I ordered a 64gb Sandisk SDxc card from a reputable place and I have had nothing but issues getting it to work with my phone. Tried re-formatting to Fat32 and everything else I could think of. I got a replacement card from the seller and I'm having the same issues with the replacement. I sync music to the card and it shows on the computer initially, then after insertion into the phone most of the data disappears. This happens if I use the adapter and if I try to sync via a cable. The card is a class 10 and UHS speed class 1. Any suggestions?
It happened to me that I lost all info stored in my SD card, I took it off with phone also off because I needed to swap sim cards, then after reboot, it appeared a message saying "blank SD card inserted"
I suppose it is probably a good sign I'm not getting overwhelming replies on this topic. I got my money back and will try from a different seller. Maybe they got a bad batch? who knows.
I'm using a class 10 samsung 32gb without issue
I was having same issues with a SanDisk ultra 64, however I have no problems with a SanDisk extreme plus 64g. Just for a test, I borrowed a SanDisk ultra 32g. Did not have any issues. Maybe I had a bad card....

Where did you buy it from? Only good place to buy sd or micro sd is a retail store. You really never know what people say to make you believe

I got it off Ebay. I ended up getting a refund. I tested both cards and it looks like they are either defective or more likely bogus. I'll be buying from a reputable source next time around.

I just bought two 32 gig micro Sd cards. They are made by Patriot. Bought off tiger direct. Class 4 I believe.
I put the first one in my Note 2, works no problem. I put the other in my wife's Galaxy S 3. It recognizes it but it won't let me create folders. Error reads creation failed. I formatted then tried again. I rebooted and tried again. I reinserted the card and tried again. I then swapped the cards and the other works fine in my note but the known good one still fails in her phone. This leads me to believe her phone is broken. But could it be the Galaxy's are just more picky about what will work in them. I hate having to ship the SD card back especially when it works in mine. For 25$ its borderline on whether to go through all the rigmarole to return it, you know what I mean.
Does anybody have any suggestions about what I can try. I'm thinking of trying my friends Micro SD and see if theirs works.
Would formatting in the computer help? What do I format it Fat?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Its just a chance that your phone is not supporting that card properly. It happens and it differs for different manufacturers. Neither your card is faulty nor your phone, its just that the card is not supported in it. Use that in any other phone and buy a class 6 card for galaxy. specifically from transcend or sandisk.
My SD card gets corrupted every time I reboot my phone. I'm using a 32GB Sandisk Ultra formatted as FAT32. The phone has CleanROM 5.6 installed (I've wiped, redownloaded, and reinstalled the ROM a couple of times).
Any ideas or experience?
Probably going bad. Mine did similar things when it was going bad. I formatted and did every trick I could find online many times to see if I could get it to work, nothing worked.
I ended up getting it replaced by SanDisk. Pretty easy to work with and I got it back within 7 business days.
I keep all my roms and zips on my internal and do not flash anything on my sd card.

Does the card work anywhere else? I had a Sandisk Ultra UHS-1 Class 10 go bad in mine as well. Some of the research I did I found out it was a common inssue with those kinds of cards, especially if they were exFat because of the way Samsung uses their own proprietary exFat system.
I've done a large write+verify using it in an SD card slot on a laptop and it worked fine. The card is only about a week old, and it's done this since the beginning. I don't expect Sandisk would replace it since it works fine in Windows but not my phone.
They should replace it. Mine was mounting and unmounting over and over again. They didn't have any problem replacing it. No reason not to call. The only downside is a no or if they say yes, you will be without the card for about 7 days.

If it's only been 7 days, take it back to the store or order a new one and then send this one back. That being said... I've had 3 32GB sandisks go bad in my phone, to the point of even being corrupt in Windows. I'm using a 64GB now, and knock on wood, it's been working fine for about 2 months so far... There have been a few threads about cards going bad in these S3's. Dunno if it's just coincidence or what.
I bought it from Amazon and have done a lot of returns there lately, so I contacted Sandisk. They agreed right away to replace it, so I'll do that.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Did you buy it online? If so it might be fake. Read more by googling fake micro sd. Apparently they make a 1gb memory card look like 32. It will just overwrite itself making data corrupt
Had the same issue with the same card. For me it was a hardware issue. When the card is inserted it clicks and comes back out a little. On my phone it came out a little too much and was losing connection with the card over and over and telling me the card was corrupted. All I did was push the card back in until there was resistance from the locking mechanism. Haven't had an issue since.
Now I say it's a phone hardware issue but really it could be that the card is too short or the cut outs where the locking mechanism holds on to are too low.

