game lags sometimes and is a no-go.
ukhm, khm....
Well if the phone is heating up and it sounds pretty bad, I'm pretty sure its dangerous. Maybe not, but IMO it is. My Sprint HTC Hero has over heated a few times and after that it had small little dots on the screen. Hopefully your phone don't fry.

Mines usually sits between 34°C - 36°C, its seems like a normal temp IMO. I've never had my phone hit 41°C before and I sometimes i tether my phone via usb and it still dosent hit that high. If your is hitting that high, it could also be the temp around your home or something. But I wouldn't use your phone to play MMO, especially if your playing 2-4hrs everyday. Just saying..

Well I'm at stock right now because I'm waiting for the ota tomorrow. But I was using koushdecks 1.2.1 with matr1x kernel 4.0 bfs version. Clocked it up to 1.3ghz - 100hz, switched between smatass to ondemand everyone ounce in awhile and I still was at 36°C. I use setcpu's widget to always check my temp and it never goes higher then 36°C. Fact.

Can anyone else pls tell their usual temps, this got me a bit worried. On browsing the net I achieve 38C, on some intensive games I can get over 40C. When idle it usually stays at 30C, sometimes in the morning I find it with 28C. Is this normal?

Kind of a noob here but I got my HTC Sensation XE back from repair not more than a week they did a software update and I'm on the stock ICS ROM with HTC Sense 3.6 I think 3.33, anyway, using it for 10-15 minutes by just browsing through the homescreen or settings makes my phone warm up like crazy, to around 52 degrees celsius it's not yet uncomfortable whilst holding but very annoying. When I play for example Lazors for 10 minutes it heats up to 65 degrees celcius. Is there a ICS build I can use to lower the temperature, or should I undervolt and underclock my phone, and how do I go about doing that, or very drastically, send it back to HTC since it's still under warranty? Also tried CM10.1 build by Albinoman1987 and the phone heats up just as fast as on the stock ROM so I think it's a hardware fault. Any help on solving this would be appreciated. Just for clarification, the part where the SIM and SD card are located gets this hot NOT the battery.

When I sent my phone out for repairs it was for a screen and digitizer replacement. I already expirienced heat problems before repairs but from what I can gauge now, it's gotten worse after repairs, I can't exactly remember how hot it became since I didn't had it for 3-4 weeks.

Well, it sounds like a hardware problem, but I can't really tell you which part is the problem. I'm thinking that the CPU is overheating, and that my suggestion is to try different kernels, and to compare which keeps the CPU the coolest.
You can also install CPU tuner to view the temperature of the CPU and battery.

Yeah I had them both run at the same frequency by enabling Force All CPU's online -> On boot completed. However this will last for a few seconds and then the 2nd core goes offline again.

Since you're using the exact same thing could you do me a favor? Install System Tuner pro on your device and use it by randomly browsing through settings and homescreen, don't launch apps, just use the phones basic functions, do that for 20 minutes, and post your temperature, my CPU gets to 53 degrees Celcius doing that, also my CPU1 is offline and CPU0 runs at 1GHz instead of 1.5, if you do have both CPU's online, it's already a hardware issue. And play angry birds for 10-15 minutes or Lazors, doing that brings it to 63 degrees celcius, if you have lower temperatures, I will send it to HTC immidiately.

Do your soft buttons get warm especially the first 2? Cause mine does, but no matter, after the weekend it's being picked up by HTC for repairs. It's quite a shame, I got it for almost 2 weeks now after repairs and I can't do anything with it for too long. Although the weird thing is, when System Tuner Pro says 53 or 63 degree celcius it doesn't feel any warmer.

I have this issue—the screen stays black when I wake up the phone—, so I have to do “adb reboot” manually. I global undervolted 50mV and my phone is on franco. Do you think undervolting may have caused this problem? I do not have enough data in order to judge if undervolting is the main cause. Thanks in advance.

no, its not undervolting. it sounds like sod, sleep of death. it could be kernel or rom related, among other things. anyways, next time so you dont have to connect to adb, press your power button in for 15-30 seconds, itll reboot.

Undervolting is the most likely culprit for your SoDs. No reason to do it anyhow. Although, franco kernel has had that issue with some releases, but are usually fixed very quickly.
Undervolting will add minutes only to SoT and next to nothing for overall time. It's not worth the trouble it can cause.
Just my opinion....and experience.
guys, while undervolting can affect turning on the screen with a slight delay, most likely its not in this case. and undervolting does not cause sod.

