[Completed] is there a way to navigate to a specific post? - XDA Assist

an OP in a thread I followed referred to a post # for someone to check which I want to do also. I have myself used links to specific posts (which he did NOT do), but I am wondering if there is a way to go to a post number like there is a way to go to a page number. If not, put in the suggestion box.
this may be wrong forum to ask in, if so, sorry, mods please move

Not in the xda app or tapatalk that I know of, if this is what you are asking then a good place can be right here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841646
If you are referring to on a PC then unless it is linked (yes you can link just a post rather than a whole thread) again at least not that I am aware of, but I rarely have a chance to sit in front of a PC so another great place to ask would be here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976627
You can also request this feature at either thread
Hope you find what you're after

I know its here somewhere......

Right off the bat, let me apologize for being such a noob. But for the life of me, I cant seem to find out how to actually dual boot WinMo and Android on my TMOUS htc hd2. I have searched using every term and phrase i can think of and nothing. Please keep in mind that I am not only new to this type of stuff, but to forums as well. So then I tried to find out how to flash a rom and radio, and come up empty there too. I couldn't even find if thats all the steps to change a phone. I am willing to learn, WANT to learn, but need a little boost to get started. I am supremely interested in figuring out how to use Ubuntu on my hd2 (thats what my main computer is), but i figure thats probably harder than the rest so i didn't even search it. Please no comments on how noobish I am please. I am already aware of this fact. And if i posted this in the wrong place, or this kind of question is not allowed, moderators feel free to delete or move it (not that you need MY permission). Thanks in advance for any help on this matter, and as I said at the beginning, please forgive my noobishness.
Another Question.....
Another question I wanted to ask that I haven't yet found an answer to was whether or not a computer has to be used for anything other than loading files onto the SD card, and if so, are the programs running on the computer compatible with linux? If not, are they able to run on wine? Again any help is greatly appreciated.
Used to be new too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=624
Check out the stickies
Don't lurk on that phone so don't know if they have a wiki setup. Most likely do. Most phone's have wiki sections that if you read em will all the info you need. You said you're open and want to learn, keep that up.
For reference on searching, the search system is setup like a/the forum sub section, kinda like a file system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=631
Use the "search this forum" button here on this page to do a search on just that phone's forum. If you use the same button on the accessories main page, it will just search that phone's acc forum. Same goes if you search the xda main forum page, you'll be searching everything.
I did notice yesterday and today the search was acting up, giving me 0 results for topics I know are here, then just searched for general things like case and unlock, still nothing. That may have been the problem you were having, too.
Good Luck
Thank You
That was the problem I was having. I would search, but come up with no or very few results. Thank you for your help. I didn't read all the stickies or even check the wiki, like i said, I'm a noob. Well, far as I am concerned this thread can be closed.

questions about the forum

I don't know if this thread is in the right section; if necessary plz move it. I have some questions about the forum; is there a link to quickly access all new replies to my posts/threads?(this exists in several forums) or access all my posts in general. Maybe there's already one but can't find it.. maybe put it at top right, right to "private messages"

In your usercp is an option for subscriptions. Subscribe to threads when you reply (option is in settings to auto subscribe)
Choose no email subscription unless you want email notifications, and then go to usercp to see the subscribed threads.
i already done that but a quick link to all new replies to my posts would have been better imo
Go into your profile, then statistics. There will be "find all posts by *username*" and "find all threads started by *username*". That should give you an easy way to navigate around what you've posted.
lol yeah i know too.. i just wanted to know if there were quicker shortcuts. Anyway thx for all ur help.

