[Q] XDA app - unable to log in - General Questions and Answers

I installed the XDA Developers app from Google Play, registered on this website using the Google+ account, then went into the profile to set a password. However, I am unable to login through the app. Logging in on the website using the password I set works just fine.
Am I doing it wrong? There aren't any options in the login other than username and password, which as I said, does not work in the app. I get an error stating I have used X out of 5 login attempts, that is all.
P.S: I am a brand new Android user (as of last Friday) and your guide/video to root my Xperia Z2 is what prompted me to register here.

Bump, this is still not working

Hey @Zaitzev
Do you have tried to write your username "Zaitzev" with a capital letter like "Zaitzev" instead of "zaitzev" .

Yes I have, both lower- and uppercase, there is no possible way to login through the app as of now.

Actually, I had an idea and went for it: I had a 32 random character alphanumeric password, but decided to change it to a 8 character password. It worked. And that is a security concern imo.
Edit: I sent a message to Archer about this issue, we'll see what the outcome of that is. Meanwhile, I'll keep the password short and simple..

Glad you got it working. I've not seen any message yet though - oh no. I look up and I have a new message now
I shall read it and return.
Edit: I've read and replied, and hopefully that will be some help. I'll leave this thread open so if you do get any relevant info then you can post it here for future generations!

Tugs Uptime Project - uptimeprj.com

Hello,
do you know uptimeprj.com? They got a team for Android too.
You can download the app for the project for free in the market. Its called DroidUptime.
But first register on uptimeprj.com by clicking the "subscripe" button at the top or here.
Now login and open the app on your phone, press the menu button and insert your password and username, set the update interval to 2 hours, go back and press start. (if you want to give your phone a nickname just write something in the "hostname" field)
Now join the Android Team by clicking the button in the middle of the site.
Have fun!
App thread on their site
I joined it earlier today for giggles since my N1 is at 16+ days, but I have yet to see the data show up on the server.. Still shows 0 devices, etc.. The service is running and it's updated several times.
Any ideas?
what is your profile link? Mine is http://users.uptimeprj.com/xpatriick/en/
Edit // I think this is yours? http://users.uptimeprj.com/khaytsus/en/
You have to add your system. I can't remember how I did it.. if I even did something.
Your Name and password in the app is right?! check it again please

Yep, it's all correct, I'll check it again, maybe look in alogcat.. Nothing in logcat, I've changed the password in the client (just in case I typoed), and letting it run again.

Done. By the way, does this require root to operate? I'm stock, unrooted, etc.

No it doesn't
Odd, I just noticed my Nexus and my wifes Aria both are not updating uptime.. Anyone else seeing the same?
Aha, alogcat tells me why..
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService.getMACAddrMD5(DroidUptimeService.java:65)
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService.sendUptime(DroidUptimeService.java:133)
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService$1.run(DroidUptimeService.java:49)
Weird. I tried and tried to make it work, no go.. So I decided to put the phone on wifi and sniff the connection and see what's being sent up and received... and it's worked since.
Shame, I was trying to get the wifes Aria on the list.. it had nearly two months uptime, but locked up on her the other day.
Version 1.4 is on the Market. Hope it works better now.

I wrote an app to control my phone through google talk

Hey guys!
I developed TalkMyPhone, an open-source app that enables you to control your phone from google talk. It's like android-notifier on steroids, since it brings almost the same features and you don't need wifi/bluetooth enabled.
I can't post links since I'm new here. Google for talkmyphone or look for it on the market.
Developers: I'm open to contributions
Users: please use the issue tracker for suggesting features
I don't have many non-french users since the info did not spread very well outside of french blogs, so I'm posting it here. I hope someone will find it useful and write something about it.

Do you need multiple GTalk accounts in order to talk to it, or can you "talk to yourself" ?
Niice Idea
sweeeet thx
Doesn´t work on my SGS. After trying to to login the app closed. And now i can´t open it again. Even every other app wont start.
Only a restart helped. Uninstalled.
But the idea is interessting. maybe i´ll give a try again later.

