Hi, if you are reading this, your help or solutions to this problem will be greatly appreciated. I have a Kinguser rooted Xperia J running on JB. I swapped the interbal storage with my 16gb SanDisk ultra external one using External2Internal (Root). After that, I installed a few big games like NFSMW. However, after that, when I try to install other apps from Google Play Store, I get the "Insufficient Space" error. I can only download apps that are 5mb or less. I still can install apps from third party sources though. I have tried clearing cache, re-swapping the SDcards, rebooting, but none seem to work. Pls help!

I've had a recurring problem with running out of internal storage space. I've moved all apps that I possibly can over to my SD card, cleared the cache using CacheMate, and uninstalled most of the bloatware that came with the phone as well as any apps I didn't need that weren't on my SD card already and couldn't be moved. The other times that I've gotten this error, I've been able to uninstall enough stuff to make the notification go away but this time I can't seem to free up enough space.
I noticed that this error/notification occurs when my apps attempt to automatically update. For some reason this eats up my internal storage space even if the apps are installed on the SD card. Also, Market won't let me install any apps, even if they're installed to the SD card. Finally, when I get this error, my Gmail app stops working. It won't retrieve new mail at all.
Any ideas what is eating up so much of my internal storage space and how I can fix it??
Rooted then huh? market search "fota fix" by Matt Henry. Will set you up

Yes, my phone is rooted and running the Octane V3 ROM. I tried installing Fota Fix and I can't install it because there's insufficient space (I have 31mb free on internal memory and about 4gb on the sd card, yet it still gives me this error). lol...this is such an annoying problem.

I'm trying to install "The Room" on our unrooted (still under warranty) Asus Transformer TF300T but I keep getting the above error message. I've done a search on the XDA site and found some threads relating to the same problem but the solutions seem to refer to rooted devices. I've also done a search on the Asus for smdl2tmp1.asec and drawn a blank (even with hidden files unhidden).
The tablet is running Android 4.2.1.
Is anyone able to help, please?
Many thanks
It installed fine for me on android 4.2.1
have you tried unmounting you sd card then installing the game mate

Any ideas why it won't install for me? I've tried several times today and always get the same error message. Can you suggest any settings I should check?

There's no SD card but internal storage shows 26.51GB space available.
ahh ok if you have a spare sd card try putting that in to see if it installs

I had no SD Card when I first got the tablet 2 weeks ago, and a whole lot of apps were giving me the same error - which I thought was silly since there was ridiculous amounts of free space.
Chucked in an SD card and voila everything worked, but it wasn't installing to the SD card. Asus be trolling.
Thanks, robgee and batwingnz, installing an SD card has done the trick even though the app has installed on internal storage rather than the SD card. Hey ho, at least it's on there and working.
Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

glad you got it working mate
Tried *everything* but no luck
I am still on stock ROM (latest ASUS ROM update version), but now rooted the TF300T.
I have been getting the same error for many months
I have tried *everything* I could think off except complete reset of the device.
Problem is ... sometimes it does work for a while ?!
I have rooted the TF300T.
I ran all imaginable optimization (Root cleaner, clean App and Dalvik caches, greenified everything (but also same error in Safe mode!), ran LagFix etc).
I unmounted, mounted sd card etc.
I fear some the eMMC flash memory is somehow failing !
I bought Titanium backup so I can reset the TF300T.
Does anyone know of a solution ? If I reset the tablet, will the errors be gone ? Did anyone try that ?

You tried plugging in an SD card and installing to the internal memory?
How do you control installation of an App in internal memory ?

Hi cmendonc2, thx for your assistance.
I did plug in an SD card, but also tried without an external one.
Installing to the internal memory, what exacly do you mean ... how can you opt for that ?
I have root apps that let me transfer Apps around memory types, but installing an App is AFAIK determined by Android and/or the Dev and not up to me. Or what am I missing here ?
Thx in advance.
I have installed Cyanogenmod 7.2 to my Samsung Galaxy i5801 and it seems to be working OK, mostly. I am having to try to reinstall several of the apps I had previously but each time I try I get a message that there is insufficient space to install.
I have checked the reported space and it seems I have 0 internal storage and 14GB external storage. I have tried to change the storage location for downloaded apps to both internal and external with no difference.
Any suggestions for a solution? I have tried searching the forum and, although I see other posts asking similar questions there don't appear to be any answers.
Mike
You can try to reflash the rom or you can partition your SD card and use data2sd.
The problem with the install location is, that you need to have free space on the internal storage in advance.
The app is first downloaded into a container on the internal storage, and then installed (at least partly) to the internal storage. So you should have at least appSize * 2 of free space.
Another app you could try is Link2SD. It moves mostly everything of an app to the sd-card. But for that you need to partition your card. Just google for that app
TRIED Link2SD [ BUT NOT WORKING ]
Link 2 SD is best to Move apps to SD Card ...........
But in my CM 10 Its not Moving ....... can anybody help ????

