Ok, so I am a sammy fan and have had samsung products since the Omnia.
Currently on an S5 (from an S, S2, S4 ...) and want a smart watch.
Drooled over what you guys were doing with the original gear but never got one.
Now I have an opportunity to get the Gear 2. I've looked at Moto 360 and LG R but they dont "do much".
So I am gonna buy a Gear 2 today but would love it if you guys could answer a couple of questions which I havent found the answer to on the interweb.
- I know the Gear 2 is Tizen but can it still run Android apps?
- Are there many apps (decent ones) for it?
- How customizable is it compared to the original gear?
- Are there custom ROM's for it?
Basically what I'd like to know is, if I buy this watch (6 months after release) will I still be customizing it in a year?
Thank you in advance.

So, wife loves her Gear 2 and she asked if I wanted one. I told her "no, because I'd want to get a Samsung device then". So, I was thinking why not get the Gear 2 anyways? I have a Nexus 5, so I know I wouldn't be able to use a few features like S-Voice or get apps. But, since I don't think I need a camera on my watch, would I regret getting the Neo?
I got a new Gear 2 Watch for Christmas. No matter what I try I can not get the gear manager on my phone, (which makes the gear 2 worthless)
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Straight talk Verizon towers ) with 4.1.2 which I "think" is the problem. Some place in all my internet searching I saw that I need 4.3 for the Gear 2.
Is there a solution to this that a non geek user can apply? Or should I just return the watch ?

Try downloading the Galaxy Essential Apps from this link and installing the Gear Manager app. Don't know if will work in your S3 but since I don't see any response to your post so I decided to give it a shot. Let me know what's the outcome. If it does not work then you will have to upgrade to the S4 at least. There is also a Gear Manager for non-samsung phones that could work with your phone as well.

You need to upgrade your ROM to kitkat.
Can't be done
I took the watch and phone to the geek squad . The Samsung lady was there. She said this is an easy fix, downloaded a couple files, diddled with the phone for awhile, :fingers-crossed: kept getting my hopes up.
then informed me since it's a straight talk phone, they have limited the up grades on it and the phone, it is as updated as it can be updated. It has Jellybean 4.1.2 and will never/ can never go any higher then that. :cyclops:
my much desired smart watch will never, can never be used together, :crying: and since I've only had the phone 9 months I have no intention of retiring it any time soon......:crying: so the watch was returned, the samsung lady said no watch is pair-able with it
Thanks for your help though
Have the original Huawei watch.... Screens a bit burned in and looking for a replacement. Liked the HWatch, was ehhh with AW 2.0 so I'm fine with moving OS's. Looking around I don't see many options I really like outside of the S3 classic, however I have been reading nothing but horror stories about Tizen 3 update. Is it really that bad? If I'm going to be forced to run a nearly 18 month old watch on original firmware I might as well stick with what I got.
Any input to assist me here?

Have Gear S3 Classic LTE version Verizon, with 3.0 and no issues

I have the Gear S3 frontier on 3.0 and no issues. I get 2 - 3 days on a charge depending on the watch face.

I also came from the Huawei Watch v1 and just got the Gear S3 Classic yesterday. The reason I switched was because I also do not like Android Wear 2.0. Overall, I do like the Gear S3 but I also miss the app selection and support of Android Wear. If all you're going to use the watch is for notifications with simple replies, then the Gear S3 will work for you. However, if you're planning on using the watch as somewhat of a phone replacement, then the Gear S3 is severely lacking in that category. The reason why I state this is due to the lack of app developers that support Tizen.
Forget about native Google Maps support on your watch, texting is really only done via replies, Fidme for loyalty cards, i.g. Starbucks, is hit or miss, etc. Overall though, as I stated above, if your main goal is just to have notifications on your wrist, have Samsung Pay, and don't mind using S Health for fitness, then the Gear S3 is an awesome device. If you need anything more, you're better off going with Android Wear for the full application and developer support on the platform.
Hello everyone,
I have an iPhone X and I am planning to buy a Gear S2 Sport or Classic. So I know there is limitation on some features (don't know if it has gotten better in the past one year) but I wan't to know will it connect and will it have issues with the features which work. Thats all! Thank you all in advance!
I just bought Galaxy Z Flip 3 and despite all my efforts I can't pair my Gear 2 ;(( The mobile can see it but just won't connect. Anyone got a cracked version of Samsung wereable or any workaround this problem? I really don't want to change to new smartwatch because Gear 2 is much superior with its videocamera all other smartwatches are basically the same crap in different cover..
So nobody willing to help,?
