I've been trying to flash the V21A baseband for Gingerbread to my LG Thrill for a while now. Before, I was stuck where the LG Mobile Update Tool kept opening, but I fixed that with this thread.
I get to the point where it starts updating. Then it tells me that there is a problem with the communication to the phone (error comes up when I'm precisely at 6%). I've tried putting it in download mode, but it doesn't work, as it can't install the drivers (I've uninstalled them to see if it would install automatically, but it failed).
Any help is appreciated. Is there any other way to put the device in download mode? I've tried removing the battery, and plugging in the cable while holding volume up. I've also tried the video tutorial that was found on the thread, but with no luck. (This is the thread I'm talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236
OK, to be fair I don't know whether to blame LG or Microsoft, but in the middle of upgrading my G2X it looks as if the crappy Windows drivers quit talking to the phone.
The LG software instructed me to do a battery pull and try again, but the result is the phone is now stuck in "S/W Upgrade" display. It won't not respond to the Windows update program. Reinstalling drivers does not help.
It won't boot Android. It's useless.
Rebooting with the sound buttons depressed gives me a black screen, no recovery program.
I have the Android SDK on my Linux laptop, but it doesn't find any USB devices, regardless of whether I do a straight boot or attempt recovery mode.
I have a Linux version of nvflash, which also can't find the device, so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610562 is no help.
What next?
If you have a Windows computer accessible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180331
404 land
Sadly most of the links in that thread point to 404s, so I am not able to find the Windows one-click CWM flasher, but I found this
http://search.4shared.com/postDownload/9h4mmcSp/nvflash-cwm_recovery-5027.html
which is a Linux nvflash binary, script, and CWM package. With enough fiddling around I managed to get Linux to detect the device and nvflash to install Clockwork, so I'm at least that far.
Now to figure out how to get rid of that upgrade screen ....
You ran into the exact same thing I ran into about 6 months, literally to a "T".
The link posted above by another member is what I followed, and it fixed the problem for me.
I hope you are able to find the various non-dead files/links!
Good Luck!
Scott
Here is the One-Click NVFlash for windows:
[RECOVERY][APP] 4-28:One-Click NvFlasher ClockWorkMod Touch 5.8.1.3/5.0.2.0/4.0.1.5
Also the KDZ flasher is probably the only way you're going to get the update finished, and you'll have to do that on XP.
XP
I have an XP laptop, but the KDZ flasher crashes when I try checking the phone configuration, and I have not been able to locate a KDZ file for the GX2. Pretty much everything in that thread resolves to a removed file, or a dead domain.
Oh, here's the V21y kdz.
You shouldn't need to check phone configuration, just open the kdz flasher, select the kdz file, and hit go.
EDIT: Yup, from the other thread:
speedsk8x said:
7) Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe.. Leave the type set to CDMA and the phone mode set to DIAG. DO NOT CLICK ON "Read phone information"
8) Click the folder icon and load the V21E_00.kdz
9) Click launch software update (and pray!)

Partial success
I had partial success with these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
... except that the device drivers were not Win7 compatible and I had to chase down the correct drivers by Googling for Nvidia APX drivers. Once that was done, I was able to nvflash back to a stock system and get out of the LG "S/W Update" bootloader problem.
However, the phone radio isn't working. The cited thread recommends updating using either the KZ loader or the LG Update tool after flashing, so I guess that's my next stop.
Decoding the instructions:
Removing the battery, holding down BOTH volume controls, and plugging in USB puts the phone in to "APX" mode. It will show up as an unknown device in Windows, which allows you to install the device driver. After that the nvflash utility can reflash all the phone's memory.
try this
This happend to me a month ago and took me till 4am to solve...
disclaimer this worked for me but your mileage may vary
First update your lg drivers here
dropbox.com/s/8hibwel69plml4w/LG%20_USB%20_Drivers_All_4.9.7.zip
The only way I found to get it out of the s/w update mode was to use this custom nv flasher that restores it to stock V21E over apx mode
dropbox.com/s/g2eli2mjapfhd0k/G2X_V21E_00_NVFlash.zip
it also includes the nvidia apx drivers
you get to apx mode by taking the battery out and holding both volume buttons down while pluging the usb cable in ... you can let go of the buttons after you see the update screen
after that your phone should boot up normal...skip syncing google account... now with your drivers updated try the lg update tool again... to me the lg tool is the most straight forward way to get the updated baseband... after this works you'll be on stock V21Y with new baseband Mar 11 2012...
now for recovery and backup use this and pick CWM 5.0.2.0
dropbox.com/s/odypked2aqha11i/One-Click-G2x-recovery-flasher-04-28-12.rar
after you have that done you can then flash this stock rooted V21Y via copy it to your sd card
dropbox.com/s/4db1h60uj7gmvpq/p999_2.3.4_v21y_4142012.zip
Thanks...
Thanks for the links! I'll try again with those versions and see if I can get the LG updater (which caused all this trouble in the first place) to work properly. I am still getting failures when it is connecting with the phone.
While I do have nvflash working (on the win7 laptop) and am able to flash CWM and install ROMs, the phone still doesn't seem to know it's a phone. The T-mobile wifi calling app says the SIM is bad.
I flashed Eaglesblood ICS, which was easy and looks like it's a great ROM, but the phone still doesn't work.
Check the "Rom for Recovery" thread in the Dev Section. Follow the instructions. It should get you up and running in no time.

