[Q] Recover Deleted File For Samsung Galaxy S4 (unrooted) - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I've Samsung Galaxy S4 (not rooted) . I've deleted some images and videos. They weren't in SD card. I tried a lot of apps about data recovery. Most of them said I can't recover photos without root. I don't wanna root my phone but I need those files. I read a lot of forums like this, but I couldn't find any solution. Can someone help me ? I really need this.:crying:
thx

A quick Google search returned this; http://android-photo-recovery.com/tutorials/recover-deleted-photos-from-samsung-galaxy-s4.html

So it turned out I can't recover them unless I root the phone ? So if I root phone now, will it overwrite images and photos ?

[Q] quick question

I have a Alcatel One Touch Pop 7 tablet from T-Mobile. There is someone on a YouTube video who has the same tablet, but has bricked it installing a custom ROM. He is begging me to make a backup of my "system" folder to send to him.
My question is, is that safe to do? I'm a complete noob when it comes to rooted devices, so I don't know if there is anyway that could be damaging to me, or if I would be doing someone a solid and helping them bring their tablet back to life.
Please, can someone advise me if this is OK or not (me making a backup of my system folder and sending it to him?)
Thanks in advance for reading and responding

Yeah, No Problem Dude for Backup...It is totally Safe...
Backup provide your data safe & if by mistake you delete your any files... You can restore again. So,Don't Take Doubts any Backup your system.
next question
I copied the system folder for him. Now he is asking for the boot.img file. I searched my tablet with Root Explorer and it didn't find a boot.img file... Any ideas?
backup your kernel with any app. just google it.

This isn't about me making a backup for me. I am trying to help someone who bricked their tablet, as said in my first post. I backed up the folder he asked me to back up. Then I uploaded it to my Google drive and sent him the link. He got my upload, and messaged me back saying the folder did not include the boot.img file. So, with Root Explorer, I searched my tablet for the boot.img file. Root Explorer didn't find the file he was missing. I am asking if anyone knows where I should look?

Recovering data from opo after deleting /storage folder and factory reset

Hi,
tl;dr:
Is there a theoretic way to recover data from the phone after:
1. deleting /storage folder
2. and then rooting (which means factory reset?)
If there is a theoretic way to recover it from the bits, is there a way to take a snapshot of the current state of the bit, so I can (in theory) recover the media in the future?
Long version:
First of all I know I'm very stupid..
Yesterday I've deleted my /storage folder since in first glance it looked empty.
Then I figured out what did I do, so I tried to recover the information.
I've searched the web for an application that does that and I found one that required rooting the phone, so I rooted the phone which means I made factory reset.
Then I tried to recover but it didn't manage to recover the photos and videos.. (it did recover whatsapp photos and some other things but not from the dcim folder).
I tried then several different applications that may not ask for rooting the phone so maybe I made a mistake by doing that (not sure that they wouldn't request for rooting either) but no success with that...
I'm willing to pay money to save that data but do you think it's not recoverable anymore?
I also called the 3 biggest recovery companies in my country, 2 of them told me that they don't think it's possible and one agreed to take it to their labs for a small price and then give me an offer.
If there is a theoretic way to recover it from the bits, is there a way to take a snapshot of the current state of the bit, so I can (in theory) recover the media in the future?
I'm very desperate and would be very thankful for your help

I'm...
After few weeks of working on that, I didn't make it to recover any of my photos/videos/whatsapp chat history (the things that were most important to me)
I tried several stuff, apperently all of the recovery programs that using the adb to directly connect to the phone through the PC doesn't work well enough, as well as the programs that works from the device...
I tried this article:
http://www.dflund.se/~jokke/androidfilerecovery/
but it didn't work for some reason...
Then I tried that one :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
I used a centos VM to get a image of the device partiotns the way they suggested (I couldn't make the busybox work).
I mapped that file as hard disk
I tried to use 'Recuva' it seems like it managed to restore files but something apperantly went wrong and the files wasn't helpful...
I tried to use 'easeus data recovery' it worked better, it found around 20k files.. There were alot of directories and I didn't look up at it so much but it recoverd alot of photos which I think were from the whatsapp media.
Incase someone who made the same mistake by deleting the 'storage' folder, get to this post, I recommend to turn off the phone immidietly and find a way to do that without rooting the device.. (although it might be impossible since as far as I know all of the methods I used were depends on a rooted device, but I didn't look up on this since the first thing I done is to root my device - which might be the mistake)...

