Hi,
I would like to turn my Transformer into a secure Wi-Fi hotspot to share the Internet with other mobile devices. I know that such a program exists for Windows 7, it is called connectify. The purpose is to use my Transformer for example in an hotel , so my mobile phone could connect via Wifi to the Internet via my Transformer and so avoiding to have to pay another fee for using Wifi for my phone.
Thanks for help.
Daniel
If you go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable Hotspot, > Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot you can enable this feature here, providing that you already have an existing internet connection. Then go to Configure Wi-Fi hotspot to configure the security settings. (Android Version 3.2)
"enable wifi hotspot" is grey out and can't be chosen.

No, it doesn't work. When I am enabling portable Wi-fi Hotspot, I don't have anymore an internet connection. You can't enable both: portable Wifi-hotspot and " simple" wifi. If you try to enable Wifi, you loose the portable Wifi-hotspot.

I'm not sure that the antenna can handle taking in wifi and dishing it out at the same time.
I just tried doing a backwards bluetooth tether, but with the built in tools I can't tell my phone to use my Transformer for internet, only the other way around. But, you could just do that, put your phone on the hotel wifi and tether from there.

Yes, I know you can share your 3G network from your phone to your Asus via WiFi but it is not what I am looking for.

I've been trying to use several apps to enable wifi hotspot including wifi tether, foxfi, barnacle, and many others. I it will activate but the hotspot name does not show up on other devices. However when I switched the device to 3G it will show up and connect. After messing with the settings in the app wifi hotspot I was able to get it show up on other device but not connect. Again I switched to 3G and it worked time, just not 4G speeds.
Any thoughts. I am on a rooted SIII and have the latest Verizon version.
foxfi rename network name

Here are some tips to help your usage:
1. On some models if you run into WiFi problem after using the Hotspot, simply reboot your phone and rename the hotspot before activating to clear the issue.
2. For some Samsung phones if your computer is not able to get an IP address, try to turn on WiFi on the phone first and make sure it does not connect to any WiFi network, then turn on FoxFi.
3. FoxFi is tested on non-rooted phones. If your phone has a rooted ROM it may or may not work.
4. When WiFi hotspot is activated you may also see a hotspot notification of the built-in WiFi hotspot feature. Please ignore it. As long as you do not sign up for a tether plan you won't be charged.
5. If you enter or change the hotspot password, make sure you rename the hotspot also before activating.
6. Sometimes Windows need a "repair" on the WiFi menu to get a correct IP address.

I am having the same issue with my iPad as well. I will try this and see what I can come up with.
I bought two Xperia C devices, with the original firmware there was no "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings" under "Tethering & Portable Hotspots" menu. I updated one of them to the last firmware 16.0.B.2.6 but still there's no "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings".
As you know if you dont access to the Wi-Fi hotsport setting you cannot change the define the Wi-Fi key and the wi-fi hotspot is totally unworkable.
Meanwhile the wi-fi hotspot is working well, when the data is on, you can turn it on and it's also been found by other devices like laptops or mobiles but as you dont have a wi-fi key you cannot use it.
I need to create a portable hotspot with my home wifi but when I turn portable hotspot on wifi turns off. Is there a way to do this?
It's so I can share my phone's VPN connection with PS4...
Kind of like Windows ICS...
