Look for the stock Android camera.

I'm using the FV-5 camera (non-free). Gives you control over sharpening/post processing options and also a "raw" mode (png).
Did sony tweak the camera on kitkat? Or is it still so terribad?

To answer my own question, sony did in fact improve the camera quality with kitkat. Though it's still not quite good. In the past it had lots of sharpening artifacts, now it does not have those. However, the edges are now fuzzy instead of being slightly unsharp...

I need some photo samples taken by Xperia M2 in full-size after KitKat upgrade.
Thank you.

After kitkat upgrade the pictures a cleaner, they don't have that black dot's any more, that was the first thing i checked after upgrade
BUT still the pictures are far from great.
ll upload some pic's when i get home.

you can use Lomo Camera
Apparently if you use the lens from a laser pen over the lens of the camera you can improve the image quality.

[Q] Camera quality

I don't like the camera of XL. The UI doesn't look attractive, and the picture quality is also average. The colors look dull and the autofocus doesn't work even when the square turns blue.
So my question is can I improve my camera quality by using some other camera app, like samsung's. I know it's hardware but I believe that software plays an equal part.
plus will there be any difference if I use a custom rom that is unofficial. Like all the kitkat roms for XL.
And please don't suggest to change some settings. They hardly make an impact.

Yes, it's software issue. You can check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/general/xperia-l-post-best-camera-shots-t2333949/page28..we have some example and discussion about it..
The focus is horrible for stock..
You can install 3rd party paid app call snapcam or kitkat camera that support jb..
okay
so if it's the software, isn't it possible to port cameras of other devices to XL alongwith their libs or algorithms.
Because I believe that third party cameras will use the same libs and therefore same results.

It depend on what camera you're installed..some of them have their own lib that doesn't intergrated with sony's lib..
You just have to checked them

Use snap camera. It's better than stock and there's no autofocus issue. You can manually change some settings to get the perfect picture.

Hello I checked snap camera it really looks the most customizable camera I've tried
The focus seams to work fine but images still grainy, however I must experiment more with settings
I'll wanted to upload some comparison photos but forum has a small image limit
I found this quite useful too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/themes-apps/superior-auto-mode-xperia-lcamera-t2597255
And in another post someone posted some image quality improvements
Does this apply to the latest official update or only to the older firmware mentioned?

The above threads are useful for stock camera only. If you are planning to use the snap camera then no need for these.
Also the noise is a hardware issue too and not just software. I have tried the same app on two different devices and thus got different results.
Of course you cannot expect a very good quality from this phone but it's good
I am on the latest stock firmware and the picture quality of stock camera is good, the only reason I use snap cam is the autofocus issue. Otherwise some manual tweaks and you get the best photos from your stock camera.
And you can upload the images to any image hosting site and embed here.

Doesn't make a HUGE impact. It's the hardware I told you. Stop expecting 'Stunning' pictures from xperia L. Use snap cam or camera 360 for appropriately focused pictures.

So my question should be what is the best results using other apps except stock cam for better hardware use?
Does the kitkat camera app on latest stock rom works like it does on the kitkat rom?
Tried snap cam & camera 360 (quite improved since the last time I tried it with my samsung galaxy core)
Still haven't shot a correct macro photo, It is insane that a photography specialized smartphone does not have a macro mode

How could you even expect macro from a mid budget phone. I already told you that DO NOT expect so much from this camera.
These apps already draw the maximum output from the hardware and there can't be any more improvement.
These two apps I told are the best that I have found so far. So use these apps and search foor some better if you want.

even older and cheeper models can shot at macro mode
I managed to do this with my old Sony Ericsson K550 that was a cyber-shot model
and also with my 5 mp samsung galaxy core so yes I except a smarphone with 8mp camera promoted as a smartphone for photograph to have at least the same if not better results with macro mode (if there was that mode to start with)

Samsung phones have undoubtedly pretty good cameras. But the worst part of Xperia L is the camera. It can't even closer click proper photos so there's no chance of macro.
And you can get the macro mode in some custom camera apps but won't give you extraordinary results.

has anyone tried this for macro photos :

photo question

I
Want to purchase this device and i qould like to is the camera as bad as said in all the reviews your opinions are greatly appreciated
Main camera - Meh.. Great
Front camera - Epic... BAD
Main camera, good in daylight, not so good in low light conditions. Photos have a yellow-ish tint. Front camera is bad, but you should not expect much in the beginning.
thank u all very much

Can u please post a low light shot please I need a decent cam and I really want a Sony
If you want a decent cam get a more expensive Sony As I said, good enough in daylight, not decent enough in low light conditions. This means that if the photo quality is important to you, this cam will not provide it in low light (with ot without flash). I think the phone is great for the price, but I don't care much about the quality of the camera as I use it very rarely.
thank u

