[Q] Rolling back Cyanogenmod Update? - General Questions and Answers

I've done a fair bit of rooting and flashing in the past, but got lazy
On my Galaxy S2, I used the simpler Cyanogenmod one click installer package, which rooted my phone and flashed CM10.1 / v4.3
A week ago I updated to CM11 / v4.4 using system update, and now I'm in hell, the cyanogenmod website lists CM11 for the GS2 as a present release snapshot, and it's riddled with problems
I need a daily driver, not an experiment and I really need to go back to my old 4.3 ROM
I understand that there's no way to do that via system update
So my question is,
Can I simply run the cyanogenmod one click installer again and get CM10.1 (which the installer still installs)
Or would that cause problems?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

[Q] ROMS with GApps?

Hello, I just rooted my Galaxy S3 for Verizon for the first time yesterday, therefore I am fairly new to this. After I flashed CM10 using TWRP, my Google apps are gone. I've tried flashing gapps on TWRP but it gives me a message saying "unfortunately, Google Play has stopped working." I know that this is due to the licensing issues and all, so my question is, what ROMS can I flash that has GApps available in it?
Thanks in advance!

To answer your question, any TW based roms will have Gapps with it. So practically any rom in the Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum would have it. To your issue, are you sure you flashed the right Gapps version? Just as reference you can get any version from here http://goo.im/gapps I assumed you flashed 10.1 version of CM since they are the latest which you should be using the 20130301 version of Gapps following the table that is on that website.
This might be a stupid question, but where can I find this forum? And yes, I did flash that version of Gapps... And correction; I have the 10.0.0-d2vzw version of CM. Am I supposed to get another version of Gapps? I really like this ROM and I want to try it out for a few weeks until I switch to a new one.

Forum section for us is http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1708 Go there and click on Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum. If you look at the website link I gave you, they have a table. On the left, it shows the CM versions and on the right shows the corresponding Gapps version you are suppose to use with that CM version. Since you are using 10.0.0, if you look on the left you will see 10.0.x and on the right, you will see the corresponding gapps version 20121011. You use that version for CM 10. Btw if you find CM 10 interesting go to the Verizon Galaxy S III Original Android Development forum. They have roms based on CM, AOSP, AOKP, etc. Be sure to read up more on flashing since you are pretty new to this. Bricking phones isn't fun lol
What ROMS do you personally recommend? And I know! I almost bricked it yesterday, and trust me, it was not fun at all.

Depends on your preference. If you are into the Stock TouchWiz look but without the bloat that verizon puts, I recommend CleanRom. I also recommend it to people who are new to flashing since it is a pretty simple rom. This rom is pretty much as close as you can get to getting stock reliability. If you want to go into a more customize it yourself TouchWiz roms, I would suggest SynergyROM, Jelly 'Beans' Rom, Hyperdrive, or Axis. Besides each having their own tweaks and sometimes themes, during install, you get to choose which apps/settings/kernel/theme, you want to have, so pretty much you get to customize almost all aspects of the rom to your liking. They all also get updated on a somewhat regular basis. You will have to flash all of them and play with them to see which one is to your liking.
For CM 10.1 based roms, CM 10.1 Nightlies, Slimbean, Carbon Rom. I would be careful with these roms, as they are a bit temperamental with some phones. Most of the time you are fine and you won't get into an issue but the times that you do, you will have to read through the threads to see if there is a solution to it.
There are also the PARANOIDANDROID and ParanoidKANGdroid roms, I haven't personally tried them but heard good things, they are also based on CM 10.1
I really appreciate your help, bro. For now, I'll stick to the CM 10.1 ROM that I just flashed. It's good so far, and I finally got t solve my issue of gapps thanks to you.
Great example of helping someone! Posts like this are the reason why I became a member of this site and fell in love with it (actually my wife calls it addiction)! I wish there were more people helping others like this, it would only make this forum better.

Official CM11?

Hi everybody, this is my first thread here.
I'm currently on stock 4.1.1 after getting s-off and supercid but then soft bricking trying to update hboot (I think I restarted my phone while it was updating) . Little bit put off trying to load a custom ROM for now (having to reconnect gmail accounts, redownload apps etc) but I'd obviously make the exception for 4.4.
I've seen a few unofficial CM11 builds are already out there in some form or another but my question is will there be an official CM11 for the HOS? If not what will be the closest thing to it? Someone that knows more about CM11 (in general), will it be long until they have a fully functional 4.4 ROM with all features working?
Thanks!
Cyanogenmod will finish cm 10.2 before moving on to 11

Its MOST likely, sense we are still part of the HTC "One" line. But Cyanogenmod Developers have stated that just because Google optimized android 4.4 for older devices that they still wouldn't go back and support them. But our device is a monster, and its never old to me! One thing I can tell you is the HTC Evo 4G wont be seeing official builds:laugh:
CM11 is already running faster and most stable than CM10.2, so i would imagine we'll start getting official releases at some point

[Q] Help flashing from cm10.1.2 to cm11

Hi everyone, please delete if this has been posted elsewhere, I didn't find a similar thread nearby.
I've been happy with cm10.1.2 on my Verizon S3 for a while but am looking to update to cm11 m6. Noticed a couple things and had a few questions if you folks would be kind enough to oblige.
1. Cyanogenmod's built in updater (update types set to "All versions [incl. Nightlies]) only shows me cm10.x stable releases and cm11 nightlies up through february, no cm11 milestones before or since. Is this because of the consolidation of all S3s into the new "d2lte" device category?
2. If so, do I then just update TWRP, download cm-11-20140504-SNAPSHOT-M6-d2lte.zip, and flash away? Is it ok to do a dirty flash from cm10 to cm11 or do I have to do a full wipe (would prefer not to if at all possible)?
Sorry if these are noob questions - I only got into custom roms because I hate Touchwiz *that* much and have only been really learning on an as-needed basis, so I tend to approach new releases with caution. Thanks in advance!

