[Q] Tether using WiFi?! - General Questions and Answers

Okay, so, I have a DS lite and have just got a load of Pokémon games and I want to use the WiFi features on it... Problem is, I have a WPA router and I don't want to change it too a WEP state as I would rather my network be secure... So another way would be to tether my phone to my DS, but it requires a data plan, so does anyone know an app that allows you to use a rooted phone to tether from WiFi?

using phone internet on prime?

what's up guys, I got my prime few weeks ago and I wanted to know if I can connect my evo phone to my prime to be able to use the internet on the go without root. so if I'm on the road or somewhere without wifi I can use my phones connection. I know some phones allow this to be done by Bluetooth connection but I have not been able to fig it out.
any help will be great!!
If your phone has hotspot feature than yes you can.
Also this is TF101 section, there's a Prime section.
You need to use the phone as a Wifi hotspot so it behaves like a normal router cresting a Wifi network your Transformer can connect to. Usually this is built in (take a look into settings - wireless and networks, is there an entry for it? If not, then your carrier has disabled it. If you want to get it anyway, you'll need to root the phone and install the app Wireless tether for root users which works absolutely fine.)

[Q] How to setup AdHoc on CM7 or any alternative to a Wifi Router?

Hello!
I recently moved away to a new home and I don't have a wifi router at this time and don't actually need one for just my G3. But still want to try whether any alternative is possible. I stumbled upon what a trick called "AdHoc" but according to the guide, android nativly doesn't support Adhoc (or something like that).
So I am looking for a way to make it work OR any other way to get wifi on my phone. Probably something like reverse tethering.
Thanks!!!
EDIT :: I am also tried using adhoc for myself but, the phone gets stuck on "authenticating" .
So you want to tether your phone to your computer?
I use a program for Connectify to make my own private hotspot using whatever wired connection my laptop has. Its entirely free though probably not the most lightweight or "hack-y" way of doing it.
We had a guide for tethering your PC internet for froyo in which we had to replace WPA supplicant file but it's of no use to you (cm 7)
I myself had tried adhoc of Microsoft but it is way too difficult to configure
You did not mention anything about your PC
If it is from Dell you get a program known as peer net with which you can get wifi in your home. This works with our galaxy 3
Also I think cm7 supports Adhoc as the program mentioned above works flawlessly with it
If it is true then try connectify, virtual router and other programs
If you succeed in configuring wifi be prepared to use the slowest internet speed possible

[Q] Wifi tether?

Now, when I say WiFi tether, I don't mean using my phone as a hotspot to let people use my data.
I want to be able to tether my wifi connection. Let's say I'm connected to my home wifi, I want to tether that connection.
I want to do this because I just ordered a Karma hotspot ( https://yourkarma.com/ ) and sometimes, I'll want to let others use the data I bought.
I know I saw something like this a while back, but I can't remember what it was...
Thanks in advance!

If you're using an android phone you can set up your phone as a wifi hotspot. Settings/more/mobile network sharing. Not sure if your phone has to be rooted to do this.

Most of the time this feature is turned off by your carrier. You usually have to pay extra. But try wifi tether, barnacle from Google play there are some like pda that do not require root . good luck
Nice and easy to share celluar internet with your tablet. If you can't on your original, there is a few apps to help out with that on the play store. I perfer to use bluetooth to share the data, since it uses less battery power.
If you can't buy a Wifi/Bluetooth tethering app on your phone, you probably can on your tablet, and use a root file explorer to transfer the file from your tablet and install it on your phone. Just don't share that file with anyone else. You'll need to have your google play account on both devices, but it does work. Most Bluetooth tethering apps this way require a client and server, and don't work quite so well.
The second way you can go about it is more complex if your Celluar carrier has tethering turned off. Flash a non-tethering-blocked rom onto your phone (CyanogenMod works) and then just use the built in tethering. Bluetooth tethering this way works wonderfully.
And for both methods, might look into Tasker - an automation utility that can help set up connections when conditions are met.
But that is roughly your two options if your carrier has tethering blocked. Find an App or Flash your phone.
Good luck

Using VPN with Tether Seems to Break Tether

I have the Tmobile $70 plan with comes with 2.5 GB of tethering.
If I tether to my laptop and the laptop has a VPN, then I can look at the counter at ma.web2go.com and see that no tethering data is being used. This solution works very well for a laptop, where I can operate a VPN on the laptop.
When I use the VPN on the phone, not the laptop, the laptop will see the tether wifi signal, will register, but the internet will not work on the laptop.
Or, other times, the VPN will disconnect on the phone after a few seconds and cannot be reconnected.
I would like to be able to use the VPN on the phone so that I can use a Roku and Chromecast where I cannot set up a VPN on the device.
Yes, I have added the line in the database file.
I have seen a solution elsewhere which involves switching the APN to use IPv4, but the APN is already set that way.
It seems as if Tmobile has some measures in place to stop people from doing what I want to do - anyone else experience this and anyone find any ways around it?
