when u use the method of flashing .tar file using odin its like unrooting your phone ; flashing the whole firmware in your phone again . in reboot mode or i guess the recovery mode ur talking about where u need to press buttons in ur device to be able to do that. it does the same thing but it just a lot easier than using odin.
but i guess your not rooted so just use the recovery mode or even in your settings option ; there is also factory reset option . but when your rooted, u need to go in odin method ..

Bro,
Power+home key +volume up= recovery mode
In this mode you can factory reset /wipe data/wipe cached partition/install zip etc.
Poeer+home key+volume down= download mode
In this mode can flash any custom rom/recovery etc. Means you can flash .tar file with your computer . But you need odin etc installed on your pc.
Hope this helps... This has nothing to do with rooted or unrooted device.

Since your phone is rooted , even you will flash/install rom or "custom" rom it wont unroot your phone because flashing "custom" rom from the name itself, it is customized by our respected developers to make our device more personalize and so we can do some things in our device that we cant do in our non-rooted phones. you need proper files to remove root in your device its called unrooting or unbricking. Maybe some feauters dont work because of your custom rom or any system app you accidentally deleted. to correct it , you can do factory reset but since it didnt work you can try to restore your backup if you ever made one. But i suggest to unroot your device or return it to its stock to be sure so you can really start all over again...
you can easily search how to unroot your phone.

[Q] [HELP] cyanogen 10 reroot gone wrong on galaxy s blaze

I just installed the cyanogen 10 mod to my blaze and tried it. i went to this file manager that told me to reroot my phone so that I may be able to use it better. I went to odin to reroot it again but i accidentally used the original blaze.pit file on it and when it rebooted it showed me the original samsung starter instead of the cyanogen mod starter. That wasn't the problem, the problem was it never went in to the phones home screen or apps. Instead it continues to show the samsung logo and the flying android over and over again. I tried using the SGH-T769-hitsquad tar file to fix it (i need to mention that i bricked it once before and used this tar file to fix it) but it keeps taking me to the samsung logo. I can't even try to factory restore it because it just starts acting strange when I go to the menu. I can still go into download mode, i've gone searching for a file or anything to help me fix it but i can't find anything. Please, any suggestions?!
Here's a link to stock Tmo Blaze tar's from GB to ICS. ICS is the UVLH5 file. I suggest download that one.. then flash that file through odin.. dont include a Blaze pit file. just PDA file which is the one you'll download.
EDIT:
They're the ones ontop of the page that says Firmwares for SGH-T769 - USA (T-Mobile)
Let me know if it works for you.

Just use that superuser.zip file, unless you want SuperSU, which I think it's better,

[Q] help upgrading firmware

Is there any way to upgrade my galaxy s II plus gt-I9105 (non NFC version)
Without any risks of breaking it??
It seems that the 4.2.2 update didn't roll out on my country..
and i dont want to root my phone coz im scared to make a mistake and end up with a brick phone..
any help?? sorry for my bad english..
It won't. Btw flashing different firmware doesn't mean rooting anyway.
Give it a go. It won't brick so easily. Odin isn't that bad

Yes it'd brick it if you mess up.
But according to what I experience. I don't think you'd brick it if you keep your phone plugged without doing anything to it. Dude, chill. It won't do any damage

google odin like bro brian said. afterward it's all straight forward process, and yes,you don't need to be rooted.
off ur phone>press power+home+vol down, then when download mode comes, press vol up to confirm.
then open your odin, makes sure repartition untick(default shoud be unticked),select your firmware via PDA,connect your phone(make sure u installed samsung driver to be detected),see the blue light, then can click start and wait till it's green light and reboot itself.
don't take all my word for it,search some info in general section before you flash it,if you done everything properly,it shouldn't be any problem.

dude no offence but...just believe in us
3.04 is working flawlessly
a firmware for a specific country means the default language is set that way, and English is definitely included.
if you follow the outside link, i'm not saying there'd definitely be errors, but it's better to follow instructions given by us
download odin 3.04
download the firmware
put your phone into download mode
kill all KIES process (your computer)
Run odin as admin
connect phone to PC
choose your firmware on the tab: PDA
click start
wait until it reboots
DONE
be brave and simply click start. don't even touch your computer while the process is still going (just in case)
thanks!!