Given that we're using sod as a generic term, I respectfully disagree. It definitely can cause trouble coming from the sleep frequency to the minimum frequency if the voltage is too low, it cannot make the transition. He definitely should roll it back and rule it out before doing anything else. This goes for any instability issue.

of course it can cause trouble coming from sleep frequencies, but it wont cause sod. yes, undervolting can and will cause stability issues, but it wont cause the screen not to come on. it would cause a delay in the screen coming on, but the screen would turn on still.
if it cannot get to 300MHz from sleep, the screen won't come on.

I'm all for anyone doing anything to their device.... That's what android is all about.
But undervolting and under clocking is just something I personally never got. I suppose aside from trying to curb heat issues. But not to prolong battery life. It just makes such a minor difference. I've never seen proof showing otherwise.
But, to each their own.

True that.
I look it it this way. Less heat equals less stress. Less stress equals longer life. Use any analogy you want but the theory is there. If I ever run into an issue with my device the very first thing I do is revert my UV settings. If it persists, at least I've ruled out UV.
I believe the idea of UVing devices comes from an era not that long ago. IE, inefficient processors. Modern(the last two years) processors don't seem to have that much inefficiency. Could be snake oil on my side. It's habit though.

By letting the phone cool down before the benchmark, or use a custom kernel which raises or disables it.
The other thing is to not care about benchmarks...

Why do you care about benchmarks in the first place......
Putting your phone in the fridge, then getting an AMAZING score...does it make your day? Does showing it off make you happy? It's not what the phone is primarily designed for....it has much more useful functions, you know like internet, email, calling, gaming, photos...
More importantly...imagine benchmarks didn't exist for a moment. Did your phone actually feel slow before you did all these 'tests'??? Did you need to get 30k before you felt happy? Does a 'lower score' completely ruin the actual day to day user experience...

Firstly i don't need to tell you why i'm trying to get higher score but i will because you're talking too agresively with me without reason.I don't care about score. If every nexus 5 would be the same and get just 15k score including mine i would accept my phone with 15k. But others phones get higher and there is something wrong with mine. It's getting hot more than others. So that's not like it should be.I hope you understood why i'm trying to fix it and sorry if my english isn't understandable.
No. Your phone isn't heating up more. You're starting when the device is already warm.

I'm pretty sure i'm starting it when it's cold. I didn't touch it for 15 minutes isn't it enough ?

Hmm you're right. Do you know a good one ? I got 28.8k now with elemental x kernel with "Undervolt" feature. To be honest i don't know how much is normal for a nexus 5 device with this kernel.

No, just because other people get highers 'scores' does not mean there is something wrong with your phone.
Before you started running 'tests', were you experiencing any actual issues?

If it's getting hot, is this because you're running unnecessary benchmarks...
Or any other activities which are causing it to get hot? This could be an app or hardware issue, both nothing to do with your benchmark. Are you comparing actual temperatures in degrees to identical phones doing exactly the same activities side by side, or does it just feel a bit warmer?
What I'm trying to say is your obsession with the score is causing you unnecessary stress...you are trying to fix something which does not need fixing.
So go back to the original thinking:
- Imagine scores don't exist
- Did the phone actually feel slow in day to day normal usage before you started running benchmarks?
Or:
- Stop running tests, forget about them
- Use the phone normally
- Enjoy using the phone again
Let...it...go...

The first time run it i just wanted to see how my phone is powerful because i felt a little lag on asphalt 8 yesterday, so yes i wasn't expecting any issues but when i saw i got 17k i think that difference is just huge. I don't care if my device is same at gaming, multitasking with other nexus devices but benchmark makes me think it's not right.
In normal usage; yeah it is fast But I'm not sure my device is how it's supposed to be like this. But if you say it's normal and benchmark's not meaning anything i won't care. But there should be a reason all devices got different scores.

So it is sort of only the benchmark which is making you think something is not right
You don't need a score to see how powerful your phone is. It will breeze through most tasks just fine. "A little lag" on a graphically intense game is to be expected sometimes.
Gaming -> High CPU load -> heat -> thermal throttle -> bit of lag
Laws of physics
In normal usage; yeah it is fast

This is the only real 'benchmark' which is actually important in normal day to day usage.

