Hi,
I got my Nexus 5 back in January 2014. Until last month I've been running 4.4.2 stock ROM rooted with Franco kernel (r58) and Xposed installed. My signal was fine.
Last month I did a complete fresh reinstall of the OS and updated to 4.4.4 and Franco kernel r62 (Xposed also reinstalled). Ever since my phone experiences random signal drops when the screen is off. I use Llama to notify me when this happens (LED notification and sound). It appears that the signal can be lost for over 2 minutes. At such times I have tried to call my phone and indeed I get a message that the phone is out of reach. When I turn on the screen I see an empty triangle, but after 2-10 seconds the bars start to appear again, sometimes even the full number of bars. And my connection is back as it should be. This drops happen a couple of times a day.
I have flashed the 4.4.1 radio (M8974A-1.0.25.0.23) because this radio did not give me any problems when I was on 4.4.2 (as far as I know the radio did not change from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2), but the signal drops keep occurring.
I use Intelli3G but disabling this app does not fix the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions? Given the symptoms and my history with this phone I do not think it is a carrier issue.

Problem:
Unreproducible, but consistent 3-5% per hour battery drain. Happens at least a couple times a week. As such, I can rarely get more than 48 hours uptime without seeing it.
Cause:
Unsure of the culprit, I suspect it is the modem. Not sure if it's a software or hardware problem.
Steps to reproduce:
Be lucky? I live in an area with no very little to no data service (cell signal is passable), and I'm on wifi at home. I'm not sure what triggers the battery drain. Maybe it's disconnecting from wifi and struggling to obtain a mobile data connection, doing that a few times is triggering it? Sometimes I can go 72 hours without seeing it, sometimes 12 hours. I do know that it happens much less frequently when I'm on wifi at home, as opposed to mobile data at work. I'll look at my phone, and I'm at 75%, when I should be at 95%+. Battery stats and BBS have nothing to say on the issue.
Fix
Reboot the device. It seems that toggling airplane mode also stops it.
Reproduced on:
Stock ROM 4.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2
Stock kernel, Franco kernel
Baseband 4.4, 4.4.1 (think that's .17, and .23 respectively).
Has anyone else seen this before?
Ever since I got Lollipop on my Nexus 5, I have had major wifi issues. The wifi will randomly drop and only come back if i switch wifi on and off. Over the course of 2+ months, this has gotten increasingly aggravating. This happens both at work and at home.
Symptoms: while using my phone, all of a sudden the network stops working. This can be in the form of games, web browsing, or anything else. All of a sudden there is just a network timeout. If I disable wifi, the cellular network has always worked fine (so long as I have reception of course).
Things I have tried:
1. Flashing stock with a full wipe
2. Flashing a CM12 nightly with a full wipe - I just tried CM12 in the hopes that they may have had some form of bugfix. I had the same issues.
3. Setting the phone to 2.4ghz only.
4. Disabling PMF setting in WIFI config file.
5. Downgraded to Kitkat. I just flashed CM11. I havent used it too much yet but it seems like it is having the same issue.
I am at my wit's end. Is there anything else I can try? Please help!
At first CM11 seemed to help, but after using it for longer it is exhibiting the same WIFI issues. Any suggestions? My phone is quickly approaching paperweight territory...
So recently I've been having a lot of issues with my cell reception. Randomly during the day I would completely lose my reception. However the icon in the status bar will show I got a full connection. Mobile data works. But I will be unable to receive / make calls or text messages. A reboot will fix this. I've had this issue ever since an ota update from sultanrom. I've since tried flashing the stock ROM back but it happens on there as well. I'm currently on the latest sultan mm version. But this used to happen on his lollipop version as well It mostly seems to happen when charging my phone. I've tried different firmwares and modems but the issue is still there. This is a big problem because I've gone for 10+ hours several times without any cell reception thinking all was fine because the status bar shows a full connection. Has anyone else had this issue? I really need to get this sorted as it makes my phone unable to do the most basic things a phone should be doing.
Hi,
my phone lately shows an high battery drain, random reboots and signal losses.
Aside from supersu and adaway everything is stock. last-kmsg shows "modem_err"
A few days ago I updated my phone from MMB29V to MOB30H, right after this I went on holiday. (left country)
While being there everything worked fine.
But right after I comeback home the phone started to act strange (see title).
Anyone an idea what could cause the behaviour?
Maybe the update? And I didn't noticed it in holiday because of my disabled data connection?
I tried:
a full wipe, reflash of stock image
flash of old radio
looked out for wake locks (there are non)
using phone without apps (only stock)
Might flashing old bootloader/kernel help?
Maybe interesting:
My provider (Klarmobil (T-Mobile DE third-party)) tends to switch my network mode between 3G and HSPA,
from what I heard and see this depends on my data usage. (HSPA while surfing, 3G while idling). I have the "feeling"
it disconnects when it tries to switch.
Thanks for your help!
Edit:
Added another set of logfiles, showing a "signal-loss", it got so far to ask for my pin again.
Sadly errors still keep happening. I tried the march build and also a custom kernel, no change :crying:
So after updating to Marshmallow (PCA, then to PE1, then back to PCA to use the deodexed rom) after a week or so after installation the issue that i wrote out in the title starts occuring. It seems the phone is trying to ping my location every 15 seconds but ive shut off all of the location settings i could find in the settings app and the ones shown in the setup wizard but it still occurs. On LTE or 3G it is fine and battery life isnt dropping out of orbit but only on wifi, when the lte icon usually goes away until i turn off wifi or walk far enough away from any access point im connected to. Has Anyone else experieced this?
Same issue
I've got a Samsung galaxy S5 as well and I've got similar behaviour but I'm my case happens every 8 seconds.
While I'm using my Wi-Fi connection as usual each 8 seconds the LTE or 3G icon appears and half second later disappear again.
I don't understand why and if I can change this behaviour
Regards
have you tried separately flashing a compatible kernel? it sounds like it is caused by the hardware not liking the wifi radio.
