Download Google Buzz 1.0
just had to download the apk. installed, seems like everything works except GPS.
this is on AOSP 1.6 w/setcpu kernel and all that.
just install, and run. it will give you a screen about how its only for 2.0 and iphone, but there is a link that says "continue on unsopported device" just click that, sign into google, and thats it.
seems kind of worthless without location but maybe its just my area. anyone else have any luck?
I have Google Maps 4.0 running on gbhill's custom 1.6. Downloaded straight from the market and it's working without any problems.
Open your browser, go to buzz.google.com, tell it "Continue on an unsupported device." Done.
No need for this "web app."

Someone I know just tested it on 1.5 and it worked. Now, is there a way to install the new Map update on 1.5? I miss my Camera and Sprint Visual Voicemail on 2.1 ROM...
I haven't seen Maps 4.0 running on 1.5 yet but I did test the Buzz mobile site on a 1.5 emulator. Works fine.

Anyway to download the new .apk file and install it on 1.5?
I know it needs Layers to work something the 1.5 map app doesn't have.

AFAIK, the apk will not install on 1.5. It would be available in the market if it was compatible.
I have my voice mail forwarded to google voice, so I don't miss visual voicemail one bit.

As I have said on the 2.1 ROM, no Google Voice in Puerto Rico. Also, the 2.1 ROM is missing some key stuff and the lack of protected apps on Market hurts it. I am starting to miss my Camera too.
Is Youmail a better alternative to Sprint's Visual Voicemail.

that just loads the google buzz mobile web page, not the app. hit 'menu' while you are in buzz using that method, you get your browser menu...

Google designed it as a web app... I'm not all that excited about a standalone app, though I know others are. Personally I'll be using Buzz mostly from Maps and my desktop browser (via Gmail.)
EDIT: I just installed the Buzz app from Spartan Coders... it's *identical* to the main web app I get through Browser or Steel. It's like this app is a browser that only goes to one site and has no menus or settings of its own. I'll just make a shortcut to a Buzz bookmark instead.
Or is there some feature of this app that I'm overlooking??

Looking for a great text to speech app with natural voices. The "Talk To Me" App in the market is missing the SVOX Classic TTS Engine plugin. The better sounding natural voices "to buy" are no longer in the market. Any ideas for a language translation tool that sounds better than Pico TTS? Anyone have the SVOX TTS Engine APK?

Try Loquendo. It's in the Market. $4.99 Though. Only one voice right now, but it sounds great. More voices to come according to the website.

You mean Google is blocked by China. It's your country that is blocking you, not the other way around. Communism at it's best
I am not here for stupid slinging. So go away. FYI search google and you will find China is NOT supported by Google's market.
And BTW China is NOT my country, I just live here.
Here is Google Now for armv6 devices running ice cream sandwich, which I found HERE all credit goes to the developer on that thread.
I've tested it on ADLX's port of Cyanogenmod 9, and it does work. However, it works differently than it would on a Jelly Bean device.
Issues:
The realtime "voice typing" doesn't work, it won't even try and listen to you speaking! - Workaround is to install an APP which uses "Voice Search" from google play (details below)
Sometimes the web results comes up blank - Workaround is to force stop Google Search and it's fixed (until it does it again)
Installation:
Flash THIS in Clockworkmod Recovery
Reboot
Install THIS app to use the voice search feature
Enjoy
To use the voice search, you need to open the "Voice Search For Google Now" app which you installed on step 3. NOT Google Now.
Also after speaking, you will need to press the "Enter" key on the keyboard to complete the voice search
It's not perfect, but it's definitely better than the stock ICS google search, with or without voice search
UPDATE: Also works on CM10!
Awesome! I'll link to that in the OP+1 (First comment) of the CM9 thread
More details on what version of Clockworkmod that is, and what's changed about it would be nice, but otherwise, good work!

LanguageInput/Voice search/OK google detection
check all the 3 boxes and say ok google 3 times, click OK.
Just for info. After enabling OK Google everywhere you cannot record any sound using voice recorder as microphone stands by for any response from Google. There needs to be a kinda white list to exclude voice recorder. Maybe "ok Google for 3rd party activity" module (already available) be helpful in such case.
The problem that I don't have the 3 boxes I have only ok google from Google search app and I tried everything even ok google everywhere method ?

