My VOLTE is working fine on NHA. I noticed the support in the phone when this update was released a couple weeks ago. You need to log into your verizon account and activate the VOLTE feature. It will be working almost immediately after that. I tried a few video calls between my S5 and my wife's and they seem to work OK on my weak LTE signal at my house. You need to turn off wifi before it works too.
I plan to do a manual upgrade to NI2 today. (flash backwards and OTA to NI2 then re-root)

Everything worked great. I'm rooted on NI2 with Xposed and Wanam. After updating OTA to NI2, just flash the original NCG kernel, root, then reflash the NI2 kernel.
Worked Great for me too. Confirmed rooted on NI2
Is it currently OTA only? What about those of us that aren't using Verizon, probably have to wait for a full flash?
I have the Verizon Developer Edition of this phone with it being rooted and having TWRP custom recovery. I tried a 4.4.4 (NI2) ROM on it, and my phone got stuck on the first screen during boot. I was able to restore from a backup through TWRP recovery to get back up and running, again. Hopefully, a working version of NI2 for the Developer Edition comes out soon because I want to enable VoLTE for my phone..
Hey guys, any idea where to get the NI2 kernel? Sorry I wasn't able to find it via a search.

Rooted G900v on NE9 OTA to N12?
Hey everyone,
Im new to rooting, so my fault for the dumb questions. Im. Currently on NE9, rooted with towelroot, Still on stock Android 4.4.2. Do I take the OTA to N12? Will it mess up my phone?, Ill just root it after I update, So Im not worried about losing Root.
Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanx!

I have a Verizon Samsung SM-G900V which I did run Towelroot on to root on the original.
Verizon pushed out the NE9 OTA which I accepted and it broke root. I haven't yet gotten around to following the directions to take it back to root.
My problem is they are trying to push out the NI2 update over the last few weeks to me and every time I try to apply it the phone errors out when trying to apply it. Of course no additional information as to why.
I haven't seen too many people having this particular issue so figured I would ask to see if I should go through and root again then apply the NI2 to the system through a different method than OTA, or if there is a particular file I should check to see what the reason it is failing might be.
Thanks for any advice.

No. I didn't that I remember specifically, but it is possible that I did freeze something and just don't remember.
When I start the phone it boots up then presents me with an error saying "Unfortunately, VZWAVSService has stopped." Otherwise everything seems to be fine.
I didn't have any problems applying the OTA for NE9 so found it odd that this one wouldn't push out correctly.

Heimdall might work with the smaller kernel files but honestly I haven't tried it yet. Give Jodin a try, you can run it from the website or off your computer. Jodin uses heimdall so it won't work with large tar files but should be ok with the smaller ones. Here is the NCG PIT file you will need also. Don't worry it is the same pit for all the versions so far.

You're extremely lucky you did not lock your bootloader. I understand a rooted phone with a custom recovery will normally prevent an OTA update from successfully installing. But, to be on the safe side, I would NEVER allow an OTA update to be installed on my Developer Edition phone. Just a suggestion...if you have a Developer Edition S5 do not take an OTA or ODIN/Flash a retail firmware. If you do, your bootloader will get locked and you'll be left with a very expensive retail version of the S5.

Lmao wow. That's the most pitiful update ever. Seriously, couldn't they have waited until there was something more substantial and then included Canadian roaming in THAT update. As always though, Verizon is dumber than a bag of hammers...

Hey guys, I have a question about this update,
My friend has the S3 for whom I safe- rooted, debloated and whatnot. Now that this update came, my friend tried to update but to no avail. She is adamant about the fact that Verizon definitely has something important hidden in the update, despite me trying to tell her otherwise, and figured that she couldn't install the update because she was rooted.
Naturally, I fully unroot her entire phone, uninstall root-only apps, and try the update, but it doesn't work. When the phone reboots for installation, the installation bar loads for a bit, hangs, then just says "error" and does not update.
Anyone know what the problem could be? Normally I wouldn't care so much, but if Android 4.4 is actually coming to the S3 then I don't want her not to have it, and I can already tell it's not going to work if this update doesn't either.
Thank you so much in advance.

