Something weaks up my screen - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I need help, cuz something weaks up my screen every few seconds. It doesn't happens if i hold the proximity sensor. It also doesn't happens if the phone is in deep sleep. It is not kernel related because i tried different. Maybe because of xposed, but this would be strange because i didn't change everything. Some ideas??
Thx!

most likely its an app

Wake*
#stayparanoid

you have to look at your apps permissions, to find the one that has permission to wake your phones screen.

The Nexus S isn't really a phone to phone :(

I don't know if it is my fault, but the screen doesn't stay black until phoning, so i always hit the "mute", "hang up" or "hold" button on the screen with my face, very annoying.
any suggestions?

Kernel: Netarchy 1.3.0.8a for 2.3.3
ROM: NSCollab #21
Does it happen with 1.3.0.2 kernel?
does this happen when you were stock?

yes, it also happend with 1.3.0.2
CM 7.0.1 was said to have a proximity sensor bug, I wonder if the ROM you are using is related to this? I don't know much about the ROM you are using though, so I might be talking non-sense.

So your problem could be the ROM you are using.
Try stock.
Alternatively you could have a bum phone (bad proximity sensor)

I honestly think its either a bad flash or you might of accidentally messed with the setting. Go to the dialer and while on the dialer press the menu key and you should see a list of settings. Scroll down until you see the setting about screen time out while on a call.

when i go to the dialer and tap the menu button and select settings, i get a settingmenu, but the headline is "contact" the subheadline is "telephone" normal?
i just have two settings under the normal settings and "call settings" which could have something to do with the screenproblem and that are (sry i translate them german ^^) "always approach sensor" (on) and "screen always on" (off)

[Q] Anyone else cannot confirm OK with PackageInstaller ?

No idea if this is a ICS custom rom thing, but I remember it happened on stock as well.
When trying to install an .apk from sdcard (sideloading), I get the PackageInstaller confirmation window. Sometimes the right side where the OK button is, is non responsive (left side on Cancel can be clicked). After some trying, it works. Now, I have no idea what causes this, but it's ****ing annoying and seriously makes me want to throw the phone up the wall.
Anyone else noticed this ?

Um, yeah, the issue is in the Package Installer, I wouldn't even get to it, if I hadn't enable that.
That happens to me if I have the app Screen Filter enabled/on.

Hm, I've got Lux installed (manages lowest auto-brightness setting, because stock ICS is too dim). Perhaps that could be the issue. I'll try it out, thanks

I'm the developer of Lux. PackageInstaller shouldn't have any issues with Lux installed provided you haven't turned off 'compatibility mode' in settings.

Oh man, you're a genius. I've had this problem time and time again and always wondered what it could be. I've ran around the problem using a "silent" installer.

I tried uninstalling Lux and responsiveness was suddenly back, it recognized the touch everytime.
Compatibility is on -> screenshots
When I restored Lux back again, the responsiveness went back to nonconsistant, sometimes it works fine, mostly it ignores the touch.

Seems like some kind of Android protection to disable side loading lol, when an app with certain "screen manipulation" functionality is running

As you said I believe that's the case so you don't install malware thinking you're installing something else. Click hijacking isn't cool, kids!

You might have to wait a couple of seconds before Lux disables itself. Lux needs to poll to check the current foreground app and disable itself. It polls every 3 seconds, unless it has detected the same app a few times in a row, in which it slows polling down to 9 seconds.

I see, maybe I was trying to hit the OK too fast, because now it seems that it works after waiting couple seconds. Thanks.

No problem. I wish there was a cleaner solution, but alas the Android API doesn't provide an intent which warns apps that a secure view is being shown.
Really Android should be drawing secure fields above everything else, rather than disabling the view - whoever thought that was a good idea isn't very intelligent.

(R)double tap mod

Hey is there any way to add the double tap feature to the moar rom? It might be a good idea!

Ok...that is what I thought it was.
Have you tried Knockr? If not, might get close to the functionality you want. I used it for a bit and seemed to work decent. I was able to double tap to turn the screen on. My biggest problem was I am so used to pressing the power button to wake I kept forgetting to double tap.

You can turn it off in the phone app but not the contacts app, which is strange because they are essentially the same UI

I am using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Works great. I use the highest wave level just to turn on the screen. I do not use anything else.