Sounds like you have the latest version. From what I understand, Google is activating ok google everywhere on an acct basis so that probably means you have not been selected yet. However, there is a workaround that you can try. Open the google now app and type in "ok google everywhere" on the search bar. This apparently activates it. Personally i haven't tried this method as i was activated before this workaround was posted.
Make sure you set language to English (US) in case you're using the UK version. Otherwise it doesn't work. Weirdly.

Try this, it worked with me:
1- Open google search app
2- type in : Okay Google Everywhere
3- Hit search
4- Hit menu key and choose settings, then choose voice, then choose OK Google word detection, you should find multiple options including "Ok google from any screen"
Best of luck

Ahem...
Let me start by saying that this device is definitely up there with the finest when it comes to build quality. I mean, this thing is smooth, beautifully machined, great screen, great sound quality, ad nauseam etc etc...
But! The dialer app looks like it's rendered in Netscape Navigator (yeah, I'm old). Not only is it impractical as F**K but why does it not default to my Favorites like every single modern phone out there?
Why does it insist to always show the SIM slot number next to every single contact entry, even though I only have one of those creepy micro soul/wallet suckers?
Why is the incoming call such a nightmarish affair and don't even get me started on the ongoing call screen. Ho God, the buttons, where have they hidden all the buttons?? Ho the humanity (or lack thereof in this case)...
Honestly, this thing creeps me out! I've started to dread the time when I hear my ringtone and just start doing my little mantra: please let it go to voice mail, please please please... You get the idea.
I'm like a phreaking Freddy Kruger victim, can't fall asleep or IT will ring!!!
In short... And yes, I understand the thread could be a lot less tl;dr, has anyone tried to sideload the Google phone app?
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the recommendation but yeah, it's classified as "not compatible" with device.
I've tried/read about a bunch of others and most push data to their servers (contacts list, etc).
Been reading about past efforts on other HTC devices to use the Gdialer but it seems to crash, a lot.
To get the google dialer, your best bet is to use magisk and install the google framework to be able to install it off the playstore.
I've done it on my htc 10 and it seems to work perfectly fine (tried it with stock rom, "stock" rom, and with leedroid which has the option in aroma installer to use it from the getgo) I definitely won't change it back and will probably do the same thing once I get my u11+

Judging only from past experience with another phone, you need to make sure to set the google dialer as the default dialer app in the settings, and of course also allow permissions for the app.

agreed. i should have mentioned that all permissions were set and the app was set as the default Phone app. no luck though, it still FCs when i launch the app (Google Phone). thanks for your reply.
Try this one of you have Google framework installed : https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-release/
Then, update it via play store. The only message I get is that my phone is incompatible when I start the app but it's working anyway.

thanks, but i tried that route already. version 7 works with an occassional freeze. updating to the the newest version via the Play Store works, but the newly installed (v15) Google Dialer app still FC's when i launch the dialer to make a call. one reason i need to use the Google Dialer is because press-and-hold the #1 on the htc dialer does not dial my voicemail. voicemail number is configured but it doesn't work with the htc phone app. works just fine with the Truecaller and Google Dialer. currently using a combination of Truecaller (using dialer to initate calls) and the Google Dialer app for in-call activity (set as default Phone app): i initiate a call via Truecaller and it connects using Google Dialer. Using SwiftBlack substratum theme for both apps.
Is there any way to install the Google Dialer app without root on a Dual SIM U11+ ?
I tried all the official versions 7.x-8.1 from APK Mirror and none of them could install, incompatibility error during install.
Is there any other possibility with G Dialer ?
OR an alternative dialer from Play Store ?

@Galactus thanks for replying. i believe i resolved my issue: it was a permissions issue that - for some reason - the request to approve did not appear when i installed version 15 (from apkmirror) on my device. i decided to factory reset my device add my google account (so i can use the nearby places feature), then install Google Dialer V15. i get the "This device is not supported ..." nag at first launch of the dialer, but that's ok. so far, all is working well and i'm good to go now. stopped working...ugh!