Some of the bloatware you removed likely had to be present on the phone in order for the update to take place. Unless you are sure someone is never going to go back to stock without flashing an ODIN tar image and wiping their phone clean, best to just freeze bloatware with Titanium Backup. That way you can just unfreeze it in order to go back to full stock. Unless you have a list of the bloatware you removed and can somehow sideload them back in, you will unfortunately have to flash her phone to full stock VRUCML1 and wipe it clean.

Ah, I see, next time I'm around her I'll re-root it and backup all her stuff with titanium backup, flash the VRUCML1 and factory reset, then restore everything and see if it works.
Strangely enough, when the same update for my Verizon Note 2 came out, I was able to update while rooted even though I unsinatalled theexact same system apps I did on her phone. How strange.
Nonetheless, thank you so much.
I have a question for you all. I took the OTA update for 4.3 when it came out but after that I rooted my gs3 Verizon phone again successfully. Now I also took this last update and now lost root on my phone. I tried to reroot the phone but it fails now. There error I get on safestrap is something about the addresses not being able to be found. Can anyone help me reroot my phone so my apps like titanium will work again?
Thanks

I have not yet updated to this new patch yet, am I still able to install saferoot as directed on the thread for it or do I need to do something special first?
The following files will enable tethering on your I337. Make certain that you use the version applicable to your current build and only use on stock ROM. Use on custom ROM's may cause issues with the ROM. Proceed at your own risk!
Note: This will modify your system causing future ota updates to fail!
Here they are:
I337UCUFNI1_Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip
(To undo the mod flash the I337_NI1_TetherAddOn_Revert-to-Stock.zip using the same instructions below).
I337UCUFNC1_Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip
I337UCUFNB1_Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip
Instructions:
1. Root your device(See Post #2 for rooting options).
2. Install the latest Safestrap.apk.
3. Place the applicable Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip on ext sdcard.
4. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery and flash the Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip in Stock Slot (Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing!)
5. Reboot. Done!

NC1 Users: Use Towelroot.apk
NB1 Users: Flash the NC1_Stock_Kernel in PDA Slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+), then use Towelroot.apk to root your device. (Optional: flash the NB1_Stock_Kernel once rooted).
Alternatively, flash the I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Rootable_Stock_Odin_tar to get back to factory stock NB1 then use Towelroot.apk to root your device.

Most custom roms already offer tethering built in. Also they may already have a modified framework-res.apk(which these files replace) and may cause issues. So to answer your question I recommend only using this hack on stock.
I have an att i337 stock mf3, rooted using towel and su access. unlocked sim using tmo sim, which file should i download? also im on 4.2.2.. or if i update to atleast 4.3 with the newer modem will that fix this problem?

I'm surprised that you are one of the few that still has att i337 mf3 phone. if so, stay on it, root it and disable the update. else, you'll lost pretty much everything unless something else happen. however, the only thing i can recommend is that you follow another guide that can do it or use foxfi and the paid key.
Holy crap dude! Super cool! If only I didn't have a faulty motherboard everything would be almost perfect, only thing I I'm missing is wifi calling but whatever. Correct. Installing safestrap will not wipe anything.
Awesome, installed without issues.
The connection does appear to be quite a bit slower than using the previous theringprovision.apk with 4.2.2.
Would flashing a different modem help this?

Nope just flash over previous version.
Flashing it now, I'll get you an update in the morning.
Edit: Seems quite a bit faster after flashing the new file.
I wish I had done a speed test first but the results below are from my second install
36.64Mb down 12.95 up.
Once I rebooted I got the message "Safestrap disabled"
is that ok? I noticed the security policy in the 4.4.2 update with Samsung seems to like the ban hammer with alot of rooted stuff.

