How to set the screenshot resolution? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, as we all know, we could capture the screen by pressing the button on the S-Pen while it is touching the screen. Is the resolution the same as the one set in the Camera app? Is there a way to set the resolution of screen capture and possibly screen video recording independently from that in the Camera app?

To get a screen shot at native resolution hold the power and home buttons simultaneously. A white border will be displayed briefly if you are successful. The image will be saved to your gallery.

The setting for the screen capture by either the Spen or the Power+Home buttons is identical to the native screen resolution. This can not be changed. (Not by any regular means. You'd have to find a way to change the entire screen resolution of the tablet itself.)
That method of taking screenshots is no more or less than pressing Printscreen on a Windows computer. It's build into the firmware. (And like everything Touchwiz, it doesn't have settings).

Thanks for the info. I was taking screenshots to post on the forum. The file sizes were so big that they could not be posted. I transferred those files to my Mac and used another application to reduce the resolution/size. Then, posted on this forum. I would be great if this could be done on the same device in less steps.

You can do that. Install Quickpic (It's a gallery app, works much better than the stock gallery).
Open it, open the photo, hit the optionskey --> Edit --> Edit (the one with the quickpic logo) --> resize (the icon with the four arrows pointing to the center). Select a size and hit the checkmark at the top right. All done

Yeah ShadowLea is right. Whether you use screen shot via the key combo or screen write using the pen stylus the resolution is the same. The images look different because the image is softened in screen write. One can only speculate why this is, my guess is it's probably too bring focus to the writing you're going to add on top of the capture. It's too bad this blur can't be disabled.

Freeware Picture Editor / Home background

Does anyone know of a decent freeware WM6.1-compatible picture editor? One that could be used to alter the contrast, brightness and colour of a photo?
I've found that very very few photos can be effectively used as a Home screen background unless they are very dark. The white & grey text become unreadable otherwise.
So ideally I want to darken some pics I have and see if they work better. It'd be nice to be able to do this actually on the phone.
Cheers!
personally i use photoshop..not a freeware..anyway what i wanted to say is that it doesnt need to be "made" for WM6.1...you just need it to be able to resize or crop the image..
TP resolution: width:480 x height:640

Photoshop isn't freeware. Nor does it run on WM6.1. It's not cropping the image that's the problem - the picture viewer on the TP allows resizing and cropping already.
The problem is altering the brightness, contrast and colours of a photo.
I'm looking to be able to do this on the phone itself, preferably using freeware. I already have Photoshop on my PC.
Hope that makes it a little clearer...
hi,
you can do very simple image changes using:

That looks like the baby, thanks, I'll give it a go!
Hmmm, just tried it out. It looks like it has the features I want, but for some reason, whenever I edit a picture, it doesn't save the changes, which is a bit frustrating!
For instance, if I highlight a picture, select Tools > Adjust, I get the screen where I can, for instance, reduce the brightness. Then when I hit the "Adjust" button, it just goes back to the file viewer, and the picture is unaltered.
Most odd!

i know its not freeware that what i said too
i thought you wanted a program that will allow you to make wallpapers, not that it would run on the mobile itself
Have you checked the Diamond section by the way?
Hi Jim,
I've just tried increasing the brightness of an image on my TP with XnView Pocket 1.40 and it seems to work fine. I can adjust the brightness etc and then when I hit the 'Adjust' button a message pops up saying:
The Image xxxxx has been adjusted and and has been saved into xxxxx_m.jpg.
It doesn't alter the original image, it saves the image to an altered file and adds the '_m' to the file name.
I've attached a screen shot of what happens on my TP, are you saying you don't see this screen after you hit the 'Adjust' button?
Cheers,
D.
Hmmm. It wasn't working with a particular picture which was about 8 Megapixels. I cropped it down to about 6 Megapixels in "Pictures & Videos" and then tried again in Xnview and all of a sudden it started working.
Perhaps there is a bug which causes it to fail if the picture is too big?
Actually I think I've sussed the problem - the original file was set to read-only!!! D'oh!
(Would've been nice if the app had reported that though...)
Ah, could be connected to the size of the image. I was using a file that was about 600Kb I must admit. I don't use this often to manipulate images but it is useful to have.
If you're manipulating large images then it may be a task only for your PC.
Cheers & good luck.
D.
I can also use commercial Resco Photo Viewer, but very good freeware editor is UltraG. It is an old-school software with many functions, but a bit complicated,so be patient to use it.

