Mic not working during call - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been experiencing a very frustrating issues where the mic is not working during phone call. I can hear the the other person but they cannot hear me, and if they can it's very very low, so low that they can't make out what I'm saying.
However, the microphone does work again if I go to speaker-phone mode. So i know the Mic itself is working (sound recorder works also).
I think somehow the phone thinks a headset is plugged in and disable the mic unless I'm on speaker-phone mode.
I don't think it is a ROM issues as I have tried a large number of different ROMS, including flashing stock OPO image. None worked.
If anyone know a solution to this issue please help me out. It's very frustrating that I can't make phone calls and have to turn on speaker-phone or use a headset.

Try a different Kernel, had the problem with my 3 different Headsets, i tryed the same ROM with some different Kernels and with the AK Kernel everything worked fine...not with the Furnace! Also try to flash UKM over a Custom Kernel. Check out the AK Kernel there you can find everything you need. If you have done everything right as in the "manual" open up Synapse...there is a point called "Sound", there you can find the point "Microphone", volume it up and try again. if its still not working make a full wipe that your device loses all data and reinstall the original CyanogenMod 11s with this tool here or any tool you want!

If its still not working delete again everything with the tool, install the CM11s with this tool again, install the CWM Recovery, flash the crDroid Rom (best ROM and everything works for me!), flash GAPPS, flash AK Kernel and last flash UKM!
This is my current setup and everything is working

No luck here. : /
I've tried everything from flashing different ROMs to flashing different kernel. I even went back to factory reset, lock/unlock bootloader to wipe device. None of that work. Very frustrating. I'm starting to think it's a hardware issues, since trying out that many ROMs didn't help at all.

Yep, filed a support/warranty request. But god knows how long it'll take for them to get back to me. There's no phone number support or anything. : /

Hi,
unfortunately I have the same problem. I've tried to fix it even modifying the system/etc/mixer_paths.xml but nothing works (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...icrophone-ok-google-low-t2805568/post53914918). I noticed when that changing the values of hph-mic and anc-mic to 0, then handsfree mode doesn't work neither. Therefore we have clues to think the main mic is which has the problem.
Curiosly, I do not have had this issue out of the box, I think it began after 30O update. However I've downgraded to 25R and the issue remains.
I hope you the best luck
Regards

Cynogen 11s team is working to add support for CTIA headphones soon. See my post in similar thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55186894&postcount=25)

OK figured it out I uninstalled the latest hangouts update and made and received several calls all seems to be ok now

Is there any update regarding this issue? I still have this mic problem during calls and no clue on how to fix it.

OPO microphone problem is a hardware problem
Same problem here.
One morning main microphone in my OPO died - no one can hear me during call.
Recording sound with main mic gives some barely audible sounds.
tried reboot/factory defaults /root with fixing mixer paths - to no avail
The only solution is to call with speakerphone or bluetooth headset or normal headset.
Looks like hardware problem. Sadly OPO support sucks.

I have a similar problem. Did you find a fix? I did everything. Restarted, ROM changed and everything!

As I wrote - no fix - IMHO it is a hardware fault. Still waiting for response from OPO support in hope for receiving RMA.

I am also thinking to return the phone because of this issue.

Just adding that I also have this problem - phone was working fine until yesterday.
Now mic is extremely quiet in call, unless I switch to speakerphone then it works fine (Video recording sound is fine also, but Google speech to text etc is not working)
I installed Swiftkey last night but I think its unrelated

Has anyone found any solutions for this problem yet?

Yes, I sold the phone!

I´ve opened a ticket. I advice to do the same.
- They will send you a link, with the ZIP-file in this link you have to reflash the rom. But probably it won´t work.
- Then tell them that it doesn´t work (of course only if it doesn´t work).
- Apply a RMA request
- Send them your ONE
- Receive an new one.
I´m waiting for the TNT courier, at the moment.

same problem here. No response from support. now recently even the emails to [email protected] are bouncing back with error, cannot deliver your email to the address.

