Ok, so I've finally succeeded in rooting my samsung gs3 1535, but how do you know if it unlocked the bootloader or not.? does it do it automatically, or do I have to do something else? I want to install CM10 and replace Verizon with Metro PCS, but can't seem to get the zip file on my sd card. What do I do first after rooting and backup? Please help! My LG Spirit was stolen and this is all I have to woprk with now but my service is with Metro PCS, not Verizon. But hey, who can complain when a friend gives you their old phone? Any and all help would be great! Thank you in advance!!!

when you turn on the phone the samsung screen will last only for like 1 second as opposed to 3-5 seconds with a locked bootloader. also you can download an app from the market called EZ-unlock. if you are unsure unlock it again. then it will read "unlocked" under the device status.
ez-unlock

I've looked and looked for the EZ-unlock in Google Play but thus far have yet to find it. I've tried everyway you can to spell it to try and find it but to no avail. Where else would I need to look, and if I find it how do I use it on the phone, being that it's already been rooted?

use the 1.2 version it is still the best
use. press unlock to unlock the bootloader. and lock to relock it. it is that simple.
ps. make sure you have a custom recovery to install CM10.1.
also it is imperative you create a backup ASAP. also you may want to backup your IMEI if you are going 4.2.2
Just got dropbox, how do you backup the IMEI dropbox? I have CM10 on my sd and ready. What, I just unlock the bootloader to flash, then lock it back when done? Thank you so so much.

Ok, first of all thank you so much! This is the most help I've ever had on here. Been using Unleashed Prepaids, but like it much better here. I'm still new at this, so please bear with me. What are gapps, my other phone LG MS770, says google gapps stopped working all the time, and do I need to use odin for any of this or just install and flash from sd? Sorry so many questions, just want to be very thorough as to not brick my phone. Thank you again!! One more thing, do I do all this with or without sim card in phone?
I will be getting a Sony Xperia E from Immix (with a SIM Card), and I am wondering if I am in the correct section of the forums. I have a few questions, since I had an HTC One V before, about the current status of this phone:
Has this phone been S-Off'd yet?
If not, is TWRP at least released for this phone?
I think that's it. I'll update with more questions as I get them
Thanks in advance,

S-OFF (unlock bootloader) in Sony terms is can be done by visit http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the instructions. make sure you test by enter *#*#7378423#*#* on dialer and then, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
dunno if someone already build TWRP for Xperia E, but there is CWM for Xperia E

Sorry, in [HTC One V] terms, S-Off not only requires the bootloader to already be unlocked, but then you can also edit the boot, radio and other partitions that are still locked while the bootloader is unlocked.
And that phone number is very helpful, thanks! I'll have to test it Wednesday, when my phone is supposed to arrive
And about building TWRP, I'll do it. I've built several pieces of software for my previous phone, aaaaand I hope it's the same process LOL

You've had a One V? Cool, there's one in the family, still stock, of course.
I think the radio and stuff can be changed even when the bootloader is locked , using Flashtool to flash the firmwares in flash mode. [citation needed] At least the baseband can be changed easily, probably other stuff too.
TWRP has been built for CM10 (actually it's a dual recovery; both CWM and TWRP) by hsr0. Others have been built too, but since our phones have no recovery image, the recovery has to be built into the kernel, and this is the most stable CM10 kernel, I recommend this one. Not sure if there's a stock TWRP, though.

LOL, no. I've just started my first project, and hardly anybody here knows what it is.
Before unlocking your phone's bootloader, be sure to root it (many guides to root it with a locked bootloader here) and backup the TA partition: this partition has some DRM keys that are removed once you unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure what they do, but you can check whether the DRM keys are there or not, so if you take it to Sony, you can reflash TA, unroot, and they'll honour the warranty.

And also make sure, you've got a few ftf files.
In case you want to know in HTC terms: FTFs are like RUUs, but safer to flash - so much that we've been using Xperia E dual's FTF files on the Xperia E single.

Another tip: don't, ever let the battery level on your phone go down below 15%. Because when the battery goes down to 0%, it's pretty difficult to wake it up - I just had to wake up mine.

Hi everybody!
I'm rather new here and I need help.
I think I soft bricked my device. After getting my unlock code from Sony, I unlocked it via adb. So far so good. After that I installed CWM and a zip. After that I couldn't boot my phone. I've tried everything. Used Flashtool to flash a firmware for my model to make it work again. Unfortunately, after the flashing was done, I ha got another issue. The Sony logo just pops up, goes out, pops up and so on... No I can't access even recovery mode anymore, even though I have a unlocked bootloader...
Can you guys please help me? I'm just 13 and my parents aren't really happy about what I did to my new fancy phone.
I appreciate it, thanks.

Hi, I'm in complete meltdown today. I didn't do thorough research and unlocked bootloader on my Z3. Now I regret it.
I heard you could restore the DRM files by mounting the TA files back onto the phone. Can someone give me their backed up TA files so that I can restore DRM features on my phone? I cried this morning because of my ignorance.
If not, can someone help me add "CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.7 Recovery" on my phone? I can't seem to load "Advance Stock Kernel with CWM Recovery v01 (FW: 23.0.A.2.93)" onto my phone. The program used to load it won't just make it happen.
I think I can handle the rest after that, but I need some suggestions.

