Note Edge & Galaxy VR (Virtual Reality) Compatibility? - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the Note Edge also compatible with the Galaxy VR? or ONLY the Note 4?
UPDATE:
Another member ohbreeeezy... mentioned this link:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_ifa_2014-review-1126.php
-> The Gear VR kit, based on the Oculus technology, presents an entirely new way for you to use your smartphone. Just pair with your Note 4 (it's the only compatible device for now) and enter the VR world, armed with a touchpad, keys and sensors for making your way around. We'll get into the details shortly.
so... apparently no compatibility (yet) Hope that .1 of main screen lost isn't a real issue with the VR... Maype a simple patch should fix this... hopefully Samsung will add the Edge later on.

how would it not work? The phone dimensions are the same... just the screen is a little different. I'm really annoyed that they would announce this flagship phone and not give full support for the new wearables also announced on the same date. I wanted the edge hands down, but because of this one simple fact i'm considering the note 4 instead. do you guys think they will support the edge on vr?

I went with the Note 4 instead of the Edge because of the VR thing. Real shame.

Any news on availability?
Will this phone have a screen protector? how should it applied to a curved screen? and most importantly will it get an AOSP Rom? of course a proper which uses the curved screen?
I'm teetering back and forth on what to get. I'll need to see some reviews before I can make an informed decision. With that being said I'm leaning towards the Note 4 at the moment.
I want it badly !!
Worst information, that Edge will be available only in several markets. I've read on sammobile about Singapour, Korea, US, Spain and Australia.
It will be available in the US an all major carriers.
And I'm probably going to get it as long as developer support is there. Even if it's not as prevalent as established devices.
I'm a cutting edge kind of guy and this is definitely my style.
I've been waiting for this device every since the first picture was released but after finding out VR only works with the Note 4, Edge isn't for me anymore.

Me too. I am sure there will be some good pre-launch deals but I would like to get my hands on one first to see if it's suitable, if not definitely the Note 4... but when?!!
I'm still on my Note II and I don't see any good reason to go for the Note 4, but I'd definitely consider the edge simply for it's uniqueness.
But ONLY if it gets rooted and ROM'd.
Speaking of which, someone please tell me the makers of DN3 are working on porting the Note 4's Touchwiz back to Note II! :fingers-crossed:

I think I want the edge too. If nothing else if development is not there, in 6 months I'll just get something else or just live with stock . It just seems too "cutting edge" to pass up. Note 4 is great but a little something different in form would be nice for a change.
I am really leaning towards the Edge, it just looks so cool (yes I'm shallow) and 64gb memory doesn't hurt. I'm going to wait until I can play with both phones, though. I'm not in a big hurry, my Note 2 is still going strong. Rather take some time to make my choice.
I want one badly but I'm afraid Samsung won't release a Dev. Edition Edge for us Verizon guys.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to choose between a Dev. Edition Note 4 or a locked Note Edge :crying:
I want one to but it's being said around other sites that it going to cost us almost a $1000.00. What are your thoughts.
Potentially Unique and Useful Device
I too have a Note II and it is great device. I'll probably get an Edge on Sprint contract if the price is not ridiculous. If it is, I'll probably seriously consider the IPhone 6 Phablet. The Edge has the opportunity to be a truly unique device with the help of XDA Developers.
I definitely will buy one, it s soooo sexy!!
Inviato dal mio SM-N9005 utilizzando Tapatalk
I'm definitely buying one BUT I won't get one of the first shipment of orders, I'll wait until the xda development is established because I already know that the AT&T version will have a locked bootloader.