I couldn't tell you why the M6 doesn't show up on the updater (but that's a good idea as to why), but as to the second question.. do a Nandroid backup, then update the TWRP, then wipe, then flash the rom, the gapps then wipe again for fun. Don't do that dirty.. 10.x to 11 would be a bad thing if done without wipe.

Need STABLE 4.2+ ROM...

I have a WiFi Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0"). I bought this for the SOLE purpose of swapping it into my vehicle as the main media source - radio, video, navigation. I need to root it for a few pieces of software to make this an easy swap (mostly need it to behave like a newer LG phone where you double tap to wake up) so I need a custom kernel and/or ROM to enable this feature via software I guess... So, if I wanted a custom ROM, what is the most STABLE ROM to date. I have used probably 15 different ROM's between my S3, Note2 and older phones and with just about every one of them, there was some random problem with glitches or restarts... Just want this to be as seamless as possible.
I have found Slimkat to be very stable on my 5113. I wanted a tablet that had a very light ROM and Slimkat delivered.

Slimkat had some sound issues on my 5113, Omnirom works great for me!
I think the best way is to install one, make a backup in TWRP and then you can wipe and try other roms.
Running CyanogenMod 10.2.1 for the last year and it's lite and super stable, no glitches nothing wierd. Everything works. W/great battery life. Check out

I am going through the process of assessing the last official release for the Tab 2 7" and 10.1" (4.2.2) and comparing them to the last official stable release from CM and the CM11 nightlies.
I can tell you that so far, as much as I hate the TW interface, the last official stock ROM is stellar for battery life. I seem to remember (But been too long to trust the memories) that the last official stable CM10 was really really good on battery and overall performance/stability.
I am commenting on the progress in the p5110 experimental forum at CM if you want to follow. my user name there is Frontlinegeek.
The CM11 nightlies are stable. I have been running them since December and never had any issues.

Oh they are plenty stable but there is a known KitKat battery drain issue in it that has not been fixed. You need to install a custom Kernel to get around the issue till they finally fix it in the official ROM downloads from CM.
I used Dhollmen's Kernel to get past the issue.
I had stupidly not done any research on XDA over the issue and have since moved back to CM11 nightlies and the mentioned Kernel and the battery life is stellar. Again.

Interesting, because in the two years I have owned my tab 2 and the 6 months I've owned my LG g2, I have never had to flash a custom kernel. I guess I just get lucky. [emoji41]
Ya, I never had an issue on CM10 or with CM11 in the early days but it cropped up in the spring and I was far too tolerant of the issue all this time. Only learned that it can be an issue this week.

I think it's stable enough for daily use. I use it for many days without any restart or any problem.
You have to update to 4.2.2 first (It won't work on 4.1.x bootloader)
You must know to backup whatever data you don't want to loose cause a full wipe is needed.
Read the first post for warnings, bugs etc. The main bug is bluetooth headset (if you own one).
And yes, you can install from CWM. Instructions on first post.
Also, read third post to keep it fast as long and as "hard" as you use it.

@sujith88 no, for custom roms you need custom recovery ( CWM or Philztouch)

How to get sources for CM11 for I9105P?
In "[ROM][4.4.4][UNOFFICIAL][M11]Cyanogenmod 11.0" the location of the device specific source code is given as https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog..._samsung_s2vep and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common and https://github.com/SamsungBCM-Cyanog...ys2plus-common.
How can I set up a build environment for the I9105P? I already read (an understood) "Learning to build Cyanogenmod" and getting the CM11 sources with repo is no problem, the only problem remaining is how to specify the above mentioned two device specific sources. Can this be done with a local mainfest in the local_manifest directory? If yes, how does this have to look like and what steps are necessary to sync with these two repositories? Are additional steps specific to the I9105P necessary to start a build?
Vibration
So you said the rom is good for daily use... In the main thread I saw numerous comments about vibration being buggy and sometimes non functional. Is this true? The 4.4.2 cm11 by cooldevelopement has fully working vibration. So should I flash cm11 m11 (4.4.4) or 4.4.2? And in the m11 build, are there any other bugs apart from whats listed under "known issues"? Now Android lollipop is just round the corner I hope to have at least the second latest android version :/ 4.1.2 is starting to show it's age when it comes to app compatibility...
Set mobile data limit my phone crash

Hi, thanks for replying! I already know there is a 4.2.2 offical firmware for the s2 plus, thanks. I dont know about you, but when I updated it I experienced major lag issues, even after doing a factory reset, claering cache, reflashing, etc. Its overall a terrible update from the almost bug free 4.1.2. However, 4.1.2 is soon 3 versions behind and I was looking into flashing one of these awesome looking ROMs that are running 4.4. (Just love how AOSP looks :3) However, I dont really know which ROM i should flash
I think I have decided to flash a cm rom, anyways, but which version should I flash? I used cooldevelopement's cm11 4.4.2 rom in the past, which seems mostly bug free. However I switched back to stock 4.1.2 due to the old youtube app versions having the pixelated vid that the 4.2.2 stock rom used to suffer from. Is this 4.4.4 cm Better or worse than the older 4.4.2 cm I installed before? Thanks in advance sorry for a long message
