Hi
I have bought Photon Q 4G LTE on ebay. the device is amazing i love it. as i am living in Georgia (Europe) we have only one CDMA operator here. i took the phone to the service office where the service guys set up the device to there system. but they have activate only calls and sms on the CDMA network the phone is making calls and sends text messages but they couldn't enable 3g internet (they simply didn't know how to do it on MOTOROLA Photon Q 4G ).
is there any way to enable the 3g internet on my phone?
Did you check to make sure the frequencies your carrier is using is the same as Sprint?
If not, then it will not work properly...

my friend has bought HTC EVO 3D Sprint 1GB from ebay and it works fine on the local CDMA network - it calls and has 3G internet as well.

Not sure if those operate on the same frequencies or not.
I suppose make sure the APN's are configured correctly...? I have never tried to hack a CDMA device to work on another network. Not sure anyone else with a Photon Q has either - most who are hacking the device want to use it as a GSM device and they add a SIM slot for this purpose.

first of all thank you very much for respond i appreciate it
the point is i cannot config APN, in MOBILE NETWORKS APN settings is invisible when the network mode is CDMA or CDMA/4G or AUTOMATIC. APN settings are visible only when network mode is GSM/UMTS (on this mode i can create new APN,s) but when the phone is at GSM/UMTS mode it losses signal and is not able to make calls.

I just got off the phone with Telus and what they told me is that they are releasing ANOTHER TP2 on the GSM network and that I would have to buy another phone TP2 just to get onto the GSM network.
This being said, is there any way to modify the radio signal in my CDMA phone to read both CDMA and GSM, or atleast get more speed out of my phone for connectivity to the net?
*update
I just got off the phone with HTC and the lady I spoke with told me, that to change the radio frequency I just had to change the ROM. That being said IF, I put a Telus HSPA ROM on there the phone should be capable of working on the network. Now that being said. If this is possible would it not be possible to run on both networks, CDMA and HSPA, making the signal control software dependent, meaning I have CDMA controls for standard phone calls and HSPA for running the highspeed network?
Update in previous post.
Eazy, just HardSPL and security unlock your radio bro...Only then you can use the GSM networks in your country (I'm guessing it's US)
But you can only activate one at a time. Either GSM only or CDMA only..CMIIW..
Just my 2 cents
Actually it's Canada
Right but if I unlock the phone, and switch it back and forth on and off the networks, how would that affect my account, could I hide the fact i was doing this?

I have this phone on Telus...I got it unlocked and I put my work sim card in this phone and it's on rogers. I switch networks when necessary....If you get a Telus sim card you would be able to use it GSM.
You should be able to pick which network you use. I saw it in phone settings, I think.

TELUS does not provide GSM at all. They are CDMA and UMTS.
So does this mean its possible. If i have a CDMA Sprint HTC Touch pro 2. That i have the potential of using it on At&t in the US?? All i have to do is unlock it?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!
And if one does unlock a radio on said Telus phone, can one use both radio frequencies, thus enabling both CDMA and HSPA frequencies?

So Telus new 3G network is not GSM? It does have drop down menu showing "Send SMS over" GMS and CDMA. GSM is selected by default.
so my last phone was the evo 4g and there was certain things you can do by accessing epst for example by dialing ##3282#
well i wanted to know if there is a way of getting this to work. or if its even possibe.
I have the epst.apk file that i would always use, its from a 2.1 rom.
so far i've tried the temp root then installing root manager and moving the file to system>app>epst.apk and installing it but its not as easy as when the phone is completly rooted.
the attached file is the file i would use with my evo
That's cdma only. Gsm works different. What were you trying to change?

o ok well that makes sense. I really wanted to look at some of the settings, mainly cause the coverage map says i get 3g, but i only get gprs. which is slow like dial-up. but this whole gsm thing is new for me. I've had verizon for years then sprint and thev all been cdma.
You mean apn settings on a gsm phone. Check under settings; wireless and networks; mobile networks; network mode. Check "auto"

Instead of that nonsense you might have better luck locking it on to WCDMA only. It's under that menu or under Mobile Networks
Try: *#*#4636#*#*
Might be what you are looking for.

But, won't this disable the lower level data if you travel outside the 4G area? Sorry, I am new to GSM and don't know the terminology yet...

