Ok, so off and on I have been doing some looking around on how to move things from teh internal storage to the external.
Then I had a question.
I know that these programs create an "image" i guess of the stuff that is supposed to be on the internal making the system think its still there. With the mount and this "image" taking up "space" - are you ever able to actually make the device think you have freed up space and install more things?? Does it really actually make any sense to do any of these things?
I played around with a few in directory bind, and while my external availability number changed, my internals didnt. i checked both with the binds active and disabled. the numbers were exactly the same.
At first i was thinking that maybe you would have to temporarily unbind one thing (to remove the image from the internal) and install the new thing, create a new bind for the new thing, and then renable both the old and new things.... but with the internal numbers not changing even with binds off (stuff only on external) this doesnt make sense either.
has anyone run into this and found a solution??

Howdy all!
I have a newby question. How can I change the default location to were the cameras save the pictures? I would like to have them save to a folder on micro sd card without have to manually move them from device storage to the removable storage. On my Evo 3d it defaulted to the removable storage but I guess I am a little dense, as I can not figure out how to do it on the transformer.
Thanks for looking!

You could probably just set up a symlink...

I do this a lot (symbolic links) on Linux but I could never get it working on Android. Does anybody know a way to create a symbolic link in Android? Specifically, it would be really helpful to create a symbolic link to my external SD card from the main directory (sorry, forgot what it was called dont have tablet with me)
Symlinks are essentially the same on Android as they are on Linux, however there are a lot of virtual folders (like your internal SD memory, which is really /data/media). The key is to find the true source (wow, I sound like some Point Break dude).
Anyway, you would need to be rooted, but this thread would help:

Good Evening Everyone !
You may have already seen this subject many times but I really need help as I can't find a way to fix my very particular situation.
Actually, HTC Chacha is a very particular smarthpone as it contains only 150 Mo Internal (/data).
I have also a 2gb sdcard which is composed of 1,3Gb truly external (for photos and my documents, this partition comes unavailable when I plug my smartphone to my computer for instance) and the other part is sdext2 which remains mounted inside the smartphone at any time.
Even though internal storage is reduced, I managed to set-up many application thanks to Linked2SD which helps me move apk and dex toward my 2nd partition (sdext2). However, as you must know, an app is composed of apk, dex and data. This last part is still stored in the internal memory (150 mo) (Link2SD does'nt link the data of the application but only the application itself).
How can I move those data to my external sdcard ?
Second question, is it possible to do this with data from the application contacts (in this particular case, data = my contacts database) which apk and dex haven't been linked by Link2SD. I would like to "get rid" of my contacts because 30 Mo of database makes my smartphone run out of internal storage (you can laugh, but the OS (Sense) doens't like this at all !!!).
I thought about FolderMount to move data stored in data/data to a folder on my sdcard but I don't how to do ?
Do I need first to move manually the data of the application (stored in /data/data) to my sdcard and then create a link ?
The source will be the folder in sdcard that I've just moved and the destination would be its former location ?
I hope I have been clear. Ask me if I haven't.
Thank you so much for you help !
Note: Feel free to move this thread to the relevant section, this site is a labyrinth and I couldn't find anything P990-related.
Right, basically my phone is rooted, but whenever I bind a directory in Directory Bind it forgets it as soon as I restart. I have checked the "bind on boot", I've selected each bind so that the save icon is green, it has SU permissions, Directory Bind has as much permission on my phone as I do, but every entry resets at boot.
Is it a conflict between Directory Bind and P990's, is it that DB doesn't work on P990's or is there an extra step that must be taken?
The P990 has 6Gb of memory, 1.5 for system and 4.5 for internal SD, it fills up pretty quick and I want to redirect some of my bigger apps and games at the 16Gb external SD.
The binds work because I've relocated about a gig and a half to the external using 3 binds and the apps work perfectly, but as I said rebooting wipes the binds and the apps no longer find their data.
I can also verify that the phone is rooted because I've used it to change system fonts, update BusyBox and in Terminal emulator I can use SU commands.
Sorry if this much info is overkill, but I reckon the more info the more likely someone can help.
Right now, it seems as though my main internal storage is full, whereas my 2nd partition ("SD Card") has free space. Every time I try to install an app, it tries to install it to my main internal storage, and thus it gives me an "insufficient storage" error. I used to be able to go into an app on the Apps area of Settings, and attempt to move the app to or from the "SD Card". IIRC, at some point Android decided to drop the idea of having two partitions for internal storage, and now doesn't allow for that type of movement between partitions. The problem is, now I can't seem to install any new apps unless I uninstall my old ones.
Is there any way I can selectively install apps to my "SD Card"? Also, is there any easy way to simply combine my storage? I don't see the point in having it separated out.
I'm running Paranoid Android 4.44. Thanks in advance.
Kitkat removed the ability to move apps to the SD card for whatever reason. There's a couple patches that allegedly fix this issue in the play store but I've tried most of them and haven't gotten it to work. I also can't find a way to merge the internal storage and SD card partitions. I would ask the developer of link2sd for more help on this.
Like @Cryptecks said there comes a point in time where the older devices start to show their limits and unfortunately this is one of them. Sorry...
Ugh. Well thanks at least for the response. It seems pretty silly that this is an issue. I guess i'll see what I can find patching wise, but man, this is gonna be annoying. My main partition is only 2 GB or so
same here, 2.34 GB on my main apps partition which also houses cached data. CM11 will allow me to move some data from certain apps to the virtual sdcard partition that is there with 10 GB and 8 GB FREE SPACE!
merging partitions in ms windows is so easy, why is android so lame with this? I might have to get a new phone
Never owned a phone that came with microsd and this new Sony phone intrigues me. Biggest bummer about this phone is that it only comes with 16 GB internal storage. I don't know how this work since the kit-kat upgrade came out but my question is that say I'm a heavy Whatsapp user and and have lots of photos and convos saved onto my phone so can that automatically transfer to my sdcard? With this little memory im scared I might run out of room with all my other apps as well. Btw i'm not a guy that roots my phone so that would be out of the question unless that was the only last option to make this work. Hope to get some detailed feedback from you guys. :fingers-crossed::laugh:
I don't think you would need to root the Z3 to do what you want. I haven't had an expandable memory slot since my old HD2. Nexus 4 for the last few years, working with limited memory is something I wish to finally again leave behind.
I don't know how it works on the Z3, but with KitKat this is the gist:
Apps can write to the sdcard, but only to their "approved" folders. E.g. After 4.3 or so we got an /Android/data/ folder inside the root of our sdcards. Inside that are app package names. So if a developer calls getExternalFilesDirs() it will list an array, one being the internal Android/data folder and the other being the SDcard Android/data folder. However, no change is needed on the app developer if they let you browse directories (you can just point the save location to the proper data folder package name). So, for example, I use FX File Explorer and move files to /extSdCard/Android/data/nextapp.fx/files from my internal memory on my S4.
Currently the only negative are games like Baldur's Gate. They only install to the internal memory and at 2.3GB can not be moved to the sdcard. If you root you might be able to swap the directories, but I haven't tried as I prefer to not root. But as it stands, that 2.3GB would go against the 16GB internal storage.

Yea Iike the what's app itself is only cpl MB and I don't mind that on my internal but within what's app I have 3GB worth of photos videos from my group chats that I like to keep so I need to know if that can automatically be saved to sdcard or I have to find a different phone.

Where is WhatsApp saving the pictures? To tell you the truth, no phone post 4.4.4 without rooting will do what you need. So you may need to look for something with larger internal storage.