I don't know what kind of LTE speeds you normally get in your location but those speeds that you posted are more than decent. And I wouldn't worry about the safestrap disabled message, that's normal. I definitely made a mistake when compiling the first version of the tether add on but this latest version is definitely correct enjoy.
Did anyone else get a pop-up for a new OTA update today? I'm running NI2 and the new one looks to be NK2. Google doesn't return much in the way of results for something coming today/recently. There's not much on Verizon's site either: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-galaxy-s5-12-16-14.pdf All it lists is a VPN fix, SD card fix, and replacing ISIS with Softcard. It does not appear to be Lollipop
Hopefully flashing the kernel to NCG rooting and then returning to the current kernel still will work. I can download the files if someone can explain how to extract the kernel.
I too just received this update. Going to wait don't want to lose root
I got the update and applied it. Lost root (knew I would), but everything else seems fine.
I don't know how to extract the kernel though. Hopefully others take notice and help you or just provide the process and files for the masses.

use terminal emulator or adb (just need root) - for system and kernel dump
Code:
su
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
Seems to be a small and non-critical update. I'll probably skip on this and wait for lollipop.

I've had a few skips here and there, but occurances vary greatly depending on the app, BT device, and distance. 90%, though, is problem free.
I just updated lost root of course, used the towleroot/odin flash method and put the NI2 kernal back on, phone says I am still up to date with NK2, and finds no new updates. Not sure if this is actually the case, I am still new to all of this. But I do have root access back now so..
you would have to odin back to ncg kernal, root then odin nk2 kernel back once and if its available
---------- Post added at 08:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
if u odin ni2 and still shows nk2 then it probably didnt work.. either way, you need to wait until someone puts out the kernal for nk2 or else u might as well stay on nk2 or just go back to ncg root install ss then flash rom of choice and then kernal of choice lol. im content where im at especially when theres no big changes at all
been waiting for this just for the SD card fix ever since the verizon tech's told me it was coming, hopefully they really did fix it.
Now the anxious waiting for it to get posted since I can't do OTA from Canada.
I will wait for it to be rootable, as I'm not willing to lose that.
That said, I've been waiting to be able to use OpenVPN over 4G/3G since I got the phone, so if this fixes the issue, it's definitely worth the update for me. I still can't believe it's taken them this long to fix the freaking issue...

It won't be rootable, as the past 2 updates haven't been rootable. As long as you can downgrade to NCG, that's your root method right there. You won't be able to root the new updates as they stand.

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just read this on Reddit, and wanted to confirm if this actually works. Basically, a user used the VZW Update Assistant to take the OTA which unrooted their phone, but successfully updated without needing to wipe.
http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/38c8tw/how_to_unroot_your_verizon_s6_the_easy_way_no_wipe/
if you prefer root then why would you want to update to not having root? if you just wait a few days then devs will have a root update file.
I was curious if this was a valid and complete way to unroot if needed.
Has this method been validated? Does it wipe all data and basically ODINs back to stock?
If you read the linked post he says it will not wipe data.
Hi! So like many others I wanted to unroot my S6 so I could take advantage of the Verizon OTA update. I was a little bothered when I read that it is very difficult and you need to flash odin and download firmware (which someone needs to upload better links too, the only ones available are all hosted on RapeGator and take like 2 days to download). Anyway, I found an easy no wipe way to do this.
Plug your phone into your computer and download the Verizon Update Assistant software. Plug your phone in and follow the instructions to UPDATE your phone. The phone will have a teal screen that says "Downloading" then it will do typical Android stuff and then it will boot up with an unlocked bootloader symbol with the word Custom written underneath. Your phone is officially unrooted, not wiped, and has the latest Verizon software update available. Note, after you reboot after the phone was unrooted the unlocked bootloader symbol goes away.
Edit: Knox has not been tripped!

