Stopped sending messages. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone stopped sending texts. I installed Google voice and uninstalled it. I'm not sure if that's related to it. I can still get SMS and MMS tho.

After working well for the first week, my Captivate has stopped recieving text messages. I have tried sending from several different sources as well as sending an email to my phone [email protected] to no avail. Anyone have any ideas on where to start?!

Check your AT&T Account manager online, make sure you still have a text messaging plan. When I did an upgrade some how it was removed and I just didn't get or receive any texts for a few days.... not even a charge.
i bet your text messaging settings got changed that happened to me but i forgot how to change srry
Finally! Someone else with this problem! I have to do a factory reset or a reflash every time it happens, and it works after that, but I haven't been having any trouble with it since I went back to stock. (No root or any fixes/sideloaded apps, only about 5 apps total installed.)
Did you have any sort of task killer installed?

Sending SMS again after restart

Hey everyone,
I currently have an AT&T Captivate on the Telus network. I had to manually put in the APN setting and stuff. I have a problem with the SMS portion of the phone. If I send an SMS using the messaging app or handscent sms it shows the sms as sending even though it has been sent. And when I restart the phone it sends all of the text messages again. It is very annoying as sometimes it will resend about 30 texts to the same person. What is wrong with the phone?
I have the same problem sometimes with handscent. Usually it's only 1 or 2 tho

Go under 'Settings', 'Send Message Settings', and check the box for 'Prevent Resend'. This stops that problem with Handcent SMS.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA running Android 2.3
just tried, it would still send the message again after i restart the phone. any other ideas?
i have to delete the whole sms thread to make this not happen. Which is kind of annoying. So I am hoping someone has the same issue as me and has fixed it lol

New Android Messenger App - Can't receive MMS

Hi there,
I recently got the new Android messenger app after upgrading my phone to L
I prefer it to hangouts, but I can't receive MMS.
The important thing is - if I use hangouts, I can receive them without issue on hangouts. So I don't think it's my APN settings that are the issue (I'm on Straight Talk)
Is anyone else having this problem?
Tried unchecking auto retrieve MMS, but it just freezes on 'downloading' and the MMS never shows up.
Thanks for any help you can offer

Ah right - I tried doing that but it didn't work. Thanks for the suggestions though.
I think part of the issue is Messaging has no options for MMS, whereas in Hangouts you can select a different APN.
I can't see any option for this in the messaging app.
I'm having the same issue. I've got android L on the lg g3
MMS works perfectly fine for me in the Messenger app. Both sending and recieving.
I'm also on straight talk and MMS worked fine in hangouts. Since installing messenger it won't receive. Just sits hanging on the downloading screen.
I would love to start using messenger as I feel it handles SMS just slightly better, but can't do without the MMS and group texting features. Will wait for update.
No problems here either, and I'm in an edge area.
I've encountered the same problem. Tried multiple ROMs to be sure; same problem existed. Messaging lets me receive them, but not Messenger. I have to change my default SMS app every time I want to download a MMS message. Sending MMS works, strangely enough.
Same here....when I receive a MMS , the app seems to freeze , I can't send any sms during the "downloading" time
Doesn't work
I always hated Hangouts so i downloaded SMS app now i tried downloading messenger and it will not download MMS messages. I am on Straight Talk and have a Nexus 5.
Thanks
Pic shows my issue and when i hit "Tap" it said download but will not. HELP!!!!!
What I did (I found this somewhere online), go and delete all the APN settings except the one you use. Reboot and viola. MMS on AT&T Straight Talk worked for me in Google Messenger!

Able to send Group Text but not receive any replies - regular MMS is fine

So out of nowhere, without changing any settings or touching anything on my phone, I cant recieve replies to group texts I send.
I noticed about 2 weeks ago I started getting "Textra cannot retrieve MMS" and it went from there....
Here is what I tried
1) Checked APN settings, updated to official Straight Talk ones- still cant recieve
2) I can send regular pics and recieve them just fine, it is only with group texts
3) changed from Textra to a few other apps, issue persists.
4) verfied the people I am sending group texts to are recieving my texts, but I am simply not getting their replies
No idea where to go from here but very frustrated as I have missed out on a few important texts because of this

hangouts not sending MMS but can receive MMS

Just bought a Honor 8 for about a week and still finding my way around it. I had a LG G flex 2 and the honor is so much better. Anyway I use Hangouts to send SMS and MMS. Just notice I can receive MMS but not sending them out. I can use the default Message App and it sent out MMS just fine so it is not the Access point problem. Anybody ran in this problem and how do you fix it? TIA.
PS. Still waiting for OTA update to 7. L04 in US with T-mobile.
maybe you should re-install the configuration settings .. contact the service provider
I am on T-mobile and I have the same problem. I can receive MMS within Hangouts, but cannot send one. I am on Nougat, though, and I noticed this problem only after the upgrade (probably because I never sent an MMS before the upgrade).
If I install Google Messenger and use it as my SMS app, it does not display SMS conversations correctly. All SMS conversations are labeled as "unknown sender".
I also use MightyText to send text from a computer, and any SMS sent from a computer does not show up on the phone.
It seems that Honor 8 has a bug related to SMS/MMS...
