Hi All,
I got into this frustrating situation, I was on holiday and my Nexusus 5 went into upgrade mode to 4.4.4 I left it there after 4 hours it was locked on the boot logo with that 4 circle animation. It won't pass that screen. I decided to wait till I get home to try to do a manual update so I downloaded the
c08cce45be6d759d6fd29480f01128b18f7d4a11.signed-hammerhead-KTU84P-from-KTU84M.c08cce45.zip
And did via adb an upgrade from the device it said it was successful but it still won't boot.
I have all my photos from my holiday on the phone and that is preventing me to factory reset.
Is there anything I can do? or is really losing all my data and factory reset the only option? Maybe with a sdcard recovery tool I could try to recover the photos?
Cheers
Did you have a custom recovery before this?
All options are listed in my nexus 5 data recovery thread. Click signature to find it...
But if you don't have an unlocked bootloader, recovery is massively impaired

A factory reset does not touch the Internal SD Card. Your photos are safe. Factory reset should get you to boot. You will have to download your apps again but anything on the Internal storage like photos and music are safe unless you wipe internal storage in recovery (not an option in stock recovery)

Yes it does! In stock recovery, everything in /data is wiped including/data/media/0 or /sdcard if you will
Only custom recovery reset ignores /data/media/0

Hello to everyone. I have a great problem with my Nexus S. Today I have done a factory reset, format sd and format system from clockworkmod recovery to install another rom (Jellybam rom). I've do this but now the phone doesn't boot. I see the first image with the lock in the bottom of the screen then only a black screen. I can go to the recovery yet. Is there a possibility to restore my phone?? Thanks for answering.

Yes of course. You have formatted your SD, which shouldn't have been done.
In CWM, mounts & storage > mount USB storage and transfer to ROM and Gapps files.
Flash them and you will boot just fine. In future make sure not to wipe/format SD.

Thank you now I can use my phone again. I have installed cyanogenmod 10.1 instead of Jellybam that doesn't work. I hope I will have no problem with this one like in the past.
So, firstly I'd like to explain a bit about my device.
It's currently Rooted, has CWM installed and it's on Cataclysm Rom.
When in recovery mode, it usually takes longer than it used to when clearing the cache. It takes 4 mins???
When in recovery I install roms for this device, they usually don't work. I wipe data/cache. and install the .zip.
It boots, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it loops.
Then when restoring the backup I had made. I boot into recovery mode, and go in restore backup it says. E: Cannot mount Storage.
I leave the Nexus for a day whilst switched off, then go into recovery it mounts storage... Sometimes it doesn't detect it, sometimes it doesn't.
So my question is, is my phone damaged in any way?.
Try twrp

If you want the CWM UI, go for Philz Touch!

Just reflash the latest zip recovery of recovery and try again

Maybe your partitions are screwed up somehow. If you keep having issues, grab all your stuff off your internal SD and back it up one of the times it does boot, then use the factory image from Google to flash back to 100% stock. Factory reset in stock, then redo everything from scratch and try using TWRP. A hint to, in TWRP in settings check "Use rm -f instead of format". Tends to give me less issues.
I have CyanogenMod installed on my phone (newly rooted user) and I downloaded this app and it flashed kernel or something? It rebooted the phone and since then I been stuck on boot screen with Google logo. I went into recovery but when I try to wipe/factory reset it says "E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] Formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure...."
Even though it says at the end Data wipe complete, I reboot and Im still stuck on boot screen. Whats going on?? Need some urgent help with this
Just reflash the rom zip if you haven't just wiped the internal memory

I just got my Nexus 5 a while ago and I just unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP and as soon as I opened TWRP it basically crashed and rebooted the phone is a boot loop but now when I go to TWRP the log says Unable to mount /data and I can't do anything. Does anyone have the solution? I knew I shouldn't have rooted -_-
Have you flashed a stock cache.img yet? Thats usually the first thing to try.

Uhh
Not yet right now I'm currently using Wug's Toolkit and seeing if that helps then i'll try that. Do you have the link by any chance?
OH thank GAWD its working again thanks for your help though
what did you do in the toolkit?
Generally the consensus here is to not use toolkits. There are 2-3 "Johnny Opposite" members, but the masses of senior members see them as a bad thing.
I explain what happend.
You opened bootloader, but you flashed twrp instead of start the phone to let stock recovery finish the formating. You flashed twrp and rebooted to twrp. Twrp found the commands in the memory or on the misc partition to do a factory reset then reboot, but that format command is not compatible with twrp, so that commamd was skipped and then twrp rebooted your, because that was the next command in the line. Now your started booting with an unformated cache and data partition. The easiest way to solve the issue is to do a format data in twrp to format data partition then a factory reset to format cache.
So In the toolkit I basically flashed the stock rom and it basically factory reset EVERYTHING so now its working again thanks for the help! Now to try this over again

Yeah so I forgot to reboot before flashing recovery and entering that so now that I crossed that bridge I don't have to worry Wooh thank goodness I thought I totally messed up
Hi folks.
I'm facing a really weird problem. My friend's N5 doesn't want to boot with Lollipop, it shows the boot animation, but nothing happens, more than an hour and nothing.
I tried to flash back to kit kat. It indeed booted, but just to say that the camera and gallery has stopped, and gallery couldn't find any storage. When I go to the storage section in the settings, it doesn't show the pictures, music and other sources, just available space, cache and apps.
I tried to flash a custom rom to, but they all give me bootloops.
I never had this problems with my n4, so i don't know what to do anymore.
Any solutions?
Flash lollipop with fastboot. Then boot into the stock recovery and do a factory reset. Everything will be fine.

I've already tried that, didn't work :crying:

You flashed the factory image with FASTBOOT and still had this problem? You sure?
Hmm. Try fastboot formatting all the partitions and then flashing the image again. Can't hurt.

Yes, i'm absolutely sure. I'm used to use fastboot to flash my Nexus 4. I downloaded the proper factory image from Google and flashed it using both flash-all.bat and manual input in the cmd.
I tried to erase the partitions, format using TWRP, and install a custom ROM.
With twrp I can see the the internal storage partition, and even mount it to access by computer. But when the device boots, it just can't see the partition.
I put a song in the internal storage with twrp just to test, and when the device booted it didnt recognize the song, but when I got back to recovery, it was still there.
It seens that the problem is in the internal storage, but I don't know how to fix, and what could have caused it.
* Sorry, my english is bad :/

Try wiping cache in TWRP.

Tried that. I first used fastboot erase, didn't work, and then I use twrp to format to another fs. After that, I flashed the image again. Still nothing.

I have wiped everything lots of times.
It's the first time I have a hard time trying to fix an android phone...
Now I flashed kitkat image again. It booted but with the storage problem. Then I update via notification, and it stuck in lollipop boot animation.
I will let it booting through the night. Or it boots after a couple of hours or the battery dies.

Yeah this seems kinda crazy. Usually when stuff gets messed up like this a factory image clears it up. In your case, I honestly don't know what else to recommend. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Replace internal storage, nothing else you can do
Nothing worked in the end. My friend will send the phone to tech support.
Thank you guys for the help.
:good:
