Losing 10% in the first 30 minutes after boot - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else with a similar problem? I just charged my phone, it made it about 15 hours before it totally died. I feel like it should have lasted longer.
I just turned it on and went back to sleep for a bit and it's already down to 90...

Have you checked Battery to see where the power drain is occurring?
Sometimes Exchange Services will use a lot of power trying to sync.
This happened on my wife's S5. Unchecking unneeded sync settings in Exchange Services dramatically improved battery life.

Take a screenshot of the battery stats for us.

Recent Decrease In Battery Life

Within the last week, the battery life on my Charge has gone to hell. I used to go a full day plus before my battery died. Now I am lucky to make it through the work day without it dying.
Today, my phone has been unplugged for 3 1/2 hours and already down to 45%, and that has been with light use ( a couple of email and texts and one phone call).
What could cause this drastic change? I am on a stock Charge, and I haven't changed anything recently to affect the battery life.
I had this same thing start happening and from what I can tell looking at Watchdog the gallery is burning up the CPU, 60%+ utilization of the CPU and I hadn't even used it since restarting. I turned off syncing with Picasa to see if that helps.
I did a factory reset, and it fixed my battery life problem. After 1 day and 1 hour, I am still at 26% battery. Much, much better.

SERIOUS Battery Drain

i know there are a lot of other threads out there, but I haven't found one that talked about the problem deeper and has a fix. anyways, I'm experiencing a serious battery drain where I charge my phone up to 100, unplug it in the morning, go to school and leave it in my pocket for 2 hours, and it ends up being 70-80% and the screen on time isn't even on the battery stats because I've barely used my phone to have it show up. As im typing this on my phone, ive even lost 2%. Is anyone experiencing something similar and is there a fix for this? At 33% now, according to the battery usage, cell standby is at the top of the list with 10% and screen on time is 25 minutes . Thanks so much
Please post some screenshots of battery stats and someone may be able to help

My phone is the same way. Even with the latest update that made cell standby way better where it sits at 1-3% my phone drains like crazy. It's been off the charger for 3 hours and 1 hour of screen on time and it's at 57%. They need a bigger battery in the s7.
Check to see if you have a VPN app installed, Firefox, Candy Crush (or other King app), or a weather app. Many use mdnsd that eats power. King apps send data all the time. And there may be some adware that you have that is eating power. Hope this helps...

Battery Drain
I have had the same problem. With the earlier update I had the issue with (what I consider) excessive drain caused by cell phone standby. With the latest update cell phone standby has taken a back seat to Android System. Here is a screenshot from today. As you can see Android System has more than twice the percentage of anything else. I reset the phone a couple of days ago but that had absolutely no effect. Went to a local Verizon store to complain which naturally went nowhere.

I did a factory reset in recovery wiped cache twice and rebooted I have had much better battery. 20-30% higher when I leave work. I also kept WiFi calling turned off not sure if that was the drainer.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the OnePlus 5's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am not too pleased about idle battery drain.
Overnight, about 8h it consumes about 3%-5%. Sometimes more than 10%, if the device doesn't go in deep sleep for whatever reason..
If commute, it takes more battery (maybe sensors, switch to mobile data, etc).
About 20% in 9hours. wifi most of the time with about 1h hour on mobile data. And movement in pocket about 20-30mins.
My experience with idle drain has been good overall. Getting around 0.5% per hr
My idle drain is horrendous. I'm getting around 20% drain over night (7h sleep) with nothing enabled but WiFi. And that's with Greenify. I'm thinking of rooting and flashing the EX Kernel, but wanted to wait for an obviously outstanding major update before doing so.

Android System, Phone Services + Google Services, but only if WiFi/data is on. If they are off the battery life is perfect.

Battery was good until yesterday, 8hrs SOT circa. Suddenly battery starts draining and can I barely reach 2,30 SOT. Any idea? No apps showed in battery page, the only app I downloaded yesterday was Textra SMS (Beta), but it's very strange that it can drains so much.

