I have heard that folks are running (rooted?) Note 3's and Galaxy S5s with a 128GB micro SD card. Samsung marketing says 64GB micro SD for the Note 4 and Edge - but WILL they run the 128GB micro SDs?
My 128GB micro sd card worked fine in my Note 3 before I rooted it.
Has anyone got a 128GB Samsung SD card to work on their device?
Seems like the talk is that only max 64GB. Maybe a fix is available for rooted devices.

I am using 128GB card with my note edge [unrooted official] & used the same card previously with Xperia Z1 too.. no issues.
Samsung put only what is guaranteed to work, not sure why they didn't say the 128gb was compatible as theoretically you should be able to use up to a 2Tb micro sd card, if they went up that high, as that is the SDXC standard( or so I read somewhere)....

I believe I had read that the Snapdragon variants supported 128GB, while Exynos only supports 64GB. Sorry I can't confirm that
I'm using my 128 gig card out of my rooted note 3 I'm my verizon unrooted edge and is working just fine.

i think the data-sheet over at samsung.com states, that micro-SD's up to 64 GB are supported.
i guess that some 128GB cards might work, but aren't officially supported.

I think all the devices that Samsung has produced all stated 32GB was max, but it turned out 64GB worked too. Let's hope that logic still holds when the 128GB is released!

I'm not sure about any FAT32 limitations other than 4GB file size limit, but as long as the S3 supports microsdxc (which it does since it supports 64gb cards), it should be able to support any sdcard size.
I myself have a 64gb microsdxc card and have done a lot of research.
TL;DR: Galaxy S3 supports any size microsdxc card.

I'm not sure when we'll see 128gb microsd cards but I heard that sandisk developed the NAND. Hopefully Android 4.1 supports exFat (or does it already?) so we can actually utilize cards that big. The main reason to use a card that big would be for storing movies and TV shows, but any files over 4gb would have to be broken up first which is a PITA to do.

This may seem like a random question, but why are 64Gb Micro SD cards cheaper than 64Gb SSD's. Are they not both flash? Does it have do do with the read/write speeds?

I wish 64GB micro SD cards were cheaper than 64 GB SDDs
on amazon 64GB SSD start from $60, 64GB micro SD cards start at $70
galaxy s3 on 128 gb
it is possible in galaxy s3.. with 64gb internal memory and support of 64gb on external memory.. but i dont know how much it will slow down the phone..
would recommend to use class 4,6 or even higher ones of mini sd card available for better results

The Galaxy S III is stated to support up to 64GB currently, as that is the largest sized card out so far under the MicroSDXC banner. Once the 128GB cards are released, it SHOULD support those unless for some reason it has an artificial restriction imposed on it.
The other thing is, once the cards DO come out, people like NZTechfreak will check it out for us anyway. The cards should hopefully start to be released in a few more months. Definately agree on the speed class advice, go with a minimum of class 6 or 8, anything slower will be painful for sizes above 32GB.

So reading that I would infer yes the 64GB or some of them could work in the G3 but may not work above that without formatting to fat 32, if I read it right that is

FAT32 supports 2TB volume size w/ 4GB-1B file size constraints.
exFAT supports 64ZiB volume size w/ 16EiB file size constraints.
I use exFAT, which the S3 supports, owing to my 1080p MP4s taking in excess of 5GB.
Since the S3 can use exFAT, we are well future-proofed to the extent of the microsdxc format I imagine.

Actually they state 64GB SDHC not SDXC. An many are now finding out they are missing files (songs) when they leave it ExFat. So chances are it may not support larger than 64GB cards. I to have a 64GB SDXC card that I have formatted with my computer to Fat32.
This is according to my manual (Canadian/American version). The European may be different.
By the time 128GB cards are released and actually at a mass production price, people will be talking Galaxy S4.
Hmm 128gb sd card seems like ALOT. I have a 32gb with my GS3, so 48gb in total. I have alot of movies,videos,pictures,etc. and I still have about 12gb left.

I'm pretty sure SSDs have more sophisticated controllers and such. Though according to Google, SanDisk's 64GB MicroSDXC card is on average almost the same price as the 64GB SSDs here in the UK (£40-50). Also, even the fastest MicroSDs can only support about tenth of the transfer rate of an SSD (although they are still pretty fast... the 64GB card is supposedly capable of up to 30MB/s, which is impressive).

You might not be too far off actually. I mean, folks getting excited about the new 5" display exynos 5 GS4 will be in full rumor mill mode around what, March? Granted it won't be released till summertime, but I'd armchair guess we'll see 128Gb cards pop up at the beginning of the year. They'll be $200 though lol.

The 128GB ones out now themselves are not only slow but are low grade TLC (much lower life/ ~500-1000 writes per cell lifespan) ones, the faster and more durable MLC (~2,500-3,000 writes per cell lifespan) based Sandisk Extreme/Pro and Samsung PRO are only available in 64GB max.
Also no 256GB is out... if it were it would work.

The best microSD Cards on the market are those made by Sandisk and Samsung. Either of those brand will work perfectly with the N910C. I have a N910C with a 32GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD Card, which I will be upgrading to a 128GB card when I find one in my local high street retailer.
I would highly recommend sticking to Samsung cards in a Samsung device. I know there is a lot of debate about this, but from my personal experience, I have had no less than 4 Sandisk 64Gb cards fail in various Samsung devices (phones and tablets), but I have never had a Samsung card fail. Currently I am using a Samsung 64Gb PRO, but the EVO should be fine too. Hoping to get a 128Gb PRO once the prices come down a little more.
Tested to Sandisk 200gb SD card on my Note 4 910A.

I've been using this one pretty heavily in my N910C ever since I own it. Never have a problem whatsoever. Ultra reliable. Samsung storage yields the highest MTBFs in the field. Probably removed planned obsolence from the equation entirely, since they know that when 4 billion humans will want to buy their storage that will be more than enough to break-even and keep in business..

Buy samsung ones. I had a 32GB Sandisk Extreme, and it died within 1 month in Note 4.
I have sandisk ultra 64gb before, it's work perfectly on my s4.. but after a few month (almost full) it's became slow n sometimes stuck when transferring file from internal to external card, now I'm using galaxy note 4 SM-N910H and I'm using Samsung EVO+ 128GB, write speed always stable on 20mbps.. expect if I copying a lot of small file (like game data) it will be slow, but until now I have no problem with my card, so if u have samsung device why didn't you use the same brand with your device?
for me.. take the 128GB EVO+
(I wanna have the 256GB EVO+ but the price too high for now, so I'm choosing the 128gb for now)

I love sandisk. have never had a problem with them. I bought a 128 gb from bb for 30 bucks. not bad . hopefully you find something as good
I have a "SanDisk 128GB microSDXC Memory Card Ultra Class 10"(80mbps read), it works great but I feel like it is tougher on the battery life every since I have my samsung 64gb replaced.
I've installed a Samsung 128GB Evo+ (faster than Evo, slower than Pro) in my N910V. When on Marshmallow, I looked at integrating it as a part of built-in memory, and the OS (CM13) complained that it was a bit too slow for that. I decided not to integrate. not so much for speed as I wanted to be able to switch ROMs and wasn't sure how that'd be with an integrated SD card. It's been fine (using it to store music, audiobooks, videos, ebooks, CoPilot maps, TiBackup backups and Nandroid backups)

Ok I ordered a 200gb microSDXC card and it works fine on 5.1.1 but it had problems on CM14 and CM13.
I've been running a 200gb in cm13 for about a year or two on multiple phones with no issues, s5 mini being one of them. what is the problem its having?

Well, SDXC goes from 32Gb to 2TB, so even if a 2TB SDCard doesn't exist yet, when it will, you will be able to put it in your S5 mini

Samsung has some information showing official maximum capacities, but I guess it is just how much they give support for. Maybe the firmware limits the capacity in some way? I wouldn't see why tho, are you sure that every SDXC slot can read 2TB?
I just got a s7 (I know in late) and I love it so far.. BUT. I've been using 3 cheap 128gb SD cards in my old devices (tab 12, note 4, s5) and while the work flawless I the old devices, they don't work I the s7.
The s7 can read anything that was in the cards, but as soon as I start writing to the 128gb cards everything new is error ridden.
The s7 works fine with a older 64gb card.
Anyone have issues with large cards?
