[Q] "There is insufficient space on external storage" - Google Play - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
I just bought the GTA San Andreas and GTA Vice City on Google Play, but if i would like to download one, this message shows up:

Alredy tried:
- Stop Google Play, and services and clear cache/data
- Remove Google Accound, and Re-enter
- Download the SDK and re-set the default install location to (2)External Storage
- Try again (~35x)
My device:
LG F70 + 16Gb Kingston microSD card (witch working fine for everything else)
Yes, the device is rooted!
Thanks for helping me!

You'll probably need a solution along these lines:
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-f3/801368-mod-app2external_sd-fixed-duplicate-files.html
Lots of info and explanation of why there's not much storage despite what the system might say can be found here:
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-f6/819792-proposal-theory-external-sd-storage-solution-f6.html
*I know they are different phones but very similar and a lot of the same issues and types of fixes apply even if they need to be modded slightly for yours.

Okay, i do the things on the first link, but the download is still not working. I think, that stuff just good, if my phone has more storage than the game, but the F70 has only 1Gb free space for users.
If i download the game by torrent, and place the "com." folder to SD Card\Android\obb, install the game "Download failder because the external storage is full", but my SD card has 10Gb+ free space...

UPDATE:
I downloaded Real Racing 3 and when the default storage is the SD Card, that game can't download to the SD card the data too. Fortunetly that game only 600Mb, and after download, i could move the whole game to SD Card.
San Andreas and other big games still can't run.

Anyone who is complaining about 1gig to store apps please go away
But really this isnt an iPhone apps are not 500 megs 1gig is plenty for the average person
ive never ran out or room on 512mb. plus you also have apps 2 sd storing 50% or more of the data on 14gb flash
on my i9000 i had 130 mb from 1,85 gb used. so i think the 1 gb would be enough space for me!
I also suppose it comes down to what type of user your are. If you are into games, I have read that there are some impressive looking games on the horizon. These games could end up eating up a lot of space. That being said I am sure there will be a workaround developed to the 1GB limit.

Well the maximum space allowed for any app is 50megs. Google recently raised it from 25megs.
It should be a market requirement that if your app is over 10MB that it must support apps2sd

Didn't realize that, well than there should be plenty of space.
What games can do however, is have the basic install small, but when you launch it first time, it'll download whatever data it needs and save to SD.
That's what happens for Pocket Legends and Dungeon Hunters. The latter from Gameloft downloads around 250-270 MB to your sd card, which is required for the game to work.

Salvage internal memory?

Today I got an idea: move my pictures and videos to /tmp, so I can salvage a lot of free space

. I only use about 1.x GB for apps
Is this a good idea, is it safe?
Will the system sometime clean up that dir?

Bad idea!
/tmp is cleared on every reboot.
If you want to use the internal storage, then use root explorer or similar and create a dir in /data and call it pics or something then store them there. The issue will be though that most gallery apps do not work with internal storage, you will not be able to look at them on the phone.
I don't get why everyone really wants to use the internal apps storage for personal storage, the issue is that any internal storage gets wiped on either a reboot if it is /tmp or if it is /data then a factory reset will wipe it.
Just go get a class 4 32GB sdcard for pocket change now, and be done with it.
Just my two cents, pence, etc...
Yes, I agree. 32 gigs are very cheap these days. If you look for a deal, you could get one for as low as 10 bucks. I've got one and I'm not close to filling it up.
WORD JIM!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT ID DO WITHOUT MINE!!
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I'm gonna be hard headed and try this 64GB MicroSDXC out......
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313310
Since I created the topic, my files in /tmp have not been deleted.
Not really about the sdcard, it's about doing some tricks against the system
Furthermore, QuickPic loads images and vids in internal mem faster than my sdcard.

