update issues - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im on 25r trying to update to latest but i know i have to do 2 30O updates i have downloaded ota cm-bacon-d22b777afa-to-0428073396-signed 4 times and once of forums but everytime i try to update i get
skipping md5 check no md5 file found
assert failed: apply patch check error /system/priv-app/Mms.odex
executing updater binary in zip error flashing zip
my phone is rooted with twrp any ideas anyone i think problem is mms.odex

You applied a patch that modified the file causing the patch to fail. You need to download one with the modified script or replace Mms.odex with the stock one.

You should have modified a system file, have you applied any fix or tweak?

You need:
Framework-res
Twframework-res
SystemUI
Where have you found the file?
In the 2.3.6 thread? If yes thats the reason why it isn't working
This one is for 2.3.5

There is no "stock" CWM. Have you installed FeaMod Recovery?
If you have the stock recovery-mode, then its completely ordinary, that it wont work, because this is no CWM.
EDIT: You can find twframework-res.apk under /system/framework/.
ok..
and is it a lot work to install FeadMod??
I thougt it would work becouse i can root mu device with this..
EIT: just tried to flash the zip file, and it says completed.
rebooted my phone, but nothing changed
So... i need feadmod.
I saw a topic about this and it's a little much for me have blicked my phone one time so.... little scared.
i think i just wait for rom manager and that stuff.
Makes everything much easier

+1
you do need a custom CWM.
That's the reason why you get the error
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA App
did you use the in-build recovery or the CWM version? The zip file comes from the kitchen doesn't work in the in-build recovery. You have to update the updater-script file
If you go to the recovery and find it shows"Android system recovery <3e>", then it's the in-build recovery
WORKAROUND if flashing doesn't change anything:
1. Reboot into recovery (CWM Recovery!)
2. Manually mount /system and /data from recovery menu ("Mounts and Storages")
3. Flash the UOT file
Can you just flash feadmod with odin as a one package or is there more to do?
I saw somthing as you need to make a backup and stuff?
In the FeaMod thread every of your questions was asked before. Please read a bit in the threads and think about it.

I don't think that will help.
I flash the zip file from UOT on my GF's 9003 in CWM and also aborted.
The CWM is the one comes with CF-ROOT-DXKP9-Ext4-With-Extra-06-11-2011.
Later I update the updater-script and then it works.
Haha...finally i got it! Its way to simple!!!!

Current OTA Update for US tablets

I posted this in the "General" forum and didn't get any response, so I thought I would post it here. I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this.I figured may Moscow Desire, Vorbeth, or someone else may have a suggestion. Thanks in advance for your assistance!
"I have my tab rooted and bootloader unlocked. I used OTA Rootkeeper to temporarily unroot. The OTA update downloaded and attempted to install but failed. I downloaded the update again and saved it to my extra SD card. I then used CWM recovery to attempt installation again. Failed again. I am thinking that maybe the unlocked bootloader or CWM is causing the failure. Anybody have any ideas or input? Thanks!"
delete the first line in updater-script and it should work
if not than it´s possible that your not on the right version or you have to remove all check line´s and install then
please upload and post the update here for other users which are not able to download it. thx
How do you save the update to the external SD? I only get the option to download, and the file seems quite hidden from me.
Where is the OTA update stored at- read this to find out

You can save the download by choosing the "Later" option when prompted to install. Then you can go to the root directory of the device to the \cache\fota_dn directory and the update will be there. From there you can copy it and save it elsewhere on your eternal-SD card of wherever. if you choose to "Install now" option, and the update fails, the OTA update is not left in the \cache directory.
I always choose to "Install later" so I can keep a copy of the OTA update. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply, but I think this is a little beyond my skillset level and I don't want to mess something up! I'm not sure how I cna upload the OTA update to this forum, but if you tell me, I will be glad to do it!
http://www14.zippyshare.com/v/40506917/file.html
That's the original OTA file. I'm not comfortable editing anything.
Thanks, bidniss for letting me know how to catch those OTA files.
EDIT:
Okay, I edited my updater-script (not the file above) and tried to install from CWM. Failed at "apply_patch_check("/system/app/LinkToFacebook.odex".)" with a big string of numerals and letters. I assume mine failed because I have deleted the Facebook link. Will try to restore it on my system and attempt update again.
Recovered my app backups and tried to install update again. This time it failed at "apply_patch_check("/system/lib/modules/bcmdhd.ko" ...). No clue what that is, but after a quick search I found it has to do with wifi? and is in the kernel..Which I'm running the modified version of....So...Dang.
Screw it..Figured while I was already tinkering I might as well just install CM10. It's pretty sweet, by the way.
i will download it and remove all the checks, than you can try again, so i did it some time ago