Why are my backgrounds like 60% white faded?

I cant figure this out no where.... Why cant i have my photo 100% color without the white over it? It works fine with the default wallpaper but when i change it, it has the white over it
open the picture using file explorer and open it... then go to menu and select "add as today background" or w/e it says... then it will allow you to choose your opacity/transparency. =P
It doesnt give me that option? I have Touchflo turned off if that does anything?
Also is there away to get rid of the picture when i hit Start?
When ever i hit start the picture is behind the list...
Anyone? this is really annoying and i cant figure out whats going wrong

ROMeOS uses File Explorer extended, which I noticed doesn't give that option of opacity when you choose to use an image as wallpaper.
So is there away around this? Regedit possibly?
Anyone?
.
I'd also like an answer to this, I'm using the latest RomeOS.
There may be other solutions too but here is one of them:
Open your picture from "Programs>Pictures & Videos" - while the picture is opened at "Programs>Pictures & Videos" click "Menu" and select "Set as Today Background". Here you have the option to set Transparency Level (Set it to 0 if to see it clear) and click "Ok". You should get unshaded clear picture.
Surprisingly, I could not get the "Transparency Level" setting when I try to set background while browsing the picture from file explorer.
Hope this helps....
Thanks pksher, confirmed working with latest build of RomeOS. (Start > Programs > Multimedia > Pictures & Videos is the path, at least for RomeOS, though)
The OP had forgotten the face of his father. ;-)
Anyway - the useful thing I'll add is that this method works even without using TouchFlo3D. I gave up on it a while ago - and am using my own background image. I also found out that if you use an image 1024x768 or larger - the image will fit nicely in landscape as well. If you use a 640x480 image, when you go to landscape mode - the left part of the image will be added to the right to make up the difference.

How to get a high res wallpaper

For some reason, no matter the resolution of the image I select for my wallpaper, it seems as if the tablet just zooms in on one part of the image and stretches it out. I have also tried selecting the largest section the gallery will allow, but it still just looks pixelated with a huge loss in background quality. Anyone have solutions?
HI Res Wallpaper
Download "Multi picture live wallpaper" from the market. Will solve your problem.
It's not showing up on the market for some reason. Do you happen to have the apk? Thanks
Here you go.
thanks man. I will give it a try
Might sound like a n00b question, but how to you go about installing this app? I unzipped the folder but there is no .apk file, and I tried installing the zip using CWM but still no results...

I opened the zip with astro. Apk was definitely there.
Once its installed you should find it under live wallpapers. Its not a seperate app.
Thanx to rapcon for the suggestion and upload.

Yup I kinda figured it out now, lol, I was using the iFile Manager that came with TnT Lite, but I guess its not as good as Astro, thanks