First post of required 10

I'm trying to post an answer to someones question in the MIUI development forum, but because i don't have 10 posts I am not allowed.
Question: Is any body else having problem with the GPS and the Market place not downloading anything on 3g.
Answer: Open the Downloads app, then hit menu and select Download over mobile network. If that option is already selected, change it to WIFI, save, then change it back to mobile network.
*sigh* 1 post down, 9 more to go before I can be helpful.
Isnt it annoying lol. well thanks for this now i can finally post my rom in the dev section. good luck
at least I helped someone today!
by the way, my source for the info posted above is the official MIUI forum. I'd post the link...but I'm too new to do that, either.
is it necessary to have 10 posts
it's necessary to have 10 posts to post in the development threads. Until then you can only post in the General and Q & A sections.
My presumption is that it's intended to prevent the Dev threads from getting flooded with people swooping in from Google and dropping a bunch of repetitive questions. Makes sense, it's just inconvenient for me because I have an actual answer!
The thread doesn't make much sense to me. Closed.

I Will Post Your Question In The Dev Thread IF...

Thread closed.
Don't bother complaining about the 10-post rule here. I will request regular thread cleaning as necessary. This is not a thread you can use to build up your post count.
1. There are other constructive threads with that topic in the About xda-developers.com forum. I will happily debate you on the matter there.
--- Better alternative to postcount limit in development forums
--- A possible simple solution for Dev thread "Spam"
2. It is not going away because it is (mostly) for spam control.

The 10 post rule was put in place to make new users think, and hopefully contribute and help others by making useful posts rather than the usual crap like "thanks", "kewl" etc or ask questions which have been asked countless times before. They still have access to dev forums, just cannot post in them. Its not a massive restriction and to provide 10 useful/helpful posts is not hard.

Getting 10 quality posts is not that difficult and doesn't take that long if someone puts in a little effort. However, I understand if someone doesn't feel like they have time to do that.
That being said, I promise to post your question and post any answers received back from the appropriate ROM thread.........IF
You are asking something development related or some technical question about the ROM itself.
You are producing a mod for the ROM.
You want to enter a bug report.
That is what the development threads are supposed to be used for.
Other types of questions generally belong in the device Q&A (Question and Answer) forums. Not the dev threads. That is why there is no post count limit on the Q&A forums. If you really want the best device specific help, try reading the stickied guides in your devices Q&A forum, then post there if necessary.
Each one of these questions will be evaluated individually. If your question is uniquely ROM-related, I will ask it.
Your post must include:
1. A detailed device configuration: ROM, kernel, firmware, radio, mods, etc...etc...
---- This info should be in your signature
2. A list of things you have searched, read, done, and tried.
---- Expecting to come in here and get a quick freebie? Nothing in life is free, you have to do a little work here.
3. Terms you have searched for and where you searched.
---- Which forums? Which websites? Exact terms and different combinations of terms tried?
4. Your agreement that you have read ALL of the dev's initial posts in said dev thread. TWICE.
---- I mean read, not just skimmed over. Good devs put a lot of work into their first page posts and keep them updated, many times with FAQs and other helpful troubleshooting tips.
5. Your agreement that you have read the stickied guides in your devices General, Q&A, and Development forums.
---- Many people have put in countless hours of their personal time to enter in this knowledge for you to learn it and apply it successfully to your XDA experience and phone, and the mods have put them at the top of the subforum pages so you don't have to work to find them. Please don't waste their time or yours.
6. If you are having a problem, what exact steps brought you to the point you are at?
---- Remember, the more details you can give means that it is more likely your question will get answered correctly.
7. What steps have you tried to resolve the problem on your own?
---- See points 2. and 6. above.
8. What logs do you have?
---- See point 6. above. And this: [GUIDE] How to give constructive feedback to developers And this: [Tutorial] How to Logcat
9. The exact question you want to post
If you do these things I honestly believe that you will not need to post your question as it will already have been answered, but if not, I will enter your questions on any dev thread you want to post in but cannot post in, and post any and all answers received back here.
Thanks mate!
Also for the newbies: Any other question must go to Q&A section and not in here in General, wrong section threads will be moved or closed.

I have a 100Mbps download and upload speed, the newest MIUI release ("miui_INC_2.8.10") has been uploaded to quite a few foreign websites that only allow download speeds of up to around 22.5KB/s.
I've taken it upon myself to download the ROM file, upload it to my personal DropBox but also, more importantly, my personal file hosting server, here. (Link will be LIVE/ACTIVE in ~30 seconds from this post.)
Please post both of these links (note that they're the full URL, I'm not trying to get any money out of them, just trying to supply download links) in [THIS] thread.