The 2 solutions work. Talking to yourself is possible in gmail, but you cannot initiate the conversation, so in this case, best is to use a third party client like pidgin. Otherwise you can set up a second account. Any standard jabber account is possible.
Accounts delivered at jabber.org are *very* easy to get. You don't need to give your email address, you don't need to sign an agreement. You just have to fill a captcha to prove you're human.

Weird. Some unlucky people experiment bugs like this one. I don't know where this comes from, and I try to improve the code. It works 100% of the time for me, so all I can do is look at 'adb logcat' traces users leave on the bugtracker. If you wish to do so, it might improve your chances to see this fixed

you may try changing your preferences.xml to the attached (just because of english, just change .zip to .xml)
i have to find the other file, because i noticed some other grammatical things. no worries tho
and, 'additional settings', in the xml has too many 'n's, lol

Pretty Neat
I was able to go on Google Talk on my PC and send messages to my phone. The copy:text feature I can definitely see myself using so that I don't have to type long URLs in the browser. The other functions seem like they would be nice if you lost your phone or if it was stolen. Overall a pretty neat app! Thanks!

HTC Incredible
Virtuous Rom 2.7
So I have the app running and logged in. (Phone is logged into [email protected])
On my PC I have [email protected]. I message from PC to phone (John to Paul) and nothing happens.
I tried "where" "ring" etc, but the app doesn't respond. What am I doing wrong?
What next...
When you start the app on the phone, make sure you input your google information and then start the app. If you have Google Talk up on your PC, it should pop up a window for you to type commands into (talk to/control your phone). It did for me anyway. Type a "?" to get a list of the commands...

Hmm, I did all this. Let me see where the issue is:
My phone's Google account is set to [email protected].
I put in [email protected] and my password into TalkMyPhone.
I start up TalkMyPhone and it logs in -- successfully.
I go to my PC and log into gmail on [email protected].
I message from my PC ([email protected]) to my phone ([email protected]).
I get the message but nothing happens with TalkMyPhone.
Can you tell me where the issue is?
i entered in all of my information too and nothing seems to work, the app says loging in .. then that its successful. but then nothing can be done from there.
i cant even log in
i always get the message: "login failed" and then "stopping service"
i tried setting it on "use the phones account settings"
then i turned that off, and manually put in my gmail-settings - still didnt work
Same issues over here... Got it all connected, reciving messages from the phone works fine, too (welcome, battery, incomming callings) but sending commands doesn't work for me.
Got a HTC Magic/Sapphire with CM6 (2.2) running on it.
I had the same problem. I changed the GTalk Port to 5222 and entered my ****@googlemail.com instead of ****@gmail.com
Works perfect on my HD2 (Android ) Thank you!
When I log in on phone i get this gTalk message on my pc from my own account:
Welcome to TalkMyPhone. Send "?" for getting help
Battery level 78%
Works just perfect...

do i need to have the real gtalk installed on my computer?
doesnt applications like trillian for windows work?
I tried Pidgin and it works but I use the GMail-Chat because it's my info hub
Anyways, great work chm.duquesne, this is a really great application.
Now there just needs to be a way in GTalk to turn off the chat notification in Android for a single contact
// Edit
The "where" feature is really awesome, mate.
Nothing serious but the reply feature does not work for me. When I received a SMS and I type "reply:This is my reply" it answers "No match for "+491234567890" (the number being the correct number, of course).

I use gTalk and it works.
Is it possible to get some kind of ping button on the phone, that opens the conversation window on the pc? I cannot figure out how to open a conversation with myself in gTalk.

[Q] Seriously...I can't log in with 2-step auth?

So I just got my Transformer 32GB...yay..*noise* *noise*
So I go to log in with my Google account...about TWELVE times.
I figure, you know what, you've had a few, pick it up tomorrow.
But it's so shiny.
So I log in with an alt Google account...same exact password (yes, security geeks...I'm that guy)...log right in.
Sooo...no 2 step out of the box?
Anyone else with this issue?
Android needs you to create an application specific password on a desktop to hookup your device to your Google account with two step authentication.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Go here:
https://www.google.com/accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens

Thanks team!!