[Q] SD Card Fills Up Too Fast

I have a question for everyone.
Are you guys having problems with the internal sd card on your one s?
My sd card gets filled up really quick. I dont have alot on it. Only About 2.6gb of Music & 1gb of Videos
Thats all... The MAX I have is about 4GB with some roms and gapps etc.
If you guys had this issue before how did you guys fix it?
I just barely re-formated my sd card to fat 32 on my mac.
Thanks in advanced

I've been in the same spot. I didn't think I put much stuff on my phone and kept running out of space. Then I found an app from the playstore called "Disk Usage." It's a graphical representation of your phones storage so you can actually see what's taking up space. In my case it's almost always forgetting to delete old back ups. You should try it.
Check it out.

Including SD Data as Internal space?

Hi
My phone keeps saying its full. Its not. Going through my installed apps it just doesn't amount to around 12GB.
Checking the properties of the Android folder including data and obb only amounts to 5GB.
It seems the phone thinks files in Pocket Casts on the SD and other SD based files like Here Maps data reside on the internal when they dont!
Anyone clarify this or figure out a fix?
Update: deleting app data of Pocket Casts and Here Maps didn't change anything..
There's still something not right as I went through and checked folder sizes of everything on internal and give or tale a MB here and there, there's nothing else other than the 5.1GB of data. Where is the other 5GB??
Do you happen to have Google Play Music downloaded locally and saved to SD?
Indeed I do...

Clear that cache and stored music. Use Google MusicManager for PC to download your music, that way you will not reach your 2 download limit, as it does not count against that limit according to Google when using the manager.
That way you can copy that music to your SD card and it will be in MP3 format.
No, that's not the issue. It only had 40MB of data. I'm literally stumped as to where this hidden few gigs are!
Highlighting all files including hidden on Windows or with File Commander on the phone only shows 3.9GB, but the phone thinks 9GB is used!
One of my work mates had something similar, was told to factory reset and start again and it did actually fix the problem
Did you try the clear cache option in storage settings? It clears for all apps.
Yes. Cleared everything. No joy. Factory reset in the end and that sorted it as its now back as it was with 7GB free. Assume it may have been some oddity from flashing UK generic over O2 rom? Only thing I can think it was.
Ah I didn't see you replied to this. Anyway, I noticed that Google play music does a funny thing where if you have saved music (not cached music) stored on the external SD, the space counts against your internal SD as well. Again, this is not cached music, but music that you've indicated you want saved to device.

55GB space missing on SDCard after deleting file

I use Syncthing regularly to backup some things from the phone to my PC and it works rather nicely.
Syncthing - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
However, it often chokes on big files, eg I wanted to copy some kiwix files (aka precompiled wiki) to my SDCard (the other way around which works also very well for small files).
Kiwix - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
Welcome to Kiwix Server
library.kiwix.org
Well, that full wiki has some 99GB and it got stuck. So I stopped Syncthing and deleted the remnant incomplete file... took forever, I got impatient and rebooted my fon.
Ouch, no empty space was recovered - I am missing about 55GiB "emptiness". Remembering vaguely that exfat is windows, I thought to just check it quickly in Win10... except it didn't work (check via properties):

Can anyone explain this? What would be the proper way to enforce a check and free up my space?
PS: The card is a 512GB from Kingston with read/write above 70MB/s.
AFAIK modern SD-cards support CMD38 ( AKA TRIM ) command.
Check whether the SD-card in question supports CMD38 command and if, then apply it.

Thanks! I would have expected a 512GB card is modern enough but no luck so far:
fstrim: /media/xxx/[email protected]: the discard operation is not supported
So I searched and found two apps:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ol-of-your-device-nand-chip-trimming.3038240/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...tility-for-android-no-root-necessary.4258765/
Feature set was limited (basically just on and off, cannot select mounts/devices). Tried to set trim at reboot, no luck. Next step was busybox:
~ $ sudo busybox fstrim -v /storage/8549-8438
fstrim: ioctl 0xc0185879 failed: Function not implemented
Yeah, unless there is another idea... I think I just reformat it today (and won't reboot my fon next time so quickly if it occurs again).
PS: When moving all my files from sdcard to pc, something did get triggered and a lost-folder popped up. Unfortunately it was only half of it, instead of 55GB now "only" 34 were missing