Massive fail...
delete please, I post in wrong thread.
I've looked at the similar threads , to be honest even if one of the suggestions might work , none of the people seem to have the same problem from my understanding.
So apologize ahead of time as i imagine someone has bricked in a similar fashion in some thread buried somewhere.
But have an unlocked P925g lg optimus 3d, got a few days ago.
Last night i rooted just fine , root checker says it was rooted properly.
Then i installed rom manager as i was following manbearpigs post.
When i got to flash clockwork mod , i clicked the button and it looked like it was doing some flashing , but the phone turned off to reboot??
and now when i power on the lg logo appears and then the screen goes funny.
If i try to hold the power down and 3d button , i get a green screen . However i'm very unsure of what to do next.
However when i plug into usb the phone goes black , refuses to turn back on until i take the battery out.
I'd pay someone here if i could , but i'll take any help i can get.
Appreciate any help.
I don't KNOW, but just an idea:
May be your phone is stuck in download mode?
With this latest ICS (original, not ported) my phone shows black screen when in download mode (no message SW UPDATE and something in Korean).
Did you try to plug your phone to PC? Does your comp see it?
From what I read flashing wrong CWM might cause problems...
Also try to read Ressurection thread by xbsa, it helped me couple times
Don't give up!

My computer does see the phone if i take the battery out , and push the volume down while it connects. However when it connects , it cannot find drivers that it find originally.
I'd be happy just to have the phone back to froyo right now , however i am not giving up , just asking for advice. Will reply once i look at the resurrection post you suggested.

just try the LG flash tool to flash without reinstalling drivers, if it doesn't flash you have to uninstall all LG drivers, reboot your computer, install again LG drivers and flash Bin files using Flash tool, you don't have to flash Bin and fls files at the same time, first Bin file, if there is no network close LG flash, open it again and flash Fls at second time to get the right baseband (sometimes it not necessery to flash this fls files)
or just follow this guide
http://www.technopat.net/forum/android-telefonlari/9128-lg-optimus-3d-ultimate-flash-guide.html

To get to download mode you need to keep battery in, remove sim and SD card. Hold vol+ and plug USB cable. You should see message SW UPDATE and some Korean. My phone now doesn't show it, just blank screen. But LG Flash sees it and u can flash bin fls.

Remove drivers and use the LGMobile Support Tool to install the drivers, if your phone is connected it should detect it and finish the install process. I believe the P925G is a Rogers device? You might have to select Rogers as your carrier to find the drivers.

ok so i've deleted all lg related material from my computer, when i connected the phone to the computer with battery in , nothing happens.
Without battery , it detects automatically , then it continues a loop of picking it up and dropping off .
So i moved to my laptop , attempted to follow the guide kupuku posted, however after getting the went logo on the phone , it never gets past that stage no matter what i do.
I've also tried LG support tool , it doesn't detect my phone on either my computer or laptop , even after installing/reinstalling the proper drivers.
LG does have a live chat which isn't open and the phone number can not be reached from my area.. i imagine its a 1800 number for asia or something as i do live in Canada.
My only other choice is to take the phone down to a guy that can get it out of boot loop for close to what i paided for the phone a few days ago.
Least to say , that option is something i want to do , nor can i afford to do.
once again i apprecaite the help that has been given , and for any that will be given.
edit:
Ok so i got lg mobile support to work by doing recovery and entering my imei number. Its currently at 4% but its been close to an hour and a half. Might restart and see if that works , but my phone is doing the logo boot repeat pattern still , even during this update. so not sure what exactly is happening.