Welcome, thank you. I want to be clear on what you are trying to do first. You are trying to be a mirror site, correct? I see that the OP there set up a mirror on DevHost a few days ago, but if you want to offer secondary mirrors then I can post there and ask for his permission.
Yes, I am trying to supply two North American server mirrors. The DevHost is a nice mirror, but still their bandwidth only allocates maybe 150KB/s per download.
The DropBox mirror supports up to, at least, 3.5MB/s. (Yes, MegaBytes) while I've downloaded at a full 12.5MB/s (100Mbps) from my personal hosting site.
Thank you.
EDIT: And as a.. "complimentary gift" of sorts for supplying these two mirrors (of great quality), would it at all be possible to remove my posting restrictions even though I have yet to reach my "10 quality posts"?
See, I don't visit the website often enough to bother with posting in Off-Topic forums, or "General Discussion." If you've noticed, I'm intelligent, and what I have to post is relevant, and most of the time useful, to the thread.
I've also been a member of some other forums for years, one which I will soon be "celebrating" my 10 year anniversary. I'm a developer of many Windows-based programs and I have before had fixes for some of the bugs for the ROMs posted here, but was aggravated that I could not post due to lack of post count and decided to just not post (not like I really had a choice.)
All I ask is that you consider my request.
Regards,

I will be happy to post this in the dev thread for you as long as the OP is fine with it, I appreciate you taking time to do that work of getting everything set up. I will write to him right now to ask and I will copy you on the PM so he knows exactly what we are requesting.
I wish I could assist but I do not have any power with regards to the posting restrictions, that would have to be done by one of the moderators. You can feel free to write to one of them, but at this point given that you are just 4 posts away I think their answer would be to suggest to post a few more times.
Update: PM is sent to the OP and you, hopefully he will reply back soon with a yes answer and I will post your links.

A link to the specific ROM thread would be helpful. There are two RemICS ROMs there.
[ROM][PORT][Android 4.0.4] RemICS v1.5.3 - SIII look [05-08-2012]
[ROM][PORT][ICS][4.0.4] RemICS v1.5.3 (FIXED) - SIII Look & Feel [20-08-2012]
Both of them appear to be using DevHost, but since I am not able to get to my files on DevHost right now either it seems to be a problem there. Typically they get it resolved in a few minutes so if you try again in a little while it should be ok. The first ROM above has a mirror here on RapidShare if that helps.
Meanrom 2.6 - Issue with Cam Mod and Beats Mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645211
After following the specific instructions in the forum as how to install the cam mod and beats mod (specifically post #6171)
Beats still does not show up anywhere on the phone. Someone else had this problem as well, but it was not responded to.
How can we verify that we successfully installed the cam and the beats mods?
Thanks!

I am at work right now and today is incredibly busier than normal so I can't dig into this at the moment, I am sorry. I will look more at it when I get home in a few hours. I don't see a specific way to test the camera but I would suggest taking some pictures and looking at the size. They should be significantly larger in size with the HQ mod. For Beats, I believe that you can start the stock music player up and plug headphones in and you should see a red "b" icon on the notification bar.

Here's the original post that post was based on, with links to the versions of the mods required. If the coolexe v3 music mod, which includes beats, is installed properly you should have an Beats Audio option in your settings menu and you will need to go into that and check off at least the wired headphones, and optionally bluetooth, before you will see the beats notifications when playing songs in HTC Music.

Thank you!! Most appreciated sir.
Thank you for your help with getting it posted.
I didn't see a beats option in my settings, even though I followed those steps.
If you have any suggestions on how to get it working it would be greatly appreciated.
PS The rom is also missing the sprinttv app. Installing it from Google Play and running it says that the app needs an update and then crashes. Is there an APK for the sprinttv that will work with Meanrom 2.6?
Is there a zip of the missing apps that we can install through recovery?

