Camera Screen off? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody know how to take pictures without the phones screen on , maybe by pressing the volume up and down bottoms simultaneously ? I can't seem to find an app that will do it?

It's definitely possible, but I bet will cause HUGE battery drain.

Well Pressy and klick do it so it's definitely doable.

(Q) is there a way to turn off the home button lights?

Whenever I'm watching a video the home buttons tend to annoy me. Does it bother others? Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks

4.4.2 easter egg!

I found a neat, but insanely infrequent easter egg :sly:
When you go to settings> about phone and tap the 4.4.2 box it takes you to a "K" screen. (Not the easter egg)
Tap or long press the "k" and it takes you to the "kit kat" screen (still not the easter egg).
Long press that and it takes you to a screen that is reminiscent of windows phone.(almost there!)
When you press the tiles they fly in and out and change. The images on the tiles represent the OS designations from Donut to Kit Kat. If you play with it long enough though you will find, (here it comes!!!) A Key Lime Pie tile. It is VERY quick, just long enough to notice it, I've tried to get a screenie of it but samsungs slide to capture is just wayyyy too slow. Just thought that might be interesting to some, seeing as everyone was hyped up on this OS being designated Key Lime Pie. Well played, Google. Well played.

I found 4 fast taps on each screen works & long press on KITKAT logo to get final screen.

Sorry Mje, got thumb happy on the thanks button. Also, awesome. I couldn't get one to stick around long enough for the capture.

Because I had no idea about the hardware capture option. Lol, Samsung Haas spoiled me with its fancy motions and what have you.

Tapping toward top of phone turns on screen

I'm noticing that when the screen is off and I tap toward the top of the screen the phone screen turns on. I just noticed it today but it happens every time I tap the top of the screen. Also when the screen is on and I hover my finger toward the top part it selects buttons on the screen as if the sensitivity is high up there. Thinking of returning the phone for a new one but wanted to know if others had this problem.

It could be a problem with your sensors I'd call Samsung or take it back to sprint

I would boot in safe mode and confirm it's not a third party app before taking it back. Also poke through all the settings to be sure motion and accessibility features are off. Safe mode instructions for the s3 or s4 worked for me. I forget how to do it but Google is how I found it

Thanks for the help, I figured out it was an app causing it after all

[Q] Actually recording videos

Am I an idiot or is the only way to record a video is turning off the screen and then holding it landscape and hitting volume?
Whenever I hit the camera app while it is unlocked, it only gives me camera and selfie options. I can't find any video recorder shortcut.
This is on the latest firmware (after the OTA).
If you open the camera app. Tap the button in the lower right, you should see a page with options, one of which is video

There's no button in the lower right.
The button on the lower left only gives me selfie and camera.

That's not looking right to me. I've got a series of options on my camera that aren't showing there. Anything non stock in your ROM??

I just got the phone today and haven't done anything.
Back to the store I think, probably something wrong with the phone software, but if you haven't altered anything, they should just exchange it.

I figured out the problem.
It's cause I changed to the Google Now Launcher.
Can't believe the camera relies on BlinkFeed...
Is there any way to get around this? Or any other launchers that don't do this?
I'm using apex launcher, with a shortcut to activate blinkfeed, like it a lot, no issues with the camera or anything else that I've found. Glad you got it working.

[Q] Lock Button Sink.

Hello all!
After searching for a while I can't seem to find a thread on this. Does anyone else's Nexus 5 lock button sink towards the top of the button, or rattle around?
The volume rockers don't rattle or sink. Any feed back would be awesome! Thank you!

Thank you a ton for the reply. Mine is about as bad as in that video. I'm quite good with taking devices apart (had to do it for HTC vivid to get s-off) but it's just not worth the time to take the device apart. Maybe getting a case will quiet it down. Thank you again!