Connect your phone when it's still turned on. Drivers should install now automatically. Which you don't have to click anything and it'd install something. Then when it says it's fully done. Boot to download mode.
Connect it but don't open Odin first. It will install some drivers again. Also automatically. When it's done. Right click on the Odin icon. Choose run as admin (window 7 or up).
If it says connected.
Choose your firmware and click start.
Before you click anything relating to starting the process in Odin. Even if you were in the download mode. If you weren't flashing anything yet, it's gonna be okay
Hope I helped.

[Q] i9505 restore bloatware for OTA lollipop 5.0

Hi, this is my first actual post. I have searched and can't see this query anywhere else.
Ok I'll try to make this as clear as possible, I have read Lollipop 5.0 has been released in the UK for the i9505 and I want to update OTA (which would be when xPosed framework is compatible) but I have a couple problems. I am rooted and I find out now that you can't do OTA if you have previously deleted the bloatware that came with the phone which I have done. Process I have come up with:
1) Use Titanium Backup to backup ALL apps to SD
2) Restore the bloatware by flashing stock Android 4.2.2 firmware to go back to original (can't remember my deleted apps and factory reset won't restore them)
3) Carry out OTA (using CF-autoroot or SU survival mode to keep root)
4) Restore Titanium backups from SD
My questions:
1) Is that process correct?
2) Would flashing the stock rom get rid of my Custom Recovery? Or anything on my external SD?
3) Do I need to unlock bootloader? How do I know if mine is already unlocked or not?
4) Possibly any way to keep my apps layout on homepage?
Extra info: I don't want to get CM, since I had CM11 and didn't like it, prefer the stock touchwiz and custom ROMs have too many bugs.
Would really appreciate any direction on this issue.
Phone info:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S4
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUBMGA
Anyone? :good:
Here is the way
1. Backup using helium app
2. Unroot using SuperSU app (in the setting there is a option)
3. Download stock ROM from sammoble (choose the proper one)
4. Flash it using odin (u need to have stock recovery & bootloader status dosenr matter until u r stock)
5. Before flashing do a hard reset.just to be safe
6. Restore ur app d data using helium(this time u will need a pc)
7. Check for update from settings.
8. & to save ur launcher (touchwiz) there is option in helium
The reason why I don't suggest to keep root cuz at the moment lollipop will run into issues if rooted..later on after u r done with updating u can try rooting.make sure to backup SD just in case something goes wrong
WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG CUZ ITS U WHO IS DOING NOT ME....well it won't go wrong is u do properly..

Thanks for the reply. Checked out helium app on google play and around the internet, many people are having issues with restoring backups, I'll give it a try while I have a nandroid backup just to see how it works.
Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the brackets for number 4, can you please elaborate?
Lollipop needs to fix itself! Root is most important for me, I'll update when Xposed is compatible on Lollipop hopefully the root issue will be fixed by then.
It dosent matter what is ur boot loader status, locked or unlocked...if u r flashing a official ROM boot loader status dosent matter.d for flashing a stock rom u need a stock recovery....d for helium if restoring dosent work I move the files manually

Oh ok gotcha! Hmm since I'll wait until root works I think I might just Titanium Backup since I have the Pro version, might as well use it You say I need a stock recovery, would that appear automatically when flashing the stock rom and get rid of my CWM recovery or is there a certain process to be done in order to get that recovery? (I think it's the former option but just checking Thanksss

I can download the latest official firmware at sammobile.com, look for firmwares, and search your device specific rom/carrier.
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:
Just checked in YouTube the difference between the Google edition and original and the original is much better in my opinion. The main thing is I don't want to lose all the camera features it comes with. And I can't seem to find stock lollipop for the original S4 on Sammobile, have to navigate with my phone since laptop is bust. I'll give it a quick look again.