I love the new technology. I to wonder how much support there will be for the device The fact that the powerful specs of the Note 4 are under the hood are even a more compelling reason to grab this device.
I think the Note Edge will be great, but theoretically it should slightly underperform compared with the Note 4 because a single processor will be powering 2 screens.
I will most likely buy this device... (I am a hardcore **** Galaxy Note Fan... but... but...
I will buy the Galaxy Note 4 first for sure (first day it hits the store, without doubt... same as I did with Note 2 & Note 3... got Note 1 after about 2 months it was released)... (T-Mo Version) because it will most likely have root, unlocked bootloader and all the things we all love... and... then when the Edge comes... I will wait a week or 2... as soon as I see that it can be rooted and some dev support... I will end up buying this one too... have them both coexist for a month more or less and see how things go with each device... (development support, roms, etc...) and after a month maybe 2... will finally decide who is the lucky winner... (the looser... I will sell on ebay)
that's my story...
after seeing a video review of the Note Edge, i'm not so sure about it anymore for one main reason - one handed use. because of the screen on the right side, apparently its very difficult to use with your right hand without accidentally activating and/or pressing something on that screen. I'm a heavy one-handed/right-handed user on all my phones and this is a big deal.
I guess I'll have to get used to using both hands (of course its required when it comes to using the stylus)

I was nervous at first because on first attempt it was unusable. It was incredibly "jerky"... So I Odin to stock...perfect ever since. Even rooted and installed latest Breakdown. It's pretty damn amazing
Anyone who jumps, bought this? I can't justify buying it if I will just have to get rid of it when I get a new note device....damn you samsung for making it device specific.

It's hard to know if it'll be future compatible with S7 or Note 6 as those devices don't actually exist in a format we can be sure of. Only rumors.
That being said, this VR supports far more than the One device Innovator edition so unless they change port layout or physical size, there's no reason why it couldn't work.

The one made specifically for the note 4...does not work with anything else but the note 4. Same justification was used with that as well lol. But I don't want to steal this thread

Yeah, I covered that.
"this VR supports far more than the One device Innovator edition"
There were multiple "one device" Innovator editions, but the Consumer version supports Note5, S6, S6 edge and S6 edge+, and cheaper. It has multiple size settings, which is a GREAT sign for possible future compatibility.
It's a pretty decent device and well worth it at the price.
Just because you'll jump in the future, doesn't mean it's not worth it right now.

It's definitely there. It bothers some folks, not others. Doesn't bother me much, I got used to it.
On a side note:
Some of the apps (same ones from Innovator edition) still give me motion sickness. I guess I'm just doomed to never run those apps.
You can tell it's there. I still love it though. Netflix is awesome using it. Watched a video yesterday of the blue angels flying at was amazing.
Edit. VR fine. It was the Arter kernel on my N5 Loco rom. Switched kernels to skyhigh and works perfect although a few random reboots on phone when using but not many. It's tolerable until an update comes out. But for now I'm running stock everything unrooted because the VR rocks that way and I've been showing it to many peeps over Christmas. Tomorrow I'll re-rom and kernel it back.
bump any updates on this?
The only rom/kernel that works with VR is Stock Modified. However I found that it causes issues with bluetooth and after a while my moto 360 stops getting notifications.
Wish roms could support VR, would make things easier
Darthstalker's Rom seems to work well with the latest Sky High
I've hard Breakdown also works, but haven't tested it.. Hopefully Tek is working on it for his Rom, but I doubt it.
Is there a way to use S4 with this device?

Samsung S2 Classic 4g?

I am very seriously considering getting a S2 Classic 4g for fathers day. I currently use a Note 3 but will be pre-ordering the Note 6 as soon as it is available. If you have the S2 4G, how do you like it?
Could you please provide a link to the app store? I would like to see what type of app that are now available. I like the idea of making a quick phone call straight from the watch. Is there a navigation app that works with the watch yet? Will it vibrate on your wrist when a turn or exit is coming up? Can you use samsung pay from the watch?
Thanks for any advice
I have the Verizon sport version. It is nice to know it will still work if I leave my phone at home.
I don't think you can look at the app store without a watch paired. I can look up an app if you want.
I've seen a few navigation apps but they require you watch be connected via Bluetooth, but otherwise I believe they do want you want.
There is no samsung pay yet, but it's supposed to be released in 2016.