Thanks for the recommendation.
Is there another way to create wallpapers and set them so that they show up with better resolution?
I expect that there is a preferred size and file-type that android prefers. For example, the vegan-tab default wallpapers always look centered and clear, but when I set a .jpg file to be the wallpaper, I only see one top corner of the image.
Robeet had recommended 1024x1024 in the past, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the app, but unfortunately it seems to assume 7 horizontal screens. Sweeter Home uses 5 screens arranged in a '+' shape, so it looks fine on the main screen but the left and right screens don't display anything.
Thanks for the app post. I too have been struggling to figure out how to get high def wallpapers to work. I use launcher pro, 5 screen and have the settings configured to allow wallpaper scrolling. When I enable multi screen live walpaper, it still doesn't show the image as high of def as it should.
For example, I went to interfacelift and downloaded a 1024x600 nature image. When viewed in the browser (stock), it looks quite good. Very sharp and crisp. However, when I save this image to the sdcard, and set it up as the wallpaper in multi screen, it gets all blurry and looses definition. I've gone through all 3 settings of "crop/resize ratio" and none produce the same high def image as I see in the browser.
Is anyone else having similar issues? Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? I guess I should switch back to the stock launcher just to see what it does.
The image would actually need to be wider than 1024px due to the wallpaper scrolling. If you used an image 1024x1024 it would need to be stretched out to something like 1600x1024 (only a guess) to account for the area of image to left and right of the middle home screen.
EDIT: I'm talking about the standard wallpaper not the live wallpaper app.
Wallpaper
I have not got my GPAD with me so I cannot check but I suggest you find the default wallpapers and see what size they are. And place your wallpeprs in that directory.
I beleive the crop tools in gallery etc are not the correct aspect ratio for this tablet.
similiar question.. i read wallpapers should have 1024x600.. then i made some of my own. NOW i cant apply them. Stupid androind always asks me to crop them, so they look horrible. Dont know how to apply a simple wallpaper. Anoying...
A few of us with Advent Vega's have had the same issue,
I did some testing and experimenting with Launcher Pro, and at least have a definitive understanding of what you need to get 1:1 pixel perfect wallpapers..
THIS IS ONLY FOR LAUNCHER PRO!!!! I think other launchers like ADW use different wallpaper algorithms..
*Firstly, no matter what, you need to use programs like "Wall Switch" available on the Market, or "Wallpaper Chooser" (I got this via app brain), these inject the wall papers without resampling and ruining the image.*
The native resolution of the wallpapers should be 1200 x 1024 (W x H), It depends on orientation as to which part of the image will be used, but basically using this overlay I produced (Attached), you can see which portion of the image is displayed in the middle launcher screen, when you scroll to the other screens, it will just shift the image left/right to the full extents of the image width, so in Portrait, you get a lot of scroll, in Landscape, not so much!
You can use image sizes larger then 1200x1024, as long as you keep the aspect ratio the same..
I believe for ADW, the wallpaper size is different, over on "vega.modaco.com" you can see a similar thread about ADW wallpapers, I added the LP info in there as some people where using LP over ADW.
after a little more googling...Multipicture Live Wallpaper turned out to be great... the only one, after tested quite a few, that works, and we even get an extra if we want to change wallpaper often...

[Q] What's a good resolution for Wallpaper?

We all know Android's wallpaper scrolls left/right, so wallpapers are not the size of the screen's resolution.
Anyone figured out what the right size for the Transformer yet?
EDIT: So I used the app "Wallpaper Set & Save" and Saved the stock wallpapers.
Guess what the resolution is.... 1920X1408!!! crazy.
It's 2135 x 1408 pixels. More details in my list here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033811
this is all so dumb, I can never get a damn wallpaper to show what I want.

I modified that template that's been floating around - resized and I added some yellow shading to show sections that appear as you scroll between screens...
Hope this helps, or at least gives people a springboard to start showing me the error of my ways.

The first person who had extracted the default asus trees wallpaper image said that it was 2135x1408pixels, and I had no reason to doubt them. I think what most people aren't realising is that there's an 'overscrolling' part to the image, so when you get to the furthest left or right screen, it scrolls a bit more if you try to keep scrolling. That image posted in the tips thread wasn't exactly to size by the way. It was just a representation of how the panels are, and what screens you see them on. The top and bottom of the image are only shown if you bring up the apps or home menu screen respectively. I'll probably modify it a bit later.
You can use any image and it will stretch it just fine anyways.
Can someone size these so I see them on my first page?

Yeah I tried can't. I made it exactly as what I extracted from the stock wallpapers and still cropped all over the place.
This is really confusing/frustrating. argh.

