I wanna download a rom using the app "Rom installer" according to the app my phone (Verizon HTC one m8) is called htc_m8wl yet for some reason I remember it being m8vzw. To make matters worse, when I went to the cyanogenmod website it just had a general m8 rom with no distinctions for different carriers /variants. Can someone clear this up for me?

M8wlv is verizon
So should I download roms that way?

Cm will run fine on all m8 variants. Cm has built it so they only have one to maintain and not so many different versions.

What rom are you on now? Click on the top entry it will give you all available roms, not all of them but a good amount

The SGS4G isn't a "ROM Manager" device, in the main. Most people download and flash ROMs through recovery. It isn't a complex process.

Perhaps since only MTD ROMs are presently available and you aren't on a Goo-enabled one yet.
Why do you make this process so complicated? You wasted 2 days trying to find out how to download a ROM straight to your phone, while you can just download one straight from your computer and put it in your SD Card.
You can also download ROMs right to your phone if you have a browser installed that has a desktop mode. Chrome for android works well. I download ROMs all the time using XDA and the stock ICS browser.

Can i use any costom rom that support 4.0.4?or the rom depends on the phone? My phone was cherry mobile flare.

The ROMs you can use depend on your phone, not on the ROM currently in use (your default OS is just the "stock" ROM).
Just make absolutely sure the ROM you use is for your exact phone model or you can brick it.

I to would also like to know this answer. what it sounds like to me is that we need the right APN's to get data voice sms and what not to work. so it should be OK to flash any rom but if it works 100% I don't know. But I also would like to know if its OK to flash any kernel that we want. Lets just hope some that knows more then me can help us both out
Hello, first post in xda, but I'm familiar with Android. A ROM will not flash your radio. Also, the APN settings usually set themselves when you swap Sim cards.

I'm new to this so I don't actually know where this question would fall under .
But I was just wondering what would happen if I installed a custom ROM over a stock rom

the stock rom is gone forever (as far as being on the phone) and the custom rom is your new software,
I understand that part. However I was just wondering if it would brick the device if I did that

Save to assume there is no flashable modern? Is it possible that my modern could not be working great due to a bad flash, on the moar ROM?
