XT1040 Recovery + Root - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I've successfully unlocked the bootloader on my XT1040 running android 4.4.4
The problem is I cannot seem to get TWRP or CWM recovery to work.
I've flashed:
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-xt1032
recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.7-falcon
TWRP-2.7.0.0-falcon
twrp-2.7.1.0-peregrine-201407161845
and every time I select recovery it says
"no command"
so I hold volume up for 10-15 seconds and then tap power and I get the menu no problem
then I try to flash SuperSU and I get an error "installation aborted"
I can't seem to get to TWRP or CWM recovery.
What am I doing wrong here?

I get the exact same thing on my Moto G LTE (xt1040)
There is a tutorial, if you google Moto g lte root. It will help you fastboot the TWRP (twrp-2.7.1.0-peregrine-201407161845.img is what I used)
And from there DONT REBOOT from your fresh recovery install because it will be gone. Flash the SU Zip and install root.
After that, reboot and you'll have root access but if you try to enter recovery it will give you NO COMMAND.
That's all I could figure out for now.
Ill try and walk you through this how I did it:
....haha actually let me just like the XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/newb-friendly-guide-to-rooting-moto-g-t2793895
If anyone else knows of a working recovery pls let me know :\
am i blind?

Thank you so much, I figured out how to get TWRP recovery to work. Only problem is, I wiped the whole damn phone, (I was trying to put the Moto G CyanogenMod 11)
Now I have to find the damn firmware to put it back on, Guess i was tired and stupid when i wiped the whole damn thing instead of the cache. Firmware i'm looking for if anyone has it is for Fido 4.4.4

XT1040 Working Recoveries

[Q] No Rom, failure when flashing

Hi all. I own a Moto G xt1032 UK version. (GSM right?)
I was on 4.4.4 Epsilon ROM but I wanted to flash stock 4.4.4, so I used a tutorial I found on youtube that set me up to stock 4.4.2, then I upgraded to 4.4.4 and THEN there was another update to 5.0.1. So as you can guess, I upgraded to lollipop and that was it - bootloop. I have tried flashing other roms through fastboot and nothing worked, I get an error when I flash ''system'' that says ''image is too large'' once all is done, phone restarts and its stuck on bootloop once again. The bootlogo changes when I flash different rom etc. But I don't know what to do, any ideas? :/ I have also tried to flash a custom recovery and sideload the Epsilon ROM but I only get an error in my command line that says no device connected after I hit the command. Any suggestions guys? I appreciate any sort of help, thanks guys.
I'll also add that I think I have the 41.18 bootloader if it helps (it says so in the bootloader settings)
When flashing a ROM in fastboot, are you also flashing the gpt file?
Yeah. I flash everything there's to flash as all tutorials instruct.
To try and get your phone up and running, flash a custom recovery from fastboot. Once the recovery image has been flashed, use the phone's volume buttons to boot into recovery. If you can get into recovery, try and flash a custom ROM.
Ah, I forgot to add. When I attempt to flash anything from my storage it says some sort of error coun't mount /sdcard and others when the recovery opens up. I tried flashing other recoveries, TWRP, CWM both show the exact same errors..Can't mount SDcard etc. :/ That is why I tried the sideload method which didn't work for me either.
You're flashing recovery for the falcon?
Yes..for falcon. I've done it a bunch of times before, however I never had the unable to mount error in the recovery..
I don't have my moto g on me but I found Philz Touch (based on CWM) worked besr for me after i switched back from GPE to CM12. I was getting weird error messages in TWRP.

Majorly screwed up my Moto G [URGENT HELP NEEDED]

Alright so I have a Moto G original version, currently running 4.4.4. I previously rooted it and stuck TWRP on it, but then when it became available to update to Lollipop on the Moto G I tried to get stock recovery on it. I used "MotoToolAIOV3" to put "Kitkat Stock Recovery" on it. This seemed to work fine, until it came to update, which then it errored every time I tried. I then realised the stock recovery that "MotoToolAIOV3" must be faulty or something, so I tried reputting TWRP on my Moto G by flashing it from an app called "Rashr". This seemed to be successful, HOWEVER I went to reboot my phone to check if it had worked, put it into bootloader, then went into recovery and it still came up with the stock recovery "MotoToolAIOV3" had given me. I was confused, so I tried "normal powerup", which THEN sent me into TWRP, however this time, when the bootloader unlocked warning came up, a weird blurry line went through my screen every so often, and then it went into TWRP, with the line going across the screen in TWRP as well. I've tried to boot into normal powerup through TWRP, Bootloader, normal powerup, holding down power button but every time I try, it goes into TWRP with a dodgy line going across my screen. I'm currently doing exams and I really need my phone as I have revision notes on apps that I can only access on that phone, and things such as exam timetable saved in the actual phone.
Please, somebody help ):
Again my phone is a Moto G Original Gen running 4.4.4 stock android, on a tesco thing (cant remember what its called might be kernel).
Thank you.