If you are using Marcellusbe's build then Link2SD should work. Just ignore the error and reboot the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31062543
I use marcellusbe's CM 10 only .....
I rebooted the phone ...
But it is not at all movig the apps to external SD
did you install the rom with odin? i had exactly the same problem, reinstalling the rom from clockwork mod recovery fixed it, or install the mtd version from recovery.
Hello,
I followed this thread to try and switch my SD card (32 gb) with my internal storage.
After doing what the above guide said, I managed to get from >>INTERNAL STORAGE being 3,98gb, APP storage being 4,15gb and SD card being 29,90gb<< to >>INTERNAL STORAGE being UNAVAILABLE, APP storage being 29,90gb and SD card being 4,15gb<<, whereas the poster of the guide got it so his SD card is now internal storage.
I have done some tinkering before trying out this method, I mainly used internal2external app i got on the play store, but with no success either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
try this instead.. its to another post of mine in another topic where they were binding the internal partition with data partition.. the method you linked to is swapping the internal partition with your external sd card.. the method i linked you to is better than binding or swapping since it just extends your internal partition to your external.. i have 10mb of used space on my internal partition and can install any and all apps i can find.. if you decide after getting it set up that you want to be even more extreme.. you can pair foldermount with link2sd and probably have less than a mb of used space lol.. good luck
Since the 2nd partition..

Thank you for this, I have tried it and, even though I do get the error that the 2nd partition can't be mounted (?) it still links the applications to SD. But, after I linked my apps to SD, I tried installing a big file (i had 3.03gb out of 3.98 free (INTERNAL), after installing i have 3.79gb out of 3.98gb), and I got the storage low again, I couldn't seem to move it to SD :/
After restarting the phone, i got the "Mount warning" again, and all my apps that I linked 2 SD are shown as grey icons saying SD which I presume means they cannot be launched as they aren't even installed. After uninstalling the app that filled up my internal storage, I restarted phone to find out all my linked apps were deleted, any idea what I did wrong?

I was have the same problem. There is only one way. Gain s-off with rumrunner. Look rumrunner thread and follow the instructions. Its really easy. After s-off you can do everything. You can delete google apps, link all apps to sd without any problem. I have installed many apps i still have 3.00 gb full of 3.85 gb. I created sd partition 2 gb and linked all apps there. Good luck

i use Rom Cleaner for the One X and it removes 95% bloatware(i had to add ~35 boost online apps to the list).. link2sd cant move everything and for that you can use FolderMount.. together these apps reduce internal used space to nearly nothing
thank you

I dont know moonshine. But before running rumrunner, disable your antivirus on PC. Than check your root is done. It want root access you have to allow it. Check your phone while rumrunner running

I am running an SGH-T599 with CM11 4.4.4. I am trying to install Mortal Kombat X, but every time I try, I get an error saying "Couldn't install app. Not enough storage available on the external storage," or something close to that. I know for a FACT that I have enough room on the external SD card. The problem is that it's trying to install on the internal memory, which I don't have enough space on. (The internal memory is only 1.44 GB, the game is 1.5) Is there a way to get it to install the data on to the SD card by default? I was able to do this on my old ZTE Savvy, which ran Android 4.1.2. Thank you for the help, as this problem is HIGHLY annoying.

Try this: Set Install Location to SDCard by default
If that doesn't help, see how to do it using Link2SD here:
How to completely setup for using Link2SD
(It requires that your phone is rooted)
Thanks, but I have no access to a computer.

Yes, check this: Partition SD Card from rooted phone
Make sure you have a backup of the memory card safe somewhere, since data can be lost in the process depending upon the partition size
What about receiving no error just the ''Could not install app''?
I can install from Playstore but thats not the point. Should work both ways
I also could not install from playstore, my internal storage has 3gb free how to fix?
Try to delete the google play services cache
Have you tried it?