I got it direct from Amazon, and it held and verified 30 GB of data with no problem. It's definitely real.
I have the new SanDisk 64GB micro sd card, and lately ive been getting 'Damaged SD Card, Try Reformatting'
at first I just sighed to myself.. 'the s4 if another sd card destroyer'. I checked around the forum, but didn't see any similar topics, so I thought maybe it was just me.. but now my buddy who got an s4 on t mobile picked up one of the 64gb sd cards, and just got the same notification.. so what gives? *(pic related)

I've heard a lot of people having problems with the Sandisk cards. Myself included, my 16gb I had in my S3 got totally messed up.
I tried reformatting and it was a no-go, totally dead.
Since then I bought a 32GB Class 10 Samsung Card. Never had an issue since.
It may have to do with the formatting of the SD card. While playing around with my new Samsung 32GB card, I found my S4 displaying that message (even though it worked fine on my computer) every time the card was formatted as exFat. Fat32 seems to work fine.
I have that same issue, however, it also happened to me with my S3. I ended up have to format the card in the phone and copy everything back onto the card again for it to work. so far it's okay right now. This is still the same card, Sandisk Ultra 64gb micro SDXC. Both my wife note 2 and buddy S3 use the same type and they never had any problem with "damaged sd card". I'm thinking OP and I both are just the bad luck one with a bad card or two. I'm thinking of calling in for warranty from Sandisk to see if it's the card that's damaged.
This issue happened to me, but only once. After the OTA update, after reboot I saw this. But instead of formatting like the message suggested (I already had gigs of stuff on the card), I went into the settings and Dismounted the card and remounted it.
Haven't had an issue since.
Maybe you can try it to see if it works for you.
My s4 has been fine with it but when I had a skyrocket it was having major issues.

It is best to format fat32...period, no issues will ever occur. I have been using a 64g since it hit the market...it is so old there is no markings left on it..hehe
S4 here and 64gb class 10 that originally was in my S3. No problems yet. Think I might be fat 32.

Mine's Sandisk, Class 10, UHS-1, 64GB in exFAT.
Samung class 10 32gb pulled right out my og note and slapped in my s4 and have had no problems.

This is a common issue in all devices with sd's, especially devices that move physically.
Put 1 or more pieces of scotch tape on the non contact side of the card and cut to size. This will reduce the amount of movement of the card during write events to the card, which is the culprit of why these cards get corrupted.
Thats it.
32 gb class 10 lexar fried. Never had a problem until now.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who is having this problem. This thing destroyed my 16gb lexar that I've had for a few years. Mount option went gray, and I couldn't even open it on the computer. I was trying to make sym links to move my Google Music to it, but yeah. It's a little disappointing, but I wanted to get a 64gb anyway... Is the secret to use Samsung SD cards? Either way, it was time for a new one.
you know you could use the PC command chkdsk -r -f to fix damaged sdcards?
from what i've been reading about the 64gb sandisk cards, they work better formatted as exfat than fat32. samsung is one of only a few mobile phones that support the exfat format. when you try to format a sandisk 64gb class 10 card, it will eventually become corrupt. that's why they come as exfat. also, formatting it to fat32 will indeed slow down the speed transfers of the card.
this tool i hear works good for changing the format from exfat to fat32 without damaging your sd card. http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

I will try that when I get a hold of it again along with disk utility when I boot up mac next, but currently it's blue screening my laptop when I try to use it. (Running a bootcamp of windows 8 means weird bugs are lurking around every corner)
Happened on my Note 2, guess these new Samsung phones don't play well with SanDisk cards.