[Completed] [Q] Galaxy Note 3 Root - Odin stuck at cache.img, can't boot

Hi all,
So I've decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. Problem is, Odin gets stuck at cache.img, then fails after a couple of minutes. Phone then displays BSOD whenever I try to boot. I can access download mode again, but not recovery. My phone is stock 4.2.2.
It's the first time I have such a problem, I flashed a couple of phones before without any trouble. I searched XDA for a solution and tried other Odin versions, different cable/ports, even tried on another computer, still doesn't work.
My first concern is not to lose any data as I didn't back anything up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask about any missing info.
Thanks!
I see. It didn't say on the XDA thread it was only for Lollipop, but I checked in CF's website and you're right. I've wanted to update to LL ages ago but I didn't get it through OTA. The only LL release that's available for SM-N900 in SamMobile is Russian :/ I don't know if I should flash that one...
Would it be safe to flash back my stock 4.2.2 to at least get my phone back working? Or would the Russian release work for me (assuming it has language choice)?
Also, once I choose which ROM to use, would I loose my data when I flash it? I assume it is flashed the same way than root.
Thanks!
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. I assume you've seen this,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423. In regards to flashing a Rom you should always clear data, dalvic cache and cache before flashing. That will erase data so backup first. You should look into titanium backup on the play store.

Yes, that is the thread I've used to flash the root. Now I have a BSOD phone and need to fix it without losing data :/ I didn't back up so I guess flashing ROM is out of the question. Any suggestions ?

You're not going to like it, but you need to flash the stock firmware in Odin and lose your data. It's the only way to get your device working again.

I'm surprised. Can you at least explain why the root didn't work? I did everything as stated in the tutorial. I didn't expect a simple root operation would result in me losing everything on my phone; some data I cannot afford to lose.
Also, the phone says that using Kies in recovery mode is what should be done. Kies doesn't recognize the phone as needing repair. Any info?
Thanks !

Sorry, but live and learn. Always backup before doing any thing new on your phone. Especially rooting and flashing roms as they sometimes go wrong and rooting bypasses some of the safe guards the manufacture builds into the phone to avoid problems. Kies is crap. Learn to use Odin, if your rooting and roming you'll need it sooner or later. And you're at the sooner stage.
Edit, I'd really try asking your question here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/help. I'm not sure on your device if you can go back to nb1, 4.4.4, firmware. I'm assuming there is no 5.x firmware for your device at this time. You can check at sammobile.com. But Samsung has updated the bootloader with each update and you have to flash the firmware with the same bootloader version. You can't go backwards.

I will, thank you. I can't afford losing anything as of now. Really hope there's a way of getting it to boot back up.

SOLVED. I can't believe how easy it was. I was about to flash it over from scratch but then it struck me.
Chainfire ships Odin with all its root bundles, a version where you cannot untick "Auto Reboot". Because of Auto Reboot being ticked, Odin freezes at "cache.img". It might not freeze for some people but for me, having Auto Reboot activated causes the freeze
Downloading a different version of Odin (any version, I used 3.09) that allows changing parameters and LEAVING EVERYTHING UNTICKED BUT F. RESET TIME works like a charm.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after Odin displays PASS or RESET (Long press power).
I'm going to PM Chainfire about this, and tell a max of people about it.
Thank you for your support
EDIT: Also going to NANDroid my phone. I'm tired of panicking over failed roots

When a newb fails, bricked s6(SOLVED)

So, i was trying to flash a ROM after i got my recovery and root going on, i wiped EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE recovery file i made and the installation file i got in the phone when i went to wipe the system files and attempt to install the ROM. So, i tried to put the ROM files into my phone via the ADB method. It worked but my ROM didn't and now my S6 is in a boot loop. i have tired Odin, smartwatch and kies. On kies and smart watch, they both said the attempt to install stock ROM failed and attempt a emergency recovery. HOWEVER, both software did not recognize my device in the emergency recovery devices list, nor did it recognize it as a compatible device in the 1st place, i tired to reinstall the drivers and the software themselves but nothing worked. For Odin, it keeps on saying fail to flash as well, it usually stuck on the 'nano write' process or 'setting up connection' process for a long time too! I did download the official Samsung firmware and extracted it, put it into the blank next to the 'AP' button in odin and i got 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked off. On the phone, i can boot in to download mode and download mode only, now it shows me a triangle and it says that stock firmware flash failed and use emergency recovery. i actually download a custom recovery and for some reason it wont boot into that.
Model number: SM-G920W8
carrier: fido
If any of you pros got any ideas please share with me, i've been trying to fix this problem for about a day and a night.
try "nand erase all" in odin while flashing the stock fido rom

about roms, i still got 5.1.1 so if i want to install a rom, does it matter? or is it just about finding the 1 for your model. i want to install XtreStoLite but some versions have android 6.0 in the title and some have 5.1.1, and why don't posts about roms have any comments?