Other than that, can someone find me a PERFECT alternative for Music ID?
Is there also any way to restore "Sony Entertainment Media?"
How about fixing "Audio Quality and Volume Enhancements?"
Finally, will "PS4 Remote Play" still be broken?
I tried emailing [email protected] with the following message:
Hi, is there a way to reload lost DRM keys on a locked bootloader on
my Z3 phone?
Here's the story:
I didn't backup the TA partition on my phone and I unlocked bootloader
which made me lose the DRM files.
I'm in the process of relocking my phone. After relocking my phone,
can I send my phone to your repair center so that you guys can re-add
the DRM files?
From my understanding, you could delete the old partition and add a
new partition into my phone that has the DRM files, correct?
I hope to get a reply soon. Thanks.

I am sure someone could share it with you, but you will be a fool to restore it. The TA partition is individual. If you restore one from another phone you will permanently, 100%, completely hard brick your phone. Do not even think about doing it.

No, they will not help. It well documented that unlocking the boot loses functionality, why would they restore it for you when you admit to unlocking and throwing away your warranty? It is actuall 100% impossible to restore the keys after unlocking unless you took a backup prior to unlocking.
You can however, do a search for restoring DRM functionality, that may help you.
I think you have to try to software it by sony companion (re-instal the frimware). if you cant then try to lock your bootloader and try again to frimware it by sony companion
gregbradley, I followed all the instructions on the internet and I can't get it to install CWM recovery. Maybe later on after work (8PM EST -5 GMT) you can do teamviewer with me? Or am I being unreasonable here?
As for Music ID, please give me the alternative you prefer the most.
Sony Entertainment Media shows as "unavailable" on my phone. Basically, unlocking bootloader killed it.
As for "Audio Quality and Volume Enhancements," audio quality has been degraded because of unlocking bootloader. I was wondering if there's a software or app out there that fixes it.
As for "PS4 Remote Play", any apps out there that remotely connects to the PS4?

Which device do you actually have (D6603 etc)
You should now flash a FTF and exclude system (and kernel if you have just flashed a custom kernel)
How did you install CMW? was it via flashing the doomkernel? That is for D6603 only
Yes, I own D6603, the Z3, not the compact or other variants.

Will I be able to receive otas?
rndchef said:
I spent that past two days rooting and flashing the one rom I could. Had to ignore some Chinese. I am USA 567B167. Got into trouble a number of times. This phone is funky compared to all the rooting I have done. I booted into erocovery, downloaded stock 2GB, wiped and was back to current stock without issue. It bootlooped if I didn't hard reset and wipe cache.

So you just booted to erecovery and from there it automatically downloaded the stock firmware?
You can return stock by use dload update.

yes. I did it twice. that is how many times I got into trouble and was the only solution. It worked great as it gives you the ability to log into wifi with a keyboard present to put in the password, then downloads the stock current rom and flashes it. You have to format data and wipe cache yourself.
Miss Wugfresh root tool. Get you out of any trouble.
It says getting package info failed in erecovery

Erecovery only work for Chinese firmware.
Use the guide above and yes you can receive ota.
I also received the same message. Getting into recovery was inconsistent for me even with TWRP. Sometimes it would do the auto downloaded and fail thing and other times it would go into TWRP. You need to get where you have three choices and pick erocovery and push the start button. This brings up the restore ability. Worked perfect on the USA model.

Yes. Twice. Once to get off of HRT rom that was wonky and another to remove root because I lost Google apps. All accidents and was grateful to discover erecovery put me back on the current B167 version stock.

Are you sure ur not using a paid service?
That's a good news, that was only possible for Chinese firmware, hope they extend it to all regions.

Completely positive. It happened by accident because I got in a bad place with HRT rom. Came out completely stock and current when no upgrade need. Then I rooted stock and somehow lost gapps including keyboard. Did it again and back to stock. All in erecovery. No other programs or files. It did a 2.5GB download, flashed in Emui and rebooted like when I bought it.

Sorry for the no noob question: I just got my mate 9 and unlocked bootloader and rooted it. Recovery is TWRP 3.0.2-2.
Where do i find this erecovery? Couldn't see any download option in TWRP and even Google didn't know that term. Could anybody please explain step by step how to revert to stock (for the only sake of getting OTAs) once the phone has unlocked bootloader and is rooted using the method from xda with modified boot.img?
Or is it even possible to take OTAs while being rooted with system read only? On my previous phone, the Asus Zenfone 2 this was possible.
Thanks a lot

Thanks for the quick answer. Let me clearify what I understood : this erecovery is available only on the PC?
So basically I wait in rooted state until I receive the next OTA, don't take it but switch off the phone.
Then connect it to the PC and boot it up by holding the volume up + power key.
Then what happens exactly?

Ah ok, this erecovery is still available on my phone even if I already flashed a custom recovery, right?
Then after downloading the firmware, erecovery will flash it and overwrite root and lock my bootloader again, correct?
