Hi does any one know if it is possible to flash the new firmware without a computer? Any help is appreciated Thanks!
I assume you're running a custom Rom and only want the firmware and not the whole updated stock software package.
You can flash it via hboot just by downloading the ~24mb package and renaming it with the specific file name (I don't know the exact name so I won't write it at all but it's IMG.ZIP) Then you move it to the root of your *external* sd card, boot into the bootloader and then switch to hboot. The rest will happen automatically with a prompt or two. Check out the pages dated >=9/11/2014 in the firmware thread for directions. The OP says only in fastboot but it can be done in hboot.
P.S.A. always check your md5!

I'm not saying you're wrong, this it's only anecdotal, but I just flashed the firmware only zip via hboot using my 64gb ex-fat formatted card.
I thought the issues with ex-fat support was kernel related and that the firmware only zip has the boot.img removed (among other things)?

That very well could be the problem. I haven't compared it with or without the kernel. An ruu hasn't ran using exfat for me. You wanna see if an ruu attempts to load on your exfat card for me? It's also possible that HTC is updating compatibility in hboot on this phone.

Go to the firmware thread started by tigerstown in the android development subforum in the Verizon specific forum. It's from April but it's been updated to also include the newest update. The link for 4.4.3 firmware takes you to just one file which is the one you want.

One of my friends BRICK his phone and he has no idea how. He has a rooted HTC ONE X on AT&T network with Viper XL (Not even sure what version of the ROM) probably from last december.
It is now stuck on the Booting animation screen and won't get passed that. I am able to access TWRP recovery, but there is not zip files or backups any longer. When I originally flashed this phone for him I had a zip file on the root of the internal SD CARD. It no longer is there and i have not rooted/flashed a phone for almost a year and can't remember.
I tried to fastboot oem lock and it fails (was thinking i could some how get it to boot and install stock jelly bean)
I am able to mount the SD card via TWRP and throw a rom in there via zip, but when i unmount i and go to restore or install i do not see any zip. When I mount again the file i put in the phone no longer exists.
Is there a work around or another way to flash any custom room. I was thinking of CM10 nightly evita... I don't care what rom as long as i can get the phone working again for him.
Is there a way to flash a rom the way we flash boot.img via fastboot where the files can reside on the PC and not the phone? Any assistance/tips would be great. Again i don't care which rom I flash and i have TWRP recovery access. Currently i have CM10 downloaded if hat helps. Thank you in advanced
Is there anything showing up on the sd card at all in TWRP? You could try formatting the sd card in Windows and trying to move a ROM over again.

Im able to see folders and stuff like the typical android folders. So you are saying i should mount the SD card/try to format the sd card via windows then try to put a zip file in there to see if i can access it? Question.. All i would need to do is flash the boot.img first via fastboot then install the zip via twrp right?
Yeah that's what I mean. Most people flash the boot.img afterwards but I believe you can do it before flashing the ROM.

Weird i get the same results as before. I formatted the SD card via fat32, through the zip in there, then I unmount the sd card so i can get back to twrp menus to install and android folders are back, but no zip. I am able to successfully copy the cm10 zip there so i don't get it.
Which version of TWRP are you using? And what process are you following when wiping before the flash?

Sounds similar to what happened to me when i did factory reset in bootloader. Others seem to be able to just format in pc and have it work in recovery but it didn't work for me so i just ruu'd to fix it. Since it might have been awhile since you setup his phone you might as well s-off the phone then run latest jb ruu so you have flash latest cm10.1 nightlies which also no longer needs touchscreen downgrade. Afterwards flash latest twrp 2.6.0.0 and copy rom of choice to sdcard and flash.
How will he s-off if he can't boot into the OS?

That's the problem I downloaded the latest RUU from HTC and I don't have a way to flash it or else I would have. Not sure what else I can do here. Anyone have any ideas what I can try next or is this consider a Permanently bricked phone? If it is then i don't want to spend time on it as I have already dedicated over 2 hrs, thanks.