For me Chrome was a big culprit for battery drain. Try to delete the cache and the storage of the app. You can as well disable and it and re enable it. That should be enough. Anyway, Chrome is a battery hog. I am thinking about switching to Opera or Firefox. Any recommendation for browsers?
I use Firefox with the add-on 'Dark Background and Light Text'. I have it set to turn the background of all pages to true black.
2% over night (7 hours) pretty pleased. But it was even better on OP3 when the drain over night was 0-1%
I'm on RR with no GAPPS and lost about 1.5% in about 8.5hrs of not being used (sleep + getting ready in the AM)
I have TASKER, and have set airplane mode to come on 8pm - 3am.
Currently getting roughly 2-3% drain in that "airplane mode" time

What the? Do you have gestures enabled (eg: double tap to wake)?
In my opinion it consumes too much.. one time i got about 3% drain in about 8-9h idle with wifi on and no commute.
That's why i hate android idle drain. A never-ending issue.
SOT only 34 mins, 1h mobile data, the rest on wifi.
I've disabled gestures, location history, no google fit, etc etc
Not bad here. About .3% per hour overnight. So about 2% overnight. That's on 4G as I rarely ever have my phone on WiFi. I also have email at to push (2 accounts) and I usually turn off the sync stuff in my Google account. Things like app data, calendar, contacts and the rest. I just sync when I make changes like adding a contract I then toggle the contacts on then off kind of thing. No need to let it sync all day and night for nothing imo.
I just have that drain when location is set to "high accuracy". When its set to "battery saving" everthing seems fine.
I don't know what's wrong with my device/apps. Several times now i had a standby drain in around 7 hours of 30%+. I didn't plug my phone in overnight because of Dash charging, when I went to bed, the battery was at 37%. The next morning I overslept massively and completely missed my shift because my battery died over night. This is with airplane mode on during 75% of the night. The highest drain in battery settings was displayed for "Android System" with around 12% or so, but that was with the last day counted in. I feel like the battery drain stats in settings are completely unreliable...
Except from that I get normal battery life during the day though, although during the first few days standby drain was higher than screen on drain...

Yeah man you need to download accubattery or something to monitor the drain. That's ridiculous. And yeah I've been kinda confused about the stock battery stats as well. It seems to tell you nothing.
I have noticed a lot more battery drain since the 911 update a few days ago. I was getting 7ish sot now I'm under 5hrs. I'll bet I'm not the only one who noticed it though. It'll be fixed don't worry.

I had AccuBattery installed at first but it didn't give me any meaningful insights so I uninstalled it a few weeks later.
I normally only get around 3 hours of SOT, but I'm not into mobile gaming or YouTube so that is normal...
I notice significant drain in idle after the 4.5.6 update last week. Android system seems to be the culprit, but not sure what's process under this is actually causing the problem.
All radios on, and 2 mail accounts syncing.