Friends s4 didn't like any brand but Samsung. I did however notice a lot of bad reviews on all 64gb micro sd cards except the Samsung one. Based on the reviews I bought the Samsung 64gb class 10 and had zero issues. A bit more expensive but you know what they say.
My 64GB Sandisk Class 10 has been damaged 3 times since getting my GS4. I sync my 40GB of music and takes all night to do this. It can be annoying, but when it happens I re-sync when I go to bed.
I have tried both a 64gb and a 32gb micro sd card and if I try to save or backup my documents on it sooner or later a few weeks down the road my Note Pro 12.2 reports that I have a corrupt card. I never take it out so that is not the cause. I do not have any apps installed on the card. I am not rooted.
All I am trying to do is keep my music, videos, pictures, and a copy of word and excel files on a micro sd card but I have no trust that my micro sd card is going to work.
I have formatted these cards using my Note Pro. I have formatted these cards using my Windows PC. But several weeks down the road I get the corrupt disk error... please reformat!
Is rooting the answer?
Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like a bad card to me. What brand is it?
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
This usually happens with low-class or cheap-brand cards.
In general you're best off only using class 10 or above cards by Sandisk or Samsung. Anything else is highly unstable.
I have a San Disk Class 10 64gb but my other card is a PNY Class 6 32gb. I guess I'll look at getting a Samsung? I believe I had read somewhere about this device not liking 64gb cards? Or maybe I read something about it not allowing files to be saved to external storage. Something Samsung was doing.
Anyway thanks for the input. I would like to use a 32gb card as I really don't need 64gb so if my PNY isn't going to work I need to get something that will.
How does this card look?

If that samsung is as fast as it's rated that looks like a good card.
I'm using the Sandisk Extreme Plus 64gb but have only had it for a month and a half. So far no issues but I wonder if it too will be a time bomb.

There's no issue with 64GB cards. There's no issue with 128GB either. Some of the older devices had issues with SDXC UHS-I cards, but that was over a year ago.
There is, however, an issue with Android KitKat no longer allowing non-stock apps to write to the SD card. That's Google's doing. It has nothing to do with corrupt cards.
Samsung and Sandisk cards are both excellent. Just make sure they're class 10 or higher.

What is the best method to copy delete movies to/from my micro SD card? Should I unmount it and remove it or should I power off my tablet and remove it. Or will it be better just to copy them from a USB stick to the card while the card is still in the tablet? I'm hoping to keep 10-15 movies on my card and swap them off to put more on probably every 6 weeks and I want to know which way is the best way not to harm my card.

Unmount the SD card through Settings --> General --> Storage --> Unmount SD Card.
Or connect the tablet via USBcable to the PC and copy it onto the SDcard that way. (It loads as a network device in explorer)
I've got 11 films, two shows and a handful of concerts on my MicroSD and swap regularly, I usually use one of these two methods.
For me, I use a MacBook Pro which for some reason does not allow me USB 3.0 connectivity to the tablet (driver issue I'm sure but try as I might I have never gotten it to work). I therefore use a USB 2.0 cable and Kies to copy files to the tablet that way. I'm able to pick the external card as a destination and transfer at USB 2.0 speed.

I just bought a new 64GB PNY Pro Elite microSDXC for this tablet, and every time I try to move a file, an app, or anything to the card, I'm given an error. It says unable to move. Not enough storage space. I read somewhere else that people had trouble with the 64GB cards, but the 32GB cards worked fine. Has anyone had issues with the 64GB MicroSD card?
Odd, I've never seen that issue on mine, not on the 64GB nor on the 128GB(which is my regular card).
Mind you, I only use Sandisk, and never a lower-tier brand. Too many problems when you use anything other than Sandisk or Samsung cards.
If you have an sd-card reader/writer for pc, googling you can find several utilities to thoroughly test your card.
If the card is OK and you are rooted you can try sdfix, a free utility that fixed random write access problems to the sd-card on my tablet after the upgrade to lollipop

Well, I found a few other people who had the same issue, and they used a command line app on their PC called fat32format, which formats devices above 32GB. They said it fixed their problem, but I didn't think MicroSD cards on an Android device were formatted FAT32.
Either way, as ShadowLea said, I normally use Samsung and/or SanDisk cards and have never had a problem taking it out of the box and plugging it in. I ordered this card because the description read 95MB/s read time, but if I'm not mistaken, Samsung and SanDisk both have cards like this. Since I just received it and have 30 days to exchange it, I think I'm going to send it back. I shouldn't have to use any app to get it working correctly right out of the box. I guess this is what I get from deviating from the norm.