In this case, I think it was great advice since I remarked in the original thread that i was going to be getting a Note 6 when it becomes available. I think I will wait for the S3 since I will have the newest samsung phone available when the S3 comes out. I would think the note 6 and the S3 will work together much better than the note 3 would with the S2.

I'd think the note 6 will work fine with the Gear S2 since the S2 is the latest at the time the note 6 is released. Not only that but no one knows when or if the gear S3 will be released, what it will look like, or what specs it will have. Waiting for a release is a huge gamble, waiting for a device that may or may not be released is an even larger gamble.

Get Galaxy S7 now OR Wait for the Galaxy S8

Hi guys,
I was wondering, should I buy the Galaxy S7 now or should I wait until March for the Galaxy S8 ?
* Pros about changing now :
- To me the S7 is the best 2016 android phone.
- I have an old Galaxy Alpha, still pretty decent but suffers a bit due to the age (laggy sometimes). He is still running the Kitkat official ROM since Lollipop was garbage on him.
- I got this mobile for 2 years now. I'm getting sick of it.
* Pros about waiting until the release of the S8:
- The recent rumours about the Galaxy S8 are amazing (specs, innovations).
- The S8 will be a monster, if I get the S7 now and 4 months later the S8 "destroys" him in everything, I will be disapointed
1- Should I wait quietly until the release of the Galaxy S8 or buy a Galaxy S7 today ?
2- How much can I sell the Galaxy S7 when the Galaxy S8 will be out ?
One solution could be : to get the S7 now, then selling it in order to buy the S8.. But I don't want to loose much money by doing this....
In my country I can get a S7 for 500-550€ now, I hope i could sell 400€ in March, so I can purchase the S8.
Have a nice day, and thanks for answering !
PS : Sorry for my english boyz !
Would you pay 400€ for a Galaxy S7, which is older than five months, when there is a Galaxy S8?

Me no, but not everybody is geeky like me, always looking for the last tech, I know a bunch of people wich would buy an S7 at 400€ rather than S8 at ~800€ .
You're in the same situation that i'm in, but dude just wait - The Galaxy S8 not that too far away from us, we started to get a huge amount of rumors + That phone going to be a beast! .. so if you want to feel a _new phone_ *wait*.

I still let the post open, keep voting guys, might be helpful for others !
S8 might be delayed while they investigate the N7 battery problems, they wouldn't want it happening again
i would prefer to go with S7.
S8 may be a monster, but how much power i may need in real life?
more over S7 is a proven device (no battery fire!!)with good bargain deal.

Maybe but I really don't think they would miss the Mobile World Congress (27 Feb - 2 March) to present their new phone (as usual). To me, in the worst scenario, the S8 will be avaible for us by the end of March.
At the best, around mid March.

Possible, but hoping it will happen doesn't necessarily make it true, if what I've been reading is true, Samsung still don't know the cause of the battery problems, so they're not gonna manufacture millions more devices that might have the same fault
Unless they get to the bottom of it soon, and are 110% sure it's fixed, expect delays

Don't worry mate, I will purchase a Galaxy. The main question was about waiting or not. S7 now or S8 later ? Like selling the S7 to get S8 without loosing / wasting too much money (by being impatient xD)
Well it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it. The s7 is cheap now and the s8 is still months away because it will come out in march 2017 and they you will pay a premium price. So if i was you i would go for the s7 then get the s8 around this time next year when its came down in price.

