1.) Once you have perm root and flash a custom rom you can use any SIM from any carrier correct?
I had a HTC Inspire from AT&T and running a custom rom put in a Tmobile SIM card and it worked but I had terrible reception.
2.) I also have a HTC Sensation from Tmobile that I just recently rooted and it wouldn't work with my At&t SIM. I understand this is due to the Tmobile rom on the phone and to have the at&t SIM work I'd need a custom rom or unlock the sim right?
I've read some about SuperCID but I understand that is only if you want to run another carriers rom (exp: run a european carriers standard sensation rom on a tmobile sensation) Is this correct?
3.) My main question is that since a phone's radio deals with how it interacts with wifi, gps and the carriers network wouldn't using a tmobile radio with a at&t SIM always give crappy performance and is there anything I can do about this? At&t doesn't have a radio for the sensation. Or am i looking at this all wrong?
Thank you for your help!
AT&T and T-mobile run off of different frequencies. The frequencies the phone uses does not change with the radio. When using a T-mobile phone with an AT&T SIM, you are only going to get edge (2G) speeds, and vice versa.
There is nothing to be done about this? Edge might as well be no data at all :/

Nope, nothing that can be done. There are some pentaband phones out that will get 3G/4G on both...galaxy nexus, and versions of the evo 3d and optimus 3d.

Hello to everybody.
I have opened this thread to untherstand if there is any chace to make work my Verizon M8 with the network band here in europe.
My M8 with the HD revolution 50 Rom work exelent expet for the network signal.
I saw that here in europe more or less the band used by the phone are the same of the ATT network in US.
If I put the ATT radio I can have more signal?
Thanks.
P.S.
Sorry for my english.

I do not believe it is as simple as just putting the ATT radio on the device, but honestly, I do not know.
Maybe you can SuperCID and flash the ATT radio (DON'T do this based on me..)
It may help to do some research on older HTC devices and getting Verizon variants to work on ATT and possibly edit that method for this device?
Can anyone tell me if the phones is region locked? Thanks
i am not sure what you are looking for but i do know that there is a thread on here where someone tried a Verizon SIM in a Tmob and ATT S6 and neither one worked on Verizon.
Generally Verizon phones are SIM unlocked so u can use them on Tom or att but don't expect to get lte coverage since the phones have different bands enabled.

That's because those don't have CDMA radios, and at least the AT&T one is locked. Verizon phones come SIM-unlocked and work with other carriers. If you use a T-Mobile SIM you'll see an "unknown SIM" message, but it will work assuming the bands match. You should be able to get LTE with T-Mobile as most of their network uses band 4.
He means region locked, like usa

Anyway to get rid of this message? My g2 I had to root it to get rid of it. I hope I don't have to root the s6 just for that because it gets really anoying just having the icon showing unknown sim the whole time.

I have a rooted S6 edge unlocked for US Cellular (G925R). I see a lot of ROMs here on XDA but moslty for other variants .
Is there a way to safely flash a ROM belonging to different version for the version that I have ? Is there a workaround that can accommodate this ?

I assume the G925R has an unlocked bootloader, which is how you got root.
You should be able to modify the updater-script in a ROM to allow it to flash properly on a G925R (zerolteusc), I guess a ROM for the T-Mobile S6 Edge could be edited to work on a US Cellular.
Don't try it without confirmation from a more experienced member though. I'm just saying, editing the build prop will work, but T-Mobile is a GSM based carrier whereas US Cellular is CDMA, so not sure if the ROMs for the G925T will work on your phone.

Thanks, I will look further. Pardon me if I am asking a silly question but I see an option to choose the preferred network mode as LTE/CDMA or LTE/GSM. Also my device has a SIM card slot so is this device capable of both CDMA and GSM ?Currently I am using a Tmobile SIM in it and I have also tried an AT&T SIM, both worked as I could make calls. I am asking this as I am planning to use this phone outside US and if the device is CDMA only it will not be able to work on the networks outside.

No problem.
Pop in a SIM Card of your choice and you can use the phone on most GSM based carriers even abroad.
You mentioned that AT&T and T-Mobile were working, so you're all set.
Verizon, US Cellular and Sprint devices are CDMA but they have a SIM slot. So they will work with GSM carriers provided they are unlocked.
Oh, and about the network mode, select the right one depending on your network. If you're on a CDMA network, choose LTE/CDMA or if you're on a GSM carrier, choose LTE/GSM.