Well, I have to say this is the first time on this site that I have made several attempts to contact someone to convey an offer of free hosting/mirroring and been completely ignored. I have seen the guy online several times but no reply. I sent him a PM to ask him for at least the courtesy of a reply, but nothing. He is online now but appears to be ignoring it.
So my advice is to not waste your time and bandwidth any further on him or his ROM. I sincerely apologize to you, I was hoping to have a good positive demonstration here by doing it the right way and asking before simply posting mirror links as I have seen others do in the past, but to be ignored just demonstrates that someone does not wish to be helped, and therefore it is very likely that he will receive little help in the future when he does need it.
Badly need some assistance, Will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Read, Searched, Done & Tried:
Google for a good few hours, Searching countless A501 root links to find 90% of sites were for the A500. YouTubing, wording it in multiple ways found a guy that claimed to be able to root the A501 and A500. Watched the vid and the more I watched the less I trusted him, Clicked the download links in his description and was redirected to sites that didn't look trustworthy.
I haven't physically tried anything to do with rooting yet until I know more about it or find a guide specifically for the A501.
Searched keywords in this site and just about every forum to do with android, found one or two things on here claiming to do the A501 root but I don't have ICS and I'm not exactly sure how to get it, I'm pretty sure my device came as 3.1 or 3.0.1 Honeycomb when I bought it (It's on a Plan) I THINK I updated it to 3.2.1 Honeycomb but can't remember.
Tried multiple apps to help me getting the controller to work for Modern Combat 3 but most of them are for Bluetooth or like the Joystick Center 6 & Joy2Touch (Which I downloaded here) they need rooting - (I'd like to be able to use Joy2Touch without rooting but it doesn't seem possible?)
Quite a few hours went into research and all I know about this is that I need to revert my tablet back to 3.0.1 or 3.1 to root it, I also seen a post saying something like Bootloader will make it difficult - I'm not sure if it's on my device or not.
I have not installed any roms or mods on my device yet.
Terms searched: "A501 root" "How-to root Acer Iconia A501" "How to setup xbox wired controller Modern Combat 3" "Modern Combat 3 Controller support?" I cant remember exactly every term I searched but it was all pretty much the same just worded differently and I used Google, Youtube, Posted questions on answers.yahoo.com and this site but nobody has replied.

Nothing that helps with the rooting of A501 - I just searched multiple times in the search bar.
Hey guys.
Looked around the forum a bit but didn't find my answer, trying to play Modern Combat 3 with my wired xbox controller, shoot, change weapon and zoom work. Just can't figure out how to get the analog sticks to aim and walk for me.
(Controller works fine for other games like Dead trigger)
I have the USB/BT Joystick center 6 app and the joy2touch but when i use joy2touch it just says "root access failed"
Is there an easy fix for this? What do I have to do to get this working, would love to play the game with my controller.
Thanks guys.

Hey, thank you for posting and including all the info. I am trying to look into this right now, but I am at work so it is a bit difficult to sneak in too much XDA time. I will spend time on it this evening if I am unable to find anything else. Just out of curiosity, did you post this in the A500 forums? I just PM'ed a mod there to see if A501 questions were also included in the A500 forums so hopefully he will be able to get back to me soon on that.

Hey, after checking around, I think your best bet is to post your question in the A500 Q&A forum as there are other questions I saw in there for the A501. You have it well written up and I think you well get help and replies there since you have really tried and people will see and respect that.
Well, first I have to admit, it took me some sticky reading digging to find this thread, but it's a very welcome idea.
I had made this original post here, probably against my better judgment and forum policy, but I'm hoping this can significantly help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858551
That post also links to the discussion around lost IMEI's and being stuck on roaming on the Verizon GS3. If you read through the thread, you'll see that the developer is still attempting to ascertain root cause of the lost IMEI and/or stuck roaming. My post is an attempt to add a very specific circumstance to help guide in the debugging of that situation.
I would like to follow up with additional information around the ERI and post a conjecture around devices with non-matching MIN and device phone numbers, to see if any of that might have something to do with or might shed some light on the stuck in roaming mode.