Yes it will. You'll get no data connection at all if you lock it to WCDMA and are in a non 3G/4G area.
*#*#4636#*#* ... Phones Settings...WCDMA only.

Colleagues
Just recently purchased a goophone4GS (iphone clone) and all good so far but I am unable to get Internet connection on it. The WiFi works fine at home but I cannot get any data through my carrier.
I am with OPTUS Australia, the optus people tell me to switch on 3g but the phone is gsm not 3g if that makes any sense.
I am new to smart phones and just must be missing something, any Idea's?
Thanks

GSM and 3g have no.. relation at all. I'm using a GSM phone and it has 3g reception.

Ok I know my phone has no 3G capabilities, so I will go back to the question how do I get Internet? What settings on the phone do I need to activate?
Thanks
To address the above, GSM is '2G' and '3G' usually refers to WCDMA/HSPA. Most newer phones (except the cheap ones) do both, however this particular model is 2G only (which the OP knows ).
I assume this runs Android?
If it does, the APN settings for Optus are what you're missing. Try going into Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names and hitting the menu button. It will give you the option to make a 'new APN'.
APN settings for Optus can be found here.
Good luck!

The 4G signal that the networks worldwide use are not the same, GSM 4G is not the same as CDMA 4G, also, some 4G devices in the past were not true 4G, they used Wimax which is not actual 4G. My point is, the 4G your network uses is probably a different signal type or its bands do not match the bands the device supports. Research the exact signal type and frequency bands that Verizon supports, then research what signal type and bands that your network supports.
Many times I've seen 4G CDMA devices used on other networks and 4G could never be made to work, they were stuck with 3G because the device did not support the 4G type their network uses.
Most devices on other networks but still have 4G can count themselves lucky.
Thanks for your reply,
I flashed this rom (CM13) ; http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...m-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightlies-verizon-t3269675
my provider is "Djezzy" , and i think its 4g LTE.

You "think", no, don't assume anything, even if your provider uses 4G LTE, if the bands/frequencies of your network are not supported by the device's hardware then it isn't going to work. As I said the first time, you need to do the research to see what bands and frequencies Verizon uses and then do the research to see what bands/frequencies your service provider uses. I mean find the actual values of Verizon's bands/frequencies and the actual values of your networks bands/frequencies, you need to compare them to see if the use the same bands/frequencies, not just whether its 4G or LTE or not. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Also, their may be radio/modem incompatibilities, the radio modem is part of the stock firmware that remains on the device, ROMs are just the system partition and not the whole operating system, software that is under the ROM is still the software the device came with or had before you flashed a custom ROM.

Just got a S8+ from my brother and was having some troubles with it (can text/use data but not recieve/make calls) and found out that the cause was because the phone supported the 4G LTE band of my carrier but not the 3G band which is what my carrier uses for calls.
So how screwed am I? is there anything I can do to fix this?

Try in settings - connections - mobile networks and change network mode to 2g/3g or 3g mode and see if that works.
Note: I am still on nougat so settimgs location may be slightly different on oreo.

i've tried it and it didn't work as the specific model phone I have does not support the 3G band of my carrier (Freedom Mobile) so I can't connect to any of my carriers bands aside from the 4g LTE one

Is this your model

If so I would get in contact with your provider and see if is compatible with there network frequencies. apart from changing providers I am not sure what you can do.
If I've done my research properly freedom mobile is Canadian region apparently there are to modes home and away have you tried the away mode

yes that is my phone
i think away might actually work really well, how would i force it to only use away/roaming?
okay this is weird, so i turned roaming on, connected to a different carriers network (rogers) and i can text and data fine but still cannot make or recieve calls on a AWAY network....? does this mean it shouldn't be a network band problem?
it shouldnt be my sim card as my sim card works fine on my older phone fine (s7E) and i JUST got it replaced my the warranty service (to fix this problem, which it didnt). It shouldn't be the phone either as my brother put his sim back in the phone and he can make calls fine....... what is wrong here?
IT WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
changing to rogers did not work (not sure why? maybe they use the same band is freedom)
however afterwards i changed to telus and i got calls!!

If you mean upgrade to Oreo I do have some minor issues at the moment nothing really major for me to worry about if I do upgrade. To save going way off topic here might be better to start a new thread or I could pm you if you like.