severe battery drain again pixel xl

I came here because I have a severe battery drain issue. Sometimes I can fix the issue by rebooting the phone and then not using it. This issue has been coming and going I think since android 10 but it may have occurred in android 9. I had this issue a few months ago and the issue stopped on its own. To workaround the issue I was rebooting the phone when I noticed the severe drain and then tried to avoid using the phone.
For example I charged my phone (pixel 1 XL) before I went to sleep. I charged it to about 85% at 11pm. I took it off charge and went to sleep. At 530am I woke and checked the phone to check the time. The battery was at 15% and in power saver mode.. Usually I get 1 day usage (6am to 6pm, with streaming music to my headphones at the gym and messaging throughout the day) and get home with 65% battery. This issue has come back again now that I am traveling abroad.
I reset the phone to factory yesterday and only installed webex teams and whatsapp. The issue persisted yesterday. At lunch, we spent around half an hour eating and the phone was screen off and on the table and the phone dropped from 65% to 55%. I decided to remove webex teams and reboot the phone. The battery remained at 53% for approx 2 hours. I thought eurika, webex teams is the culprit. But unfortunately last night the same battery drain issue occurred and I had to charge the phone again at 5am.
I dont know that the issue is occurring until it is occurring.
The battery usage shows no usage by apps during this issue, and same when I show all device usage - for example I'll have say webex teams using 1% and screen using 1% but the device has dropped 60% of battery and there is no indication of where.
I dont mind to install a custom rom but I have not done any custom installs on this phone at all at this point.
Also I never used NFC until a few months ago for the banking app which I used to have. I just realised NFC was on yesterday and I've just switched it off. I just wont know if this helps until later today when the battery is dropping quickly. Although it just dropped 2% while typing this so I dont think it has helped. I just turned on data saver and battery saver and will see.
I am at a bit of a loss - has anyone else had this problem and found the culprit or a fix?
Update - battery saver and data saver does not stop the battery drain. 2% drop in 20 minutes with phone on the desk with screen off.
I decided to give up, re-install webex teams and go for breakfast; while leaving nfc off, battery saver on and data saver on. At breakfast, the battery did not drop at all. Uptime is 9 hours 50 minutes (cant remember if I rebooted before breakfast) So almost 10 hours later and I have been using the phone over wifi on occasions and a few phone calls and whatsapp. The battery level is now 55% so it appears that the issue has gone away at the moment.
It's driving me nuts as I cannot work out a trigger. It almost seems like something within the android system is doing something and it's being hidden from the systems battery usage calculation. 3rd party apps also do not show any battery drain but the battery drains. If the battery was faulty then I would expect this issue to not get fixed after reboot (or even by itself). I have reset the phone 2 or 3 times now and the issue is still present afterwards.
Tried to google for answers and didnt really find anything apart from one guy saying his phone was draining and getting hot at the same time. Mine does not get hot.
I suspected malware or something like that but I dont see how it can be possible that malware is there after factory reset.
OK I think I have made some progress - although can't be sure because this issue does go away and then comes back! However, this time I am refusing to reboot my phone so I can work on it. I am flying back tomorrow at 4am and so I need battery to last as long as possible. I have installed all of my important apps that I need to use. Given the issue is there when I have only 2 apps, the issue cannot be related to the apps I removed so I installed all of the important ones.
What I have done now:
1. turned off dark mode
2. opened the app permissions for the "google" app and changed the location permission from "always" to "only while using the app".
GPS Location is always off unless I am using google maps anyway but it did not stop battery drain previously!
As soon as I changed the permission app for point 2 above, the severe battery drain stopped. Take a look at the screenshot. You can see the severe drain on the left of the graph. Then the very severe drain was when I Was actively using the phone during the issue. Then I charged the phone. Then I changed the permission and you can see the graph have a flat horizontal line which is showing next to zero battery drain! I do not have battery saver or data saver turned on anymore. And I have been using the phone a fair amount.
Touch wood and fingers crossed. May be this will also stop google from emailing me every month with a google map breadcrumb trail of where I have been going.
EDIT - uptime of the phone is 28 hours and counting. Although you can see the charging points in the screenshot.
I have the same issue. My battery was just recently replaced too. I'm going to try the suggestions in your latter posts and see if anything improves.

Question Phone is off, but battery is still draining

Is anyone experiencing a battery drain even though your S22 Ultra is switched off? I'm experiencing 4% drain every hour. 32% when every night when I sleep with my phone turned off.
I turn on power saving and extra dim using the bixby routine for the period that I'm in bed sleeping. It loses 1-2% ph
If you don't mind, can you try turning off your phone for the night and see how much battery percentage it loses? Mine went from 32% to flat 0% by morning. I had not realised this until recently. I tested in the morning by turning off my phone for an hour, it went from 60 to 54%. That's like 6% in an hour. But if I keep it on standby , it'll be 1% down in an hour. It's the turning off that is causing problems.
I know some laptops will drain battery power after shut down, but phone?
Exy or Snap?
Try checking in details with a battery monitoring app (e.g. GSam) to see what is/ are the culprit(s).
Also take a look at here for some useful tips.
It's strange that a lot of battery drain when phone is completly off.
In my opinion it's short circuit or battery is fault.
If phone is normal on are you see too battery drain?
When phone is switched off battery shouldn' experience any drain, or at least any noticeable drain in a short period.
Remember, when you bought your phone it came with battery half charged, and that was probably months after it was assembled and sealed in its package..
You should take your phone to a service or replace it, if possible
maybe somewhere on the PCB there is a short circuit. I ran into the same problem when using Xiaomi Mix 3 11 months ago.