Yeah that's my best guess. It does seem odd that you can still view the Android folders from within recovery though. When you copy something from your pc across does it definitely succeed? I had a wild thought earlier that maybe it had been formatted as read only or something like that.

Yeah it successfully completes and I am able to see the file there. Even if i remove the USB cable without unmounting and then plug it back the file is still there. It's when I unmount from TWRP when it then vanishs. I found the article from the guy who wrote a tutorial on how to fix corrupted SD cards, but the link is now broken and no longer exists, doh!
Have you tried upgrading to TWRP 2.6? Not sure if it's gonna help, but anything is worth a try at this stage, right?

Sure it's worth a try. How do i upgrade twrp? It's been a while. Is it just flashing via fastboot? BC if it's a zip remember I can't do that.
Download it from here. Put it in your fastboot folder. Issue these fastboot commands:
fastboot flash recovery "recovery.img"
(whatever the exact filename is, minus the talking marks)
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery from your phone screen.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forum, apologize if not.
I'm just a super-noob at this overall cell-phone terminology for Rooting, ROMs and etc.
I want to root my phone and input the new Android Jelly Bean on it (I hope that's possible)
I have no idea where to start. When I search online I found some older threads on how to but I'm not sure if it's still viable.
I'll post my phone info and see where this will go.
HTC Sensation z710e
Android version 2.3.4
Software # 1.45.401.3
When I press "power" + "vol down" I see
-Revolutionary-
Pyramid PVT ship S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.1111
Any help, hopefully step by step help will be most appreciated. Thank you for your patience and if you require more info let me know

probably you aren't rooted
but consider this
every custom rom comes prerooted
so there is no point to root your current one
about md5 sums:
put the zip in your sdcard
navigate with any file manager you have to that zip
tap and hold on it until it pops up a menu
go to properties
somewhere it will say show checksum or calculate checksum
it will show you a row of letters and numbers
then compare it with the one from the download link and see if it matches
note: once you flash the 3.33 universal(ics firmware) your current rom won't boot because it is a gb one
so you have to flash the new rom after upgrading your firmware
and don't forget to backup your current rom just in case
by the way do you have sdk tools installed in your pc?(adb and fastboot files)

Google md5 generator for Windows. Use the first link that you find.
If you have 4ext recovery, you can check md5 there itself.
Happy to help.
Okay, I checked with an MD5 program suggested, and it codes match. Great!
How do I backup my current ROM? I've heard of Clockwork and 4Ext but doesn't it require a Root?
I plan to use to ROM. How do I flash a new ROM?

Hello guys,
I didn't make any save, and it seems I lost my OS by playing with TWRP
Has anyone a save that I could use ?
Or else is there any stock ROM available ?
If some one has any idea how to boot my phone again, I'll be very grateful.

Hello and than you for your reply.
Did you test it ? Cause I downloaded the same file several times from chineese sites and the zip is now working.
At the end I found a smaller rom (HTC_One_E8_m8sw_v1.0) but it's "customized" and "optimized" and I'm not fan of it as I don't know who did what on it.
Anyway, thank you very much, I'm downloading your file and I will try it.

What's the procedure to flash it ?
I tried by using TWRP and Install.
I tried also by renaming the rom 0PAJIMG.zip and use HBOOT, but each time I get an error saying that the image is not valid.
I'll try again with your file.
But if you fear that something will go wrong, then make your own backup using TWRP

After i re-lock my HTC boot loader, i was managed to recover my phone using Stock ROM.
Thanks all.
First off yes RUU zip files are encrypted so you can't open them like normal zip files. Not sure about the OTA for E8 as I don't have one yet. OTAs used to be unencrypted but there was talk HTC may start encrypting them also.
To flash an RUU zip with it on the SD card you probably need similar pre-requisites to the HTC One M7 Dual SIM I am familiar with such as: Locked bootloader, zip on external SD FAT32 formatted, not sure if you need to be S-Off if you are flashing the same region/CID version (i.e. x.xx.1402.x for China Unicom).
You probably can flash the RUU using fastboot: fastboot flash zip name_of_zip.zip
again must be same region RUU unless you are S-Off
I must start a new thread and try and collect the different region variations etc and any RUUs and see if it is possible to swap regions like you can on the HTC One M7 - obviously only between RUUs for the same hardware MID. I understand there are single and dual sim E8s in China (M8Sw and M8St respectively??) and the dual sim is also available in Taiwan and Russia. Hopefully the Russian ROM is x.xx.401.x and is a Europe wide ROM. If the MID is the same on all the handsets in different regions swapping ROMs should be possible.
is that ROM for E8 dual sim M8Sw? thx
sense vzw 5.0.1 firmware is posted..i figure I would share this its a modified hboot.img where I removed the red writing you see on boot..This has been tested an tested both with fastboot an sdcard method. flash the same way you flash firmware

