[Q] SMS notification with Google Hangouts - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm using Google Hangouts for sending SMS.
When I receive a text message, it uses the system default notification sound (which for me is Pollux), not the one I choose...
In Hangouts settings, under notifications, this is displayed :
Default ringtone (Pyxis)
This is my phone ringtone, not my default notification sound !
If I touch the setting to change it, the sound I choose is selected, which is Hangouts Message... But when I receive an SMS, it is Pollux that is played...
I cleared data and cache of Hangouts and this doesn't change a thing.
Anybody got a clue ?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I found the answer to my problem. Here it is :
For the first time with this phone, I'm using Cyanogenmod's profiles... and by default, it overrides SMS notifications. I just configured my profiles so my notifications were not overridden and everything works normally !
The displayed notification ringtone is still wrong, but that is cosmetic and I'm OK with it...
EDIT2 :
I need more coffee - the default is NOT to override SMS notifications... I will redo my profiles

[Q] how to change/manage notification & messages sounds

Hi.
I have big problem with my new samsung galaxy s.
v 2.1 installed and handcent sms
in hancent sms I have customized my sms sound - simple mp3 file. It plays only when the new message comes from one person. When I receive sms from unknown number (out of contacts), phone plays the default notification sound.
Is it possible to set one default sound for all incoming text messages? How to correctly manage all the sounds (including the calendar reminder/notification) sound?
I've read that in case of calendar sounds problem it is a big issue.. is it ?
-----------
I have found how to set default ring/sound for sms (in handcent sms settings). I think the notification sound has self changed while I was trying to change sounds in android default sound settings menu.
The question about one sound/ring-tone management software stays. It is annoying that in stock phone software is no possibility to manage normal settings....

[Q] How to Vary Your Notifications sounds?

The same notification sound is usually played for all incoming messages on Android by default.I want a different sound for different notification .
Can you change the notification sound for New Voicemail, New Text Message, New Mail etc.........and can you change the shut down sound
To change the text notification, go into the Messaging app, hit Menu-Settings, and then change the ringtone. The same can happen for the Mail, Gmail, and Voicemail apps. You just have to go into that app to change the sound for that app.

Priority Mode, messages won't sound?

Hey ya's. I'm using an N5 with stock 5.01, rooted with twrp. During the night I used to use a tasker profile for when sleeping that did pretty much what priority Mode does by allowing my started contacts calls and messages to get through and alert me. With priority Mode now available, I use tasker to just trigger that instead.
But I'm having an issue with my messages. I use Handcent as my default messaging app and when I get an sms from a starred contact when in priority Mode it does not sound. I installed google messenger to check and when it's set to default messaging app I get the notification since no issues. Switch back to Handcent and no luck again.
I use Handcent because I like the pop up alert in it, but more so because I can schedule sms messages for a particular time, which is a feature I do use a bit. So if rather not change from it if I can help it.
Just wondering if anyone knows why the alert doesn't sound in Handcent during priority Mode, and if there's a work around?
Something to try:
Settings > Sound & notification > App Notifications > Handcent > Enable Priority
You bloody champion! Seems that was it. Didn't even notice that setting was there. Rippa!
This setting allows all notifications to come through, even from non-starred contacts.

How to disable email vibrate notification?

Is it possible to disable the vibrate notification when receiving e-mails (using the stock e-mail app)? I want the visual icon to show up in the notification bar with no sound, just NOT vibrate. I want to keep the vibrate notifications for MMS, calls, etc..just not e-mails. This seems like a simple request but I can't seem to figure it out.
If its anything like the Gmail app then open up settings, inside settings, click on your Address [email protected], Then its inside there...
( I don't use the email app, sorry.. just a thought )
Settings --> General --> Notifications --> Select corresponding account --> UNcheck "Vibration" (unchecked by default for me)

Thanks for your response. The "vibration" option is grey so I can't change it. It is off by default anyways, but it still vibrates.
This is driving me crazy. Any recommendations for a different email app?
Open email. Touch 3 dots in upper right hand corner. Touch settings. Open notifications. Select email account . Turn off vibration.

If you're like me and always keep your phone on vibrate, this is actually a far more annoying issue than you would imagine. (The same fix can be used for Google Hangouts.)
If vibrate is not currently enabled under notifications and your phone keeps vibrating at you, it's actually because of your notification sound. If you change the notification sound to "Silent", your phone will no longer vibrate.

Yes, I always keep my phone on vibrate. If I switch it to silent, wouldn't that disable the vibrate from sms and calls?
No, those will still vibrate. You don't want to switch the ring tone settings, just the notification sound for your email. Go into settings, notifications, and then for the notification sound select "Silent".

SMS ringtone not working

So I set my defaut sms app not to be system messanger but google/android messanger app.
In sound settings, I have sms ringtone set to play specific tone and notification sound to play something else. But when I receive a message, my phone does not play sms ringtone but it plays notification sound tone.
What do I need to do to make sms notifications play sms tone instead of default notification sound tone?
Anyone?
Anyone going twice?
You're not using Oneplus sms app...and googles app is not system app... that's why your system thinks that its just another notification from normal app and not sms sound...