Flashing ics the .bin .fls
Check your xda messages. I sent you a PM.
I am not sure what all you did, but if factory hard reset does not fix your issue, you can usually flash a firmware to bring back your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39269819
It could be you just need to flash just a bootloader, but like I say, I am not sure what you did.
EDIT: since you can access twrp, it would be easier to install ICS by installing .zip files from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39130435
Do 1-3... install ICS as in #2 there and boot125 as in step 3, then reboot phone (you will need to copy the files to a micro sd by plugging one into a pc by an adapter). That is one way that would be 'easier' than setting up LG Flash Tool. If TWRP cannot find your external micro sd, you may need to proceed as I mention above.
hard reset

I suspect drivers are not installed correctly. Check part 1 very carefully.
You must install the .bin of v28B first by Flash Tool. That will install the OS. If and when you then decide to install an xbsa rom from TWRP, v8 changes it to v30A. vR3D is v30C (that one requires the large partition v28B).
Factory reset should not have done this to your phone
yeah I think it was my fault

If i send you a video showing what is my problem, you will get any idea of how to repair it? sorry for bad english :silly: heres the video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLbKqzSLB-g
Are you on Windows 7?
I would more than video like to see a screen shot of the drivers in your pc Device Manager (when phone is connected to pc by usb, you hold volume up on phone when you plug it in).
There should be 'omap 4430' in 'other devices' in pc Device Manager. If correctly installed, it should NOT be flashing/blinking on and off. You must use the driver from the wkpark Fastboot package, not the one from the 'omap4flash installer' pack.
There are also two LG drivers that must be installed to pc. And there should be LG Cosmo device appearing in Device Manager someplace also, port set to 41.
I ask because driver install can be tricky or difficult, and confusing when you first do all of that. And, it is very important to have it all correct to flash successfully. Usually it is the problem when flash will not complete or start.
It also adds to difficulty that you must translate the instructions...
just one driver

just lg cosmo driver doesnt work it never upgrade... and yeah i have windows 8 but i did the same on my other computer that has windows 7 and its the same problem
You must be logged on to pc as administrator. Use Windows 7, much easier. I have Win 7 x64.
Read all details carefully. Run everything as admin. ALL antivirus off. You must remove all old LG things from pc before beginning. Reboot pc. Install omap4flash. Restart pc. Install the two provided LG drivers. One of these you must force install. Restart pc.
Connect phone, vol. up to pc (no battery in phone, all of part 1). Link omap driver from Fastboot folder as described. Wait a bit for it to complete. When done here omap4430 will stop blinking.
Disconnect phone from pc. Connect it again, volume up, and LG drivers will install. Wait for it to process and finish. Change port to 41.
If LG drivers do not install when connecting phone the second time, try running omap4flash installer and UNinstall it. Reboot pc. Then try the above again.
Some things, like wkpark bootloader conflict with omap4flash (this is mentioned in the guide) so you may need to try it both ways.
Dude im desesperate

You can use xbsall's guide if you want, but the driver install process is the same.
Karim Kahale has an unbrick guide that uses Smartflash instead. You might find it easier, I do not know. It should be in O3D General section. Just do not "Erase Entire CP" or you will have to recover your IMEI.
Whatever you choose, I would stick with one method and see it through to completion. Trying too many things may just make the problem worse.
OMG!

Thank you so much i Fixed my cellphone !!
but now I have another problem, and is the reason why I did the factory reset is that I have ghost screen and someone told that if I do a factory reset I could solve it. oh and I cant use the camera.
Never had the screen issue so not sure. Camera should be working. Mine does. Use the button on touch screen to take a picture, I think 3D button has a bug in official ICS so it will not take a photo that way. Not sure, I always use touch screen button for that. Or maybe try rebooting phone a couple of times. It is possible I suppose that flash was incomplete or corrupt from incorrect driver install. If you are sure that is all good you might try redownloading the .bin file and flashing again. Beyond that, not sure. Maybe someone else knows???
Hello guys.
My problem is that I was trying to modify my device with this guide > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540163 ([Guides & Tools] Modifying Your Phone) and for that i download this KDZ "V20P_00.kdz - Official AT&T Gingerbread" bc is the only one that is activated, I followed the steps how it says and when my device was already flashed with the LG Flash Tools I tried to turn it on and it didnt work, literally my phone is dead. I tried to put it on S/W mode and my computer does not recognize it, its like i connect and disconnect my phone from the USB port, my pc cant installs the drivers.. So i searched some solution and i found the SmartFlash Tool, I tried with that too and guess what... NOTHING so I need some help in here :s
