Hi folks,
Can anyone help me with this problem...
Nexus S I9020, Android 4.0.4 IMM76D
I'm getting the message "Insufficient storage available" when trying to update a couple of apps (Tapatalk, 4.26MB, and Go Launcher EX, 5.86MB) from the Play Store, yet I have over 350MB of free internal storage. All my apps are installed to internal storage.
I've cleared way more app cache from other apps (Gmail, Maps, Music) than the download sizes for these apps, yet both of these apps stubbornly refuse to update.
Rebooting hasn't worked.
Where on earth is Android running out of storage?
Using ES File Explorer, I don't seem to have a <root>/data/apps folder - <root>/data is empty.
Many thanks.

This is an individual app problem right? just this one app doesn't work, but others do? try a different kernel or a complete wipe, if still doesn't work, try a different version or different rom/ Hope this helps!
Are you using some kind of patching software to remove ads??

When I first got my android and didn't know better this would happen when I downloaded a "free" version of an app from online somewhere. When I learned more and wanted to supoort devs i removed the app and tried to get it ledgit from the market I would get that error. Not implying anything Just my experience.
Try to clear market data if that doesn't work might have to do a full wipe before getting that particular app.

Hi guys,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm not using any patching/ad suppression apps. No tweaks or trick configurations or rooting going on here - stock 4.0.4 and nothing else.
This is something both my wife (she has a NS too but with over 600MB of free internal storage) and I come across regularly when updating apps which I normally work around by clearing the app cache of the three apps I mentioned but this time it was particularly stubborn.
However I set about clearing the cache of all apps that wouldn't need a whole load of configuration afterwards and this then allowed the apps to update, so it does seem to be an storage space issue. But where could the phone possibly be running out of space when, as I say, I have over 350MB of free internal storage?
And... why would Chrome browser create an app cache of over 90MB!
Thanks again.

Solved your problem yet? I was also experienced this and found from another thread in this forum that wiping cache from Recovery Mode solves the problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562962&page=2
No solution. I just go through the hoops every update of clearing the app data of Gmail, Maps, Music and Chrome Beta.
Recovery mode doesn't work for me as I'm running stock Android 4.0.4 with stock recovery and no root. I just get the red triangle when I go into recovery.

i ran into this issue a lot when i had 100mb free, so i just moved most of the apps to usb storage (ie: ones using up 10mb+ of storage), and it seems to have fixed the problem.
i use adaway
Make a wipe dalvik cache, you should resolve.

I've done a search on how to do this but everyone who succeeds is on a custom ROM/bootloader. How do I do this on a stock ROM and stock bootloader?

The only way to wipe dalvik cache without root would be to factory reset your phone as cache and dalvik get cleared during this process.
Stock cache cleaner
I had the same problem; just found this free app that does the app cache wipe on the Play Store:
App Cache Cleaner, free, size 250KB
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.cache&hl=en
Hope that helps.

I don't think it wipes dalvik cache,

Luckypatcher has the option of fixing every time. Need to be routed though.
Rooting would solve all your problems.

I have found that Google play reports insufficient storage even when other errors occur: logcat gives more precise answers.
In any case I found that it was related to lucky patched, that I decided not to use anymore...

I'm using Paranoid Android 2.51 (CM10) Rom... Tried Lucky Patcher, wiped all the **** and it continues .. any solution? Thanks and sry about my english xD
So yeah insufficient storage available when installing anything in Google play..
Wiped cache
Manually deleted dalvik cache. (dont have a recovery and not getting it.)
I have 20 gb on internal storage if the app partition this small this is seriously ****ing stupid.
I don't plan to wipe data nor install any app since I use all I got and don't have that many -.-
It would be a pain in the ass having to each app to external SD to be installing apps... seriously WTF ASUS/Google

Well... I noticed I could install any other app regardless of size file.. went to the folder where apps are being installed and found out there where apps with the same name as what I was trying to install. I had this installed previously and uninstalled it seems the system created these .odex files that for some reason prevent me from installing the app with its name.
so just delete the .Odex and it works...
Oh well hope this help for other people. I was about to Rage RAAAAWRRRR

YES! I looked all over and nobody seemed to have the answer until I found your post! I had the same problem. I could install other apps, but I couldn't install 1 specific app that I had already installed/uninstalled, no matter what my download source for the app was. Then I found where the backup .apk and .odex files were (/data/app/), deleted that .odex file, and it reinstalled perfectly after that. Thanks!!!
can confirm before smashing my phone doing a factory reset i found a .odex file in /data/secureapp/ or some thing like that deleted thia and BINGO WAS HIS NAMEO whoop whoop thx

Environment: Galaxy S3
App: MX player
OS: JB
issue: as title.
but i cannot located the .odex for this app.
could anyone please help?
Okay I'm a newbie, I'm using a Rooted WFS with Rom WildChild 3. (most stable)
I managed to install A2SD and have 1GB internal memory now.
Everything was fine when I started getting the message ' package file invalid ' every time I updated or installed apps, (market/non market.)
Now somehow I realized it's got something to do with Dalvik cache so I cleaned it in recovery but it didn't really help except YouTube getting updated and I still got the same message.
Now the question is, is there any way I can move my cache partition to SD because after I un- installed 10-12 apps it works fine. Plus what's the use of having 1gigs without using it and seeing the delvik cache full after 220mb . Please help geniuses!!!!

If you are able to Wipe data, Might Fix the Problem (if rooted or different ROM wipe in Recovery)
Hey i did not understand what u meant to say. Will you be kind enough to elaborate?
THANKS
Wipeing data with erase everything and start from brand new. Putting Google play store back on there. Go to settings and try either backup and reset or storage and tap factory data reset. If you are rooted or on a different Rom tell me

Or, go to settings/applications and select google play, clear data, cache and reboot. Or simply redownload the app.
He uninstalled Google play he can't get it back unless he factory resets