I think I made up my mind then
The camera got better with kitkat, but it's still nothing impressive. If you want a good camera, get a camera. Or pay way too much for minor upgrade in quality by buying a high-end phone.
Like a said in my review, Sony always made great cameras, remember very well of my X10 and Arc ,great cameras. Im very disappointed with M2, both cameras are terrible, dunno why they did that. I would never buy M2 if i were a photographer.
The camera itself (=sensor) is fine, what isn't are the post-processing settings. Just look at these photos:
Example 1: 4.3 stock app | non-stock app
Example 2: 4.3 stock app | non-stock app
All of them taken with an M2, but the non-stock app is clearly superior; not oversharpened and no weird noise (like ex2, upper left corner)
In my opinion, the camera has a problem, if there are light and dark olayes in the picture. An darker daylight room with an window. In this situation, the pictures are getting realy creapie.

@boro111: i'm using this one. I like the fact it offers saving to "raw" (.png) format, it's also the only one i saw so far that gives you control over the sharpness parameter, which i set to 0.

Z3 Camera Shooting Tips

Hello everyone, I must say this is one beautiful piece of hardware. I updated from an M7 which I was underwhelmed with the camera.
With this phone I am wondering what the optimal ways to shoot pictures is.
I.e. 20mp vs the auto 8mp? What is the difference? I know there is some algorithm re the 8mp auto setting but not the 20.
I also noticed that some of my pictures were quite soft on auto, has anyone else experienced this?
I have yet to find a guide online which truly discusses the best ways to take advantage of this camera so please feel free to chime in.
THank you!
Use 8MP the extra will compensate for zoom. 20MP pics are slightly darker. Use manual mode and specify ISO yourself for better pics. Auto on this phone can be horrible sometimes/many.

Yes I will use manual.
I am surprised at how soft the post processing is on full auto. I'm no fan of ios but I must admit that the iPhone camera is very nice.

20MP is a complete waste of time and storage space. You can take an 8MP and scale it up to 20MP and you wouldn't notice the difference from the true 20MP photo (I tried it).
The best Z3 camera shooting tip I can give you is - don't take photos of trees!
Duplicate.
Does anyone else notice, however, a softening of the pictures, particularly in full auto?
For example, look at this picture, of my daughter. Thanks.

Yes, its Sony's software processing, hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.
Is an update to fix the camera possible? It's been using the same sensor since the Z1 so how come Sony has fixed it?

It is possible, hopefully with RAW processing. This is proven that software can improve quality because I have tried using Sony camera vs. Google camera app at the same MP, and it shows. You might want to check through this thread for camera test photos and great discussions. Moderators would not want this to be another thread like that. :]

This Camera App is better than S9+ Stock

If you want very nice and sharp photos than you have to install "Bacon Camera" for your Samsung. We hope that someone can do a mod like Google Pixel Quality.
What does bacon camera do that is better than stock? Stock app is good all around but low lighting, it tends to tint red
The photos are sharper and have less noise. The tint problem will be fixed with an update I think
The only reason Gcam is better than Samsung's is because Google uses machine learning and it's massive database for that, I don't think this camera has these at its disposal.
Edit: This app doesn't support camera2 API, meaning you actually have very little control of what the hardware can do and all changes are software edited.
You can also try Footej Camera
Samsung pro mode is better than most of the copy cat apps in the play store. The only thing that works better is the gcam mod for front facing selfie portraits because of the machine learning blur.
The stock app, and the gcam, are the only camera apps you need.
But gcam is Not Working at this moment for s9+

I really want the Drama Photo effect from my Galaxy S4. Any idea where I can find this or an app that is like it. This effect will take 4 to 7 shots of a moving subject, and then stitch it together to show the movement of someone. thanks
I don't know any app that give you this. But for me personally I tried yesterday some versions of the gcam mod. Only one version is working a little bit. But picture quality is amazing. I hope someone do a full working mod for our dual camera than you have a Google Pixel camera with Samsung hardware.

It does, but most company besides Google have white balance issue.
Gcam doesnt do low light from what I see. Stock does very well in low light
Is really google camera that good compared to stock samsung camera?
Low-light photo quality sorta depends on the situation. If taking photos outside in low lighting, if you can keep your hands PERFECTLY still, the results can look better than the Pixel 2, but if we're talking consistency, I'd choose the Pixel 9 times out of 10. If taking photos inside in low lighting, especially when the subject is people or food, the quality comes out super soft. Some people like it, but it looks terrible to me. In these situations, I'd choose the Pixel 2 every single time, as it's consistent.
@jassu what app do you mean?