Wait and save up, then you have more cash for phone accessories.
Thanks for your answer guys !
The poll is tied ! 4 votes to buy now - 4 votes to wait xD
Had to tie the poll up again at 5 to 5, because I agree that you should get the S7 now. I got my S7 about a month after launch and it has been incredibly solid, plus it had already dropped $100 from the launch price in that month. I love bleeding edge tech as well and I love to tinker, but with the amount we rely on our phones I personally like to grab something new that has already been proven reliable with an established development community. The S7 fit that bill perfectly within a month of release. After the Note fiasco and the ever increasing push for more locked down devices, the S8 is a big unknown right now as for the direction Samsung will go with it. With the success of the S7, I would guess that the resale value once the S8 is out will be relatively solid in comparison to the last couple phones in the S series. Just my two cents on the matter, but when it comes to our gadget obsessions, we're all different. Best of luck deciding!

I had similar choice to make.
I bought a second hand S7 and will probably get new S8 when out.
Wasn't any great deals for new S7 and the Pixel looks to be bad value so that's why I went a second hand S7.
I already have an S6 so had less incentive to upgrade than you do with a Galaxy Ace.

It is for android wear watches so doesn't do much for gear, it only enables replying to the messages even if you are not using samsung's message app. You can just use SMSGear instead of doing this actually. https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/themes/opensource-sms-application-gear-s3-t3557263

I will probably skip the Samsung watch and grab a wear watch instead like the Lg Style. After some reading Samsung watches are great if you have a Samsung phone, but if you do not then it's hit or miss with most apps and some don't work at all. And of course the apps I use are the ones that apparently don't work at all with Samsung. Shame really because I think the Samsung watch looks almost like the $1000 Tag Heuer smart watch. If they would have only used wear software instead of there own.

(I'm not sure where you're at but) Check Best Buy. The Samsung Rep told me you can return the S3 within a 15-day period after buying. I asked the rep at a Best Buy (at a location with a Samsung gallery -- not all locations have) to take the S3 out of Store Demo Mode so I can pair it with my old Galaxy Note 2 but he said he can't. He mentioned I can buy and return it within 15 days if I'm not happy with it. If you're going to do this, see if you can involve a manager. Sometimes reps just say whatever they want to make a sale. But who knows. He could be telling the truth.

Best buy's return policy is 15 days unless otherwise stated. The only reason I know that is they will price match anything you buy within the return period as well. I had bought a TV and on the 15th day it dropped by about $500. Called them up and they refunded that amount. The info on price matching and return policy can be found easily on their website.
So I checked out the S3 at T-Mobile store. Never mind its way to big and heavy. Also it didn't work with half the stuff I wanted to do on my Pixel. I think this watch is great if you have a Samsung phone, but if it's a non Samsung phone then expect half the stuff not to work right. I think I will pick up the new LG Sport watch instead...

If you're concerned about sizes, I think the LG Sport Watch is bigger but along with its size, you get more screen and a higher resolution. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room to improve on battery life for the LG even for its bigger size. I'm on the morning of Day 3 and I still have 62% battery power (granted I turn it off after 9pm and turn it back on at 6am). Lots of trade-offs. But I agree. You get a better experience with the Gear S3 if you have a Galaxy phone. Have you seen this article? http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-watch-sport-vs-samsung-gear-s3
EDIT: One of the best things I love about the S3 is Samsung Pay (way better than Android Pay). Never again do I pull my wallet out (except when I occasionally buy wine -- I still get carded LOL!)

That hasn't been my experience at all. I have a Moto G4 and my wife has a Huawei phone and the S3 works very well with either. I've paired it separately with both plus an older Moto E I and everything works without a hitch. I know there have been some hitches with the IPhone but I wouldn't touch one of those if my life depended on it so I can't comment there.
There isn't a huge difference in the S3 user experience with a Samsung phone versus other branded Android phones. Regardless, if integration with the Google ecosystem is paramount, an AW watch will fulfill those duties better than the S3. But the LG Sport has a few serious shortcomings compared to the S3: inferior battery life, fixed wristband (a comfort and customization issue), and lack of MST. The LG Sport is the best AW 2.0 watch on the market only because it's the only one on the market right now. I too am waiting, I just chose to do it while using the S3 in the interim.
