Hello there,
If it isn't compatible for 2.3.6 then I suggest you use a custom ROM. (Android 4.0+) However if it still isn't compatible, then its not compatible with your hardware. The Galaxy Y has a ARMv6 architecture.

Try downloading it again, that happens with corrupt apk files.

If you want to save battery.. Use Ds battery saver.. Or try other similar apps

You can try using the kingroot app or the framaroot app. (download from internet and install on your phone, the apps aren't in the play store). If those also don't work, I think you'll have to install a custom recovery and istall the SU binary with it.