Yes there is a reason we all get different scores, the same reason we all get different battery life. There are many variables, not least temperature and thermal throttling.
We have different number of apps installed and running at any one time, things syncing, mods, scripts, ROMs, kernels, all different. No two CPUs and Nexus 5s are exactly identical either. So therefore you get different 'scores'. Even if you had two stock factory reset phones side by side running the same test, they'll get different scores.
And just because your score is lower, it doesnt necessarily mean that something is wrong, or that your phone is always slow. It is just a nominal number from an app at a particular point in time. It still feels fast, and is fast...

Okey, i trust you. Since i just bought phone and didn't test it much really i won't test it or try to improve it for now.
The way a phone works doesn't lend itself well to benchmarks. That's why manufacturers like Samsung have traditionally "cheated" on benchmarks by ensuring maximum clock speeds are used when they detect a bench marking application.
If you want to maximize your benchmark scores you simply need to disable thermal throttling (or increase its limit) and also use optimized Dalvik copied from another device.

This. Thermal throttle is a way to keep your phone regulated into normal temperatures specified by the device manufacturer. However, it's generally safe to raise it a bit, mine is set to 85.
aw man, its too bad i wasnt around earlier
After 7 days of with the phone in my pocket, I think battery needs some serious optimization. Compared to my previous device Redmi note 6 pro on 4000mah had a lot better battery than Mi note 10 at 5260mah. Battery is draining like too fast. I'm on xiaomi eu btw.
I sincerely hope Xiaomi fixes this battery issue with a firmware update. A 5000+mah battery with a mid tier chipset should give phenomenal life.
I think we should get together and make some noise to get Xiaomi to address this. Tech reviewers are blaming the UI
I must agree on this. The battery life leaves a lot to be desired. Thought it would be amazing, but it's only marginally better than my old Nokia 7 Plus.. And the battery in that one is 3800mah.
Please optimize the software Xiaomi!
Yeah after rooting i did some digging. There is some kernel optimisation needed.
Example: Min freq is not set to 300mhz but to 5xx mhz. Also there is some kind of cpu boost enbled (i wasnt yet able to disable it) which is way too agressive, this also causes the min freq to get stuck at 13xx mhz. This cna only be solved by rebooting

Do you suggest taking parameters for this? Or just wait for a Major update?
Actually I am impressed by how long the battery lasts on my Mi note 10
Using it basically no stop, with screen on 90% if the timer and using GPS, chats and emails and more, in the evening I still have not less than 40%

Interesting discovery. While snooping around I found these posts talking about the Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6 that also idle at 576mhz. Both use the Snapdragon 845 though

Not sure if i 100% understand what you mean. But i tried to change parameters with FK and the values do not really get saved.

Yeah exactly. But thats not that big problem, if you watch your CPU Stats you can see your idle freq get stuck at 13xx for both clusters. Thats quite high for idling. Also did look into the released kernel source, but couldnt find the problem
Not the biggest fan of things like LKT, but in this case it works. Sets the cpu to 300mhz and gets rid of the 12xxmhz boost! if any one want to try it aswell
Your phones guys have really some problems. Mine is rooted and twrp. Updated. The rest is all stock. Yesterday I used it like crazy. Google map for about 2.5 hours, screen during the day basically always on cause I use whatsapp for work. I also spent 1 hour playing a game. In the evening I had 41% battery.
This phone have a monster battery! Amazing!

I would like to feel the same optimism that you feel, but until now, I cannot. I got my phone 2 days ago, 2 full charges, one gave me 8h of SOT and the other 7h of SOT. There is something wrong here. I had more battery life with the Pocophone I had than with Mi note 10. Let's see if in a future update it gets better

I mean yes it has good battery life and i can get easily 2 days. But its a 5xxx mah battery. It can last longer. Its like upgraing from 1liter to 2liters but only using 1.5 Liters.
Its Never a 5xxx Battery

Thinking about it, 4000mah sounds right. The Oppo Reno2 has a 4000mah battery, uses the same 730G chipset and has about the same screen size.
The GSMarena endurance test gave the Oppo Reno2 a 102hr endurance rating.
The Mi Note 10 scored 95hrs endurance rating.
I think we've been duped here
See here, scroll to the bottom;

I've installed AccuBattery to monitor drain and give a mAh rating estimate

Forgot to mention there is a crazy battery drain at night for no reason like 10% down (Flight mode on, only alarm set on) .

yes. any xiaomi device It has that. The only option is the force setting set min. 300mhz on APK like ex Kernel menager. And turning off boost Touch
Check mi room or miuimix rom based on China dev. I use mi Rom on cc9 and k20 pro. The battery is much better than xiaomi.eu