Seems like you have flashed TWRP into the kernel partition. Seem like the "Rashr" app or whatever flashed it there by mistake. I recommend that you install TWRP via a more standard procedure, such as using fastboot(if bootloader unlocked) or using the instructions given where ever you downloaded TWRP. Your situation is not serious as long as you are careful....
1. Install recovery to correct partition
2. Boot to that recovery and wipe/factory reset etc...
3. Install an new ROM.

Boot loop from CWM

Hey guys. I'm a bit of a newbie at androids. I bought a Moto G, and I decided to root it.
I realized that the android was not unlocked, so I went through a small progress to try get it unlocked so I could install a custom recovery. I chose CWM.
I went through a tutorial on how to install CWM, and I installed it. I used the MotoTool to push Superuser to my android, and was able to install the zip.
It all went wrong when I tried to exit out of CWM.
I selected "Reboot" and it loaded the screen up to CWM again...a bit odd. So I'm trying to reboot so I can use my phone properly, and nothing is working.
What I've tried :
-----> Clearing dalvik cache and cache with CWM -
I tried this and it still didn't work.
-----> Loading into my AP Fastboot with CWM and trying to power off and on from there
Still didn't work and loaded into CWM.
----->Flashing my bootloader
Made it worse. I can't even power up my phone anymore.
In conclusion, my phone is hard-bricked, and I can't even power it up. If anyone has any solutions, it would be extremely helpful. Please feel free to comment or reply if you need more info about my device.

Moto G 2013 (X1031) Will Only Boot Into Recovery

Weirdest problem, and not one that I've ever encountered after playing around with Android since the G1 days!
My Boost Moto G 2013 will only boot into the recovery, no matter what I do. I've searched and searched through Google and on XDA and found nothing that matches my problems exactly.
I can get into the bootloader (am running version 41.1A) and flash a new recovery. I've got TWRP on there right now, but I've tried CWM as well -- same problem. I've actually installed Android 5.1 from the stock flashable zip, and it says it flashes fine, but still won't boot into it. No matter how I restart the phone, it just goes straight into recovery.
Any ideas?
I'm assuming that you've tried different ROMs? I had a weird problem where I could no longer flash any ROM's without getting an error. Only after I did a complete wipe of everything (including internal storage which was the key) was I able to properly boot up. Not quite the issue you're having but worth a shot, make sure you can access the phone on your PC so that you can copy over the ROM after the wipe.
I have had this problem recently. I believe I had to fastboot flash stock recovery, then an older, smaller CWM to avoid partition mismatch problems. Then flash the TWRP you want with a zip with CWM.

HELP! Mismatched partition size for TWRP on Moto G Falcon

Hi everyone. I'd appreciate it if I got some help fixing my Moto G as it's been gathering dust ever since I couldn't boot into the recovery and stuck in the bootloader. I accidentally deleted the OS and when I try to install the stock rom, it just goes straight back to the bootloader. I really want to get this phone working again. When I try installing a recovery, it says "Mismatched Partition Size". It's the same with TWRP and CWM. My goal is to revert back to the stock ROM, which is 4.4.4 Boost Mobile. Manually flashing the ROM in sequences didn't work.
If any of you can, please help me.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone flashing a custom recovery on Falcon gets this same error. Ignore it. Your issue is something else.

Solved: I had to update the bootloader first.
I've been getting the same recovery partition size doesn't match error. I've tried TWRP 3.0.0.0.2 and 3.0.0.0 for falcon and get this error with both. I've rooted HTC, Sony Xperia and Nexus devices before without any problems.
The previous poster said he updated the (I'm guessing Motorola) bootloader. Where and how do I find this update.
My bootloader is: 41.1A (sha-80481ae, 2015-04-10 14:30:20) The phone is a 1st gen Moto G 1GB/16GB.

41.1A is the latest available bootloader
and the error of the mismatched partition can be ignored, just reboot to twrp after you flashed it and it will be fine
Just tried to reboot into TWRP, but I got the robot with a red triangle and 'no command'.
I'll try reflashing TWRP and report back later

After you flashed twrp, don't reboot using fastboot command, just power down using the power button and boot to twrp using the power+volume down button. Just try that and see if it successfull.
I had same issue, after HOURS i found out why, thanks to this guide:
http://www.droidthunder.com/root-install-twrp-recovery-moto-g-2013/
ALL OTHERS guide i read, included the istruction on twrp site itself, was wrong.
after you use fastboot to flash twrp, you must NOT restart, but simply:
After successfully installing the TWRP recovery, on your phone (in fastboot mode) go to the Recovery option by pressing volume down button and then press volume up button to select it.

like this, FINALLY, my motog loaded the twrp.
hope this will help others with this same issue, to save the 2 hours i lost, lol.