So.. I'm having the same problem now..
I can't even submit a RMA, as I bought the phone from a person without the invite - so I have the receipt and everything, but when trying to submit the RMA, I have to select the order - Which I have none of, isn't that just wonderfull?
Did any of you find a solution?
I've had Samsung GS3 and GS4 with almost the same issues now and it is killing me, my will to keep living with these problems are close to none...

[Q] Bluetooth handsfree problem

I have a Sony bluetooth head unit in my car which supports handfree and audio streaming profiles. I can play my music through the head unit just fine via bluetooth. I can also make and receive calls without problem when I am listening to the radio (ie when I am not listening to my own music). However, when I am playing my own tunes and I either make or receive a call, the head unit indicates I am on a call, it mutes the music but I just get silence through the speakers.
I used to have a Galaxy S Advance and it all worked just fine without too much configuration on the phone or head unit; basically just pair them up, make sure the right boxes are ticked in the bluetooth options and thats it.
Any idea what the problem could be? I've tried an upgrade to 4.2.2 but it didn't help...
Hi,
I have a similar problem. I can pair my s2 plus with cm11 from this thread to my car kit (Parrot MKi 9200). Playing music via phone on the car speakers works fine but when I place a call the receiving phone just gets loud static (and my voice very very silent).
I wanted to ask the developer of the cm11 I am using if he sees a way to exchange the bluetooth module (or what androis equivalent is) to the one of e.g. Android 4.1.2 because I know that one works perfectly. I am posting here because I havent reached 10 posts yet.
Of course I am open to other workarounds and ideas.
Thanks,
Kiesel

Same issue here,
everything (music etc.) is okay, but the phone connection.
I'm connecting to my Ford Sync.
I can connect, but then the quality of the voice is very very bad, I can hardly understand anything...
I thing there's a configuration file in the etc/ folder, maybe that need some upgrade?!?
Hope someone can help, because I really like to keep CM11 on my phone...

How is this message supposed to be of any help? Of course we know that. We have seen a lot of threads. I have read the whole bug report including all the comments on googlegroups, I have browsed dozens of websites and googled my ass of. What I didnt find was an explanation (at this point I dont expect to find a fast solution anymore). After reading the googlegroups bug call I thought it was a problem with the bluetooth stack that apparently is being redeveloped by google. But here cooldevelopment said it isnt a google problem.
I fully understand that it must be annoying for you to see this question a million times but please understand, that it is also annoying (and unsatisfactory) to not know whats going on.

As this is a bluetooth problem topic, i just want to ask one question. Can't use the CM 11 and ROM's based on it, because the sound problems with connection in my car. So back to stock ROM. I flashed the cooldev's kernel to get a better battery life, but after flashing, bluetooth makes the same problem as CM. Do you guys have the same issue?

Hi,
here is a logcat of a bluetooth connection during a call on stock rom/stock kernel.
What I did:
-start logcat
-start bluetooth
-chose a contact
-call contact-
-talk for a minute
-hang up
-stop logcat
I then wanted to flash the mosh kernel and do the same again but the last time I checked there wasnt this huge plethora of different kernels to choose from. Very impressive work!
Could you tell me which one you would like me to flash and I would then redo everything?
Hi,
I tried installing mosh kernel 1.8 and 1.85 (for stock, init.d enabled) on sazy rom but it didnt boot. It stayed at the very first screen you get when you turn the phone on. I then installed your cm11 build8, connected via bluetooth to my car and had someone call me.
Attached is the logcat.
Do I need the samsung stock rom for mosh kernel? I thought sazy rom was a stock rom?