A great workaround is the wallpaper slideshow live wallpaper. Just put your 1280x800 image in a folder and select the folder in the settings. Positions perfectly and doesn't scroll off.
here you go... when you go to set the cropping, put the box all the way to upper left and expand it to the bottom right all the way... that should set the image to the center home screen, with some black bars on pane A B D and E... these are inevitable unless if you can source an image that is extra wide... use the image i provided to create the rest of your wallpapers... let me know if you have any issues...
Man, it's really hard making a wallpaper that has a picture of people/things and make it show up correctly, even with the template.
With patterned pictures, it's easy but a picture of something it's hard. Easy to just make it centered and have blank top/bottom/left/right, but it's ugly heh.
I think the Transformer/Honeycomb treats the tablet when setting wallpapers as Portrait instead of Landscape. I'd prefer it Landscape like on phones, makes cropping wallpapers easier.
If you want a wallpaper that works good in both landscape and portrate try
1608 width x 1280 high works good for me
Has anybody been able to get a definative answer on the right resolution to use for custom wallpapers yet? I to have tried a few different ones and am having 0 luck

I created the template, which is just that a template so that people can tell what part of the image will be shown on the wall. The new crop tool in 3.1 helps resolve this issue, but its still nice to build them outside of Android for many reasons.
Never really thought about the over-scrolling. That maybe because I like static walls that do not move. Its much easier to design interesting layouts when they are static.
One think that YOU may be overlooking is the fact that using the crop tool to scale a larger image WILL NOT produce as clear an image as doing so im photoshop and making the image fit with the native resolution of the screen. Is it a large difference in quality? No, but for graphics nerds its noticeable.

These walls are not large enough to be used on these tablets. If you want a good spot for HD walls check out wallbase.net I get most of my walls from there.
On another not this is the EXACT reason why I want an alternative launcher like ADW or LP so that I can stop the background from scrolling.
I think a more important question is the aspect ratio. Can't find the sweet spot for both landscape and portrait wallpaper
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
You can't use 2135x1408pixels because when you go to the gallery to fetch the wallpaper you select the image and you are confronted by the 'selection block' (where you have to drag the area to select your wallaper) and 2135x1408pixels doesn't fit within the parameters eg: it's to wide.
If you want to use something that big use 2135x1700
after searching around and trial/error, i've found that 2048x1504 works fine for me...

[Q] Attached Pictures in XDA Site Problem

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, it is to do with the XDA Developers' site.
When I used to click on a picture in a posting, the site would show a medium grey layer on top of the site and this would show an enlarged picture with a X button at the top-right corner. If you clicked on this button, then the layer would dissapear and everything was back to normal.
Now when I click on a picture in a post the site has a medium grey layer sitting on top of the viewable (but unclickable) site. I don't see any picture and there is no X button. The only thing to do is to hit the Back button.
I can view the picture if I right-click on the picture and select to open it in a new tab.
I am using IE8 in WinXP. There is no pop-up block on this site.
Same thing happens here, if it is any coincidence, I am also on XP (Sp3) and IE8.
I reckon it has only been doing it for a couple of weeks or so, any XDA System Mods want to fess up to fiddling with the vBulletin settings, or cascading style sheets?
I'll attach a window dump of one of my own image posts. I had clicked on the leftmost image, but in practice it wouldn't matter a damn which. Also, it doesn't matter what the style chooser is set to, 2010 or Classic, the results are the same.
I just tested to see what happened in Firefox. When I clicked on the above post's attached picture, it opened a new page with just the picture in it. I had to hit the Back button to get back to the postings.
This problem only happened a few weeks ago.
When I click an attachment, a grey semi-transparent layer shows up and then I'm redirected to the image's address in the same page.
I don't get any redirection (in both IE and Firefox). My only option is to go Back. When I do this, the Foward button isn't available.
Same for me. Also, if there is more than one attached picture you used to be able to click on one to get the larger image, and then you could cycle through them all from there. Currently you have to open one, back, open the next...etc.