I have had many people ask questions about how to use this website, so i thought i would take the time to make a guide to help out newer members that may be confused or overwhelmed by the wealth of information here. You can also add information that will show up to others when they view your profile such as your birthday, what device you are using, your personal website link, how to instant message you on other messaging networks, links to your social media accounts, the phone carrier that you are using, what city and country you are from, a short biography of yourself, your interests and hobbies, your work occupation, and how to donate to you (if you think your contributions to XDA will be worth a donation).
Profile Privacy
Here you can edit what information you will allow others to see about you just in case you would like to keep some information more private.
Edit Profile Picture
Here you can add/edit a profile picture by either uploading a photo from your computer or phone, or entering a link to a photo from another website that you use such as dropbox.
Contacts & Friends
Here you can select XDA users to add to your contacts or friends list. You can also find information on how to delete contacts here.
Social Groups
Here you can search for social groups to join or start your own social group. Social groups are usually a grouping of people that have the same device, same interests, same cultural background, etc.
Pictures & Albums
Here you can add picture albums to upload photos to for sharing with others here on XDA.
Edit Avatar
Here you can add a photo that will appear under your username whenever you make a post.
Edit Signature
Here you can add/edit a signature (text and/or photo) that will appear at the bottom of every post you make. You can hover over edit options with your cursor to see a description of what they do (like change color of text, change size of text, etc.). You can highlight a part of your signature and select an edit option to change only that part. For a complete guide to all the cool things you can do in a signature, go here! Things that would be great to include in your signature would be your device model number, which ROM version you are using (stock is what came on your phone from the store, and custom ROM is like Cyanogenmod or other aftermarket ROM that was flashed by you or previous owner of device), which kernel version you are using, which android version you have (like 4.4.2 or 5.1.1), which baseband version you are using, which recovery version you are using (stock is what came on your phone from the store, and custom recovery is like Clockworkmod, team win recovery project, etc), any additional custom framework or modules that have been added to your device (like Xposed, Lspeed, etc. Do not list apps), or anything else that you think is important related to your device. If you are unsure, most of this info is available in android settings-about phone. Entering this info will help us to quickly answer your questions.
Edit Email & Password
Here you can change the email affiliated with your XDA account, change your password, or connect a Google+ account to your XDA profile.
Edit Options
Here you can find additional privacy options, messaging and notification options to keep up with interesting threads, private messaging options, date and time options, and customize how the website looks to you including the theme.
Edit Ignore List
Here you can add or delete contacts that you wish to ignore during your XDA experience.
List Messages
Here you can see any private messages that you have received or sent. You can also delete or save messages here as well as change the display options for your message list. An easier way to get to this list is by going into messages from the box labeled "messages" near the top right of your screen.
List Subscriptions
Here you can view the threads that you have subscribed to in a nice and neat list.
Edit Folders
Here you can add/edit folders that you want to keep subscribed threads organized in case you have a lot of them.
Attachments
Here you can view or delete any attachments that you have attached in previous posts.
You may find that you are unable to post replies or threads in some places at first. Please make 10 meaningful or helpful posts elsewhere first and then you will be able to. You will graduate from a Junior Member to a Member at 30 posts. You will graduate from a Member to a Senior Member at 100 posts. To graduate to a Recognized Contributor, Recognized Developer, or Moderator, please search in the "Search all forums" box near the top middle of the screen, and type "How to become a (which ever one of these I mentioned that you are curious about)"
Near the top right of the screen there will be a button labeled "Notifications". Here you will get quick access to messages, mentions, quotes and statistics (statistics will be shown on same page as quotes. Here you can also find all posts made by you in the past, and all thanked posts made by you in the past), and update alerts for software you are using from subscribed threads. Also towards the right of the screen you will see easy access tabs to quickly view unread messages, and threads that you subscribed to.
Near the top right of the screen you will see the button for "Swappa". This is an online store for buying and selling devices and is recommended by XDA.
Next read XDA Forum Rules if you haven't yet before going any further. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the webpage and you will find a link for this as well as some other useful links. Or you can click here.
Finding The Forums And Threads That You Are Looking For