Thank you for this. Just flashed the new vzw firmware and it worked great using SD card method in hboot.
To be clear on the red text removal, I first flash the file linked in the your main firmware thread and then after the firmware is updated I flash the file in this op? Two flashes?

Yes I was going to post a modified firmware with this but dottat hooked me up with firmware link so I just posted a standalone modified hboot
works as described, thanks! Will an official-spoof be coming in the future as well? I like having the **Locked** and Status: official texts on there just in case I find myself in a verizon store in bootloader

How do you flash this mod from the sd card?
What is the benefit to flashing this latest Hboot?

Sorry, I meant the benefit to this latest HBoot version that was released with Lollipop. To me, it seems like there seems to be no functional differences to Hboots. I end up flashing the latest one for the hell of it, but always wondered what improvements it brought.
For whatever reason, I was always afraid to flash this mod, because it was unnecessary. I got tired of that red text and finally flashed it today. I'm not even uncomfortable with fastboot at this point, having flashed a few updated radios and having to reflush them. Oh, not to mention firewater.
That was probably the easiest fastboot flash. And totally worth it to get the red text gone. Thanks!
question
Is it possible to flash this using the sd card metho??

Will be adding files as my work progresses today...
OTA zips
DO NOT USE these unless s-off and willing to risk needing to RUU.

Then simply flash supersu 2.65 attached to this post for root.

Thank you for the quick work, I'm headed off to work or I would be attempting this now. Hopefully when I get back tonight I can update to MM with no problems. Thanks again for this
Possible to get the firmware w/o twrp? I'm running multirom.

Are these incremental updates from 4.17.605.9 or can they be flashed clean? Thanks for getting this up so fast :good:
EDIT: I'm sure they're incremental. Time to RUU...
Just FYI, for anyone who doesn't have an external SD, make sure you don't try to use the Marshmallow recovery to install the update... It's missing the "Apply update from phone storage option". Flash the 5.0.1 recovery found in dottat's RUU, and you'll be able to apply it from the internal phone storage.

Also posted a stock nand you can move into your backup folder and "restore" after flashing the custom firmware zip.
I havent done this in a while, but I am S-off and TWRP, do we start with the "Custom firmware zip that includes all M firmware and TWRP 3.0.0.1 " ? to keep twrp? Or start at the beginning and flash from there?
(I have downloaded all the files. Hoping for MM to work better then lollipop on my M8 before I throw it down the street.)
Used the custom firmware and flashed it through hboot.
Worked like a charm.
Thank you.
Now just need to remove that red text.

Looks like there will be a little bit of debloating necessary in order to make our custom RUU. Also, since this one is meant for s-off users only i'm not going to include stock recovery. I will include TWRP. This will enable users to fix stuff remotely and be ready to flash immediately after.
I am tossing the OTA updater, the amazon crapware, htc speak.
My phone is S-OFF and Rooted with TWRP
How wud you suggest me to proceed with this MM update (files you posted)
My requirement - It should be rooted and no Bloatware at all.

Thanks for your work, dottat. Can't wait to give this a try.
Allright gang.. had to attach the supersu.zip to the OP... this new systemless root will probably take some playing with to make work on an RUU. Since the RUU itself includes TWRP, simply download the supersu.zip attached to the OP and flash it normally in TWRP.
And BTW, you guys got the new emoji.