Can't hear any audio during an incoming call

I am using a non-rooted stock rom based Moto G 2015, XT1550.
Sometimes when i accept a call, I can't hear anything but the caller can hear my voice perfectly, that is the mic is still working.
This occurs only once or twice during the day and only when somebody calls me. Unfortunately the 30 day return/replacement period is over so I can't return the phone and my network receptions seems to be ok.
Theses are the steps I have taken to try to resolve the issue on my own but without any fruitful result:
1.Tried factory resetting the phone.
2.Wiping cache partition
3. Rebooted the phone
4.When this issue occurred tried plugging in the headphone, switched to the loudspeaker,
placed the in-call volume to the maximum but none of this produced any audio output.
5. Tried testing the earpiece using the service mode *#*#2486#*#*, worked OK.
When I faced this problem I wasn't listening to music or using any apps(like if the audio was routed to the headphone port and not switching back to the earpiece).
6.This happened before and after the recent stage fright update.
7.Disabled OK Google detection.
8. Moto assist was also off.
My data and bluetooth are always off, I am not using any new or unfamiliar apps that might cause this issue. Could this be a hardware issue? Please advise me on how to fix this issue...Really need your help :crying:
If I could find any fix I will update this post soon.
Try flashing the stock firmware, maybe that helps it.

Mi4, CM13 echo in calls

Hello,
I have a Mi4 with TWRP and CM13, latest nightly from today, but the problem also occured on the nightlies before.
During calls the other party complains about hearing himself. On the internet I found ideas like:
- disabling the "OK Google"-recognition on every screen (although this held true for Skype-video-calls)
- lowering in-call volume
I did not find any other ideas. Do you have an idea?
EDIT: I also tried two things:
1. entering the following things -> no changes
su
setprop persist.audio.fluence.mode false
setprop persist.audio.handset.mic analog
reboot
2. disabling the mic while calling -> success, the other party has no echo anymore
This of course is no useful solution, as normally a mic is needed for calling.
I'm facing the same problem. Did you find a solution?
nope
Same here.
Posted this in another forum. After trying a few things it appears that microphone is relaying sound from the speaker back to the caller. It's like the microphone is too sensitive so it picks up the callers voice from the speaker.
yes, it is definitely a problem with the mic. as soon as you deactivate it, the other party has no echo anymore.
EDIT: I wonder if this is the case, because in the native MIUI there was a noise-suppression and dual-mic option which may be good for avoiding this problem. I highly doubt CM will implement this specifically for this phone. Right now I am always calling with a headset which works fine.
EDIT: Headset isn't working anymore too. Callers say I am way too silent. Soundrecorder App confirms that mic sensitivity is too low.
I think the solution might be here, thought I am not able to understand completley what they are doing there: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/NIGHTLIES-2619
It should be solved after installing the next nightly:
https://www.cmxlog.com/13/cancro/
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/139932/
Could someone pls give a feedback after installing it? I switched from nightly to snapshot-channel and therefore am not able to check.

I'd like to know that too! I switched to nightlies now and some people I talked with say it's still there, some don't.

I heard from some guys using latest Snapshot that the echo is gone but when they make a hands free call, the speaker and mic is very quiet/ low. So probably the problem is not totally fixed right now.
I'm on Nightly 13/04 right now, no echo at all but the phone is turning of during call (after I tried to turn on the display). Is there another behaviour on the Nightly you are using?

Microphone not working...

My Google Pixels microphone randomly died after some point in its lifespan, but happened recently. First i updated version to Android Q Beta 1 (and it was working all right on that version) but when i updated it to Android Q Beta 2 (microphone stopped working and whole UI experience was buggy, some apps not working, random restarts, etc...) but then i got it back on Android Pie, and it worked for few minutes into boot and died yet again... Then i installed custom ROM (Pixel Dust) with TWRP recovery and Root, but nothing of those helped, then i got it back on Android Pie via adb sideload OTA. That didn't help either... So i don't know is it the software problem (because it seems to work first few minutes after i boot it) or is it the hardware problem. I use my phone mostly for phone calls and now because microphone is dead, it lost its functionality... But speaker was working, earpiece and 3.5mm jack.. Any suggestions??
i'm having a similar problem at the moment. Since the April OTA update, phone calls stopped working. Even when using a BT headset. I tried reverting to Full Recovery Image from february, but that only helped a bit. Also, any other audio app was not able to use the speaker. With the Feb version, youtube and google music were back working, but phone calls are still not possible, causing the telephone app to freeze. I was thinking about installing some custom rom too, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Did you try to wipe the cache in recovery?
Update

You could try enabling the "Disable USB audio routing" in developer options and see if that works for you. It did work for me

Maybe is a kernel error..but definitely is not a hardware problem. maybe try changing kernels. o downgrading to 7.
since none of the above tricks worked in my case, i booted TWRP to clean the caches. Didn't bring any good result. So i flashed ElementalX Kernel and now i got some kind of a better result, even if it's still weird. Everything works now except incoming calls. I can actively call other persons, use whatsapp or facebook audio calls and all is good. Only if i receive calls, still mic is muted.
I will try everything from above, and hopefully something will actually work and get my Pixel back in life. I will get you updated guys.
Thanks for the support.

18.1 hotdogb phone app issue

I hope this goes to the right place, if not can someone direct me to where it goes.
I'm having an issue with what appears to be the phone app. i can call out but when the recipiant picks up all they here is a beep like a old school fax whine. I've searched this issue and I'm at a loss. Phone is Oneplus 7t with 18.1 hotdogb with no Google.
Thanks for any help,
Lowdownin
It is not just the phone app from my digging. I am also having the same issue with Signal, as well as another dialler I have installed to test. It also happens when using a SIP client both in the Phone app and separately (Mizudroid).
Regardless of how the call is made (inbound to me or outbound to another), all they hear is a high pitch tone. I can hear them fine. Hitting mute stops the noise for them, however unmuting restores it.
I have checked and the phone records sound via the microphone and when in speaker mode and the playback is perfect.
As per @Lowdownin928, I am at a loose end. I am in the process of downgrading and will report if that has an effect.
New ROM released today, tried that first - https://download.lineageos.org/hotdogb. No change.
Downgraded to the last before the one I was having trouble with - lineage-18.1-20210926-nightly-hotdogb-signed.zip - however this has the same issue.
At this stage I cannot work out why the ROM could cause this but then using other ROM's does not fix, even when doing a full wipe. Something else is going on.
Am looking at reverting to a t-mobile or international ROM to go way back and see what happens. If that does not fix it then I am stumped, as it seem to not be hardware. Very, very strange.
OK, so have installed an original t-mobile version of Android 10.0.3 for the 7T and low and behold, it works perfectly. No issue with outbound calls from SIM or SIP, did not bother testing further.
For reference, factory default t-mobile rom I used was at https://onepluscommunityserver.com/list/Unbrick_Tools/OnePlus_7T/T-Mobile_HD63CB/Q/, put phone in EDL mode and run the MDM. Came up fine.
Proceeded to System Update to v. 11.0.1.4.HD63CB. Reboot then tested for outbound noise on calls - no problems at all.
So at this stage the only way to fix this is to revert to the stock ROM, even with 11 it works fine. I have no idea what has happened with the LineageOS ROM but there is a fault somewhere. I am heading off to ask the question (and hope you will as well) but hope all this detail gives you an idea of where to go.
Just had a thought - there may be other ROM's that work fine, it could only be LineageOS that has this issue. If you don't need the feature set then look around in here.
Super surprised no-one else has had this issue, but there you go.
Success. Thanks to LuK1337, Lineage Team Member on the Reddit Support area this seems to have cleared the issue.
---
T-Mobile firmware isn't supported, you can flash retail one by following https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/hotdogb/fw_update
---
So bootloader, flash lineage recovery, enter fastboot mode inside lineage recovery, flash all the .img's as laid out and then follow the rest of the install. Took a long time and careful reading but this was the key for the phone noise.
Thanks LuK1337.
Just wanted to let you guys know that I was also having the same issue and this solved it for me. Thanks so much dmc.kiint and LuK1337