Whatever you want. It doesn't matter and is just so you can keep them straight later on.
You'll get pretty good at doing this too if you have a tendency like I do to put a new rom on your phone like every 1.532 days!

I have about 18 now for various programs and sites that login to my account. But yeah I had to name phones with the CM version number or date I did the rom to keep them straight.

Every time I install a new rom or do a factory reset it looks like I've been hacked

As the title say time I install a new rom or do a factory reset it looks like I've been hacked. As soon as I register and connect my phone to the internet google security activity shows that my phone has been connected from Irland or Germany although I'm connecting from Sweden. How can this be explained if I'm not being hacked? I take all the security measures, changing password etc... But yet this problem doesn't go away. Does this happen to anyone else?
give us more detail
did happen only with one device or more? what do u use for root, wich rom, custom recovery do u install? wich kind of gapps do u use? it happen just when u install the rom/recovery, or when u set up the gapps?
the foreign connection message is inside the gmail account? do u see foreign ip address logged when u are not logged or just foreign ip when u are logged? (this question is because maybe something use a vpn)
I use Viperone rom, but it does't matter what rom I use. As soon as i logg in to my google account it happens, on the google security activity where I can see my devices, it shows that I logged in from Irland or Germany, and after that it goes back to show that I logged in from Sweden. So far I noticed that it only happens on my phone, but in the past it use to happen on my PC too, and it does not show the ip address, it only shows the name of the country. This is how it looks like: http://imgur.com/2A9ZBJy Tyskland is Germany in Swedish and it's not supposed to be there with Irland.

when u install rom and configure gapps r u using your wifi? because is strange it happens also with your pc, maybe the problem is in your LAN, it happens just after the gapps setup after a fresh install or also later?
do u ose official gapps (and where is the source) or do u use other kind of gapps?
The roms that I use has allready Google apps installed. This time it happened right after I logged in to my phone. In the past it happened a day later.
It's possible that the new rom had it's location history set to those locations.. And Google apps like a good little app is telling where your are...
But it's wrong until it gets a proper location update.

Nope. I'm definitely being hacked. Everything points towards it. I change my password I format my PC I install the original android to my phone, same **** happens. It was not like this before.
There is a trojan that can not be found by virus, malware and trojan software. This bastard got me. I think it could be the government.
Now it looks like this,I got USA instead of Germay http://imgur.com/uYDxZ1j Am i being hacked or not? 6th februari is the day i changed my password, compare it with the first picture i posted.
make 2 new google account with your pc
wipe your phone and install a rom, than configure it with one new account
use it for a day
than with your pc go in both account and see if are both comprimised or not
Let's assume the worst thing, that I am being hacked. How can I stop this from happening? I already changed password (I'm doing that from time to time), I use 2 step verification and sms verification when I login to my Gmail and I got virus, malware and firewall softwares, what else can I do? How am I being hacked?

Maybe not on this forum, but there are other forums.
What rom are you using? Where did you get it?
What email app are you using?
Who is your internet provider for your device?
All of these can be factors in you being hacked...
Your rom could have a Trojan on it.
Your email could be not properly storing your password.
(Your not using the factory email app that uses the account your signed info your phone with are you? Please say no)
Is your internet provider known for making a federal case out of every request for information or do they give it out to anyone with a badge?
More information is needed before you can be helped.
First off change roms...
If you are using a oem rom get a custom rom from a popular developer.
Then change email providers
(Unless you are taking Google)
Then dump the two factor crap
Get a third party open source email app or use tor to sign in by web mail.
Change and set your password from a cafe or hotel Wi-Fi that is nowhere where you usually go.
Then see if you think you are being hacked..
If so trash the phone
Get a new one with cash..
Root it secure it
Try again
And if that still looks bad..
User paper and one time pads for encryption and safe drop points.