Did you try this method and confirm? Is it rerootable with the updated PingPong
I haven't tried it yet. Still waiting for validation from someone. I was hoping to use this method to unroot, take OTA, and re-root now that PingPong has been updated.
**Edit**
I took the plunge and it worked perfectly. If you're on stock rooted OC3, you can unroot and take the OTA successfully with this method.
Can I do this directly from CleanROM ?
I would like to know if I can go from CleanROM 1.0 to the unrooted OTA OE2 without losing data?
Can someone clarify that or do I need to be on Stock Rooted OC3

In the Clean Rom thread, they said that this won't work. Didn't specify why, however.

In the CleanROM thread it's indicated that you need to take the update to OE2 before you can update to the new CleanROM 1.5.

Can someone confirm this that it does not wipe the phone? A friend of mine rooted his Verizon S6 with PingPong app and he wants to unroot it due to various issues. Will this method work?
Just acquired a Sprint S5 with 6.0.1 and PH3 firmware. I've never had a Sprint device before, I've always used Verizon. What's the procedure for root/bootloader on Sprints version?
You can root the G900P on PH3 with CF-Auto-Root. It WILL trip Knox if not already tripped.

Don't care about Knox, just wanna be able to use my kernel on this phone.
The correct version of CF-Auto-Root to use is available at https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ - just search for G900P. It says the build ID is for PCA but it also worked perfectly for me on PH3.

Is there a way to get twrp on it currently?
After I rooted with CF-Auto-Root, TWRP was easy to install using TWRP Manager from the Play store.

Can't I just Odin twrp and install SuperSU through recovery? I'm new to sprint phones, thanks for the help.
CF-Auto-Root installs a version of SuperSu as described by Chainfire at the link in my first post. I suppose you could install TWRP with Odin but I don't think SuperSu will be of any use without root. I'm not really an expert.
Twrp will install the binary on its own, it will say supersu not detected, you'll need to install the apk/app of su. Unrooted ever? Interested to know if the new magisk works for galaxy s5
Sorry to piggy-back, but is there any type of process for unlocking the bootloader? Is the bootloader already unlocked on these phones? I've seen conflicting posts, but they're all old.

I haven't tried yet, but it's looking like you should be able to Odin flash twrp, then from there either install root or flash ROMs. But I can't get anyone to confirm for the PH3 update

Well, if no one knows I'll give you guys an update when I try it.
Well. We're going to have to wait a bit longer. The eBay listing for it said it was in "very good condition" and was described as having minor scratches on the sides of the phone. When I got it, it looked like this: http://imgur.com/a/qfywD
I powered it on anyway, thinking maybe I could fix the power charger tab, and put a tempered glass protector on it to cover up the weird issues with the glass. That was, until I tried the capacitive buttons, which didn't work. No lights on them either. Now I'm waiting for the seller to respond to my return request. Friggen rip-off.

Ouch, looks like it needs a new digitizer. I recommend Swappa instead of ebay.
I had a good experience with ubuyrite or something like that, let me return an s4 that wasn't to my liking, then let me return I t for full price when I wanted an s5
Ok, so I got my new S5, upgraded to PH3, then downloaded CF-Auto-Root from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/408/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.zip
I already had adb configured, so I enabled developer options, then used adb to reboot to the bootloader (download mode). Drivers were auto detected on Windows 10. I opened the bundled version of Odin in the auto-root folder and flashed the bundled tar.md5 file. After the reboot I had SuperSu installed and working. Rebooted back into download mode, then did the same process to flash the TWRP 3.0.2-0 tar from the TWRP website. I'm currently doing a backup and we'll see if I get a working ROM installed today.

Is ph3 marshmallow? If you're bored try to go back to LP? I'm interested to know if it's possible. Returning to kitkat is blocked on the sprint s5s once at lollipop, I was wondering if marshmallow did the same

Yeah, PH3 is the latest version of MM. Are you wanting me to Odin back to LP, or just install an LP based stock ROM?

Odin or I was wondering if twrp would bring it back, you don't have to, I just remember kit Kat getting blocked when lollipop came out.
