hey everyone,
i recently bought the oneplus one from a store. it is the chinese version, but came preinstalled with CM11. Probably the store owner did it because the back of the phone doesnt mention Cyanogenmod. How do i root this phone? when i go into recovery, i get ' Cyanogenmod Simple Recovery <3e> KVT49L
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
As yours already probably has the bootloader unlocked, skip to step 2.
Alternatively instead of installing the recovery, you can just boot to it - fastboot boot recovery.img and flash the root from recovery afterwards.

I get the below error when trying to flash recovery
Bootloader is not unlocked.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 and read/perform the section about unlocking the bootloader before trying to flash a recovery, etc.

You can't. The bootloader has to be unlocked to change recoveries.
This is why you don't use toolkits, you do things without thinking and then are unable to get yourself out of sticky situations.
NEVER relock bootloader without custom recovery installed AND rooted OS running!
if you do, you're unable to change tamper bit to unlock bootloader again.
that's why i never relock my bootloader! just to be safe.

Hi, I have a real problem with my one-week old oneplus one that I hope I can get some help with. I've spent two days trying to fix the problem with my phone and its totally baffling me.
I managed to unlock the bootloader and root the phone and install twrp and SuperSU using the Guide : https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...oader-install-custom-recovery-and-root.64487/
I experimented flashing roms. Then I tried Oxygen but hated it. So I wanted to revert back to the factory rom and then upgrade to 11S. Since then I haven't been able to unlock the bootloader. I am using fastboot because I am running a macbook pro with Bootcamp which has a small partition and limited filespace. In fastboot, when I try to boot from recovery, it returns with
FAILED (remote: Device not unlocked cannot boot)
Whenever I try to unlock the bootloader, the oneplus reboots back into twrp before I can 'fastboot reboot'.
I've found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-reset-unlock-tamper-bit-t2820912 this afternoon, downloaded the folder, but now have no idea how to use the script or where to put it?? I hope that this would unlock the bootloader?
Can anyone help me please??
Apologies in advance for being a NOOB. I'm upgrading from an iPhone 4S so please take pity on me !

All you need to do is download the OnePlusOne-BootUnlocker.zip file from the thread that you linked to, boot into TWRP and connect your phone to your PC, copy the zip to your phone, and flash it with TWRP, then your bootloader will be unlocked.

I’m currently using NRT 2.1.4 and i’ve tried rooting my device a few times now and it never installs SuperSU and I can’t boot into TWRP as it shows the android laying down w/ the red exclamation, which is odd since it does go into TWRP during the process of rooting...
But I do not have TWRP installed because of the NRT process
Steps I have taken:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash stock + Unroot (Latest version MMB29Q)
Root & Custom Recovery
When I do the root step, it boots into bootloader, goes in a temporary twrp, then launches normally and says to update SuperSU binaries and check busybox, but neither SuperSU or busybox get added into my app list
It also sometimes says ADB recovery device not found on some attempts..
Is there any way for me to root my Nexus 5?
I have repeatedly flashed the stock with the newest version and still haven’t been able to root.
I have tried relocking the bootloader and unlocking it, but upon unlocking it again, it says that it's already unlocked...?
(Bootloader shows LOCK STATE - unlocked when trying to relock bootloader)
I have been able to root my Nexus 7 2013, but can't seem to get my Nexus 5 to work..
How about flashing TWRP via fastboot, then use the volume/power button to immediately boot into TWRP, and then flash supersu?
The bootloader will not relock?

Yeah, I don't know why, when I try to OEM lock and unlock it says it's already unlocked, which is odd.
But I did the TWRP via fastboot and installed SuperSU that way, thanks.
Glad it worked for your phone.
Help me to unlock bootloader and root
Hello Guys, I want to unlock the bootloader on my N5. My phone is in Android Ver 6.0.2 with Feb patch(Build Number MMB29Q). Please help me in doing so. Also i would root my device, i would prefer TWRP. Please anybody...
Boot the phone into fastboot, connect the phone to your computer, and use fastboot commands to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, and flash supersu for root.
Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone.

I unlock the bootloader to install twrp and magisk, it's possible to lock the bootloader again without problems or the phone don't boot?

Locking you bootloader while TWRP and Magisk are installed will give you a guaranteed brick. Use a Fastboot Rom to return to stock, then you can lock it
If you want to keep TWRP and root, do not lock the bootloader. As the user mentioned above, you'll brick your device.
if i flash stock rom, than is that ok to lock the bootloader ? and how to lock it ?

If you flash a full stock rom then yes. All you do is use the fastboot rom we talked about earlier, let the phone boot up (don't bother completing the setup process, just let the phone boot up), restart to bootloader, and use the following command from the command prompt on your pc:
Fastboot oem lock
It will give you a menu on your pone asking if you want to lock the bootloader. Tell it yes. It will then lock the bootloader, factory reset the phone, and then boot up normally with the bootloader locked. It's that easy.
ok thanks.one question. is that important to flash the stock rom using fastboot only ? or can i flash it using twrp ?

I did it through twrp, worked just fine. Make sure to wipe beforehand though, don't want to risk bricking your phone

Doing it with a Fastboot Rom will guarantee that things needing wiped will get wiped. When returning to full stock I will always recommend the Fastboot Rom just because of how it completely handles everything it does flawlessly. I imagine flashing a full rom in TWRP will work but I have never tried to return to stock this way
i did try stock using twrp and it was perfect
I have unlocked bootloader but in the end NOT installed TWRP or root (just wanted to test if i can live without it and still be able to install without wiping everything)
Now I just want to lock bootloader again for selling device.
Can I do so with simple fastboot command "fastboot oem lock" without bricking phone?

Use msm download tool to be sure. It will however wipe all.

You can, but if you are selling the phone I would still use a fastboot rom just to be sure everything is wiped and no data sensitive to you is being sold along with the phone.
Thanks a lot for the shared info here. This is just what I need and had been asking myself for quite some time now.??
So never lock bootloader with twrp and magisk installed.
Recently rooted my new Zenfone 7. Is it possible to remove Bootloader unlocked Warning message at the start up of the system? Thanks for an answer.
re-lock the bootloader
Boot into fastboot, then send this command from your pc.
fastboot oem asus-lock
how did you get root to work? I followed the instructions listed and it would not work for me.
I followed the instructions there: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-official-twrp-for-asus-zenfone-7-series.4161719/ in fastboot mode you should update android drivers manually through device manager to get it work otherwise you'll get " waiting on device " error and it won't flash TWRP.
Is it possible to remove Bootloader unlocked warning without re-locking device though?

Getting TWRP on and working was fine. It was when I went and tried to flash Magisk that it kept causing a bootloop.

Why? Unless you plan on overwriting TWRP, there is no benefit to having it unlocked all the time. TWRP will still work after it is re-locked. and you can unlock it again via the app anytime you need to update.