Hi All,
The issue with my Verizon M8 [the rare LRA (LTE for Rural America) subvariant] is that no matter what firmware version/RUU I use, I only get GSM connectivity on it. No WCDMA or LTE. I have checked the WCDMA bands in my country and that is not an issue. When I select WCDMA only option, I cannot get any signal. I have flashed the all the LRA (*.**.512.*) RUUs as well as all the Verizon (*.**.605.*) RUUs but no luck at all. If this issue might be related to PRL settings then please let me know if any of you have any idea. I have also checked the relevant WCDMA/LTE bands via CDMA tool and they are also enabled.
My M8 is currently S-off and has Super CID. I am using it outside the US on GSM network.
This has got me very frustrating and I need to find out if this is a software issue or a hardware issue. One more thing is that another guy here has exactly the same variant as mine. He bricked his radio by flashing the GSM firmware. I provided him my phone's relevant partition dumps and after flashing those onto his phone, his phone's radio became operational but now he has the same issue as mine. So I think that this issue might not be hardware related.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!

do you know the actual bands/frequency the gsm network uses where you are? the prl is going to be pulled from your sim card. have you also tried a diff sim card?

Hello. Yes, I know the bands used by 2G, 3G and 4G in my country. And yes I have switched sim cards even from different networks. The PRL version shows as 00000 when i look at it from the settings. I have even tried to update the PRL from a prl file provided by a xda user in some other thread but still it shows as 00000. I have seen some threads and ppl had this problem with One S. Though some of them were able to correct it by flashing some stock and custom radios.

odd. i wonder if that lra model is sim locked like the sprint variant. is it also acknowledging you have a sim card inserted when you check in about phone? as in, does it display the sim #

Well, I thought too that it might be sim locked but then why it is working with 2G networks. There should be no signal at all then. Also these LRA variants are being sold by many online retailers including Amazon as sim unlocked phones. And yes it acknowledges when I insert or change a sim. Says "Preparing sim card" and then I get a signal (2G only). When I choose 3G only in network settings, the signal is gone immediately and I have to switch back to auto or 2G only to get the signal back.

So then list the specific band numbers for 2G, 3G, and LTE for your carrier. That is really what the previous response was asking.

This is strange, as the 3G band 2100 Mhz is really common (many countries use it for 3G, and most any recent US phone intended for foreign travel will support it), and should be supported by the device out-of-the-box. This tells me the problem is likely not RUU/firmware related.
You sure the APN is properly typed? And does your carrier use any different APN for 3G, LTE, etc.?

No it uses the same APN for all types and its configured correctly. I also thought the issue might rather be related to some NV values or PRL. If I set it to 3G only, it "Sees" the carrier as I can see a signal bar in network signal guru app, but the mobile is not able to connect to it.
so i am thinking that since this is a lra variant, a lot of bands may be disabled. have you seen anywhere else that someone got a lra variant to work outside the us? i know you said people were selling it as being unlocked, but maybe its not

Well the LRA variant is practically the Verizon one with everything same as the Verizon variant. There a lot of links on both Amazon and eBay in which its mentioned that its LRA variant and is factory unlocked and can be used anywhere in the world. And yes I came across various threads on XDA in which people had this same variant, working fine (3G atleast) but they wanted to upgrade to Android 6 MM as there is no official update available for this variant after Android 5 Lollipop. As for the relevant bands (2100MHz for 3G used in my country), they were already unlocked (checked via CDMA Tool and QXDM).

hmm this is quite the problem. if you can confirm you are using the same rom as the others, i would then think the issue is the radio being defective

I am using the stock LRA RUU (android 5.0.2). I have also tried the VZW RUUs from 4.4 to 6.0 but the same issue exists on them all. Even I have used GPE and Sense based custom roms but the same issue. I think that the issue might be related to some NV values or this phone might be network locked. Is there a way to check if the phone is network/sim locked? As I am getting the (2G) signals for all the networks in my country.

it being sim/network locked makes sense, because the phone was made for people who live in the middle of nowhere. there would also be a high probability that none of those people will ever travel outside the country. i do not know anything about the nv values and tweaking them, but i have looked at that thread a few times. lastly, if you have only picked up 2g regardless of sim or apn used, it could be defective radios