Now to find the best forums and threads related to your device, click on the search box near the top left of your screen and start typing any identifying words that relate to your device until you find it. Once your device is selected you will find specifications, forums, threads, information on how to root, ROM's, kernels, and tools/utilities that are related to your device. If you are not able to find your device, then use the search box for searching all forums to find forums and threads that may be related to your device. This may be needed if you have a very new, old, or less common device. You may have to select the settings icon to the right of this search box for advanced search options. For a complete guide to using XDA's search features, check out this thread by my friend @TheMerovingian. If you are still not finding the information you need, read below for what to do next.
XDA Assist And How To Start Your Own Thread
If you are still not finding the information you need after following the steps above, then click on the XDA assist tab near the top left of your screen. Here you can start a new thread requesting help to find the information you are looking for. You can find the new thread button near the top left of your screen. If you did find the forum you were looking for, then you can start a thread there the same way by selecting the new thread button near the top left of your screen. If you are unsure if this is the right forum to start your thread, then select the moderator tab near the top middle of the screen and send a private message to one of the moderators telling them what your thread is about, the name of your thread, where you think it should go, and politely ask if that is the right thing to do.
How To Operate Within Threads
Now that you have found a thread that interests you, here is some information on how to utilize your resources to get the most out of it. The original post or OP is where you are going to find the most info and usually any downloads that are related to the thread. This is on the first page of the thread (sdk version is related to which android version you are running. Arm, arm64, and x86 version is related to which processor you have in your device). If you cannot find this info in your android settings, then search for your device specifications online. Read all of the first page now. If you still have questions about the thread, next use the search box at the top of the original post to find specific info within the thread. If you still have questions read through a majority of the thread before posting questions. Unless it is a new thread, most likely the answer to your question is in there somewhere. The newest posts will be towards the last page of the thread. If you still have questions its time to make a post in the thread.
Making A Post In A Thread
At the bottom of the thread page you will see an option for a quick reply. This is a basic reply with limited options. Not many people are going to notice this post especially in a busy thread. If you want a specific person to be alerted that you have made a post then you either need to mention them by adding text in your post like this... @ZipAddict or you need to quote another persons post by selecting the "reply" button at the bottom right of the post that you are replying to. If you would like to alert multiple people that you have posted, then you need to select the "multi-quote" button at the bottom right of each persons post that you are replying to followed by selecting reply. Once again if you hover over edit options at the top of the reply you are making, you will see a description of what each one does (like change the font, or hide text like in my signature). For a complete guide on all the cool things you can do in a post, go here! Additional options are available below the text box and this is where you can add attachments to your post. If you are wanting to post several photos or videos, it can be easier to post a link to an offsite photo gallery like dropbox in your post itself.
Sending Private Messages
To send someone a private message you can either click on their username and select "send message", or you can go to your message list and start a new message by manually entering the username/s of who you wish to send a message to. If you are wanting to send attachments in a private message, then you can include a link to your offsite gallery just like we discussed above.
~If someone has posted something that has helped you, then you are urged to hit the "thanks" button under that post regardless if you post a thank you.
~If someone is breaking the forum rules, then you are urged to hit the "!" button at the bottom left of their post and report them.
~If the thread has a poll (at the top of the thread), then you should participate. It only takes a second, and your opinion matters.
~You should rate the thread (at the top of the thread) immediately if it has helped you a lot. If not, give it a little time before rating and dont be quick to give a bad rating.
~If you benefit from software that you have used here, you should donate to the developer. Any amount is appreciated, and this will motivate them to keep providing the service that you use.
~Be patient and do not make another post about the same thing twice. If no one answers within 24 hours you could send a private message to the maker of the thread politely asking for direction.
This is something I put together real quickly to point new members in the right direction and once again i did not go over every single option or detail. Feel free to ask any questions here, or to request more information regarding a certain topic though. And if you see any mistakes please point them out so that i can correct them. Also, if anyone would like to make photos or videos outlining these things, then i will be happy to add them and give credit. In the meantime i will attach photos as requested. Thank you for reading and good luck on your XDA adventures!:good::good:
