Want to change your boot animation, but dont wanna mess with ADB?
Download the desired bootanimation.zip
Put on root of SD.
Rename chosen boot animation to bootanimation.zip
Open up Root Explorer, navigate to root of SD long press the bootanimation.zip file, and select move
Navigate to /system/customize/resource
Click Mount R/W
Click paste, and overwrite the existing file.
Reboot.
**NOTE: you may want to back up the existing boot animation first, in case you dont dig the new one**
I can only verify that this will work with the HTC EVO. Im not responsible if you accidentally mess up your phone.
The directories may not be the same for every rom...
How do I get this to work on the CMod7 RC2, I go to file manager system/media and I see the bootanimation.zip file but it wont let me delete or move it...Any ideas?
The built in file manager for cm7 does not mount the system partitions as R/W which is required. I actually have not found a single file manager that *CAN* mount cm7 system partitions as R/W.
I tried Root File Explorer, ES File Explorer and Root System Explorer. All 3 crash the phone when attempting to mount the system as R/W
I used Root Explorer running CM7 Rc2 on my EVO to change my boot animation and it we worked fine.

Running Android Revolution HD 5.1.6 by mike1986So I downloaded the Call of Android boot animation using the Absolute System app. I copy/pasted into the /system/media/ where it should be using Root Explorer (File Manager) app. So after I pasted it in there, I rebooted and it didn't work.My question: Is this boot animation compatible with my phone? If it's not, oh well. If it is, did I do something wrong or is there something I didn't do?
Thanks in advance.

Check the android revolution thread and see what it says about boot animation. Make sure that's where its supposed to be for that rom. Also did you rename it to whatever its supposed to be named for that rom. I'm not sure if its bootanimation.whatever but look into that too (rename it to whatever the name of the file was you replaced).
You can replace HTC boot animation with any custom boot animation. Just replace bootanimation.zip in data/local

So I put it in /data/local and restarted. Nothing :/

My bootanimation.zip file needs to be located in system/customize/resource for the ROM in my sig. Dig around for where the file is supposed to be located for your ROM.
Edit: Also what the file name needs to be.
Well mine is in system/media/ and it's bootanimation.zip. I even tried installing it in clockwork recovery.

Just copy the file there using a file manager and re-boot. I don't think you need to flash a boot splash. That's all I do in my ROM. Just make sure the file is named correctly.
Well I put it in there, reboot and after it shows HTC, it goes black until sense loads
downlod your fev boot animation file from google
or the one provided here in QVGA only
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744893
unzip it in pc remove bootanimation.zip from it and copy to your SD card
1. Using any root explorer app, rename (or delete, just make sure you have a backup) the 'samsungani' file to located in /system/bin
2. Rename the file 'bootanimation' (also located in /system/bin) to 'samsungani'
3. Now put the bootanimation.zip of your choice in /system/media folder
In some cases the samsungani will not be available so replace with samsungloop
thanks, =) i replace with samsungloop.
by the way do you know how to flash a kernel in this phone? i tried with the boot.img but did not work.
Do we need to root or flash the phone for doing this ?? Please help i am a noob in android related stuffs
rooting is required to use root explorer
and root explorer is required to replace in system/media

I flashed Humble 4.22 and I really don't like the animation. I would also like that robotic DRROID sound back. Does someone have the original files with instructions on how to change it?

First,
download the boot animation from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/bootanimation.zip
and the bootup sound from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/PowerOn.wav and place them on your sd card.
Next, use root explorer and go to SYSTEM/media and rename the"bootanimation.zip" that is in there to "bootanimation.zip.bak" then copy the stock animation from your sd card to the system/media directory.
For the sound file, copy the "poweron.wav" from your sdcard to SYSTEM/etc using root explorer. Reboot and enjoy. =)

On ES file explorer the file in /system/bin/ is "bootanimation"
I can rename it to "bootanimation.bak"
Then I can paste your file, which shows up as "bootanimation.zip"
Will this work? I am afraid to reboot and try

Sorry, good catch. bootanimation.zip needs to go in system/media. I'll edit my previous post.

May have been a bad download. Try downloading the one from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247131
And trying again.
Well it looks like the bootanimation in that thread only contains a black frame. So unless you can find another source or someone who knows more than me replies you're stuck with the humble animation (Unless you want to just keep the black screen). Sorry.
To go back to the humble animation just delete the new bootanimation.zip from system/media and remove the .bak from the original humble animation.

I flashed that it gave an error during flash and nothing changed.
EDIT: I read the above post
Im trying to install a custom boot animation on the recently-developed Cyanogenmod 9 ICS beta ROM (4.0.3) by Lupohirp (for my Optimus T) and I used ES file explorer to navigate to the either the /system/media directory or the /data/local directory and are having problems getting it to work.
Is it a ROM dependant issue why it won't show the custom boot animation?
Because when I put the bootanimation.zip file in the /system/media folder, it still defaults to the vanilla Android flashy logo.
If I try to paste it to the /data/local folder, it will come up with an error saying "bootanimation.zip paste failed!"

you need to make sure it's going in the right folder, some ROMs point to different places.
you also need to make sure you've given ES root and r/w mount privilege so it can paste stuff where you want.

It'll take me a bit to ask the creator of the rom since i need 10 posts, but I thought it could be a reason for where the ROM looks for the boot animation.
As for the root and read/write privlieges, i have set ES to request root from SuperUser and know which privileges i need to set (rw-r--r--) as informed by the creator of the boot animation.
Have you tried a boot anim utility?

No, but as soon as you posted that, i googled it and its an actually app. thats pretty cool ill try that.
Note: i tried again yesterday to get a boot animation to work and finally got it to paste into /data/local with rw-r--r-- permissions and even tried pasting it into /system/bin, but it wont work. Just boots up with the white LG logo on a black background, then to the lockscreen.
EDIT: Apparently there is no support for boot animation in this ROM for now, and its clear why it doesn't show one anymore at start up. i guess it did before, but now it doesn't.
Ill just wait to see how its updated in the future, but for now, thread resolved.