Accidentally deleted album

Hi all,
I hope someone will be able to help me! I have an s8+ model SM-G955FD. I was in the gallery and deleted an entire album (amazed it would even let me do that without confirmation). How do I get my lost videos/images back please? I have tried dr.fone which says the phone needs to be rooted and oneclickroot has said it can't be rooted yet. I don't particularly want to root my phone.
Please help!
Thanks in advance
Joe
Are you in the habit of logging into Google or Samsung accounts?
If so you may find they were backed up to the cloud, if not there are a number of apps on Playstore, one such is called 'DiskDigger Photo Recovery', all purporting to recover deleted files.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Unfortunately the videos weren't backed up. I've tried DiskDigger which is very good - it didn't find the videos and says I need to do a deeper scan for which a root is required.
Sorry to hear that. Were you at least able to salvage some or all of the photos?

Yes I did thanks but the videos are an issue. I've been trying to use the phone as little as possible hoping I'll be able to undelete the files but so far I haven't found anything to do that.
Try this For Videos Recovery Without Root
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=video.recovery&hl=en
For Pictures Disk Drigger is best without root
Thanks very much. Great app in theory but in practice it seems to have copied all my whatsapp video to the recovered folder! I guess without root (which I believe can't be done for the S8), I'm stuffed.
I find someone says the GT Recovery and DiskDigger. But when I tried with them just find some small photos, no the original.

Recover deleted SD Maid files

Hello,
I uninstalled Snapchat form my phone and when SD Maid asked me to delete its data I mistakenly hit yes. SO all my pictures and videos I had taken using Snapchat got deleted. Is there any way to restore them or are they gone forever ? I don't have a SD card on my phone and my phone is rooted. All the Snapchat pictures and videos were stored on my internal memory.
Is there any solution to this? Did the same just now with hike.
Yes
PhotoREC
You could search on Google to find a Snapchat files recovery app. This tool may help you detect and extract file from recycle bin.

Not so sure SD Maid uses the recycle bin at all. No provision for it in its settings... it's quit efficient.

SD maid pro is deleting all of my photos/whatsapp images , i search on youtube and google to find some help , and none of those is working , and recycle bin is not helping too , SD maid pro is deleting photos of my friend that passed away 2 years ago ( , PLEASE I REALLY NEED HELP TO GET MY PHOTOS BACK.
With the exception of newest Samsung phone's a Recycle Bin doesn't exist on Android, hence advising people to try to recover deleted files from Android Recycle Bin is a false proposition.

Nor can I think of a solution; SD Maid is quit thorough*.
You should back all critical data at least twice... won't help this time though.
Only two kinds of users; those who have lost data and those who will.
Been there, done that.
* I use SD Maid Pro with no issues but you need to be very careful about what you set it to do!

File/Data Recovery on unrooted stock P20 Pro CLT-L29 [HELP]

Hi, so some background, it has been a long time since I have touched custom ROMs or root access on an android device (back when the Nexus 2 released) so I don't really remember anything and know nothing about how the android environment has changed.
The reason for my post is that I was "hiding" sentimental/sensitive material in a folder associated with the Google Drive application using a file manager app (cut and paste into Drive folder) so that it wouldn't appear in Gallery scans, and when my drive app wasn't working as expected I (stupidly) uninstalled the update (can't actually uninstall the app on stock ROM) causing the folder to be wiped. Now I'm trying to find a way to recover the files but all the solutions recommended by a google search that I've tried require root and from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong, unlocking my bootloader to gain root access will wipe my internal storage which would probably defeat the whole purpose(?) of trying to recover information as it will overwrite the sectors. So does anyone know of anyway that I can recover this data from my device? I am willing to root as long as it will yield results.
tl;dr - need to recover files on stock P20 Pro (locked bootloader, no root), please help I am lost and a noob now
Thanks in advance!
P.S. This was (incorrectly) posted in the discussion forum before and I have requested it to be deleted

Stop bumping. You are simply in the wrong section. None of us has a Pro model. This is the P20-Forum. Not Pro, not lite. I can not understand why people see 3 different devices as one. Ask here. Good luck!