edit: hier is the updater-script
change to the one in your zip an it should run through!!! but MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE.
if your on the wrong version it MAY be you screw up your sys because it looks like the file checks didn´t match.
did you do any patch before the OTA Update?

No patches. I am on the OTA JB version Acer_AV051_A700_RV09RC08_PA_CUS1 Build number: Acer_AV051_A700_1.034.00_PA_CUS1
My tablet has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. The update fails. I am turning off the root with OTA Rootkeeper. I get a message that says, "failed to verify whole-file signature"
"signature verification failed"
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.name")=="a700_pa_cus1"
"Error in /cache/acer_ug/update.zip"
I am using CWM v6.0.1.5 to install the update.
Does this shed any light that may help?- Thanks!
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.name")=="a700_pa_cus1"
this is first line in updater, if you remove, this error shoul not aplly again
if other check errors apear then you have to remove all of the checks, like i did in the updater-script, which i added in my post.
else try to disable verification check in CWM
and also look here and try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810687

Thanks for the info! My update.zip is on my Windows 8 PC and I may have to move it to my Win 7 PC because winzip is not allowing me to extract the files so I can "copy & paste" the updater-script file you posted. If there is a simpler way to do it, please let me know and thanks again!
use 7zip or winrar, open the zip und C&P the file into it
or long way, extract all , do modify and then repack all files an folders INSIDE the extractet/modified folder, NOT the folder AND it´s content
your also able the open inside the winrar window the script and change it with Notepad++
EDIT::
aaaaah wait:
if your not able to open it, you have to decrypt it with acer decrypter first, then it´s an "real" zip
search hier im Forum danach

I've moved this back to general, that's where it belongs. Development is strictly for ROM's, mods and kernels only.

system app

HI,
here's the problem...I tried to install snote3 app for the new 4.4.2 leaked rom but can't succeded because the file was corrupted.
Now if I try to delete the file with root browser (both manually or trying to overwrite it with a new snote3 file) the app says "succesfully done" but nothing really happen...the file is still there.
If I try with other apps rather than root browser the operation simply fails...so I'm in a situation where JUST THAT FILE can't be delete, renamed, overwritten, launched and so I'm obviously can't install the new application.
Any idea?
thank you

BTW, you said that you are using Root Browser, but did you enable the R/W on System files ?
If that's not working try another Root Browser (Root Explorer or ES File explorer are recommended)
...And I assume that you are rooted being installed with Leaked 4.4.2 ROM.
You can only delete, replace or modify system files IF you have enabled R/W on system files, which is most Root file manager set the default to disabled.
If you still can't remove it,I recommend you use AROMA File Manager.
AROMA File Manager can only be open in Recovery (CWM & Philz/Advanced CWM...never tried TWRP)
Solved! Thank you guys

Trying to sign a zip on a phone? Solved

So... let's see that zip.
It's ok. Just sorted it now, obviously waking up at 4:30am has defected my brain. I was zipping the folder as a whole rather than the meta and system folders. So within my zip was another folder of the same name before them. Lol. Doh... Fail to me

[q] push file to root/data/data folder without root

Hi! Someone know how to push a file in /data/data/ without root?
I want to copy my savegame from my old phone to my new phone. With ADB push can't make this, because ADB want privilege (grant root permission)
Thanks in advance! [emoji2]

Using a custom recovery can help. TWRP - file manager - copy file to data folders.. this is possible way, if you have a twrp recovery. Otherwise you must build one or ask somebody to make it. You also can try to use the helium app from clockworkmod, which is able to backup and rewrite apps and data to new phone.
